Harristo, it's pretty much dicey than what you summed above. The Nigerian 1999 constitution by the military is terribly faulty and it really needs to be amended. Going by Section 147, subsection 2 which states that Any appointment to the office of Minister of the Government of the Federation shall, if the nomination of any person to such office is confirmed by the Senate, be made by the President., I guess it never occurred to the brains behind the constitution that a president may one day, want to oversee a particular sector directly by becoming a minister in his/her own tenure. I believe the issue is complicated beyond what what the Senate/you (harristo) mentioned above. I believe the reason for screening candidates is to ascertain if they're up to the task which they intend to take on. It doesn't feel right, even though the constitution did not do justice to the present scenario, to have the president, the Commander-In-Chief of the Armed forces of Nigeria, go through the screening process like those he chose. After all, nominated ministers are asked to take a bow and leave. I see no reason why the Senate is convulsing on this issue. Rather than seek ways to amend the constitution, the silly senators are interested in amending the constitution and granting immunity to the Senate President and his deputy. Rubbish! |
gbosky22:He obviously didn't know and most importantly, it would have been impossible for the UK to get him then if/when the then government refused to give up one of their own. Britain would not want to soil her relationship with Nigeria, hence, the need to stay mute. But since there's a new man in charge, someone whose main drive is having a Nigeria we can all be proud of, then it's quite easier now to revisit Alams' case. I pray the president allows the UK in furthering their cause. Anthing for a better Nigeria. |
Meanwhile, our Lagos state house..., I meant governor has been passive. I can only imagine what Fashola would have mapped out, activity-wise, in celebrating teachers for their many jobs in making us become the persons we have become. |
TopHand:This is not the issues, really. Every politician understand the game, just that Fayose knows how to add the media to bringing about colour to his many gatherings. I've never been a fan of his but this... This action of his has left me with no other choice but to admire him. Teachers are life builders and as such, they should be celebrated. God bless the governor of Ekiti state. I pray the APC will never dare to rain on your parade. This is one thing you'd never see most governors do. Most notably the governor of Ogun state, Ibikunle Amosun who has positioned himself as a tyrant who not only fires a teacher but one who silence youths in the eye of reportage. When there seems to be just one governor out of thirty six to give back to teachers, it tells a lot. Cc Lalasticlala, Fayose has indeed done something worthy of mention. |
WETINUSABI:This may be a bit lengthy but it's needed to help you grasp the true meaning of the name. "Yehoshua" is a compound name consisting of two elements. (1) The prefix "Yeho–" is an abbreviation of the Tetragrammaton, God's Four-Letter Name: Yod-He-Vav-He or YHVH. In the Hebrew Bible "Yeho-" is used at the beginning of certain proper names: Jehoshaphat, Jehoiachin, Jehonathan (the "J" was pronounced as "Y" in Medieval English). The suffix form of the Tetragrammaton is "-yah" ("-iah" in Greek, as in Isaiah, Jeremiah, Zechariah, or Halleluiah). (2) The second element is a form of the Hebrew verb yasha which means to deliver, save, or rescue. Thus, linguistically, the name Yehoshua/Yeshua Jesus conveys the idea that God (YHVH) delivers (his people). Simply put, the literal meaning of Yehoshua is deliverer and Saviour (Isa 9:6-7). |
WETINUSABI:It actually doesn't affect it. The name is powerful enough and would manifest if called upon in any language. Just as the Yorubas call Jesu, the Hausas Yesu and so on... It still doesn't change the name. He cuts across all languages and understands us even when we call Him in our native tongue. It's not abused, we converse in English language most times in spiritual gatherings. However, whoever choses to call Yeshua or other transliteration should be encouraged to do so. Note: Greek, Latin, Aramaic, and Hebrew are not the only languages in the world. I believe there's nothing wrong with describing God or Christ with our native tongue. He would hear and answer still. |
My own is simple; let them recover most, if not all she has stolen from the Nation's coffer before dashing her 20 years ![]() The bigger they are, the longer their jail term... Diezani herself knows she's not in any way free but her minions her think she is. Truth is, she has indeed boarded a one chance ride ![]() |
Warlord3000:True, we hate fines but what happens when law enforcers are not around at that said point in time? We go back to the same lawless, uncouth, unruly and annoying system wherein one would be branded and a slow poke simply because he couldn't stand the rave of the moment. We're lawless until every Nigerian out there come to reckon with the fact that wrong is wrong and must not be practised whether supervised or not. You cannot say a child has a sound reading culture just because he reads when his parents are around. What happens when the parents are not there is what describes the child. |
chukwudi44:Nah... The local JTF are community residents with weapons of various sort. They've been doing very well in the past. I could remember a particular print published an article about them intercepting food supplies meant for terrorists. We honestly need them and this is not beyond them. To the guys above me insinuating Boko Haram should have long died, I put it to you that you're hypocrites. GEJ could not defeat them in six years and you want what the president to do the same in just 3-months? I laugh. The Nigerian army has indeed recorded success in the past few weeks and we must hand it to them. But then again, we must understand that the sect cannot be so dumb to have a single hideout. The NA uncovered many hideouts while the ones yet to be found remains safe for the sect to attack from, at least for now. I know you folks love to wail but please wail responsibly ![]() |
No, the president cannot stop that and it is not his work to. There are law enforcement agencies in every state and it's up to them to see that societal rules are upheld. This unfortunately is not the issue, you might be surprised. Nigerians (we) are lawless and are eager to flout the law just to satisfy our sense of belonging. What would a typical Nigerian do at night when he sees a traffic light around Ikeja at about 10:30pm with no traffic warden around, no traffic jam, little or no vehicles at that point? He'd readily ignore the light since no one is watching! The same applies to us all. What happens when we're not being watched ![]() Even the security and law enforcement agents on assignments would readily ignore traffic rules because they're on uniform and are duly recognized by everyone. I believe Nigerians would come around someday to see this but I can say it's not anytime soon. Some of us flout rules for a living and there's nothing anyone can do about it, lest we say we've been taken to the military regime once more. |
bankyblue:Maybe... Just maybe. But even at that, you'd agree with me that common sense is not that common as perceived by many. Just saying. I see a rerun in Rivers... There are no two ways about it. |
CaptainJason:No! We're not. Was it not obvious? Patience Jonathan wrecked havoc in the Rivers elections. There was nothing hidden about it. Even the so-called policemen scampered for safety. It's quite simple; the election was indeed marred by violence. The IGP understands that his boys are cheap, hence the reason for being monitored, and true to that he was not disappointed. A Nigerian policeman can conveniently compromise his standard the moment he sees #5,000. The incessant arrest of policemen of late is indeed notable. Heads of various groups, ministries and organization have been on a purging spree. |
What do these blood thirsty demons want? What sort of humans derive joy in killing fellow humans for no reason? It's been a while we heard of the activities of the local JTF. I sincerely believe we need them alongside the Nigerian Army. While the NA is advancing into tougher areas and communities suspected to be hideouts of these animals, the local JTFs should overseer and contain the ones targetting residential areas. It seems the local JTF has been scrapped ever since the President came in as we hardly hear of them. May the souls of the departed rest in peace. |
johnydon22:Thank God you saved me from the stress of writing out a long epistle... OP here's your answer abeg. Yehoshua (Greek & Old Testament) Yeshua (Hebrew & New Testament) Yeshu (The Galilean pronunciation of Yeshua) Jesus (English & Contemporary) Jesus is the English name for the Greek transliteration, Yehoshua. The Hebrew variant, Joshua or Yeshua was widely used among the Hebrews, while Yeshu, though of the Galilean tongue is also the same as Yehoshua and Yeshua. Note that "Joshua", "Jeshua", and "Jesus" are really the same name. That is, the name "Jesus" is a Latinization of the Aramaic Jeshua or Yeshua, which is in turn taken from the Hebrew Yehoshua, or Joshua. |
Suddenly the book of remembrance has been opened concerning her. This woman and Saraki have something in common; the ability to run before they're chased. She's been in the UK ever since Buhari's ascension. The UK authorities should help send her to Nigeria via DHL, FedEx or any other shipping agency. We need her safe and sound. It would be unfair to Nigerians if she's prosecuted in the UK. Their prisons are quite conducive and it doesn't speak well. She doesn't deserve any special treatment from the commoner who is rotting away for stealing food items. Meanwhile, we're 18 days away from the Nigeria clasico... ![]() ![]() ![]()

Which Saraki abeg The one that has been practicing forum shopping or another![]() |
OtunbaJega:And to think that his argument is based on "he's not a petroleum engineer" is funny. 1. What happened to the immediate 'past petroleum engineer' that was placed in charge 2. Where were these experts when the former petroleum minister was living a monarchial lifestyle, feeding off of Nigeria's wealth? 3. The President is not a petroleum engineer but he once served and is responsible for the existence of Warri refinery under Olusegun Obasanjo during the military regime. Where was the expert when some Nigerians called for building new refineries? Abeg he should go and sleep. I'm okay with the president and Kachikwu. The president is not new to the sector and whoever has 2 heads should come and steal under his nose. |
AMD's battering has only begun! The interesting aspect of this whole saga is that there's no way, I mean no way she'd be quizzed without GEJ coming to the fore. The simultaneous spotlight shining on the Saraki and AMD is just so good to be through. If some people like they should wail from now to the end of the world. Justice must take its course! |
IzonOwei:Quite true... And then the literates, enlightened and sane people voted a man that once said; 1. Ordinary stealing is not corruption. 2. How much did Nwobodo stole? Money that is not even enough to buy a Peugeot car. 3. Who told you Nigerians are poor? We're the highest number of private jet users in the world. How then are we poor? ![]() ![]() ![]() |
anonimi:Another Nairaland link is your source And to think that the link you provided bothers on railway projects when I clearly asked for the 14 schools Jonathan built. Now I believe UNESCO![]() |
The APC should stop their flimsy excuses and strategize. I've never seen a party that loves foul cry than the APC. If they have proofs they should come out and do so. And if they don't, they should hold their peace and look forward to the election. On a second thought, I wouldn't trust Fayose as well with the Ekiti Gate scandal still fresh at heart. |
anonimi:Could you please list the phantom 14 universities built by the former president and also mention how many of them are operational? |
Stella Oduah I. Sincerely knew it wouldn't take long before she's caught in the web of one of her many scandals... Oduah and scandal are like 5&6. Justice should take its course abeg. |
I'm really tempted to say this it's either Tinubu's or Obasanjo's handiwork. Tinubu's signature in dealing with someone is sudden criminal case being visited. The tradition of the Yoruba race is fast disappearing, all thanks to petty politics, sheer greed and selfish interest. The unseen hands actively functioning behind the curtain of the Oba selection drama would rubbish the significance of the Ooni title. It did before with the Late Oba Sijuade. I once witnessed first hand disrespect of the Ooni by a popular Indigenous artiste who is a product and an icon of the music department of OAU (I'm sure some know who I'm referring to already). Aregbesola's impunity comes to mind. I don't blame them though since the late Oba disgraced the power of the crown to a certain degree. I was in Ife two weeks ago and it was funny to know that one of the candidates to the throne bought power transformers for members of several communities just because he wants to get there at all cost. These people and their political godfathers should let tradition play out in installing a king. Ile Ife is far ancient and bigger for petty politics to reign supreme. Let the "Afobajes' and those responsible for choosing a king do it the traditional way. Ile-Ife may become a relic rather than significant historical city. |
All these international organizations and their lust for unverified statistics. It still baffles me on how they drew their conclusion based on survey tracking, with the mention of Katsina as probable case study. 65 million is really on the high side and it's indeed scary... Hungerbad and Balloski, the wailers you're referring to are not stark illiterates, some, though not all are educated but not enlightened. A case study of a chief wailer accusing the opposition for chasing him from Facebook, whereas he was only asked by Facebook to verify his account ![]() |
Vince77:Unfortunately, they're not. I'm not in any way defending Saraki but the case was not VS Saraki or for stoning Saraki as the title suggest, rather for disturbing a religious gathering. They are facing a charge of disturbing a religious assembly, contrary to Section 212 of the Penal Code Law.If the poor and his own people can easily appear in court, why then has he been practicing 'forum shopping' ? Thank God we're in October already. October 21 comes to mind![]() |
By 'react' you meant 'kicked' against it, shey? All I see in the picture is almost all of them saying yes while one or two persons reacted. As long as their reaction does not hinder the progress of Nigeria, I'm good. I think the impending clampdown on the sector is the reason the President took the mantle. I guess he's trying to prevent cases of disappearing files when full auditing commences, according to Kachikwu. |
Mtchewwww! This is not true abeg. I watched it live and I can tell you that your picture is obviously doctored. You people should get a life abeg. Happy Independence Day ![]() |
Thought as much... I guess the NNPC was waiting for Madam Alison Madueke Diezani to recuperate before they proceed ![]() “I wondered if the corporation was ready for the kind of sanitisation that we needed to do if I had to join the company. When I talked further with theThis pretty much sums up the article. Mr Kachikwu , whatever you and the President and any other well-meaning Nigeria need do to restore sanity to the sector, please do. True Nigerians who desire a better tomorrow are with you on this one. It his high time we forged ahead understand that corruption is not a value added advantage of office but a cancer to our economy. It's been a while anyone said a thing about the former petroleum minister. She ought to have recuperated and returned to Nigeria already nau. ![]() Wailers, can you please not wail today ![]() Let's respect the greater good of Nigeria and pray for a better country. Happy Independence Day!![]() |
dejt4u:Nice ... The certificate is enough to cover for the ID card. The ID would be collected upon receiving your certificate and would be stapled alongside your clearance slip as well as the receipt you were given for the certificate at the Cash Office. |
dejt4u:Lol... 2k because you were allocated ETF as a student or what? Was it for damages Mtchewww! Please ignore them jare and go back there on Monday. I was given Awo in my final year but I couldn't stay since I consider it too lousy for my liking. I gave it to a school son after I had paid and did the necessary things. I thought there wouldn't be issues afterwards since I had a place of my own off campus. Guess what happened when I went for clearance? I was asked to buy six (pieces) of louvres that was broken while in the room. I couldn't argue, I smiply went to Lagere to get them and they signed my form.I think you should bargain with them to let you pay #800 - #1000. It's better that way. |
