HITV bidded 3 times what DSTV normally paid for the right and the EPL did not blink in renewing the right. Let me add that they now have exclusive right to all the 10 matches (no more 2 matches on DSTV). But, let bthe truth be told, we are not getting quality entertainment from HiTV. |
What Thiery did was bad but it is what all footballer do day in day out. It just happened that his own determined the fate of the game. When the ball goes out of play and two opposing players raise up their hands to claim the throwing, one of them is definitely attempting to 'cheat'. Haven't you wondered why goalkeepers and defenders always raise up their hands to signify handball even when the attacker uses his head. If FIFA can not employ technology, then we have to live with kind of situation. As Roy Keane pointed out, Ireland also enjoyed this kind of fortune during their qualifiers, they are only shouting now when the decision was against them. Again, what about that Anelka penalty call? |
God bless Nigeria. Where was Shola when all other players were labouring to secure the world cup ticket. Now that he realised he will never play for England, he wants to sound up Nigeria. I remember he was called up sometime ago and he shunned the country. More like what Fashanu did in hay days. In any case Ameobi can not even make our 1st eleven even if he bribes his way into being called up. Anichebe is currently struglling to make the team and I think he is a better player than Ameobi. |
If we allow him to lead the Eagles to the World cup, then we should expect our worst outing ever. He was only allowed to complete the qualifiers because he blackmailed the NFF. Remember his plea to Yar'adua that he was the one that qualified the Eagles in 2002 but the NFA sacked him and gave the job to another person who performed worse than he would have, refering to Onigbinde. However, if all the NFF can hire are the likes of Berti Vogts or Bora Millutinovic, then I would rather they continue with Amodu as these calliber of coaches never performs any better. I heard NFF is already speaking with a couple of coaches, Fathi Terim of Turkey, Trapattoni of Italy and Avram Grant (former Chelsea coach). We need to get it right, otherwise there is no point sacking Mr. Twelve only to replace him with Mr. Dozen. |
Up Fashola. Fashola for president. |
A lot of Nigerians complain daily about the deplorable state of the country but have never wondered what role they themselves have played in making the mess out of the country. Home and abroad, Nigerians are quick to blame all the woes of the country on politicians and castigates our previous leaders. However, if we check ourselves, we will realise that some "little things" we sometimes do are as capable of bringing down the country as are the acts of our politicians and past leaders. If you have ever engaged in any of the acts listed below, then you have equally contributed negatively to the state of the nation. 1. A lot of Nigerians now pay for mercenaries to sit exams (WAEC, JAMB etc) for their child/ wards and turn around to blame government for the state of education in the country. 2. Many people in Lagos and other cities tip NEPA (or PHCN) officials to alter their meter setup to charge less and then complain of erratic power supply. 3. Many people don't see anything wrong in buying Tokunbo cars from Cotonou and proceed to obtain fake papers in Nigeria ports, depriving the country of potential revenue. 4. Self employed people who never pays their taxes also blame the government for failure to provide amenities. 5. A civil servant, police officer or any other person who demand gratification or bribe before discharging his obligation has no moral right to blame any corrupt govt official. We can go on and on, these seemingly little things also contribute in no small measures to the backwardness we experience in the country. If we want the country to move forward we need to play our own positive role. |
moonraker:You are talking of Klose, what if we meet Spain with the full compliment of Torres, Fabregas, Alonzo and Iniesta with this our defence. I can bet we will concede no less than 8 goals. |
moonraker: |
I'm extremely happy for NigeriA and all Nigerians should rejoice and enjoy this moment while it lasts. I believed and hoped we will qualify and now that God has answered our prayers, we need to chart the way forward. |
Nigeria don qualified. |
Mozambique has scored. |
Goooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooal. |
Is this Nigeria team playing ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ?? |
Exposito. |
Besides patriotism, this team is not good AT ALL. It will be more heartache for Nigerians if this team goes to world cup. |
Bring the Swis boys now, Nigeria for glory. I love the atmosphere at the stadium yesterday. The captions on display shows Nigerians' ingenuity. One reads "pain for Spain", Another one says "Spain, even Torres and Iniesta can not not save you today". What about the fireworks even when the match has not ended. And to cap it all, almighty NEPA (sorry PHCN) contributed their own quota as usual. |
I still pray Nigeria qualifies Please say Amen |
Great kudos to the diasporans. It shows that home or abroad, Nigeria still remains their brothers' keeper. If only our politician will stop carryning away our funds abroad, then Nigeria will be a better place to live. No data, but I think the money Nigerians stash abroad yearly is far more than this inflow. |
Kobojunkie:There you go again, you don't have to be insultive to drive home your point. How do you feel if I tell you that you are a liar without any evidence or proof. I have my reasons for my assertion and If you must know, I live in Nigeria and I have not experienced power failure for 1 hour in the last 2 years. You may say it is lie again because you truly do not know everything about Nigeria. Now, this situation is not typical of everywhere in Nigeria but at least it is still a part of Nigeria. In my company, a lot of foreigners will do anything not to leave the country that fellow Nigerians call hell. And before you say they are overpaid, we have a lot of them that are retired and yet choose to remain in the country doing their own private business. If you haven't lost touch so much with the country, you will know that it is definitely not as bad being projected. |
There are so many things wrong in Nigeria but definitely not as bad as being projected. My personal experience with friends in disapora is that they have this feel-good factor whenever they read bad news about Nigeria. A friend of mine particularly looks out for bad news headlines about Nigeria and would be the first to call me to discuss the issue. The fact is that a lot of us living in Nigeria chose to do so for various reasons (I never played US visa lottery and I've never applied for the UK's HSMP even as I'm qualified to do so) while those abroad are also there for various reasons. It therefore saddens one that fellow Nigerians will take delight in rubishing Nigeria and calling the country and the people living there all sort of indecent names. There is a big difference between criticism and ridicule . My take is that unless you have changed your nationality, whether you live in Nigeria or abroad, we are all in this together and we must do our best to lift up the country. |
Nigeria has reached a stage where only a death penalty / sentence can have any meaningful impact on the fight against corruption. We now hear billions (no more millions) everyday going down the drain and the culprit, if ever found are sentenced to 6 months or 2 yrs in prison. Death sentence for all these people before they loot this country to oblivion. |
Let them play draw. Good for Arsenal fans |
Since either or both of Chelsea and Man U must drop point this week, Arsenal can not afford not to win this game. Prediction Wolve 0 - 3 Arsenal. |

Giving out loans that subsequently turns bad is VERY different from giving out loans without collateral. Bad loans is not alien to banking. Besides, the magnitude of FBN's bad loans has to be examined along side the loan portfolio size. |
Most of the high profile kidnapping victims were later released "without the payment of any ransom". Did they pay any ransom for Pa Soludo? I guess we will never know. |
Actor no dey die for film. A man must persist until the lady finally says yes or goes to the altar with another man, in which case it is confirmed she's no longer available. |
Absolute lie. Since when did Wenger start to combine couting job with coaching? |
GTB advert with that lady playing football with high heel shoe on the ground, in the air and scoring 4 goals among men |
I have watched a few Nollywood movies where a man would be the presiding judge in a case involving his own son. There was one last sunday (I've forgotten the title) where a female judge had to sentence her only daughter (Ini Edo) to life in jail for murder. My daughter (7 yrs old) asked me if I can allow her mother (a lawyer) to the same with my child and I struggled for a response. Lawyers in the house, does Nigeria judicial system allow a person to be a judge in cases involving close relatives and family members like son, daughter etc or is this just one of the many blunders being dished out routinely by Nollywood? |
This topic read "Hottest Nollywood celebrities" and everybody started posting and talking about nollywood babes. Whatever happen to the men. All you women wrappers. Must you talk about only women. Let's see RMD, Ramsey Nouha rt al. |
Ibime:I don't think anybody disagreed with the fact that Adokiye was saying the truth. We all know some if not all the players are overaged. However, if anyone can show me where Adokiye shouted this b4 the tournament, I will no longer question his intention. If a friend of your use his son to make money rituals and you only come out to expose him when he about to be given a chieftaincy title, wouldn't people ask you why you kept silent all along? The team list was made public, nairaland inclusive, why will he come out now when the boys are marching to glory. I seriously doubt he has good intentions for this so called revelation. |
