Sports › NFF Spent N2 Million On MRI Test by semid4lyfe(mod): 7:30am On Jul 18, 2012
The sum of N2 million was spent by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) on players of the U-17 National Team (Golden Eaglets) picked for the Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) test.

An impeccable source revealed to SportingLife that a total of 40 players underwent the test last week at the National Hospital in Abuja.

The figure when broken down showed that N50,000 was spent on a player that took part in the last screening exercise held in Calabar, Cross Rivers last month.

"Unfortunately we are still expecting the results. We had expected that by now it would have been out since we have just this month and August to prepare for our qualifiers," said the source.

The results maybe next week. However, there are fears that some players may fail the test which Eaglets Chief Coach, Manu Garba has dismissed.

"It is not right for people to discredit the MRI test. The test has been medically approved by professionals in the medical world. 40 Eaglets are still awaiting the result of the test. The players I took for test are 17 years and below," the coach was quoted in some dailies.

odunnu: Hmmm.
How was this dude? Fat? Dark? I ask because the frog who stole mine mentioned Benin too. Said he went to school in FGC Ibillo. Said he needed a phone to make a call as he just had an accident with his car somersaulting and he needed to get money too but that his ATM strip got scratched in the accident. He showed it to me, also showed me car keys.
With all my sharp girl eyes, I fell for his lies!
I took the frog to Pleasure Island (an eatery) and fed him fat on my meagre income. Choi! Now I remember this, e don dey pain me again.
I believed his story, took him to a hotel, paid N8K for the night, gave him one of my phones with a promise of getting it back after work the next day. Foolish me, I didnt even get his number!
When I came to the hotel around 5.30pm the next day, guy had scaled. Heard he didnt even sleep in the room. Called a number he called with my regular phone before I gave him the other phone, switched off. I felt silly!
Saw the frog on fbk and confronted him, he blocked me.
Used my brother's fbk account and added many of his 'friends' and warned them about him, one admitted he had started suspecting he was fraudulent

Education › Senate Committee Queries UNILAG On IGR by semid4lyfe(op): 10:19am On Jul 17, 2012
The Chairman, Senate Committee on Education, Senator Uche Chukwumerije, on Monday faulted the low internally generated revenue of the University of Lagos, saying the institution should make three times the amount it claimed it generated through IGR in 2011.

The committee was at the university to carry out its mandatory oversight function on agencies and institutions under the Federal Ministry of Education.

The committee, which was obviously not impressed with the N2.6bn that accrued to the institution through IGR in 2011, wondered why the major source of IGR of the university only came from students’ fees. The IGR that came from the students’ fee, he said, was N1.36bn.

“My first question is on IGR. Many believe that given the tremendous entrepreneurial opportunities being offered by the megacity of Lagos, UNILAG should be doing at least three times better than it is doing presently in IGR. Why is it not doing this? Please we need your IGR profile from 2005 to 2011

“In each year, is the IGR a part of the budget expectation and clarified as such in the budget? Why is the major source of your IGR generated from students’ fees instead of creative entrepreneurial engagement with your urban industrialised host environment?

“For instance, the 2011 budget performance report indicates, ‘out of about N2.6bn from IGR, tuition accounted for almost N1.36bn while business operatives and other incomes contributed the other half,” Chukwumerije noted.

The Committee Chairman also directed the university authorities to give the committee the report on the mode of selection of contractors and vendors for project on the utilisation of the 2011-2012 IGR.

On how to tackle the perennial problem of underfunding, the committee urged the university to channel more efforts at exploiting opportunities in programmes such as repair of Third Mainland Bridge, the traffic challenge in Lagos, development of canal for tourism and reclamation of Lagos marshlands.

On the renaming of UNILAG, the committee asked the university authorities the extent to which they were consulted before the name change became a public knowledge.

The committee also asked the university to produce an estimated cost of change of name to the institution’s budget; if the policy announcement was enacted into law.

“What was the extent of consultations between the Federal Government and the university authorities before this policy decision?”

The senator said that the name-change issue would determine the level of peace in the university.

Responding to the name change question, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Rahman Bello, said that the institution would provide the committee with the financial, social and emotional cost.

Other senators in the committee include the Vice-Chairman, Prof. Olusola Adeleye, Senator Oluremi Tinubu. The committee also paid a short oversight visit to the Federal College of Education, Akoka, Lagos.

The provost, Dr. Sijibomi Olusanya, lamented poor electricity supply in the institution. He said the institution spends over N1m monthly on diesel.

He said, “Electricity has been a major problem for us. If we have steady supply of electricity, this college would thrive.

Speaking with journalists, the provost said that the college was also battling with paying its un-skilled members of staff. “Another challenge we have, three years ago, the Federal Government asked us to outsource workers- cleaners, security staff, on an agreement that it would pay the contractors. We went ahead to get a contractor. But up till date, the contractor has not been paid. We have been paying the contractor,” he said.

Politics › Federal Government To Borrow N633bn To Fund 2013 Deficit by semid4lyfe(op): 9:43am On Jul 17, 2012
Despite assurances by the Federal Government to reduce domestic borrowing, there are indications that it will raise N633.85bn from the bond market in 2013.

The Medium Term Expenditure Framework 2012 – 2014 obtained by one of our correspondents in Abuja on Monday showed that out of a proposed expenditure of N4.83tn in 2013, the Federal Government would resort to the domestic debt market to borrow N633.85bn.

Coordinating Minister of the Economy and Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, had at a forum raised the alarm over the nation’s domestic debt, which stood at $38.37bn (or N5.97tn) as at March 31.

She also disclosed that the Federal Government would establish a sinking fund aimed at reducing the volume of the domestic debt.

In an apparent contradiction of this intention, government, in the MTEF prepared by the Budget Office of the Federation, said it would run a deficit of N833.85bn in 2013 and 76.01 per cent of this would be funded through borrowing from the domestic debt market.

Other funds for the deficit are N50bn to be obtained from signature bonus and N150bn from the Stabilisation Fund/Excess Crude Account.

The Punch

had exclusively reported that the Federal Government’s domestic debt burden rose by N1.21tn between March 2011 and March 2012, a 12-month period.

Given the size of the domestic debt, the government had in the 2012 budget provided a total of N511.98bn for servicing domestic debt.

The amount proposed for servicing domestic debt would increase to N543.38bn, reflecting the increment expected in the volume of domestic debt in 2013.

The MTEF document also showed that the Federal Government would spend N1.69tn on personnel as against the N1.65tn it proposed on the same item in 2012.

There has been a steady increase in the nation’s wage bill since 2005. As at 2005, the Federal Government spent N443bn on salaries.

The proposed expenditure in 2013 would reflect an increase of 275 per cent from the 2005 wage bill.

Trend analysis on wage bill showed that the share of personnel cost as percentage of aggregate expenditure increased from 27 per cent of expenditure in 2005 to 34 per cent of expenditure by 2012.

The MTEF showed that the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan was targeting gross federally collected revenue of N10.09tn for 2013.

The amount represents an increase of N40bn or five per cent over the 2012 figure of N9.69tn.

It proposed an oil production of 2.55 million barrels per day. The 2.55 million bpd would be anchored on an oil benchmark price of $70 per barrel for the 2013 fiscal year.

The 2013 oil production figure represents an increase of 70,000 barrels per day or three per cent over the 2.48 million bpd approved by the National Assembly in 2012.

The National Assembly had anchored the 2.48 million bpd on an oil benchmark price of $72 per barrel.

The MTEF is the basis for which the annual budget of the Federal Government is prepared.

Specifically, Section 18 (1) of the Fiscal Responsibility Act states that the MTEF shall be the basis for the preparation of the estimates of the revenue and expenditure required to be prepared and laid before the National Assembly after being endorsed by the Federal Executive Council.

Alot similar issues go undetected in Nigeria. Ladies... Ladies..... 'cala'-ur-mamu'[/quote]Lol, topic reminds me of a movie I saw recently The Ledge

A couple is happily married with two kids ages like 5 & 3. When they newly got married, they couldn't bear children and they both go for "tests" but the wife is the one who picks up the results and she tells "hussie" everything is fine.

Some years later she gets pregnant and gives birth to their first kid. A few years later she gets pregnant again and gives birth to their second kid cheesy

Fast-forward to the present when the husband goes for some medical tests and he's told he's sterile and always has been. He confronts wifey and she tells him (in tears) she loved/loves him so much, she was afraid of losing him that it was only an "arrangement" for her to get pregnant cos he wanted kids so badly and because she wanted the kids to resemble her husband as much as possible she "did it" with his younger brother (who looks very much like her husband).

Very good, deep and thought provoking movie. Y'all should see it if you haven't

NFF President Blames Nigerians For Arsenal's Cancelled Trip

NFF President Blames Nigerians For Arsenal's Cancelled TripThe Nigeria Football Federation President Aminu Maigari has blamed a section of football fans in the country for Arsenal's cancelled trip to Nigeria. The English team had been scheduled to engage the Super Eagles in an exhibition game on August 5 in Abuja.

Maigari told Sporting Life: ''It is quite unfortunate that the proposed planned match was called off by the team. You would not believe that it was some Nigerians that were sending mails to the team, telling them not to come for the pre-season training tour.

''Now that the match is off, we would ensure that we get matches for the team to prepare adequately for the most important match.''

The Glasshouse is doing everything possible to organize a friendly match for the Senior National Team before their next competitive fixture against Liberia in September.
