The strike probably happened to both AC and DC Circuits, That's why you should have both DC and AC SPDs tied to proper earthing, and Also ground your panels.

Besides this, are there other things that may make it easy for lightening to kill an inverter especially when the house you stay in has earthing?

Definitely High Voltage. Your PV Breaker and Fuse should be rated 16A 500V DC and your PV Cable should be 4mm MAX

A 4mm² cable is ok (at most 6mm²) the 10mm² is unnecessary.

Ur panels sud be joined in series cos of ur Inverter type and that wud keep ur amps same. I'd pick a 6mm for ease of expansion/upgrade later

Cable are sized based on VMP, IMP and distance.

The most practical wire for solar panels is PV1-F 750V-1000V Anti-Stretch Shielded Outdoor solar cable, this cable is most common in 4mm2 and 6mm2. A very rough rule of thumb is for arrays of less than 20A can use 4mm2, and 20A or larger should use 6mm2. If a larger size is required, it is recommended to run twice from the array to the solar controller.

That's what the installer I contacted said I need to run it. How bad is it? And how easy is it to get the one you are recommending? Someone also told me that because the panels are big that the cables have to be 10mm.

Hybrid gives you an Inverter, Charger, and MPPT, cheaper than any standalone.

example with 250K. you can have
a 3kva inverter with 60A charger,
80A MPPT, go and price stand-alone equivalent.

Hybrid allows you to customize slightly when grid charge, how much grid charge, when Solarcharge, Only Solar charge during the day and Grid charge in the night, etc. with standalone, you need to have good know-how and other tools to achieve these.
