Has anyone been able to return successfully to Nigerian recently with an expired Nigerian Passport?

I'm going back in December through Virgin. I was there last December too and could see the banners at the arrival section stating that Nigerians with expired passports are allowed to return to the country.

Mine expired last month and i've tried to apply for a replacement but don't yet have the NIN number. I registered for it in Nigeria last year and i collected the slip. Truth be told, i'm sincerely not looking forward to that dreadful journey to the High Commission in London. The thought of that place alone sends shivers down my spine but you've gotta what you gotta do.

I've got a British Passport so the return trip shouldn't be an issue.

Your NIN should be on the slip that you collected after registration. That’s all you need.

Can people who have applied and received their passport within 2months comment on the Number of Pages and duration they applied for?

I applied for 64pages, 10years and got my passport in about 5weeks (Bio on 17th July, passport delivered on 23rd August).

I wanted to confirm if the no of pages and duration affects the processing speed. Also If you applied for the same 10years, 64 pages and yet to receive your passport after 2months also comment.

I applied for 10 years/64 pages.

As mentioned before - I did biometrics in May and got my passport in September.

Hi guys, please i need your input in this. First of all, i apologize for my lengthy post. I moved into the uk last year april as a student dependent, i started working in may and have been earning a minimum a minimum wage with over time and the littlest i earned is 1900 including over time which enabled me clear my wife's fees and pay some bills added with the little she earned working 20hrs. In the long run she got pregnant and went on maternity leave a month before we welcome our baby in December.

She was on maternity leave, earning maternity pay which supports me while i go full blast working overtime with same earnings not more than 1900. She went back to work in August and now on 37.5hrs full time as she has finished doing her masters.

Now with the responsibility of catering for our child who is now 10months, we had to adjust with our work patterns (Thank God for giving me an understanding manager and hers too) by picking shifts when we like to help us on who stays home with the baby while the other go to work. I had to let go working overtime as i work on days when she's not working and she works on days when I'm not working.

This has really impacted on my earnings and pay as i now earn the basic pay of 1800, and with tax, ni and pension deducted i am left with about 1600 sometimes lower if i don't work night shifts as we earn enhancement working night shifts. My wife is very supportive as we split montly bills, spendings and all ( I know that this should even make it easier as she earns more now) , but the issue is lately the cost of living has gone up, our rent was increased, energy bill has gone up as we had to sometime put on the heater cos of the baby, his feeding, clothing and all his needs.

The bills are choking and i can even hardly save. My wife on the other hand contributes her quota on a 60/40 basis as i contribte the most as the olori ebi even though we earn same salary monthly. I have racked in credit card debts and all. I have had to cut down alot of spendings to adjust ( and that includes me not buying orijin bitters or going out with friends, going to the barber, i cut my hair anyhow i sabi, and some needs....lol). What can i do in this context as i am considering getting a new job that can pay more on same hours, but I don't know if the manager will be as understanding as the current manager i work with.

[…]

In addition to the various advice that has been offered on earning more, I think you should also look into PROPER tracking of your monthly expenses so you can correctly identify what are the biggest/unreasonable drains on your finances at the moment and tackle those pieces.

A couple with one child earning a combined net income of at least £3,200 shouldn’t be struggling by any standards. You should definitely look to earn more, but the reasoning for this should be to have bigger disposable income, increase savings/investments or enjoy some luxury, etc. It shouldn’t be because you’re currently struggling.

During the time you were earning way more, did you manage to hugely save after you finished up paying school fees? Where did you redirect all that extra cash to afterwards? Any black tax burdens? I obviously don’t know much about your situation, but I sense that there maybe the need to look into cultivating better financial habits overall.

Please also clear up your credit card debts ASAP and run out of that hole like you’re being chased. Wishing you the very best and hope you figure things out in due time.

My question is, will I buy postal stamp for the delivery or I will just cut it and put in an envelope to drop off in a postal box near me ?

Thank you

Cut the BRP into pieces, put in an envelope, address to the location indicated in the instructions, buy a postal stamp and post like you post anything else.

Hi everyone, please who has applied for Nigerian passport recentlyin UK? please how long did it take and can someone fast track it? Thank you. And please does Nigeria have a Nin registration centre here in UK? Thank you

Applied around March and got biometric appointment for early May. I did biometrics early May. Got my passport back early September.

There’s no fast track anymore. The people that I know that pulled the “long leg payment” ended up wasting money, cos they still waited like everyone else cheesy. Maybe fast track can help with biometrics date sha.

Your best bet is to start your passport processing as soon as your passport clocks 6 months to expiry, so you don’t run out of validity.

Is that what you falsely claimed here that we had an argument and I deleted your post because you presented a stronger point?

Did we exchange words? You asked only one question AFTER people complained that the argument has gone on for days and should be ended. So I made a post asking people to move on as we have all had our say.

So I deleted posts made after that and one of your post was deleted.

What is the point of lying?

If this is the closest we’ll get to you admitting that your claim was wrong, I’ll take it. smiley

When you have some time though, please help us understand:
1 - why didn’t you answer that “simple” question from me and several others? Why was it that the instant go-to action was to hide posts, without even addressing the questions put to you first?
2 - haven’t people complained about the religious argument going on for too long as well? What has been your response to their complaint so far? How does it compare to the “post hiding” response to the employer argument that you were losing badly?

Hope above questions give you some clarity. That’s if you don’t decide to start hiding posts again, because [insert a Justwise excuse when losing ground].

PS: in case it is not obvious already, I don’t do nairaland arguments. There was a reason I qualified the argument word with “Y’ALL” - it wasn’t for decoration, it literally meant that I wasn’t part of the argument. So ofcourse, I didn’t argue with you. I’d be very surprised if I did lol.

I have gone through all your posts (441) to see a single post where we argued about anything. Rather what i saw was in 2020 where i was helping you with admission questions you asked.

So point out when we argued and i deleted your posts, which yr and on what topic. Tell me i will pull it out here.

The latest one I remember was that argument y’all had about people exposing their employer details. You were pro-“name your employer”. I asked you who your employer was. Not only did you not respond, you hid the post.

So there you go cheesy. There are a couple of other ones, but I obviously didn’t commit them to memory.

To be fair, in the process, you pointed out something important. One spouse could continue saving with LISA and be getting the bonuses for the couple's second home while the other spouse buys the first home alone. I wonder if this would work?
Yep, that’s why I left the shalaye there, as it’s a helpful info regardless.

And yes to your point, I initially thought you wanted to use your madam’s LISA to get a first house in her name, and then buy a second home in your own name using your own LISA. So claiming LISA first time buyer twice.

That would work and it’s in-fact what I’ll do as well (the other way round). But I no get wife yet cheesy

To prove this concept, can you please come back and report on how this works out for you (or people you know who have gone down this route) in like 3 years? HMRC routinely carries out compliance checks on SDLT returns post completion, and has about 2/3 years I think after the house purchase to open up an investigation, so would be interesting to hear what happens smiley

Government’s own website on LISA clearly says that you can use your own bonus towards a home even if your spouse already owns a home:

https://lifetimeisa.campaign.gov.uk/

So again, what Solumtoya is trying to do is not mortgage fraud. It is perfectly allowed. The proof that you need is on government’s own website.

This is not allowed. It is mortgage fraud and you can very easily be found out. 100%

I'm not going to share how very easily either the broker or solicitor or both can find out.

Once either party buys a home, the other party does not qualify as a "first time buyer"

A married couple where the MRS was still using her maiden name on all official documentation was found out. Doing a simple name search on land registry is easy peasy.

This is simply not true. As long as the property deed is not in both their names and the mortgage was taken individually, couples can individually be first-time buyers at different points. And no, it is not mortgage fraud.

I no get strength to argue sha. So if you disagree, no wahala. smiley

My deposit is 10%, and I sourced for my lenders using the two mortgage brokers provided by my company for free. They heavily cut short the time of doing the search myself. The best options for me currently is Barclays, TSB and Halifax. I’ll probably ring them up myself to negotiate the rate a bit further and then choose.

As matter of urgency, I want to confirm if this action can fly . I want to switch from tier 4 Visa to tier 2 skilled worker visa. Is it necessary or is part of requirements to show proof of English for the tier 2 visa application. I have done with my Msc program, however I can't get my certificate because of outstanding school fees. I owed school 2k, this will be paid as soon as possible but not in plan for now. I want to submit the tier 2 application form now and the company is expecting me to resume 1st of July. Please foks I need your advice.

Your main priority should be paying off the school ASAP and getting your certificate. Don’t you even need the certificate for the job you’re switching to? You also need the school for references and background checks, so you need to be in good standing for when it’s time to tick all those boxes.

Not sure what the relevance of the second paragraph analysis about rich or poor countries is but WRT to the bolded, yes it's a very small sample but so far it's 100% of apparent full payers, which is a significant deviation.

Where you learned your own statistics, if such deviations occur would it not warrant a closer look to determine why?

Exactly. That is why I said it was suspicious, and never actually accused anyone of lying, nor outrightly said it was impossible, because it is possible even though it is highly improbable. Plus, for the umpteenth time, it was just a joke and not an accusation against anyone. I'm honestly perplexed as to how so many people have bees in their bonnets over this.

I genuinely hope you understand now because ọmọ mi ò le ṣàlàyé jù báyìí lọ mọ́.
Because today is Sunday and I have time this afternoon, I will breakdown the analogy in simple terms:
1. Nigeria is statistically a poor country. - But if you go to Banana Island, you can pick 5 people and they will all be earning above $200K per annum. I won't call them a liar, because "national statistics".
2. US is statistically a rich and prosperous country. - But if you go to Chaldean Town, pick 5 people and they are earning around $100 per month, I wouldn't be too surprised.

Now apply that analogy to you coming to Nairaland and expecting the people here to align to UK's national statistics - just because undecided. The simple fact is... the distribution of people here are just very skewed at so many levels and I wouldn't expect them to be representative of many national statistics in the UK. Furthermore, the claims that we have seen so far are from an extremely tiny sample size and wouldn't be taken as anything significant from any credible statistician.

The baseline is - ya'll need to calm down with always questioning people's claims. I've seen claims from you about you that I don't believe (even today) and I just looked left because na you sabi. It's really not in your or anyone's place to question adults about their lives in a public anonymous forum. No one owes you anything. If you have an argument to make, do that separately with reasonable facts and logic, and not on the back of casting doubts at someone else's claims.

Obviously, no one has done it to me so far, but I still find it annoying and distracting whenever I see people do it to others. I decided to use this weekend to talk, but I'm over it now sha. grin grin grin Goodbye for now cheesy cheesy cheesy

Subsets generally reflect the characteristics of the greater set.
That's the very essence of statistical analysis. If there are huge deviations between a set and subset it means there's an error in the data somewhere or a unique characteristic. It's not an emotional thing. It doesn't matter how angry anyone gets.
You make a very valid point about the difference in behaviour of this sub-group. I disagree that such characteristics are enough to warrant such a huge deviation, but I acknowledge your point.
I don’t understand… Dem no teach you the importance of distributions and sample sizes for where you learn your own statistics?

And yes. A subset can deviate very hugely from overall statistics. Even more so, when your subset is 5 people from Nairaland for a UK national statistics. It’s for similar reasons that poverty exists in any statistically “rich country” and wealth exists in even the poorest countries. These are basics of statistics.

Statistics.

Q1 this year household credit card debt burden in the UK soared to the highest level in 2 decades - https://amp.theguardian.com/business/2023/jan/04/uk-credit-card-borrowing-soars-to-highest-monthly-level-since-2004

There was a recent BoE report as well for anyone who’s interested.

This is exactly why people said you’re overgeneralising. You’re looking at a stats for the entirety of the UK, but you’re on a forum consisting of a niche demography whose behaviour can (and most definitely is) vastly different from the larger majority. What’s more, you’re using the unrepresentative stats to judge the honesty of the claims of maybe 5 people… on a thread that has thousands of followers. You’re not adapting your statistics effectively.

The point the person was making isn’t that it’s an issue to pay your balance in full - obviously that’s best practice and what everyone should be doing.

The point was that everyone claims they do that, which is sus, to say the least, because it’s statistically improbable. Especially because it usually comes up when some people are encouraging ’newbies’ to apply for cards (without mention of whether they need it and can handle the responsibility).

It’s not rocket science to pay off credit cards in full every month. If you are living within your means, it’s the easiest habit to have. It actually won’t be surprising for me if most Nigerians abroad pay off their credit cards monthly - we grew up in a society that holds a mindset of “saving to spend” and avoiding debt.

NB: I also pay off my personal credit card every month. See the summary of my last statement below. So you can add me to the list you’re curating cheesy cheesy
