Why I dropped Osaze - Samson Siasia
https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-671349.0.html

bboiabb: Unrepentant West Bromwich Albion striker Peter Osaze Odemwingie has been dropped by Nigeria coach Samson Siasia for disciplinary reasons from next month's two matches against Argentina and Ethiopia.

Siasia punished Odemwingie for walking out on the team before a friendly against Kenya in March, and the striker, who has netted 15 goals in the English Premier League, has yet to apologise for his misconduct.

"The other players in the team had threatened to stage a mass protest and back out of other matches if I failed to sanction Osaze for leaving the camp in Abuja without permission," said Siasia. "I had no option but to do this to instil discipline in the team."

Siasia added: "I didn't want a situation where I or Nigeria would be totally disgraced by the players. Let discipline be maintained. Osaze is not bigger than the team or the whole Nigeria." The coach is known as a stiff disciplinarian, dropping Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel from the 2008 Olympics Games, where they reached the final.

He recalled Dynamo Kiev midfielder Yusuf Ayila, who last featured at the 2010 FIFA World Cup™, for the friendly against Argentina on 1 June in Abuja and a CAF Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Ethiopia four days later in Addis Ababa.

The Nigeria squad:
Goalkeepers: Vincent Enyeama (Hapoel Tel Aviv/ISR), Dele Aiyenugba (Bnei-Yehuda/ISR), Austin Ejide (Hapoel Petah Tikva/ISR)

Defenders: Joseph Yobo (Fenerbache/TUR), Taye Taiwo (Marseille/FRA), Dele Adeleye (Metalurh Donetsk/UKR), Chibuzor Okonkwo (Heartland), Efe Ambrose (Ashdod/ISR), Yusuf Mohammed (Al Hilal/SUD)

Midfielders: John Obi Mikel (Chelsea/ENG), Joel Obi (Inter Milan/ITA), Fengor Ogude (Valerenga/NOR), Nosa Igiebor (Lillestrom/NOR), Nnamdi Oduamadi (AC Milan/ITA), Promise Isaac (Manisaspor/TUR), Kalu Uche (Almeria/SPA), Yusuf Ayila (Dynamo Kiev/UKR)

Forwards: Obinna Nsofor (West Ham/ENG), Ikechukwu Uche (Real Zaragoza/SPA), Ekigho Ehiosun (Warri Wolves), Ahmed Musa (VVV Venlo/NED), Victor Anichebe (Everton/ENG), Peter Utaka (OB Odense/DEN), Emmanuel Emenike (Karabukspor/TUR)

I am dissapointed in Samson Siasia and this list.

1. What the phuck is that dead log of wood Isaac promise doing in the team? That guy is so heavy, can't play shyte and ought to be a professional pallbearer.

2. Why has he left out 14 goals Brown Ideye of Sochaux, France and Anthony Ujah of Lillestrom, Norway (Nigeria's most in-form striker/player in Scandinavia)?

3. Why invite only one natural left back in Taiye Taiwo? He should have called up Uwa Echiejile or Nurudeen Orelesi of the U-23 Olympic team as cover.

4. What's Yusuf Ayila doing back in the team? He's old, lost pace and doesn't have what it takes to cope with the rigours of midfield. We should be moving forward & trying to inject younger, fitter & workaholic players. Younger and fitter defensive midfielders like Obiora Nwankwo & Ramon Azeez should have being invited instead.

As for Osaze, Siasia was right in excluding him.

SiaONE is beginning to look and sound like same of the same.

Ghana don believe sey Super Eagles be their whipping dog cos they thumped us 4-1 in our last friendly and beat us in AFCON 2008 & 2010. cry
They must still be high on the euphoria of their World cup performance, their no 1 ranking in Africa and their recent 1-1 draw with England.

Got no problem with the match being played in England. In fact, it makes sense cos majority of the players that would prosecute the game are Europe based and both countries have large no of their nationals in England/UK.

I only hope the Super Eagles wouldn't lose cos nothing hurts me more than losing to Ghana undecided

You are so quick to insult. Amodu is a good coach anyday. The present coach of the super falcon is not one, mark my word.
Stop talking rubbish and I just might spare you.

You made the determination that Uche Eucharia is not a good coach how? Cos the Falcons lost 2-3 on aggregate to Ghana? As if the so called "good coaches" have never lost important matches at one time or another. You want me to give examples?

And pray tell, what is your way forward? For the present coach to be sacked a month to the world cup and an "Oyinbo" brought in to perform magic just like Lagerback did with the Super Eagles abi?. . .Shioor!

FYI, some other African teams have closed the gap on Nigeria in terms of female football. In particular, Ghana, Equatorial Guinea, Cameroun and South Africa are (almost) at par with the Falcons and will be difficult for the falcons to beat whenever they meet.

This Falcons loss to Ghana pain me pass Super Eagles loss to Togo in the WAFU Cup Final sef. sad

What makes it particularly hurtful is that Ghana did it with their U-20 side consisting of only local players to beat the Super Falcons (Our Senior National team) which was made up of all the foreign based players and so-called stars. . .and to think this same Ghanaian team was dumped out of the London 2012 Olympic qualifiers by Ethiopia just a month or so ago undecided Well, shyte happens embarassed

I'll wait till the Super Falcons play Equatorial Guinea in their final London 2012 Olympics qualifying match before passing judgment on Uche Eucharia's competence. . .after all, SiaOne's Olympic U-23 team was eliminated by Ghana in the All Africa Games 2008 Qualifier in 2007 and this same team beat Ghana in their final qualifying match for the Beijing 2008 Olympics and went on to win silver @ the Olympics.

Even if we fail to get pass Equatorial Guinea, I'd still want Uche Eucharia to lead the team to the World cup cos the time is too short to bring a new person. Besides only a miracle would see us qualify from a group consisting of Germany (rated no-2, Host & defending champions), Canada (CONCACAF Champions) & France (top 10 rating. . .and my pick as getting the 2nd spot in the group) even with a Jose Mourinho as coach grin

Make dem allow the woman carry the team go world cup then after dem fit sack her depending on the team's performance. . .

Our goalie na real "agbonibasket". All the goals we conceded could have been saved by a better goalkeeper. We'd have even fared better without a goalkeeper in post than that yeye Sunday Rotimi grin

Also, that Abdulwasiu Sowemimo (no 6) guy na pathetic excuse for a defender. We're in trouble if that's one of the best central defenders we have in the league.

Gege Soriola (no 5) who had been solid and put out stellar performances through out this competition had his own insane "Sanni Keita" moment. He got a silly red card as the offense he commited to get it was so unnecessary. Anyway, he still a good player and I hope he gets invited to the main Super Eagles team.

I wonder why the whole defence line depended so much on the off-side trap to defend through out this match & competition? Setting offside traps always is a lazy way to defend as it may be sprung anytime by clever forwards or the referee may not blow for a legit offside. This happened a couple of times and if Togo's strikers had being more clinical in front of goal, we'd have lost by a wider margin.

For me, the only positives in this team were Ekhigo Ehiosun [no 8], Gege Soriola (no 5), Osas Okoro (no 9), Uzonye (no 7) & the injured captain Chibuzor Okonkwo. White Agwuocha & Stanley Okoronkwo who played mostly as substitutes also showed potential. All the other players are shyte and should never wear our jersey again.

By the way, is it not ironic that this home-based lads are older than the main Super Eagles players they're supposed to replace? Ibenegbu, Rotimi, Sowemimo, Jaiyeola etc all look v.old facially and it shows in their game.

Finally, Samson Siasia needs to go to Mountain of Fire & Miracles (MFM) to do deliverance and cast out the spirit of "second place" grin. . .WYC 2005, Beijing 2008 & now WAFU Cup 2011. Make hin nor go carry us win Silver for Gabon/Equatorial Guinea AFCON 2012 o tongue

Match: Nigeria vs Togo
Competition: West Africa Football Union (WAFU) Cup Final
Venue: Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abeokuta, Ogun State
Time of Match: 4pm Nigerian Time
PREVIEW
The home-based Super Eagles of Nigeria will be taking on the Sparrow Hawks of Togo in the final of this year's regional tournament, WAFU Cup on Saturday May 14th @ the Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abeokuta, Ogun State.

To get to this stage, the Super Eagles defeated Liberia 1-0 and Niger 4-0 in the group stage and pipped Ghana 2-1 in a Semi-final game that went into extra time.

Togo on the other hand lost to Ghana 1-2 but won the second game between both countries by the same margin in a group that had only two teams. Both teams had to go into penalty shoot out to determine who would play Nigeria & Liberia in the Semi-Finals and the Togolese came out on top 4-3. In the Semi-Final, Togo dispatched Liberia 4-2 in Extra time to set up this meet with Nigeria.

Gaffer of the Nigerian side, Samson Siasia has said it'd be a difficult game but he's certain his team will emerge victorious while the Togolese on the other hand have promised to shock the Super Eagles.

Kick-off time is set for 16:00 hours (4pm) Nigerian time and it'd be on DSTV (Supersport 9).

So what do you think? Will Siasia maintain his 100% record? and what's your prediction for the game? Vote in the poll, drop your comment and lets know what you think. . . . .

Why must he be Didier Drogba and not just Ekhigo Ehiosun lol? grin grin

I'm even more enamoured with him than you are.

He's workaholic, tireless and full of running, got good vision, goal sense, speed, dribbles well, a "forward always" player who faces defenders and takes them head-on, packs good shots in both legs and although not a tall player, a good nodder of the ball cos what lacks in height he makes up with a powerful leap. . .I was pleasantly surprised & pleased when he was beating the taller Ghanaian defenders in the 50-50 aerial battles. . .

I was very impressed by his game against Liberia & Niger and I was blown away by his performance yesterday against Ghana.

Ehiosun na baller. . .hope Warri Wolves won't sell him for peanuts and he goes to a good club in Europe.

His performance and that of Gege Soriola (no 6) in defence yesterday has vindicated those of us who have always believed in the domestic league and home-based players and called for their inclusion in the Super Eagles.

Iyineda: nfortunately, it will not be only Messi and Tevez that will be missing. Check out this BBC article: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/13365512.stm

Extract:
The Super Eagles will use the match as a warm-up for their Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Ethiopia on the weekend of 4-5 June.

Argentina, who won the World Cup in 1978 and 1986, take on Nigeria before facing Poland in Warsaw four days later.

Argentina squad:

Goalkeepers: Oscar Ustari (Getafe), Agustin Marchesin (Lanús).

Defenders: Mateo Musacchio (Villarreal), Nicolas Otamendi (Porto), Ezequiel Garay (Real Madrid), Pablo Zabaleta (Manchester City), Marcos Angeleri (Sunderland), Federico Fazio (Sevilla), Emiliano Insúa (Fenerbahce).

Midfielders: Tino Costa (Valencia), Nicolas Bertolo (Zaragoza), Mario Bolatti (Internacional), Fernando Belluschi (Porto), Alejandro Cabral (Legia Warsaw), Diego Perotti (Sevilla), Mauro Formica (Blackburn).

Forwards: Pablo Piatti (Almería), Marco Ruben (Villarreal), Jonathan Cristaldo (Metallist), Nicolas Gaitán (Benfica), Mauro Boselli (Genoa), Franco Jara (Benfica).
But the Argentine FA has since debunked this list. According to them, the team list will only be announced 10 days to the match.

http://www.leadershipeditors.com/ns/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=30540:argentina-vs-nigeria-argentina-deny-messis-absence&catid=19:sports-news&Itemid=146
The Argentine Football Association (AFA) have distanced itself from rumours that world’s best and Barcelona talisman, Lionel Messi will not be available for the June 1 highly rated international friendly against the Super Eagles of Nigeria.

The FA denied releasing any team list for the June 1 international clash which had Lionel Messi, Carlos Tevez, Di Maria, Gonzalo Higuain and Diego Milito excluded. Reacting to the purported team list, AFA representative, Hernan Tofoni said that his association is yet to make public the list of players for the match.

Hernan said that AFA accepted invitation to be part of the Guinness the Match based on the respect they have for Nigeria and the match is important to their build-up for the COPA America Cup. “Nigeria and Argentina are two great football nations with great people who have great passion for the games. We can’t afford to be complacent because we have beaten Nigeria three times in the past. The Eagles are a great team and they are playing at home. Argentina is number five in the world right now so we have to play with our best players. They will be supported by the massive crowd and we don’t want to let our fans down. This is an opportunity for us to continue our dominance over Nigeria.”

Organisers of the epic match have also reacted saying that both team lists would be made public 10 days to the match.

Meanwhile, Super Eagles Head Coach, Samson Siasia has said he would not be deceived by the fake Argentina team list that purportedly omitted the World Player of the Year, Lionel Messi and Carlos Tevez. He stressed that both countries can’t afford not to play their best players. “Messi and Tevez are not the most important players in Argentina so we are not complacent about their rumored absence. Argentina will never raise a substandard team against Nigeria because they too want to maintain their record of the unbeaten runs. We are focused and will give the match all it takes. Argentina is one of the world’s most successful football nations. Any team they field will be of world class quality because the depth of talent available to them is second to none. Whether they are the more well known international players or the phenomenal rising stars coming through, Argentina are amongst the best in the world.”

To be fair, the officiating wasn't the best.

In the run up to the penalty that led to Ghana's goal, a Ghanaian player was clear on goal and was fouled by Nigerian defender, Gege Soriola (who was on a yellow card) in the box, the ref gave the penalty to Ghana but didn't give Gege Soriola the [2nd] yellow card he deserved. Instead, he gave our goalie Sunday Rotimi who had nothing to do with the offense a yellow card. I mean, how could he give a penalty for a deliberate offense in the 18 and not book the defender that caused it?

Also, we got a questionable penalty (it looked like a dive by Ekhigo Ehiosun) late in the 2nd half but to be fair to the referee he wouldn't have given it if not for the linesman that raised his flag to indicate a foul. . .like se God know se the penalty wasn't deserved, we missed the penalty lol.

Finally, me thinks Victor Ezeji fouled the Ghanain defender in the run up to our 2nd goal and a freekick should have been given to Ghana. . .it's akin to how Germany scored the 3rd & winning goal against us in the Egypt 2009 U-20 World cup when Lukmam Haruna was brought down and the ref didn't give us a freekick.Well, what do I know. . .the ref knows best grin

I couldn't be bothered if Argentina fields only home-based players from River Plate, Independiente, Boca Juniors & other Argentine clubsides or relatively unknown/2nd string Europe based players cos Argentina na Argentina.

They've got a football culture and any eleven players fielded against us would be quality opposition and give us a run for our money. There's even a high probability a 2nd string Argentine side would beat the best team we could field.

I'm more concerned with the Super Eagles utilizing the FIFA friendly days and playing friendlies (along with the rest of the world) as we've been doing since SiaOne took the reigns cos we're rebuilding and it'd help in the blending of players + improve the team cohesion.

I watched the full 120minutes of the match and I gats say it was a very fiesty and tense encounter.

Ekhigo Ehiosun of Warri Wolves (for now cos that guy is going places) stole the show with his superb 2 goals and excellent all round MOTM performance. . .I have not been this impressed by a home-based player in a long while.

No 6 jerseyed Gege Soriola of Heartland was also solid in defence. He was v.confident and poised through out and was unbeatable in defence. I suspect he's just played his way into the main Super Eagles team. Dude in no 7 jersey for Nigeria [Ezuronye] was also v.good but he looks kinda old to me.

All in all, it was a good performance and I'm happy for Siasia and the boys. Next up is Togo in the final. Lets go there. . . . .
