PoliticsRe: Obama In Nigeria, Oh Sorry, Ghana! by savanaha: 5:43pm On Jul 13, 2009
londoner:
Then why dont the Nigerian PEOPLE follow the good example of the Ghanaian PEOPLE and look inwards.

The corrupt politicians of Nigeria do what they do because they CAN. The majority of the population which dwarfs them in number choses to do no more than TALK.

The spotlight is on you, no longer the politicians come the next election.
One example is the whole electoral reform bill. Even Yar Adua has said citizens are the ones to make their reps bring up the issue and enforce their wishes.

Where are the threads here dedicated to actually DOING something about it? How many Nigerians are engrossed in making a change, rather than talking about what they dont like?

Nigerians have sadly become a nation who talk and do nothing. Both the people of Ghana and the people of America know that, afterall they put in opposition and the ruling parties could do nothing but watch. Nigerians on the other hand are waiting for the ruling party to vacate office and install the governement they want, without them lifting a finger.

You have the leaders of your making.
As Jamaicans say, "Don't give your soul away for a bag of flour and a pound of chicken back." I am not current with the electoral system in Nigeria but I wonder if some people get a bag of flour and a pound of chicken back just to vote in a new clown in suit.
Like I said before it would be great if people would say they have had enough and do what the Iranians did but even then. . .

Plus the politrickcians have the abiliy to pit suffer heads against themselves.

I asked savanaha not you or is this savanaha with a different alias.

Well if you care to know my thoughts on your comment then i will tell u. I think it is crappy.

why? because:

The internet is a virtual reality. . .hello? When a society starts to use unreal exchanges, interactions and transactions in "cyber space" as an avenue for making a livelihood(an affluent one at that) then that society is already heading the wrong direction.

You say you are a nigerian?

Let me ask you. . .what exactly is your biological and indigenous historical connection to this corporate entity called nigeria?
That's not me. And I agree that the internet is not the means to start a revolution or whatever. Maybe it can be used to show the world or update on whats going on but it will never do the ground work. Most of the people suffering the most do not have access to the interenet. It would be great if we (youths) could do something but I think it unfair for those presently far removed from the problem to incite a riot.
I wish people would say that they have had enough and stand up but then am not in Nigeria. . . which means I will not ask others to risk their lives while I will be on Nairaland.

Ok. Well said.

but give us an idea of how "nigeria is to be fixed?"
There are so many things that can be done. First of all I think people (Nigerians) have to stop worrying about who is visiting and where and fix internal problems. Rather than aesthetically improving the country for an Obama visit why not fix urgent situation, like the fact that there are people who don't have running water, the reliance on generators. The absolute dependence on the fact that there is oil. . . .

Ok so this bbq was not held in the US therefore its not some people's fault they could not attend. Therefore it is only fair we see pictures. Maybe that way we will make it a point to attend next year no matter where we are.

you had basically no point. Neither did you indicate politics could be the reason ghana was selected ahead of Nigeria. you mentioned irrelevant "issues" like classy politicians (whatever that means), planning (as if Nigerians cant plan), armed robbers.

Pls read Bawomolo's one-liner. It contained more points in there than if you converted your post into a 100-page novel.
So David do you think besides the fraudulent election in Nigeria that both Ghana and Nigeria are similarly corrupt?
PoliticsRe: Obama In Nigeria, Oh Sorry, Ghana! by savanaha: 1:11am On Jul 13, 2009

Obama didn't visit kenya and Nigeria for a reason. fraudulently elected governments.
Very true.

So the first African American President of the USA visited Ghana before the almighty corrupt Nigeria. hmmm, we are fukin behind. Its a shame.
Yes Nigeria is corrupt and there are other not so corrupt countries that Obama did not visit. Rather than people bothering with the fact that Obama did not visit Nigeria what needs to be done is for Nigeria to be fixed.

Christianity EtcRe: Christians. . .stop Eating Pork. . .! by savanaha: 5:18am On Jul 11, 2009
$osisi:
Muslims,
mind your businesses and let people eat whatever they want to eat.
First off the most popular meat amongst Christians remain beef, fish and chicken
Muslims don't eat pork yet the places that do have less infant mortality, better standard of living and longer life span.
Is the average Muslim living longer than the average Christian despite your morbid fear of pork?
You don't eat pork yet Muslim diabetics were injected with porcine Insulin like everyone else
Hypocrites.
You won't eat pork but agree to be injected with pork.

In case you don't know many restaurant foods are flavoured with pork products. tongue
Hahaha! I never thought of that. That is so true and funny. I wonder if doctors tell muslim diabetics.

that you never experienced it does not mean it doesn't exist.
Tribalism in Nigeria would probably not have existed if not for the British. Nigeria was not meant to be a single country. Way too many people of different culture and background under one roof and that, my friend is a good recipe for disaster.
Exactly!!!
PoliticsRe: Sink Immigrants' Boats-british National Party Leader Nick Griffin by savanaha: 8:48pm On Jul 08, 2009

I disagree. I was born here, grew up for sometime in Nigeria and then back living here now. I am yet to experience any racism biased towards me. A lot of people may frown at this, but I have experienced more tribalism in Nigeria, than I have experienced racism here. smiley
I actually have heard stories from British born and grown Nigerians of the racism in Britian. Some were spit at, things thrown at them. These are from the mouth of those it happened. Wasn't there news yesterday of a man who was shot thrice for wearing an Obama shirt. Maybe you are one of the lucky people that have not experienced it or maybe you don't notice it but. . .

i think she did receive one.
There has never been an black person who has won the Nobel prize for science or medicine. I was reading an article on that and according to the article there is still racism in that respect.

@ Savannah

but africans suffered their own bondage colonialism. so it would be rude for african americans to create a derogatory term or anyone to create a term just because they were colonised.

calling someone a cat based on something than ended 120 years ago does not make since to me. but that's just my opinion.
I am not sure what part of America you grew up in but African Americans have many choices in derogatory names for Africans. From African bootyscratcher to what not. I have never been called any of those but am beyond sure it is used. The Akata word I don't even know what it means but. . .

Thats just wishful thinking. . . ofcourse you are wrong! They are tribes and you missed the Kurds anyway! I'm sure you also heard that Obama would visit Nigeria instead of Ghana. Keep hearing things and you could need PROZAC.
Why don't you reply the same then seven more times. If you are a muslim, shame on you for being so dumb by calling Shiites other factions of Islam tribes. Unless Muslim is now an ethnic group.

And about the pieces loving Muslims threatening Seun's life. It is widely known by others on this forum. Especially those that have been here longer than I have.

Ok I have checked the religion section and I notice theres not many Christian or other religion's thread but there is alot of Muslim's thread so poster, yeah, this is based on a popular demand basis.

Because honestly lets say for sports, if there not enough people to post a thread regarding Ice Hockey, I dont see any reasons on why should I open a section for Ice Hockey.
I think there are two main types of Muslim, the Sunnis and the Shiites or maybe am wrong. Anyway I think the seperate Muslim thread is because the Muslim's threatened Seun's life at some point. Something like that I have heard.

Yeah, I hear all of you guys talking. And just see denial of the true meaning of the word. If it really meant nothing then you could just call black American's 'cousins' or something like that. It's not hard to come up with a word. And if you guys can't even narrow down a definition, then it must not be an important word in your language. I mean, I if chose a word for you guys like, Ferels. As in Ferel Cats. Meaning something that was captive or tame and now is living freely, then How would feel about that? I could twist it and turn it and say "look guys, we call you guys ferels because you escaped bondage of the white man and now are free, but ferel is not a negative word man, it just means African people now. We don't mean anything by it." How would feel about that?
Except that it wouldn't make much sense since African Americans were are the ones in bondage.

~Sauron~:
A Nigerian man to marry a baby mother in this land of abundance?? shocked shocked shocked shocked shocked
I hope you are loaded to the hilt cos if not. . . . .that is a miscalculated gamble.
I was going to say this in my very first post decided against it. Nigerian men are waiting for young girls that are virgins and this one is talking about Miss Georgette$ is thinking about having a mixed kid and marrying a black/Nigerian man. Ke Sera sera.

They should have mounted a camera there be4 bursting them and hook the camera to the internet for people to see how messed up the people are.
Then get them all arrested and thrown to jail for life.
Sleeping with a 10 year of girl? That is sickly pathetic
I doubt people seeing them in Nigeria matters. People are constantly looking for virgins and the youngest person to have sex with. It wouldn't surprise me if people were being for the fact that they were paying for sex and not because the children were young. What is physically attractive about a 10 year old girl. It is basically the same anatomy as a ten year old boy.

i understand and like what your saying ., , but for me when someone asks me for my name is give them the full name , no nickname or anything.because i dont like nicknames , but that is a personal prefrence smiley
If they wouldn't butcher my name and twist the meaning I would only give them my full name. Seeing as I hold the meaning of a name strongly and translate things word for word. I don't want someone messing up my name which has GOD in it and twisting it into something else. I get easily annoyed when people mess up my name and sometimes I have embarrassed people that might have been trying.
RomanceRe: Am I Wrong In Wanting To Have A Child By A White Man But Not Marry One? by savanaha: 5:53pm On Jul 06, 2009
So if you are wanting to have a mixed child with a white man for aesthetic reasons, why not go for artificial insemination? That way there is no other man involved. Also do you truly believe that if you had a biracial child and then other black children you won't have favorites? I mean it seems odd that you want atleast one mixed child but you won't. . .
RomanceRe: Am I Wrong In Wanting To Have A Child By A White Man But Not Marry One? by savanaha: 5:24pm On Jul 06, 2009
Georgette$:
i would still get married so i think the financial aspect is covered up , but i have the desire to own at least one mixed child.
So when you "marry" the Nigerian man with your biracial child are you planning on also having a black child or only parading the mixed kid as a great accomplishment?
