medjai: I'm in total support. It's the only way to stop negative football. Many teams just park the bus for 120 minutes these days, wait for penalty shoot-outs and ride their luck.
Nothing like negative footie IMO as the game encompasses both attacking and defending. Play what you're good at and I'll play what I'm good at. . . . chikena!

medjai: They should find a fairer tie-breaker than penalty shoot-outs. It's just too cruel.

I wouldn't mind a point scoring system like in boxing.

Pizzaro Nails Eagles
by Humphrey Njoku 24 May 2012, 07:58
The Peruvian national team in the early hour of Thursday edged their Nigerian opposites, Super Eagles 1-0 in an international friendly at the 50,000 seats Estadio Nacional in Lima.

Forward, Claudio Pizzaro got the only goal of the match in the 36th minute from a counter attack that saw Eagles' goalkeeper, Chigozie Agbim roundly beaten.

The South Americans almost doubled the lead in the 39th minute but the Nigerian back line cleared the ball from danger.

In the 41st minute the Peruvians were on the prowl within Nigeria's vital area but this time they shot wide.

Eagles closest chance to level up came in the 42nd minute but Kalu Uche's shot hit the wood work for corner kick and the resultant kick wasted ending the first term with the Peruvians hanging on with their lead.

The Peruvians played more relaxed, settled game and actually were in charge of the midfield in the first 45 minutes.

At the resumption of play, Eagles showed some purposeful flashes but their opponents still control the game with their short passes and counter attacks .

Nigerian manager, Stephen Keshi pulled out the duo of Gabriel Reuben and Ejike Uzoenyi for Obiorah Nwankwo and Nnamdi Oduamadi respectively but the dividend was not immediately felt as the Peruvians punctured any move at their vital area.

To strengthen the attack and add bite to the Eagles' force, Keshi withdrew Henry Uche and Ogonna Izuchukwu for Gege Soriola and Raheem Lawal.

Also Obinna Nwachukwu gave way for Ekigho Ehiosun which combined to change the tempo with Nigerians dominating and pushing for the equaliser but still denied access by the brick wall mounted by the Uruguayan coach Sergio Markarian tutored side.

Agbim clearly stands out for Nigeria on a day his teammates lacked the tools to undo their opponents and practically shot wide.

The introduction of the Europe-based players added some bite but did not do much to open up the Peruvian defence for the vital equaliser.

Nigeria lost again after the first loss to the Pharaohs of Egypt.

Nigeria used the Peru friendly to prepare for the Fifa World Cup qualifier against Namibia on June 03 in Calabar, Nigeria.

Super Eagles coach, Stephen Keshi has said that his team were going to face a very tough Peruvian side in tomorrow’s international friendly at the Lima National Stadium.

Keshi, who led his team out of Nigeria weekend for the trip to the South American country, said the weather in Lima coupled with the passion of the Peruvians were enough to make the game a very tricky and complex encounter.

While ruing the absence of captain, Joseph Yobo, who is out of the game because of injury, Keshi said that he was confident that his players can cope with the pressure that comes with playing away from home.

“We are going to face a very tough opposition. It is not easy when you play against teams from south America. Peru are a good team with talented players and I expect a very difficult match. The aim is to play well and get in the best shape for the matches coming up in June.

“I feel sad that my captain (Yobo) is injured. It pains me so much but what can I do but to make use of the ones which we have. Nigeria is supposed to have at least four players who can fill a particular position in the national team at any given time but we are not yet there. We would try to make use of the ones available”, added Keshi.

The Nigerian squad is made up of Home-based players - Chigozie Agbim, Dan Akpeyi, Okemute Odah, Azubuike Egwueke, Papa Idris, Juwon Oshaniwa, Godfrey Oboabona, Sunday Mba, Uche Ossai, Izu Azuka, Gbolahan Salami, Ejike Uzoenyi, Ogonna Izuchukwu, Gabriel Reuben, Henry Uche, Obinna Nwachukwu, Kalu Uche and Overseas-based players - Ekigho Ehiosun, Raheem Lawal, Gege Soriola, Obiorah Nwankwo and Nnamdi Oduamadi.

Meanwhile, 22 Peruvians have been in training to face Nigeria and they are Goalkeepers - Raúl Fernández, Diego Penny, Leao Butrón, ; Defenders - Giancarlo Carmona, Renzo Revoredo, Luis Advíncula, Christian Ramos, John Galliquio, Jesús álvarez, Santiago Acasiete, Alberto Rodríguez, Carlos Zambrano, Yoshimar Yotún, Alvaro Ampuero ; Midfielders - Carlos Zegarra, Antonio Gonzales, Rinaldo Cruzado, Luis Ramírez, Ronald Quinteros, Carlos Lobatón, Christian Cueva, Juan Manuel Vargas, Michael Guevara, André Carrillo, William Chiroque, Renzo Sheput and Strikers - José Carlos Fernández, Claudio Pizarro, Jefferson Farfán, Paolo Guerrero and Raúl Ruidiaz.

The international friendly game between Nigeria and Peru will kick off by 8:00pm Peruvian time, Wednesday and 2:00am Nigerian time, Thursday.

This match is part of the Nigeria's preparations for next month’s 2014 World Cup and 2013 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. The Super Eagles host Namibia in a World Cup qualifier on June 3 in the southern coastal city of Calabar, before they travel to Malawi the following week. They will also welcome Rwanda to a second leg qualifier for the 2013 Nations Cup on June 17.

In my area, it was firecrackers & partying through out the night.

During the day, Chelsea fans had already draped a huge banner across my street, set up a wooden stage, mounted musical equipments and hired a local fuji artiste to perform overnight in anticipation of their victory. . .all these was made possible by one very rich alhaji (wey get levels for ACN & NURTW Lagos) that lives on my street.

I watched the match outside and when I got home around 11.30pm, the party was already in full swing with Chelsea fans/supporters dancing & shacking away lol. grin

Firecrackers were intermittently fired into the air with the Chelsea supporters cheering loudly when they went off. From time to time someone would shout Up Chelsea and the others would chorus. . .Blues For Life! I watched them for a few minutes from my balcony before going to sleep and it was fun.

Meanwhile, thread is hereby moved to the EPL section.

semid4lyfe: Not advocating for the casting of a ''Nollywood'' actress as the female lead in the movie (cos personally, I think most of them can't act with the exception of Ogo Okoye, Nse Ikpe Etim and very few others) but then again, the director could have gone the Danny Boyle - Slumdog Millionaire route, done thorough auditioning to get a Nigerian of **preferably** Igbo-Extraction based in the US/UK who has been to film school, performed in theatre (not compulsorily) and therefore knows the rudiment of acting. I wish her success so that the unheard voices and unseen terrors of the late sixties can be broadcasted to the world. Nne jisie ike.
At this point Chimamanda has little or nothing to do with the success or not of the movie.

She's sold the movie rights of the book and someone else (a screenwriter) has adapted it into a screenplay. It depends mostly on the Director & his crew and the cast now.

Arsene Wenger: To make it as simple as possible, football is first a technical sport. It is not natural to use your feet to do something. Your feet are made to walk through the street, not necessarily to play football.

So you have first to transform someone into a football player, and that is between ages 5 and 12 years old. When you come at 14, it is too late. That is why you have to educate people to teach the basics of our sport between five and 12.
Very well said and I agree. . .and that's were European's/South Americans have the edge over we Africans. Most under-10 competitions in Nigeria are played by kids who are well above that age and are just below a mark on the wall grin

Arsene Wenger: He plays for Chelsea, and if you play for Chelsea, you are a great player.

But since he has shown great quality. He is as well a bit of the Kanu type, he is strong in character, he is a fighter, and he is doing extremely well, but maybe you have more of these players in Nigeria who do not get the chance to go out.
Mikel, a great player? shocked Hehehehehe. . . .I laugh in boko haram grin grin

Playing for Chelsea does not mean someone's a great player. IMO Mikel is nothing but average. He plays ''text-book no be me spoil am football'' like an unskilled player. Can Wenger honestly compare him to Cheick Tiote or his own Alex Song?. . .both box-box free scoring DM's who cover the entire length and breadth of the pitch? Wenger no just wan fall Mikel hand cos it'd be unprofessional to do so wink

Moreover, is Wenger saying a Nigerian player must be playing in Europe before he can be signed by Arsenal? undecided Hmmmm. . . . .

Arsene Wenger: You want to give me sleepless nights (laughter). But we have maintained our level at the top, but we couldn’t finish…It s true that we missed winning, but we were at many times very close.

Let’s not forget that in 2006, we were in the Champions League final and we have never gone out in the championship against small clubs. We went out most of the time against clubs who won it, like Barcelona, twice. That is what people forget.
Nonsense! Nearly does not kill a bird and does he expect to win titles and trophies without beating the big clubs? undecided

How is someone opining that Thandie Newton is not a ''really'' good actress discriminatory? How does that make her biased and myopic? Please mention one memorable/standout performance Thandie Newton has had in a movie? Shey na Mission Impossible II?, Crash?, The Pursuit of Hapyness?, 2012?, For Coloured Girls?, Good Deeds? etc ? At best, she's just an average actress jare. . .

If parts of the movie dialogue is going to be in Ibo, the accent, pronunciation and intonation is gonna be off and I'll hate the movie for it

all4naija: Home grown person taking a leading role in the epic African rather Nigerian story is not guaranteed. You are deceived to think there are quite good number of individuals back home who can pull of leading role in this coming movie. Sorry to say they will mess up this movie if given the chance.
