Crap! Front page ko, Back page ni!

This story has been posted before under a different title and in my opinion, there are other threads in this section more deserving of the homepage.

I know it's "Politics Season" and threads from this section must be given priority but not every political thread deserves to be on the homepage and this is definitely one of `em. The story nor even get any news value in my opinion.

In case you all have forgotten, there are other sections on this forum and the homepage needs to reflect this.

Believe it or not, lots of peeps on this forum are apolitical and wouldn't care to comment on the serious political stuff.

Sagamite, I agree with you jare. . .Most Nigerian Journalists are so unprofessional and full of crap.

Do you remember the Punch story about the 5 ''Yoruba'' Americans (Lauren Halloran, Caraline Harshman, Kelvin Barry, Kelly Moses and O’Neil Keegan) who were studying Yoruba @ the University of Ibadan? I think eku bear posted a thread on them on Nairaland not too long ago. .

https://www.punchng.com/images/April/Tuesday/pix201104051154582.jpg

Three of them (Lauren Halloran, Caraline Harshman & Kevin Barry) have been actively blogging about their experiences studying & living in Nigeria and I've been following them (particularly Caraline) ON & OFF. . . . .

Twice, Caraline ''Titilayo'' Harshmann has criticised Nigerian Journalists for their news reporting. . . Read below

Journalism of no verification
October 4, 2010 by Cara Titilayo Harshman
http://northoflagos./page/9/

The Nigerian Tribune printed an article with the headline “Four Americans Here to Learn Yoruba Language” in the Saturday, October 2 edition of the paper. The article, by Sunday Saanu features a page-width picture of us, confusing information about our program and Yoruba language pedagogy in the U.S., and finally completely botched quotes from Kevin and I. You must understand that journalism in Nigeria does not have the same standards as journalism in the U.S. I am not trying to condemn Nigerian newspapers, but they do not adhere to credible methods of verification, which is so critical to journalism in the U.S. Direct quotes are not common, and if they do appear in an article, it’s not until the end. Such is the case with this article printed about us. Here is how they quoted me:

‘According to Cara who is now Titilayo, “I love Nigeria, I am really enjoying every minute, in fact, I can even get married here if I see an interested man because I am an open-minded person.”‘

I did not say this. Yes, I did use the words ‘open-minded person’, ‘enjoying Nigeria’, but not in any way that resembles “sentence”. I am not happy. I have received hoards of Facebook friend requests, messages and inquires from men about the possibility of me marrying them. Men are ruthless here. I think my professors here at the Yoruba Language Flagship Center are demanding a correction be printed.

A small saving grace: they printed my name “Cara Hashman.” Hopefully this glaring mistake will throw people off when they try to find me on the Internet.
The Punch Newspaper: Surprise as undergraduate Americans teach Nigerians Yoruba
by Cara Titilayo Harshman
http://northoflagos./

We made front page headlines again…I was standing with my classmates in the Faculty of Arts at UI this morning when one of my classmates told me, “Titi, mo ri oju e ni oju iwe kinni Punch loni. Titi, I saw you on the front page of Punch today.” I said “Enhh? Opuro ni e. You’re a liar.” He said he was serious, so I went to the Student Union Building to investigate. I approached the newspaper table where men (women are never there) congregate everyday to look at the headlines and gossip about news. I pushed my way to the front. Sure enough, there was my face on the bottom of the paper, under election headlines. I paid 150 Naira for the paper and after about five people nearby grabbed the paper from my hands and exclaimed that it was in fact me on the cover, was on my merry way.

The article is about the program we did at Vivian Fowler Memorial College for Girls a few weeks ago. It is well written for the most part but, like the other articles printed about us, there are serious misquotes. At least they captured the overall idea of what I wanted to say. I guess the exact words are too much to ask for.
Seriously, Nigerian Journalists need to up their game.

honeric01: Well K.pillars bye bye.

Lets call a spade a spade, magomago dey that Enyimba match, 7 minutes added time, Enyimba given a penalty at the last minute of the 7th minute? uhmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, make una remember oo, karma is a naughty woman!!!
There was a lot of time wasting, falling and feigning of injuries by players of US Bitam particularly their goalkeeper so the 7 minutes injury time added by the Referee was justified. . .as if it's the first time such will happen in football AND besides who tell you sey na penalty we take score our winning goal? undecided huh

Hope you won't be making these kinda lame and silly excuses on the 17th grin

ENYIMBA LEAVE IT LATE TO DOWN BITAM
by Sammy Wejinya 04 April 2011, 10:46

A fantastic header, seven minutes into added time gave Enyimba a 2-1 victory over Union Sportive du Bitam in the Caf Champions League clash at the Enyimba Stadium on Sunday.

The win completed 2-1 aggregate victory for the Nigerian club.

It was a physically and mentally draining game for players and officials of both clubs as Enyimba dominated the opening exchanges.

Josiah Maduabuchi, Nonso ‘Lala’ Elias and Victor Barnabas all came close but it was defender, Valentine Nwabili who came closest to opening the scoring with a sumptuous free kick from twenty five yards in the 27th minute.

The effort was headed for the top right hand corner but Biteski, in goal for Bitam produced exceptional reflexes to deny the former Esperance left back from registering his name on the score sheet.

Biteski continued to have a great afternoon, producing a string of fine saves to deny the Enyimba players who seemed intent on putting the tie to bed before the break.

The Aba Elephants were hit with a body blow on the half hour as a rare Bitam foray upfront culminated in a freak goal.

Behzah’s effort, fortuitously delivered, was the completely against the run of play and it stunned the home side into more desperate forays into the Bitam half.

The half ended 1-0 in favour of the visitors and despite minor incidents involving the Bitam substitutes and pockets of Enyimba fans, the second half got underway with the home side intensifying their efforts to level the scores.

They got their reward on 53 minutes as Barnabas sent Biteski the wrong way from the spot after Phillip Auta was tripped by Salif Keita.

Enyimba still needed one more goal to advance but Bitam were having none of it as the Gabonese players defended manfully, knowing the prize was within touching distance.

They seemed to have done enough as scores still stood 1-1 until deep into stoppage time when Enyimba won a corner.

It was to be the last kick of the game but the Elephants saved the best for last as David Tyavkase’s corner was met by a powerful Josiah Maduabuchi header to send the packed stadium into raptures.

“It was a very tough match,” Chairman of Enyimba, Felix Anyansi Agwu told SuperSport.com.

‘We never underrated our opponents but these things happen. “We are grateful we went through and we just hope we go far in the competition,” he said.

The Aba side thus proceeds into the third round where they will me the winners of the JCA Treichville (Ivory Coast) v Al Ittihad tie.

@ poster, me thinks "kpukpuru" is also fufu
though it migth be prepared differently
but, i served @ irele in ondo state and have eaten it.
there is actually no diff b/w kpupuru and fufu. smiley
If you served in Irele (which is the heartland of the Ikales in in Ondo State), you probably must have eaten kpukpuru.

However, I DISAGREE with you that Kpukpuru and Fufu are the same thing. They're both cassava products and look alike but they're different.

I lived with an Ikale family for about 6 months and we used to eat both. They're even sold separately in the market and served by bukkas & restaurants separately so they can't be the same

Eedris actually rapped back then. . .he just use the ''migidy figiddy'' stuff to spice up the songs where he was bereft of words/lyrics IMO.

Although the guy sang too, some of his songs e.g ''wackawickee mc's'', ''player meji'' etc were pure rap, had meaningful lyrics & didn't have any ''miggidy figgidy'' in them and actually conveyed a message

Eedris is definitely a rap veteran and close to a legend
