@AdvanceDNA:

Good day everyone, please is a senior care worker with the occupation code: 6146 eligible for visa on the UK salary requirements. I checked and I noticed the annual going rate is £18,600 (£9.54 per hour). The employer is paying gross salary of £30,400. Do the employee need to worry about anything??

Also, is it a must to pay for the (£624 per year) Healthcare Surcharge as a skilled worker when applying for my visa application.

Please, kindly respond to my questions as it is very urgent. Thanks

6146 is on the shortage occupation list...so u are good to go with the senior care worker title...
And yes, 30,400 is more than the minimum required salary home office said your employe can pay you... So u and your employer are good to go.......
more salary means more tax for government grin grin

The health and care visa is exempted from health insurance charge .... The application module won't prompt you for IHS fees once u select that ur visa is a care visa.... Kapish..

Travel / Re: My Japa Plan Has Been Destroyed by elasticlala: 10:37pm On Oct 26, 2023
In life don't always give up easily.
There are many things that are involved here; save the money in $ as soon as possible. You can't be talking of investment in a country with an unstable and worsening economy as Nigeria. You night think that money is big but my dear, it is nothing and the value keeps reducing per minute.
Let me tell you my story...
I was saving money in Nigeria since last year April after I got my new job, trying to buy a good car ... by the time i was to buy the car this year, the price of the car doubled and everything became extremely expensive such that I was almost having depression because I couldn't even afford a Nigerian used of the type of car. So I decided that i was going to rather save more and use the money to Japa next year... but our plans are usually not God's. I got to the office one morning and saw an advert from nowhere in my mail, read through and I was qualified, applied for the job that morning and was invited for an interview 3 days after, followed by another interview a week later and then the final interview after one week. to the glory of God I was offered the job and 45 days later, I landed in the USA. The funny thing was that 3 days after I arrived, I was paid my first month salary and i started crying when I got home because it was more than my 5 years gross salary as a PhD holder in Nigeria. Moreover, it is not just the salary, you will start living a good life in a sane environment where you wouldn't have to be queueing to buy fuel, withdraw money, looking right and left before running to cross a road, always plug phone because NEPA will soon take light, buy rice and other items at home because the prices would soon increase et al... come on!
So, my dear don't EVER think of giving up and stay back....
Athena6:
So Nigeria have finally happen to me, I thought if I save a little to the 5M I have, it would be able to leave this country by next year.

But right now, it is impossible, I saw on Twitter how a lady was begging money for flight ticket which was about 2.2M, just flight ticket o.

Months ago, a relative of mine told me someone is looking for a dependent and he will connect me to the person, he said the payment was 4M and I was not going to pay much after that and I will stay with the person in the UK before I settle on my own but I was forming big girl saying I will do my process by myself.

Now look, dollar have increased, the money is now worthless, anyway when there is life, there is hope.

Nairaland please help me think of a business to start with 2M, I can't just leave the money in the bank to keep on depreciating.

Thank you

Forget it; Akah can never have any good intentions!
The man is supposed to bury his head in shame for the gross incompetence of the Board under his leadership. Instead, he puffs like expired bread and feels like an emperor all over the place!
Nonsense and ingredient!
Chibuking81:

We should not judge the book by its cover. The board chairman might have good intention toward the teachers.

I remember some months before the Senior section received their salary, the UBE board posted that the promotional letter is ready for signing. Meaning that it was prepared before the governor gave express approval for level 12 step 6&7 for senior section. And the voucher for UBE payment might have been submitted before the approval.

Let's wait and see that of this month, the payment might reflect level 12 step 6&7 for both PPSB and UBE teachers.

And, differences pay as arrears. I pray for the arrears to be extended to June, because from look of things it might be one month. But if Governor decides it can be extended to June.

Striking a Balance: “A Plea to Prioritise Candidate Experience”

Dear Hiring Managers,

We know you have earned this position through years of dedication and diligence.

However we want to appeal to you to make recruitment seamless, efficient and rewarding (Gosh! I am tired).

There are many jobs pending on your desk and we are pleading with you not to ghost recruiting firms if you are not ready to hire for such positions.

If there are internal candidates, please be strategic enough to work with existing employees before inviting consulting companies to come on board.

Don’t start at all if you have people already pegged for such openings. We can’t start and then you ask us to put a hold on it.

It is so sad that we put unnecessary burden on both applicants and the recruiting firms to keep on exerting effort and commiting time to what would eventually turn out to be a wild goose chase.

Some applicants don’t even have the funds to come for these interviews and would have gone all out to borrow money for transport or buy clothings thinking if they get the job, they would pay up but then through your inaction, you make their dream unrealizable.

Please don’t make recruiting process unending with several twists and drama.

Don’t ask us to look for candidates with a certain profile and then, bring up fresh and impractical attributes and skillsets halfway through the process.

Don’t keep matching salary with previous pay without factoring in “quantifiable experience” for the underpaid-candidates unfortunate enough to start with struggling organizations that are trying their best in this harsh economic times. Let’s pay for the value addition they would be bringing on board.

Don’t ask us to get Head of Finance that must have: “ICAN or ACCA” with 10 years experience and pay N300,000 monthly gross salary. (Where can we find such).

Don’t expect candidates to tick all the boxes, please try to make room for subjectability as there is no science to Hiring.

Think back to the moment when someone took a chance on you and spoke on your behalf.

Please speak to management that most candidates are exhausted with the long interview stages.

Work on your internal process and get them ready to meet candidates within 2 weeks. It can be done.

You can Set up a time schedule and get their commitments before starting out.

Yes, recruiting can be more efficient.

Business / Wema Bank Enjoys CBN Salary Bailout Despite 239% Rise In Profits by Shehuyinka: 12:30pm On Oct 13, 2023
WEMA Bank has enjoyed the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN)’s staff salary bailout in the last 14 years despite growing profits by more than 239 percent over the period, Economy Post has exclusively gathered.

In October 2009, the CBN granted more than N87 billion in convertible loan to Wema Bank to support staff wages and other related activities of the bank.

The loan has a moratorium of 20 years at an interest rate of 9 percent. Based on the arrangement between the CBN and Wema Bank, repayment of the principal would be by bullet (payment of the outstanding lump sum) at the expiration of the moratorium.

Even though the interest rate on the amount was 9 percent, the apex bank reduced that to 5 percent in 2020 due to COVID-19 but restored it to 9 percent in September 2022.

However, findings have shown that the facility was granted to Wema Bank when it was struggling to pay the wages of staff members. In 2009 full financial year, Wema Bank incurred a loss of N7.53 billion due to a financial crisis facing the bank at that time.

“The Group’s consolidated accounts show a loss after tax of N7.53 billion largely attributable to the absorption of significant write-downs and trading losses from legacy
positions impacted by the financial crisis in our subsidiaries,” Wema Bank Chairman, Mr Samuel Olaniyi Bolarinde, said in 2009.

“In absorbing these losses, your bank has disseminated its corporate governance ethos to its subsidiaries and proven that the new management team did more with less, by delivering substantial profitability with a significantly lower inherited balance sheet,” he noted.

Lamido Sanusi Lamido was the CBN governor when this loan was granted.

Fortunes now better

However, things have looked up since then as the bank has long emerged a profit-making financial institution. In fact, the bank’s fortunes changed the following year when its profit after tax rose by more than 300 percent.

“The Group gross Earning grew by 14.7% increasing to N21.79 billion in the reporting period from N18.99 billion of the 9-month period to December 2009, Group’s Profit After Tax also grew from loss position of N7.53 billion to N17.46 billion
translating to growth of 331.7% within the same period,” Mr Bolarinde said while unveiling the 2010 full financial year results.

Politics / Kogi Guber: Dino Melaye The Face Of Hope By Toluhi Lanre by AnonPoet: 9:12pm On Oct 05, 2023
For every political minded Kogite, this season calls for a deep introspection.

For some, it will take the intervention of God to ignite change in Kogi State; for others, it will take the power of our voter card to orchestrate this change. Either way, what is apparent is that there is a (strong) desire for change and this is not merely a debate but a widely held notion.

The question as to who is capable to orchestrate change- wholistic growth and development as opposed to what is currently obtainable is perhaps the most important question to ask. As I have come to understand it, the quality of our state's leadership is grossly deficient.

Kogi state, as it appears, needs more than just a technocrat, it needs someone who really understands some of our key peculiarities as a state entity and is capable of navigating the dynamics of our national politics to make much desired impact across board.

The significance of experience in all of these cannot be overemphasized. It would take one with years of practical political experience to drive the much desired change in Kogi State.

Arguably, there are 4 major Contenders of in the November 2023 Gubernatorial Election namely: PDP,- Sen. Dino Melaye, APC- Alhaji Usman Ododo, SDP- Alhaji Muri Ajaka, ADC- Hon. Leke Abejide. These Candidates have variously gained a certain level of momentum, igniting strong campaigns across the 3 Senatorial Districts.

The question remains, who is fit for the Confluence Job? The Confluence Job is absolutely a rigorous one, which will, among other things include remedying systemic rots of many years, infrastructural decays and alot more. Hence, There is so much clarity required to answer the above question, such clarity must be devoid of sheer ethnic, political and social sentiments.

Out of the aforementioned candidates, Distinguished Sen. Dino Melaye is clearly the most positioned in relation to the issues raised in the preceding paragraphs.

From his days as a Students' Leader at the prestigious Ahmadu Bello University to being appointed by the then President of Nigeria, Olusegun Obasanjo as Leader of the Presidential Advisory Council on Youths and Anti Corruption; and later as Member HoR, then Senator respectively, Melaye has transversed many areas of political leadership through series of political engagements.

As a Senator, representing the good people of Kogi West in the 8th National Assembly, Melaye sponsored about 20 “people-centered bills”, with issues cutting across Education, the Welfare of PWDs, Domestic violence, Extra-judicial killings, discrepancies in subsidy and matters relating to the general economy.

In 2012, Senator Dino Melaye registered the Anti-Corruption Network, an Advocacy group which is affiliated to an array of Non-governmental Organizations in 54 Countries across the globe.

Through this group, Melaye has canvassed for outright good governance that is devoid of any form of corrupt activities; where necessary, he has used the tool of this network to institute legal actions against prominent players in government in order to redress varying issues of financial misappropriation, lack of accountability and general issues of gross misconduct.

In 2017, he released a book titled, “Antidotes For Corruption: The Nigerian Story” which in many ways detail different evangelistic know-hows that is capable of helping Nigeria combat corruption.

In ways that may be too numerous to mention, Senator Dino Melaye espouses a mixture of unrivaled experience, exposure, education to be one of Kogi's most qualified candidates for the forthcoming Gubernatorial election.

While the other candidate may have had their own fair share of political engagement, available facts are that, none is as eventful as the road traveled by Senator Dino Melaye.

While a voter's prerogative is uncompellable, the collective pains shared by all Kogites should make us to choose well this time. The issues surrounding non-payment of salary, poor infrastructure, unholy state recruitment exercise and poor security have become too rampant in Kogi State and the consequences are suffered by all.

As a state, we are a crucial time to salvage our situation and rewrite our narrative as a people. Undoubtedly, we have to choose wisely.

How do you know we were placed on Level 8 step 6/7? No one is sure of these things till we receive our promotion letters.

mela82:
Rivers State Teachers' salary Discrepancies

UBEB effected the promotion of staff in August and SSSB implemented theirs in September. It sparked a debate due to the discrepancies in remuneration. This note intends to help explain what is going on.

To simplify understanding, I'll use the salary grade of 2013 teachers to explain the confusion.

UBEB Teachers with B.Sc (8/3) were moved to (12/3) with a net pay of 108k. Teachers with B.Ed (8/4) were moved to (12/4) with a net pay of 112k.

Note that the above sum is for those who are subscribed to the contributory pension scheme. Those who didn't subscribe received 115k and 119k respectively. Anything other than the above amount received for the stated grade levels is classified under either of the following: *short payment*, *overpayment* or *omission*

SSSB teachers with B.Sc (8/3) were moved to (12/6) with a net pay of 120k. Teachers with B.Ed (8/4) were moved to (12/7) with a net pay of 124k.

Note that the above sum is for those who are subscribed to the contributory pension scheme. Those who didn't subscribe received 127k and 131k respectively. Anything other than the above amount received for the stated grade levels is classified under either of the following: *short payment*, *overpayment* or *omission*.

It's worth noting that each step in this grade level 12 has a salary difference of 4000 naira. 12/3 =108, 12/4 =112, 12/5= 116, 12/6= 120, 12/7=124.

The above can be verified from the payslips.

The two boards (UBEB and SSSB) should unify the promotion implementation in other to avoid a stand-off that could occur between teachers and board administrators. It's best if the steps used by SSSB are adopted by UBEB.

Politics / Akwa Ibom: Tribunal Dismisses Bassey (YPP)'s Petition, Affirms PDP's Umo As Gov by Nemere2020: 9:22pm On Sep 29, 2023
The Akwa Ibom State Governorship Elections Petitions tribunal has upheld the election of Pastor Umo Eno of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, as the validly elected Governor of the State.

The Tribunal chaired by Justice Adekunle Adeleye dismissed the suit instituted by Senator Bassey Akpan and his party, Young Progressives Party, (YPP) which challenged the election of Governor Eno in the March 18, 2023 election.

This was the summary of two and half hour judgement by the tribunal in suit with Number EPT/AKW/GOV/01/2023, which sought to nullify the daid elections.

The tribunal upheld the preliminary objections bothering on jurisdiction and non qualification of the 2nd Respondent, and declared that Pastor Umo Eno was eminently qualified and that the earlier judgement of the Supreme Court in the case filed against him by Mr Akan Ekpe Okon was binding to all human beings, in the world, including the petitioners.

The unanimous judgement read by the panel chairman, Justice Adekunle Adeleye fumed at the petitioners for abuse of judicial process in resurrecting the matter already buried by the Apex Court.

The tribunal also decided that the petitioners lacked the locus to challenge how the 3rd Respondent, PDP conducted its primaries to produce a candidate.

In striking out the accusations of electoral infractions leveled against Hon. Iniobong Robson Nnamso, the tribunal ruled that the said person was not joined as a respondent in the case by the petitioners and any decision taken under such circumstances would amount to lack of a fair hearing.

On another WAEC certificate of 1998, which the petitioners purported to belong to the 2nd Respondent, the Tribunal upheld the objection of the 2nd respondents, that it was a fresh allegation that was not in the main petition and that since the time for amendment of petitions had long elapsed, the petitioners were merely attempting to spring surprises, which run contrary to the provisions of the law.

Delivering judgment on the matter on its merit, the Tribunal further ruled that Pastor Umo Eno did not present a forged WAEC certificate as the WAEC official summoned via a subpoena as PW10, authenticated the certificates.

“WAEC did not disclaim the 1981 and 1983 WAEC certificates. Without a disclaimer by the issuing authority, the certificates remain valid.

“There is no legislation in Nigeria that a person’s name should be arranged on a particular order on a document.

“In the absence of any other person holding claims to the said 1981 and 1983 WAEC certificates, I hold that the certificates belong to the 2nd Respondent.”

“Even the 1st Petitioner himself told the court he was a victim of the same issue as three documents bearing his name tendered as exhibits before the tribunal carried different arrangements of his name, Albert Bassey, Akpan Bassey Albert and Bassey Albert Akpan. This is a case of a pot calling a kettle black,” the tribunal ruled.

The tribunal also dismissed the testimonies of APC wards and local governments collation agents who were paraded as witnesses of the petitioners as their testimonies were speculative and mere heresy.

The tribunal ruled that a witness PW16, one Daniel Edet Akpan presented by Bassey Albert Akpan, as a staff of the University of Uyo, was in fact a liar.

According to the tribunal, the witness claimed to have been admitted as a student of Quantity Survey of the University of Uyo in 1989 and graduated in 2021, spending over 22 years for the course.

The tribunal also wondered how a senior staff of a university, could not know the meaning of CONTISS, could not remember his telephone number, did know his gross salary and take home pay and came to the court with mask and fez cap, an indication that he was hiding something.

Accordingly, the tribunal discountenanced the evidence of the said Daniel Akpan, describing him an impostor, and also dismissed all the exhibits he tendered.

On the report of a so-called statistician (PW17) relied upon by Petitioners, the Tribunal ruled that the report is of no probative value because it was founded on reports of Petitioners’ unit agents who were never called to give evidence on their Reports.

The tribunal also held that the Statistician who confessed to having not been involved in any electoral matter before now, also admitted being well paid by the petitioners and as such had obligations to please his clients.

In summarizing its decision, the tribunal further adjudged that 2nd Respondent’s witness RW1, Uwem Okoko, tendered all the local government results of the election and none was objected by the petitioner, hence the decision of the tribunal to uphold same.

On the whole, the tribunal dismissed Bassey Albert’s petition as frivolous and baseless and ratified the election of Pastor Umo Eno as Governor of Akwa Ibom State.

Meanwhile reacting, a Lawyer to the petitioners ( Senator Akpan and YPP) Mr. Tunde Falola said they are displeased with the judgement, stressing, ” Thank God this is not the final Court. We put in our best, but in the wisdom of the tribunal they have given Judgement the way it went.

“Like I did indicate that once a party is displeased with the judgement of a Court,it is within it’s constitutional right to test that judgement. The petitioners will test the judgement at the appropriate Court”

On his part, a Counsel to the 2nd Respondent Uwemedimo Nwoko (SAN) said the decision of the Petitioner to appeal the judgement was expected.

“Nobody will do a Governorship matter to just end at the Tribunal. Even at the Court of Appeal I don’t even expect whoever wins to end there. There’s a window to go to Supreme Court. And given the issues that are involved , both political and legal issues, it is expected that the Supreme Court should test this Judgement”, Nwoko simply responded.

Politics / More Factories, Businesses May Shut Down As Diesel Hits ₦‎1,100/Litre by adenigga(m): 7:29am On Sep 27, 2023
• Over N1000/$ FX, rising crude oil prices, falling grid worsen plight
• Inflation, unemployment may rise amidst looming increase in gas prices
• NECA urges FG to remove VAT on diesel, PMS
• Nigerians should consider carpooling, explore electric vehicles, adopt public transit options

There are clear indications that more manufacturing companies and businesses in the country may shut down in the coming months due to the unabating energy crisis, which has now pushed diesel prices to over N1,100 per litre.

This dire situation is worsened by the foreign exchange crisis and the floating of the naira, all occurring amid dwindling purchasing power as there are signs that the prices of Liquified Petroleum Gas and Compressed Natural Gas, which are being adopted as alternative energy sources, may spike further.

The Nigerian Association of Liquefied Petroleum Gas Marketers Gas said last that the price of a 12.5kg cooking gas may hit N18,000 from the current N10,000.

Already, the number of factories shutting down yearly due to power shortages and harsh economic conditions remains worrisome as stakeholders yesterday, expressed deep concerns that without urgent actions, including halting taxes on petroleum products, job losses and revenue declines from the sector could severely impact the nation’s economic growth and its expected contributions to gross Domestic Product (GDP).

This crisis was further exacerbated by the impacts of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Naira redesign policy. In the second quarter of this year, manufacturers witnessed a 17.3 percent increase in the cost of production and distribution. Capacity utilisation plummeted by 5.6 percent, volume of production contracted by 6.1 percent, manufacturing investment decreased by 5.6 percent, employment dropped by 5.7 percent, sales volume plunged by 6.3 percent, and the cost of shipment went up by 14.3 percent.

The Manufacturers Association of Nigeria’s Confidence Index for the second quarter of the year identified high cost of energy as the foremost challenge facing manufacturing in the country. This challenge is compounded by high credit costs and lack of loanable funds, multiple taxes, charges, levies, consistent tax policies for local producers and importers, raw material unavailability and delays in receiving imported raw materials, high raw material costs, forex scarcity, high exchange rates, and poor forex allocation.

While the nation’s electricity grid remains unreliable for manufacturing activities with over 134 system collapses in the last 10 years, manufacturers have spent nearly N1 trillion to source alternative energy in the last seven years.

The manufacturers spent N129 billion in 2016, N117.38 billion in 2017, N93.11 billion in 2018, N61.38 billion in 2019, N81.91 billion in 2020, N71.22 billion in 2021 and N144.3 billion in 2022.

With an average of 95 manufacturing companies shutting down yearly, with Gloxosmith being the latest, over 4,451 job losses are being recorded yearly in manufacturing sector alone as factory output value dropped to N2.68 trillion in first quarter of 2022 from N3.73 trillion in the first quarter of the year.

With the price of crude oil inching towards the $100 per barrel mark, stakeholders have predicted tougher times ahead for businesses in the country as the actual electricity output remains around 3500 megawatts in the last 10 years.

Director for the Centre for the Promotion of Private Enterprise (CPPE), Muda Yusuf said the implications of the increase in the pump price of diesel would result in increased production costs for industries.

“Most small-scale producers are dependent on diesel generators as alternative sources of energy and this means that the production costs for them will go up. When you combine this with the forex crisis and all the other problems manufacturers are battling with, you can only imagine what will happen in the next few months.”

“Also, it will affect the transportation of goods and services. The trucks and trailers we see on our roads are the ones delivering everything from raw materials to finished goods and they all use diesel. Almost 100 per cent of haulage in Nigeria is by road as our rail and water systems are under-developed. This will mean an increase in the cost of moving goods from one place to another, since they’re powered by diesel engines.”

Yusuf worries that these challenges would further cause inflation to skyrocket.
Concerned over the nation’s economic outlook, former Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) chairperson for Apapa, Frank Onyebu said the implications are dire both for the economy and for consumers.

“The exchange rate is scary, the price changes as much as twice a day, always reviewing upwards never downwards. We used to joke that the dollar would exchange for one thousand naira but we never imagined we would ever get there. But look at it, we’re practically at a thousand naira to a single dollar and nothing seems to be stopping it from getting there, same as diesel. Both dollars and diesel will surpass one thousand naira at this rate.”

He pleaded with the government to take deliberate steps to halt the shocking increase and mitigate the suffering of local manufacturers, who are dying out rapidly.

“We must reduce the cost of governance and cut down on government spending. Government must stop all these unnecessary appointments, reduce wastages, create policies that encourage production, rehabilitate public infrastructure, improve power supply, eliminate corruption and create an enabling environment for industries to thrive. These and many more need to be in place before the government can talk about deregulation to us.”

He further pointed out that higher diesel costs will also mean higher transport costs as the cost of moving goods will also go up significantly.

“Labour costs have also risen because we understand that workers’ transport fare has gone up. We should also increase prices but how much can we really increase knowing that Nigerians are poor and struggling?

“Remember we are competing with imported goods from foreign countries that don’t have these many barriers we are dealing with here. Manufacturers here are having it tough truth be told and no matter how much we can endure, if the present situation doesn’t improve, many companies will relocate to saner climes while others will shut down. We know what this means, even more job losses and the economy will be worse off for it. I am calling on the government to save the real and industrial sector from total collapse,” he said.

While most heavy-duty vehicles rely on diesel, Nigerians have been advised to explore other alternative transport means to cope with the rising price of diesel in the country.

Stakeholders within the transport sector encouraged Nigerians to consider carpooling, explore electric vehicles, while adopting public transit options to cushion the effect of the hike.

They noted that the increment will mean an increase in household items, commodities and other things, stating that the government must quickly address fundamentals like wages; foreign exchange regime and security.

This is even as the Nigeria Employers’ Consultative Association (NECA) has called on the Federal Government to remove the 7.5 per cent Value Added Tax (VAT) on Diesel and Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), as measures to moderate increases in the prices of fuels in the immediate term.

Chief Executive Officer, West Atlantic Cold-Chain and Commodities Limited, Henrii Nwanguma, said this will throw up issues like salary increase; changing jobs and school for children to places nearer home; working from home; carpooling; online meetings and purchases as opposed to physical.

Nwanguma also added that rationalising movement; deployment of higher capacity vehicles; increase in crime (like “one chance”); demand for more efficiency in passenger and delivery services; use of cheaper fuels like gas (and the necessary switch over of generators and heavy-duty engines to gas from diesel), among others.

Perhaps, he said this will be the push many will need to jump into self-employment but it also calls for smart use of resources including collaboration. Like everything, there are positives and negatives.

Professor of Transport and Logistics, Lagos State University (LASU), Samuel Odewumi, said it is no brainer that the cost of freight transportation and manufacturing relying on diesel for their vehicles and generators will go up.

He said that will not persuade him to advocate for a return to the corruption burdened subsidy regime.

Odewumi, who doubles as Chairman of, Road Sector Committee, Chartered Institute of Transport Administration of Nigeria (CIOTA), said after all the prices of the same commodity is far more expensive in other West Africa countries, for instance, Ghana and yet industries are closing in Nigeria and relocating to Ghana.

“Our country needs to address other fundamentals like wages; foreign exchange regime and security.

“Let us hope that Dangote will be able to roll out the production of Diesel next month as recently announced,” he said.

Associate Professor at Keele Business School, United Kingdom, Emmanuel Mogaji, said the higher diesel prices translate directly into increased transportation costs for households.

Whether it’s commuting to work, school, or accessing essential goods and services, these rising costs affect the disposable income of families. This, in turn, can lead to adjustments in household budgets, potentially resulting in cutbacks on non-essential expenditures.

Mogaji said the increased financial burden from higher transportation costs can create stress and limit access to vital services, especially for lower-income households. It can also impede mobility and restrict opportunities for employment, education, and healthcare.

Considering these challenges, he said it’s imperative for individuals and households to explore alternative modes of transportation and evaluate their need for travel. This might involve considering more fuel-efficient vehicles, carpooling, or adopting public transit options.

According to him, as the world moves towards sustainable transportation, this increase may be what Nigerians need, a push towards exploring electric vehicles, bicycles, and walking as alternatives can not only reduce the financial burden but also contribute to a greener and more environmentally friendly transportation system.

Ultimately, he said the current diesel price surge underscores the importance of reevaluating the transportation choices and seeking cost-effective, sustainable, and inclusive alternatives that can mitigate the impact on household finances and overall well-being.

Director-General of NECA, Adewale-Smatt Oyerinde, made the submission, following the hike in prices of fuels, especially diesel cost that is almost N1,000.

He lamented that the challenge of the increase in diesel prices is even more precarious for local industries and auxiliary businesses that mostly depend on diesel to generate power as the electricity supply from the national grid remained epileptic and costly.

According to him, local manufacturers and businesses are really not finding it easy to stay in business, as industries would suffer most severely as the majority of their products are price elastic.

He said this limits their ability to transfer the element of diesel price increase to the prices of the commodities.

“LPG has been the last resort of households since the price of diesel and DPK escalated to about N800/litre, but unfortunately it has been drifting beyond the reach of households.

“It is a very precarious situation for transporters, industries and households as the prices of PMS, diesel and LPG are going beyond reach,” he said.

In the short to medium term, he said there was the need for the government to denominate the price of gas in Naira and in the long term, incentivise private investment in gas aggregation as well as resuscitate the four national refineries.

Noting that the price of diesel had stayed high at N800/litre since government ended subsidy in 2023, however, he said with the removal of the fuel subsidy, the price of diesel grew by almost N200/litre (25 per cent), which conforms with the law of economics given that PMS and diesel are close substitutes.

The salary of civil servants is for feeding, transport and shelter.

Obasanjo removed personal shelter for rent with his consolidated salary structure.

Buhari removed rent with his gross failure

Tinubu has now removed transport with subsidy removal.

And you want them to now retire?
Meaning no more food too.

Education / UNIZIK Dismisses, Suspends Lecturers, Others For Misconduct by Nobody: 6:19pm On Sep 24, 2023
The Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State, has suspended no fewer than 14 academic and non-academic staff, and other categories of employees, including students for various misconducts and offences.

About five lecturers were indicted of various offences including extortion of students who successfully completed their courses.

One lecturer was dismissed for using a student to extort money from other students. He was said to have “brazenly” listed names of students who passed his courses as having failed with the sole purpose of extorting them.

Another lecturer in the Department of History and International Relations was also dismissed after he was indicted of falsification of results and grades in favour of a student.

Three lecturers in the Faculty of Education were suspended “pending appropriate procedure” after they were indicted for obtaining money from students in exchange for unmerited scores.

The implicated students were also sanctioned, including a priest.

The priest and another were both accused of aiding and abetting examination misconduct after collecting gratification from students.

This was disclosed in a press statement on Sunday, signed by the Special Adviser, Public Relations and Special Duties, Dr. Emmanuel Ojukwu.

Ojukwu said this was a sequel to panel recommendations for the expulsion and suspension of the indicted officials, including students.

The statement read, “The Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, has taken disciplinary actions against the following staff and students for various offences.

“Principal Executive Officer 11, abandoned his duty post for a considerable length of time. As a result, he was indicted for gross misconduct and suspended from duty for six months to serve as a deterrent to other officers

“Senior Executive Officer was indicted for fraudulent financial transaction concerning the university. She was suspended for six months on half salary.

“Examination Officer in the Department of History and International Relations was indicted for clearing and graduating a student who had 12 outstanding courses. He admitted that he committed the offence and was therefore found guilty of falsification of results and grades in favour of the said student and was dismissed from the services of the university following the appropriate procedure.

“Two lecturers in the Faculty of Education were indicted for sorting, obtaining money from students in exchange for unmerited scores. They are suspended from duty following the appropriate procedure

“The students who were used for the collection of money were suspended for one academic year and one student was expelled from the university for financial fraud, swindling fellow students, exploitation and deliberate refusal to cooperate with the investigation.

“Another lecturer was indicted for sorting for grades and using a student to collect money from students. The lecturer brazenly listed names of students who passed his courses as having failed with the sole purpose of extorting them. The panel recommended him for dismissal as he was described as ‘unfit’ for the university.”

More information and the names of the indicted officers are contained in the school bulletin.

The amount on that table are consolidated. Meaning it is your salary for one year.

For example level 8 step 4

2013856 divide by 12months =
167 821 becomes your gross.

Therefore, gross minues your deductions =167821- 20k for instance, your net pay becomes 147,821 going forward.
Check your mail

If your previous net was 120k that means your arrears is 27k the government is owing you multiply by eight months=216k to be expected.

Thank you

My Wife’s salary Was a Mystery Until I discovered How Much She’s Truly Worth

In 2016 she told me her salary was N35,000. And then two years later, when she got promoted, I asked about her salary and she said, “Oh these people, don’t mind them. They added only N8,000 to my old salary. Because of her meager salary, I’ve taken up so many responsibilities in the house without complaint. I pay for utilities and pay for food. I pay the fees of our two kids, clothe them, and take care of their medical bills. When my wife sends me a grocery list, she adds sanitary pads. She buys dresses and clothes, comes to show them to me, and asks me to pay for them. She started talking about a car when our second child came in.
