Under the new arrangement, the backlog of seven months staff salary owed by the old outgoing management will be paid by the new management while all debts being owed by the old management will also be paid by the new owner.
I thought Jimoh Ibrahim was a business man shey? Are there any financial benefits that will accrue to him as a result of his acquisition of Newswatch? None! Except he gets a mouthpiece and a platform to vent and attack his political & business enemies.

Kai! More trouble for Mimiko

Politics › Re: Nigerian, American Investors Commit Multi-million Dollar To Form New Airline by semid4lyfe(m): 12:41am On May 06, 2011
In a show of renewed confidence and shift in strategy, a group of local and foreign investors are committing multi-million dollars into setting up a new airline which analysts say will change the face of the nation’s aviation industry.

The new airline, known as ‘First Nation Airways’ is being put together by American, and Nigerian institutional and individual investors that also include Skye Bank.

A source close to the deal told BusinessDay that the new investment shows the level of confidence foreign investors have in the country and the aviation sector.

The source attributed the new confidence to the regulatory capacity of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) and the huge passenger traffic on both Nigeria’s domestic and international routes.

“This is a huge market that no serious investor will toy with. Moreover, the new airline does not have the huge debt portfolio which is weighing down the old airlines from performing very well. A well capitalised airline as we see in ‘First Nation,’ which is also not bug down by family interference as in the old airlines will go places and investors will get profit for their investment in no time,” an industry source said in Abuja.

An aviation analyst at the weekend observed that the ownership structure of the new airline defies the practice where airlines in the country were run as family business.

Since the days of Okada Air and Kabo Air established in the 80s till now, most airlines in the country are owned as family businesses. Virgin Nigeria Airlines at inception and Dana Airlines were the only Nigerian airlines with equity not linked to single families.

Gbenga Odukoya, chairman of First Nation Airways confirmed to BusinessDay that the new airline ownership structure is a clean break from the past.

Odukoya who declined to disclose the names of the investors and their individual equity holding, merely disclosed that some American investors have come to “play big” in the aviation sector.

Interestingly, several reports conducted by various interest groups have pointed that the way forward for the industry is for airlines not to run as family businesses.

“The bane of the industry has been that the airlines were run as family businesses,” an industry source analysed.

FirstNation Airways is the same as Belview Airline that had a fatal crash some years back which killed lots of peeps and shortly after went kaput cos of bad management.

It may have new investors and ownership structure but it's still the same Belview management led by Gbenga Odukoya and we all know how that ended . . .

TV/Movies › Re: What Series Are You Watching Now? by semid4lyfe(m): 10:22pm On May 04, 2011
None!

I've only watched 3 series - Prisonbreak, 24 and Alias.
24 in particular was so good it made other series look mediocre and made me uninterested in watching other series.

Alias came highly recommended from a friend so I bought the Season 1 -5 DVD's and watched season 3 - 5. I keep telling myself I'll watch 1 & 2 but I haven't gotten around to doing so.

THERE WAS NO OUTSTANDING PLAYER IN THE TEAM
True! There were no outstanding players in the team but Chidi Osuchukwu and the captain Ramon Azeez did well IMO.

Anyway, I expect the likes of Nnamdi Oduamadi, Ahmed Musa, Joel Obi & others to be in the team to the WYC.

Just watched the VVV Venlo vs Feynöord match highlights and saw Ahmed Musa & Michael Uchebo's goals. . .Ahmed Musa's 2nd goal was v.good.

From the inscription on the vests Musa & Uchebo displayed after scoring, it seems Michael Uchebo lost his father recently.

Match: Nigeria vs Cameroun
(Africa Youth Championship 2011 Final)

Venue: Dobsonville Stadium, Johannesburg, South Africa.
Date: Sunday, May 1
Time: 2pm Nigerian Time

PREVIEW
With qualification for Columbia 2011 World Youth Championship already in the bag, the Flying Eagles of Nigeria and the Cubs of Cameroun have only the AYC 2011 crown to play for when they meet in Sunday’s Orange African Youth Championship (AYC) Final.

Nigeria and Cameroon both earned the right to contest Sunday’s final after victories against Mali and Egypt respectively in the Semi-Final. Nigeria defeated Mali 2-0 while Cameroon overcame the Young Pharaohs of Egypt 4-2 via penalty shoot-out.

Cameroon and  Nigeria have met on 5 occasions in the past with Cameroun winning 4 of those encounters: 1-0 in 1993 group stage, 2-1 in 1995 semis, 2-0 in 2007 group stage and 1-0 in the group stage of this year's competition. Nigeria's only defeat of Cameroun was a 2-1 win in 1999 semis.

Cameroun despite remaining unbeaten and boasting of the better defense between both sides having conceded only a goal, as against the 2 conceded by the Flying Eagles have scored only 3 goals while the Flying Eagles have scored 6 goals and boast the tournament's highest goal scorer in Uche Nwofor who has 3 goals.

This encounter is a repeat of the Group B match between both sides which was won by Cameroon 1-0, being the only defeat suffered by the Nigerians in this year's AYC. However, gaffer of the Flying Eagles, John Obuh is unperturbed by these past losses and is upbeat about his side’s chances. In his words, ''I have told the boys to be optimistic about our chances of winning the trophy because I strongly believe we will win on Sunday. Cameroon may have defeated us at the group stages but there is nothing that stops us from defeating them this time around''.

Motivation has come the way of the Flying Eagles from President Goodluck Jonathan who has commended the players for their fighting spirit so far and urged them to win the trophy for him as a special re-election celebration gift kiss wink

Kick-off is set for 2pm Nigerian time and match will be on NTA & DSTV (Supersport 9). So what's your prediction? Who wins AYC 2011? Cameroun or Nigeria? Drop your comments, opinions and don't forget to vote in the poll cool. . . . .

Wishing the Flying Eagles, Nigeria and all Nigerians Goodluck grin tongue
