Nice one Ekiti either give federalism or increase allocation.- doesnt make sense to give a state less thean it could make if it had federalism, current arrangement's based on number of LGs.

lagos will always be a acn state if not pdp. n pdp lagos at all levels are all yoruba aswell. neither party will think about throwing up a non yoruba as gov candidate. so ben can start his own political party or w/e if he likes. |

PointB: those though important are not the electorates. the electorate of lagos are scattered across the state. they are not really influenced by the obas and area boys of this world. by the way, I know a few area boys myself, and they are bunch of losers! go n say that to them when its election time instead of yarning online about next gov. losers or not when its time for politics they are ready- which i like n have accepted thats its lagos along with obas n imams! n ben is really unknown despite the fact he is part of the government. |
Politics › Re: Olorunimbe Mamora As The Next Lagos State Governor? by sbeezy8: 9:45pm On Jul 29, 2011 |
Negro_Ntns: Well you see, Yoruba society is a patrilineal one. Identity in Yorubaland is sourced through family lineage and so in old days when we had tribal marks, the marks are distinct and denote lineage.
Let us assume family line A (agbole A) lost a son on the battle front and he wore no name tag or picture badge. If the soldier had a tribal mark we can locate his family and house. So in a sense yu can say Yorubas had a means of personal identification (SSN) that predated modern civilization.
Now, if a male from agbole A marries female in agbole B, their offspring have entitlements primarily in A and secondarily B.
In the case of Lagos the Island has always been the center of political, cultural, commerce, social anD so on, so most often people talk of Lagos abdsent mindedly and in exclusion of other Obas in the stateAn like in Epe, Ikorodu, Badagry, Ikate, Isolo and so on. But even when you limit candidacy to Island, still, the agbole and the lineages are distinct and they are all known by the politicians and their aides.
A very good example of such dispute over lineage was in Governor Jakande. There are two tapa (Nupe) chiefs in Lagos; Oshodi-Tapa and Jakande. The dispute itself was nothing but just political treachery. What if Yinka Willoughby wants to be Governor, how would that be decided? In fact this has also happened in past. The Willoughbys, the Browns, the Williams, DaSilvas, Sabados (Salvadores), their ancestors weré resettled slaves and they lived in the campos/igbosere/kakawa corridor and they have their own lineages but due to influence from the CMS missionaries and education, these families kept an arms length distance from this tree-identity structure and never thought anything meaningful of it but I hear they have reassesed that and now follow the Yoruba model.
Most people think Lagos is cosmopoltan and so anybody can see office and win. Wrong! The parties vouch candidates frm bottom all way up to the head family of that Agbole. The first endorsement comes from the family llineage. If the candidate's birth/blood pedigree is in question the family will not endorse.
My candidate is a true lagosian on mother's side. His father maybe too, from other parts of Lagos state maybe but Mamora is not an IsLand name.
i agree see the thing people dont get is all these people who ancestor settled in lagos are not just "settlers" but are indeed lagosian these families have married into lagos families whether island or ikorodu. the present day families you named are all related to one another. i myself am related to kosokos fasholas baloguns, banires, animashauns, shittas. many more- despite the fact my name isnt a lagosian or yoruba name for that matter. for over 150-200 yrs. . . its impossible to tell pedro kamson fowlers williams etc .not to contest because they are all fro prominent indigenous families through mothers grandmother, great grandmothers. everyone knows that.- between the two pdp- acn both party members are related BY FAR. 3 4 5 cousins just different political beliefs. PointB: ^^^ Lagos metropolitan nature will be tested after fashola. Igbos, Ibibio, Efik, hausa, Ijaw, etc will decide who rule lagos after fashola. Not all these internet warriors. How about Ben Akabueze for Governor of Lagos? ben has no political clout among indigenous lagosians obas , n even isale eko area boys. if his mother was from lagos it would be more likely. had a yoruba name and muslim aswell |

Culture › Re: Who Are The Yoruba In Benin Republic? by sbeezy8: 7:17pm On Jul 28, 2011 |
Andre Uweh: There is Yoruba in Benin but they are small. It is about the size of two local govt areas in Ogun state. The three major ethnic groups are found outside Nigeria. For example, Yoruba in Benin, Igbo in Equatorial Guinea and Hausa in Niger republic. you cannot compare ibo to yoruba or hausa cause 1 those igbo in Equatorial Guinea moved their recently n are not indigenous, n 2 the govt of equatorial guinea regularly executes igbos n counts them as nigerians. @post yoruba is spoken by not only yoruba but other ethnic groups cant really tell the difference between a yoruba in benin n an egun ewe/fon/ bariba who is speaking yoruba because many non yorubas use it as second language or sometimes third. n they dont callemselves yoruba but their hometime names |

2)HIS NOSE IS REALLLLY WIDE- LIKE BIG HAS SHIIT
3)he has such a shittty wardrobe theres no yorubaguy in our area that dresses so stupidly. |

It doesn't matter what complexion an Igbo has, we still look good. she ugly too ezeagu: . . . . and Igbo people are supposed to be the ones with a complex. Genevieve look like a monkey. you have a complex of some sort cause she look a monkey, has nothing to with complex light dark or anything. shes just ugly Ileke-IdI: Oh really? And yet you're the one that keeps screaming about dark Yoruba ppl. Most Yorubas that bleach are celebrities, and Igbos bleach more on nollywood than Yorubas. You tend to see dark skin in Yoruba movies. We love our skin shade as is. More more concern with body shape than skin color. to think igbos dont bleach is a misconception I knew a girl ibo she was dark brown not dark but def bleached to be light skinned. help her clear up her acne as well |
