I vote yes but the map op had up there is nothing but a joke, having the old eastern region and the old mid western region is nothi g but a joke,it will never happen,to be on a safe side I think division along North and South will be more peaceful and stronger than all this ethnic lines you guys are coming up with.
The kind of war that will be fought among communities in the Niger Delta region over control of oil fields both onshore and offshore cannot be imagine.

Acidosis: Have you ever been to Kano?

Are you aware Kano is the second largest state in terms of commercial activity within Nigeria and the second most populous state in the country ? (check wiki)

Do you know Kano & Lagos are competing in terms of population?

Are you aware people troop in to that city like pure water for trade, business and investment?

Are you aware we have a standard football pitch in Kano state where footballers all over the world troop in until recently (crisis and all) ?

Are you aware Kano state governor is sending his people in hundreds on a daily basis for scholarships right from that Kano airport to any country you can think of in the world?

Do you know foreign investments and investors are all over the city?

Hope you know people who troop in to Kano just to order cars are more than those going to Lagos and Cotonou put together? Everything in Kano is relatively cheap!

Hope you know Kano state is the "Centre of Commerce"

Are you aware there are over 70 Hotels in the city- Kano? (not state).

I don tire for my west, south people o...

My dear, don't limit yourself to nairaland cos if you do, you'll not know anything aside Fashola, and maybe Amaechi and ACN..

Even if you can't travel to places, spread your horizon!!
why can't you find out if the person you are quoting is a Lagosian or better still a Southwestern?please we are not haters,

Ladipo Market ex-President accused of embezzling N46m, other funds
on July 03, 2013 at 2:00 am in News
By ABDULWAHAB ABDULAH
LAGOS — Justice Olabisi Akinlade, of an Ikeja High court, was, yesterday,  told how the embattled former president of Aguiyi Ironsi International Market, known as Ladipo Market, Jonathan Okoli, allegedly failed to remit the sum of N46million trade permit to Lagos State Motor Vehicle Association Agency, MVAA.

This was exclusive of other funds he allegedly collected on behalf of the market’s association, but allegedly converted to his personal use.
A prosecution witness, Anthony Mark, led in evidence by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, counsel, Anselem Ozioko,  said the defendant only remitted fund he allegedly collected from 430 shops instead of about 1,500 to government’s coffers.
According to the witness,  “In 2007 the Agency confirmed through the letter written to the association that he (defendant) only paid N700,000 out of the N8.7 million made that year.”

He said the letter indicated that state government should only collect N5,000 instead of the excess of N5,500 being paid by the traders.
Mark said apart from N5,500 being paid to MVAA, the traders at each shop in the market also paid N12,000 to Mushin local government annually.
The witness claimed the money allegedly paid between 2008 and 2009, amounting to N18.7million was diverted to the defendant’s personal account.

He alleged that the defendant failed to remit the sum of N8.5million collected from the traders in 2011 and 2012 to the state government instead, he allegedly paid same  to his personal account number 126101014690.
Okolie was arraigned on April 22, this year by the anti graft agency on a three-count charge of obtaining money by false pretences and stealing.

why on earth should they pay money to lagos state motor vehicle administration agency?if that's the body the report is talking about,If there is any agency in lagos state government that is called Lagos state motor vehicle association agency,I would like to know why people who are selling vehicle spare part should pay levies to them,I would also love to know if they are government agency and if they remits the funds into the government coffers.
As for the lagos state motor vehicle administration agency, they have their sister agency LIRS to collect their funds for them not the babaloja or iyaloja pf which am not aware they are suppose to levy the market men and women after collecting money for drvers licence and other permits.

Only contention there is this, what Real impact do these Traditional agents have on the local economy of the State. Is there no legally constituted authority (LAWMA, MOE) dealing with this?
what has boko haram got to do with this brazen daylight robbery?if its an association are they not at liberty to join or not?there is nothing traditional in iyaloja and babaloja collecting fees from market woman,at best they act as liaison officers to the court of the King where they reports to the Iyalode, not even to the King directly.

omar22: Its a criminal offence world wide to refuse to pay market rate or shop levy or corporate tax
nobody is disputing payment of tax and other levies to the statutory organs in authority, but the appointment of iyaloja and babaloja to collect this funds is nothing but fraud.we have lirs staffs/agents whose job it is to collect tax and levies on behalf of the government, there are people working at the local government level who also collect tax on their behalf.
Btw who monitors/audit the funds collected by the iyalojas and babalojas.
Of what use is the money being collected at motor parks and every bus stop, than the money going into the pockets of the excos, only for them to marry more wives and throw owambe parties.this practice should stop, its of no value to the economy of the state.

Its sicking and disgusting that my people have turned themselves into this,of what benefit is babaloja and iyaloja to the economy of the society?just like Nurtw excos they are bunch of parasites doing nothing productive than to collect money from the real practitioners thereby causing inflation in the price of Goods in the market, same way Nurtw is a menace to the society, they are the main cause of transport fares always going up defying law of gravity.I am also aware that this same practices cut across some other artisans association.the truth is that it must stop,it negate the principle of fair competitions among traders artisans and their likes.

Traders of the popular Ladipo Market, Mushin, Lagos State, have been warned against tolls evasion.

Chairman, Mushin Local Government, Mr. Olatunde Adepitan, gave the warning during the formal presentation and installation of Alhaji Adedotun Oki as the Babaloja General of the market (traditional leader).

Before the appointment by the government, the market, particularly the spare parts section, had been enmeshed in crises, leading to emergence of factions.

Adepitan, who urged the traders to cooperate with the new leadership and government, warned that those who failed to pay their rates would be treated as criminals,

He said, "In Yoruba land, where Ladipo Market, within Mushin, in Lagos, is situated, every market must have a traditional leader. Ladipo Auto Spare parts market cannot be an exception.

"The responsibilities of the Babaloja will not erode the functions of the President of Ladipo Auto Spare parts market. I urge you all to collaborate, especially in the area of environmental sanitation, discipline and security.

"We want the Babaloja to use his wealth of experience to promote peace and harmony so that government can make the required internally-generated revenue from the market.

"Whoever fails to pay market tolls and other revenues at the market has committed a crime against the government."

He urged Oki to leverage on his ascension to encourage regular and prompt payment of the council's revenue.

"We do a lot to cater for the welfare of our people in terms of road construction, infrastructural development, schools, poverty alleviation, market development, clearing of drainage channels and security. All these require money," he said.

In his remarks, Oki said he would ensure the promotion of peace and harmony in the market.

Pukkah: The woman in question is an adult and there's no doubt about that.

However, in as much as I don't hate Tinubu (given our political circumstances), this one leaves a bitter taste in the mouth.

We know the way things work in Nigeria. The more you look, the less you see but we know ourselves.

I don't have a solid proof that Tinubu imposed his daughter or forced/cajoled the Oba to install his daughter as the Iyaloja. I don't even have any proof that she's not the most qualified.

But you see, we know the ways things work in our country.

You think Tinubu's wife simply got elected as a Senator without Tinubu's influence? You think Obasanjo's daughter became a Commissioner in Ogun State without his consultation? Bukola became a Governor without his father's input? Patience became a Perm Sec in Bayelsa without Jonathan's input? Haba!

You say that Jonathan is supporting Jang in the NGF but do we have any solid evidence? But, yeah, we know that Jonathan is behind Jang.

Let's not hairsplit issues. This decision is not good for Tinubu. It could even sway hitherto moderates to the other side.
it has already,am pissed off

PoliticsRe: Nigeria Snubs US, Looks On To Build Economic Relations With China And Russia by Samxiulee: 8:30pm On Jun 26, 2013
akpomeme: Cost of doing business in Nigeria has always been high. DSTV in SA does not deal with power failure or generator to power up its bases in SA but in Nigeria they do. Our laws governing international businesses in Nigeria can add up to many overhead cost. It makes more sense for a company like dstv to go on monthly plan package for its subscribers in Nigeria in order to manage risk and be assured of its receivables.

Now coming back to countries exploiting us, yes people in power and positions of authority may have foolishly sold this country in the past for kobo, I can tell you most of that has changed. New laws and policies are shaping Nigerian business environment like the local content act which requires up to 60% of contracts given out in the Petroleum Industry to be awarded to local companies by IOCs and other major players. This way, proceeds and knowledge remain within our shores. So things can change and all these things began in less than two years
.
Dstv does not operate in Nigeria, its operates from South Africa,it does not need phcn to broadcast, multichoice is just a marketing firm,so why can't we also av a pay as you go option?

zetdee: comment from the news24 article.

Hi Christian - I'm not going to
defend SA in any way, but just want
to point out that unfortunately your
grasp of macro-economics is
functionally non-existent.
Furthermore, having extensive
experience with operations across a
number of sectors in Nigeria, I can
tell you that there are a number of
additional costs associated with
doing business in Nigeria: these
include lack of infrastructure, lack of
power, 'sharp' business practises of
local business people, VERY high
corruption, lack of professional skills,
immature stock and capital markets
(costly to raise funds and/or credit
facilities), non-payment culture, high
stock shrinkage in retail
operations...etc. All these costs,
together with the country risk
premium (14% for Nigeria vs 6.5%
for SA) means SA firms have to
charge significantly more to get the
same ROE from the Nigerian market
as they would in the SA market.
this was the same factors MTN and econet claimed when they were billing us per minutes instead of per seconds until globalcom proved them wrong,am not against the SA businesses in Nigeria, but their level of extortion is killing,
BTW am not a fan of foreign investment either, government should just give us power, security, and a good transport system, and see what the magic Nigerians can do,the developed economies of today did not develop with FDIs,USA,china,Japan,Korea western European nations where all developed through a healthy competition between the cities that made up most of this countries,FDIs always comes in when the economy is stable and profit can be taken off the host country.Nigeria economy is stable right now but if we remain the way we are rightnow,we will be in deep trouble in the next 2 to 3yrs.Japan is one of the most developed country in the world but nobody is investing there, have anyone asked why?

percipi1: Section 6 provides that “Any person who, otherwise than in conformity with the terms of a licence granted by the Minister or under other lawful authority, uses or displays¬”
Going by the above section, we can safely assume that Patience Goodluck assumes the use of the Coat of Arm on the authority of the President which falls under “ other lawful authority” Therefore, she does not need to apply for a Minister’s licence.
I think this should settle the controversy. The First lady, I regret to say, is perfectly in order
if the first lady is in order,I guess the president is out of order for giving her the authority to use a "counterfeit"seal, state Governors wives must not be allowed to do same, what the are doing is belittling their spouses offices.
