McKren:McKren, Football is a physical game and nobody says players should not challenged for ball. The guy that scattered Eduado's leg only got a red card. No fine, no ban and this was because he challenged for the ball albeit in a hard and rough manner. Van persie could claim he challenged for the ball, this is open to debate but Ade stamped VP when both of them have lost the ball. That was very close to his eyeballs and definitely would not be seen as an over reaction if VP lost an eye as a result. Ade should watch it, Diouf was a class until his behaviour overshadowed his skills. Just imagine the accolades he would have got after the match without the two ugly incidents. |
sealworld:The EFCC have not sentenced any of the banks' executive to jail or death, rather they are charging them to court so could defend themselves. How else do you want the EFCC to "allow them to defend themselves"? Akingbola should come home to come and defend himself. Our big men are funny, when Alamieyewhatever was wanted in UK he ran to Nigeria, Akingbola is wanted in Nigeria, he declared himself in the UK ah ah aha On another note, Sanusi said in a forum that he was aware that those MD were already making moves to get court injunction against the CBN's use of the report that indicted them and that was why he acted fast. We can't afford a situation where all criminals will run to court ( a la Odili) to get perpetual injunctions not to be investigated. He was their colleague, he knew the state of health of most of the banks. Soludo did a good job in the consolidation era, but he lost that steel of a regulator when he started dreaming of becoming his state governor. Imagine how much all these banks would have donated to Soludo campaign if Sanusi allows the madness to continue, and come to think of these donations would have been from the shareholders sweat, My sweat and your sweat. If Sanusi is pursuing an hidden agenda, time will tell. I will prefer that people dig deep into his career to uncover his financial misdeeds rather than focus on his ethnic and religious beliefs. Akingbola is an ordained pastor in the RCCG and nobody ever thought that makes him less of a banker. |
araoye:Adebayor is supposed to be a professional and as a professional you do not join issues with thousand of fans as some of them definitely may not be as intelligent. His wild celebration in front of Arsenal fans was uncalled for. To those of you whos saw nothing wrong in it, his apology after the matc shows he himself knew it was wrong. Adebayor owes much of his rise to stardom to Arsenal irrespective of the fan's boo and he should have handled the situation in a more matured way. Adebayor deliberately injured Van Persie when both of them have already lost the ball. This is not a good PR for a reigning Africa footballer of the year. Van Persie could have lost an eye to that attack. If Van Persie attempted to injure him as some guys are claiming here, then let's wait for FA's review of the footage as video evidence will clearly highlight who was cynical. On a positive note for Arsenal fans, Eduardo has just been cleared oh his diving incident. This was another player that has been booed in 3 different matches and has remained cool and calm. He did not run to the England fand to celebrate his goals, he did not stamp any opponent in his traversty, yet he knew he was not at fault. He was eventually cleared of the accusation. That is the definition of class. As an Arsenal fan, I have no doubt that Ade is a good player, wish him luck at Man city but no regret he left. He just need to rise above this petty level. |
FBS:O yeah. Ade was really good today. He had a point to prove but he did not need that malicious attack on Van Persie. That was unprofessional. See RVP comments on the incident. Robin van Persie has issued the following statement following an incident with Emmanuel Adebayor at Saturday's game: "I am sad and disappointed by my former team-mate Emmanuel Adebayor's mindless and malicious stamp on me during today's match. "We are both professional footballers and I know that the game is physical, I too have made hard and sometimes mis-timed challenges but never with the intention of hurting an opponent. He set out to hurt me today. "I knew he was aiming for a collision because he changed the angle of his body to allow contact to be made. He moved backwards when his natural momentum would have taken him forward. I find that deeply disrespectful. He has shown a real lack of class today, to me and the fans. "I do feel lucky that I have not suffered a greater injury. The contact was only centimetres from my eye. I have not received an apology from him, there were no words exchanged afterwards. He had his own agenda today and that is bad for football. It's bad for the game we all love. "I want to make it clear that this has nothing to do with the result of today's match. We do not hide from that disappointment but I need to speak out about his behaviour." |
Nigerians and prayers sha. Is this the first time they will pray at UN. Why is this so special to have caught this media frenzy. By the way, who prayed for Obama when he was seeking to become the US president? Me think he worked for it. Our over-reliance on prayers from "Men of God" is part of our national problems. Baba Adeboye prayed for Olusegun Osoba when he was seeking a 2nd term in Ogun state, Osoba lost. The man (Gbenga Daniel) who rigged out Osoba in the election has started getting his own dosage of prayers from this same person. Haba!!! Our religious leaders will never tell the political class the truth, yet they expect the masses to respect them. If Jesus Christ was busy rapping the ruling class, will he end up being crucified? This hungry reporters should just find something better to tell us. |
@Fu up , I am an Arsenal supporter will remain so. My fear is we should not let it get to a level where the club will no longer attract good players. It got to that level in Man City, it took their billionaire owner to rescue the situation. Newscastle used to contend for top 4 or top 6. Last season, it was Aston Villa's loss of form that handed us the 4th position. These are warning signs. If things get out of hand, Wenger will get another good club or country because he is a good coach. Now where does that leave the club. |
Introducing Adeboye, who was listed by Newsweek Magazine among the 50 most influential people in the world early this year, the planners of the event described him as the one "who holds the largest prayer meetings in the world in his country Nigeria." If largest prayer meeting in the world is held in Nigeria and the country is still like this, then we must have been praying for other countries instead of our own country. Abeg, let them not invoke holy ghost on the internet o, I still dey enjoy nairaland, |
F u up:Yes it was a good start. However a sparkle of temporary brilliance and inconsistency have been our problems since. I never called for Wenger's head, fact is HE is even the reason why this average boys are performing at this high level. I don't know how many of this boy's on their own will make it in Man U or Chelsea. However, if you do the sme thing the same way, you are bound to get the same result like we've been getting for the past years. Either Wenger or the board will need to chenge their philosophy. We can't keep losing quality and going down when other clubs are streghtening. Arsenal do not have exclusive right to champions league appearance, the earlier they realise this the better. |
Fellow Gunners. Let us tell ourselves some home truth. The poll result on todays game says 67% of us believe Arsenal will win. It looks like our expectation is not moderate. Have you ever asked yourself why Henry left Arsenal? The guy loved Arsenal and still does. He moved on because he realised that Arsenal are not going to be in contention for any trophy under the current conditon. He has since moved on to win a TREBLE. Anybody currently watching Spurs against Man U will realise that we are likely to struggle for 4th position this year. Much as i will continue to support Arsenal, I will never expect any trophy until we dont have the likes of Bendner, Diaby and Denilson regularly making out starting 11. At this rate, Fabregas will start considering another club in search of trophy, next may be Van persie and next and next until Wenger will realise that he is gradually destroying the very legacy ha has laboured to build. |
Arsenal has surmarised a week of football disappointment for me. I doubt if this team really has the ingredient to challenge for top prizes. Last season arsenal was less than strong Arsenal, yet instead of strenghtening team Wenger and the board in their wisdom decided to sell 2 of our best players and kept the money in the bank. That is definitely not how to win a championship, |
Lamido * (Recession + stock market crash) = Downsizing. My heart goes the guys affected. More pressure on those that still have jobs. |
Congrats to Aroma. The guy really deserves it. I remember when a guy named Quadri became the first person to win 1 million Naira, he was celebrated and invited to shows. This is just te beginning of the accolade for Aroma. With this MTN should raise the prize to 20M. I will be the to win that one. I've been playing for this game for over 5 years, one day sha, I will get invited to play the game. |
Man City 2 - Arsenal 3 I really don't care what the eventual scores come out to be. ALL I WANT IS 3 POINTS. Go Gunerssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss |
I imported a fairly used Honda Accord (2002) model from the US to Nigeria last October. It arrived Nigeria Port (Apapa) in January 2009 and I got it cleared paying all necessary custom and other vehicle registration dues. I work in Port Harcourt and because I knew what the Nigeria Police is capable of, I double checked with my neighbor who’s a custom officer and he confirmed the papers were okay. I set out on my journey from Ibadan to PH by 6.00am and I’ve not even reached Ikire (less than 30km) when a police officer stopped me and checked the papers. He told me that photocopies of the bank tellers in the particulars were not legible, that the papers were fake, that the car must have come in through Cotonou and that he was going to impound it. I tried to explain to him that I cleared the car through Apapa port and paid all the required levies but he would not listen. When I insisted, he said he will call their "custom support squad" and that he will release the car if they confirm the genuineness of the papers. When I asked how long this will take, he said they will arrive “in the next 2 hrs”. I did not plan to spend 3 days on the road so I had to cool down his nerves and “settle” him so I could progress on the journey. I passed through other police check point with similar experiences (bribe for no offence) and the only custom point I passed through had no problem with my papers other than requesting me to wash the car for them. I did this at about 12 police check points from Ibadan – Ife - Ondo until I reached Ore intersection and spotted a black jeep with FGN number with police escort. I decided to do a James Bond and I closely followed these cars from Ore until they veered off my way at a village very close to PH. I counted not less than 18 check points where I would have been extorted. I have not travelled with car since that time ‘cos I hate to pay all these men in black for no just cause. Now I need to attend an occasion back home with my family. How do I convince these men in black to go after armed robbers and other criminals and stop harassing innocent citizens whose taxes are being used to pay their salaries? |
I thought i undertand english language, until |
back2back:They say it is criminal to be law abiding in a state of anarchy. There is no rule of law in Nigeria and he will be foolish to subject himself to the misrule. I don’t think Abiola’s family is happy today their kin was murdered in exchange for this brand of democracy. When Dele Giwa was once asked whether Nigeria was worth dying for, he replied that Nigeria was worth living for. That does not make him a coward. Leave Ribadu alone, as long as the likes of Ibori and Odili are walking the streets free and Aodoakaa is still our No.1 law officer, he will never get fair hearing. If I were in his shoes I will run away for the sake of my young children. |
It's a Good thing to do. I often forget though but I encourage my family members to do it before and after eating. |
can somebody give me the contact for the presidential committee on Amnesty? I'm also a millitant from Ibadan. I no get gun to surrender, only cutlass |
lamba lamb:Lamba lamb I'm an accountant, that's why I did not apply for the position when it was vacant. will you pardon your mechanic if he fails to fix your car break very well just because you know say " no be small tin at all" It is called responsibility. If it is only to put 11 players on the pitch and substitute 2 on the hour and another one on 78 minutes, then i think I'm also available for the job after they must have sacked Amodu. Then i will turn around and blame you 'cos I know you'll understand it is not a small thing. |
back2back:Did they actually declare this this man wanted? I guess you know how many security checkpoint he must have passed through right from the Airport to Gani's house and back to the US. Mind you the report did not say he disguised like Alamieye, If they really have a case against him, they should have arrested him. It is not for him to do their job for them. I though they arrested Madam Ibru at the airport, that tells you more about the issue. Ribadu is my man, he is not a saint, there are not many in Nigeria (or anywhere else). I respect him for the job he did and I think many others outside this country also respect him as he is now being invited to give speeches on anti corruption is some other countries. |
beknown:Fellow Nairalanders, I’m new on this forum and I don’t know if you guys have taken this kind of challenge up in the past. I don’t know the disposition of this man that was assaulted but I think NL can make a bold statement if we can help him press charges against this “honourable” member of National Assembly. Gani is no longer here but we have other lawyers who are equally passionate about human right and could take this case up among us, either for free or on a bill to be footed by NL. I think Nigerians should not just moan and resign to fate as nobody will change this country if everybody thinks somebody else will do it. Just my own opinion. |
Amodu! Amodu!! Amodu!!! How many times did I call you? If you know what is good for you just face your job and collect your fat salary (which you are probably sharing with Taiwo Ogunjobi / Sani Lulu). We all know you are not competent to hold that exalted position of our national coach after your several fail tenures. Why blame other people for your ineptitude? Were you forced to use a player you don't believe in? For some hypertensive Nigeria fans, your failure might just be their saving grace as you are bound to aggravate their condition if we miraculously qualify and your are still "in charge" at the world cup. Next time you'll blame the pith, referee and even CAF for putting us in that group of death that contains Africa superpowers like Mozambique and Kenya and the current world champion- Tunisia. Amodu = Blockhead. |
Madness is not restricted only to the naked man eating from the dustbin. We need to start conducting psychiatry test on our would-be public office holders. Some of them are simply lunatics who should be in a rehab. They steal money their fifth generation don’t need (Abacha, Tafa balogun et al), they build houses a sane man would not contemplate (Babangida, Igbinedion), they blow siren when going to their villages even when there are no cars on the road, now tell me what more is the definition of madness. This man wants people to worship him simply because he was “selected” to represent his people. I am now convinced that this is the era of “misrule of law” and that this is one of the by product of Yar’adua’s “zero point agenda. |
UNLEASHED:His hand did not Hibernate. He probalby remembered the Harry Arogundade case with Miss Uzoma Okere. To think that the lady is also a daughter of a big man and nothing has been done to her assaulter other than the fact that the case is still in court. Where will this security man get the resources to press charges, He must have decided to "leave the fight for God". |
Eagles get Mozambique, Kenya boosthttp://www.ngrguardiannews.com/sports/article01//indexn2_html?pdate=110909&ptitle=Eagles%20get%20Mozambique,%20Kenya%20boost A colleague of mine called my attention to this piece in the Guardian telling me that I'm just a pessimist saying Nigeria will not be there in south Africa. Now this is becoming a comic. Why on earth do we need Mozambique and Kenya to do our not-too-difficult job for us? I remember we were in this situation in 2005 and were hoping Angola will drop points against some other countries, it never happened. Angola that never won any away match in all the qualification round somehow found the will to win the last game away when it mattered most. Amodu has eventually apologised to Nigerians but still blame the loss on "poor and unprofessional attitude of the players. He requested our support for the next 2 matches so that he can continue to earn his fat salary. Let us support him ooooo because WE STILL HAVE NOT QUALIFIED FOR NATIONS CUP oooo |
Nigeria, Good people, great nation. I wonder why they are only being prosecuted on a two-count charge for that big crime, why not 120 count charge like the NPF normally does here. I think Madam Dora should try to add another charge of "bringing Nigeria to disrepute" to their offence or better still bring them to come and face the charge in the country after they finish their sentence over there. |
I heard on Channels news yesterday that Ghana FF says they would not play the scheduled friendly with Nigeria if we fail to qualify for the world cup. See the shame and insults our SE are bringing upon the country. SUPER EAGLES OF SUPER NIGERIA, |
Fellow Gunners, I can't wait for the international break to be over. Almost the entire Arsenal's 1st team is involved in either world cup qualifiers or friendlies. We've been lucky so far with injuries and I pray today's matches do not deprive us of any player(s) for the weekend match against Man City. I just have a feeling that if keep the tempo of this good start to the season, we might win have something to show for it come May 2010. GUNNER FOR LIFE. |
It is difficult to criticise Osaze on his effort, he's no Messi or Ronaldo, but he always gives his 100% whenever he plays for the country, just look at the determination that resulted in the 1st goal that was shortlived because of the lack of leadership on the pitch. Would you rather we played average players that would give us their best or egoistic "skillful" players like Mikel who believes they're doing us a favour playing for the country?, |
What is the exchange rate to US$ or the Naira today and at which bureau de change could i exchange for today's money ![]() Offer it to our colonial masters, they should be interested in the piece 'cos it shows that their legacy has not been completely destroyed. |
They should just leave Amodu to complete the distruction so that he can get full credit the job he'd done. The only addition to the "Eagles" crew that could be of any effect is if we can people in the mould of "Baba Eleran" of the IICC days to come and use juju to work on the Tunisians for a slip!!!. Why do we wait until qualification is no longer in our hands before we realise that Amodu CAN NOT do this job. The Tunisians are more serious than us from the coaching crew to the palyers on the pitch, that explains why they raised thier game when it mattered most. |
