The match will be played in this beautiful stadium. . . the Leverkusen Bay Arena, home ground of Bayer Leverkusen in the German League. Its also one of the 9 stadia designated to host the world cup so this friendly will be a good opportunity for the Falcons to feel the tuff  tongue

''The future of football is feminine" says FIFA President Sepp Blatter and I dare say it's true for Nigeria at least. . .a trip to the National stadium on a Saturday will convince you grin tongue

Six African Women Championship trophies. . .many more to come I believe, ranked numero uno in Africa, #27 in the World, participated in all FIFA Women World Cups. . . .with a Quarter Final Appearance in '99, even had a player. . .Cynthia Uwak making a FIFA Ballon d'Or top 10 shortlist. . . Damn! The ladies beat our men in every area and as such we can't ignore them anymore, hence this thread.

Alright, lets fast-forward to the present. . .The Super Falcons are set to play their German counterparts in an International friendly match at the 30,200 capacity Bay Arena Stadium in Leverkusen, Germany on Thursday 25th November in preparation for the Women World Cup billed to hold in Germany from June 26th - July 17th 2011.

The Super Falcons of Nigeria who were just crowned African Champions at the African Women Championship in South Africa are ranked 1st in Africa and 27th in the world while the German Female National team, also called Die Nationalelf (The First Eleven) , are the reigning European and World champions and are ranked 1st in Europe and #2 in the world. Both teams apart from being continental champions are managed by former female footballers turned coaches. The Nigeria team is managed by Uche Eucharia while the Die Nationalelf is being coached by SiLvia Neid.

The Germans will be missing the services of Kim Kullig and Célia Okoyino da Mbabi due to injury but can look up to Birgit Prinz (3 times FIFA player of the Year), Alexandria Popp (MVP and Golden boot winner of U-20 World Cup), Anja Mittag and co for victory while the Nigerians will be hoping Perpetua Nkwocha, Stella Mbachu, Desire Oparanozie, Rita Chikwelu, Helen Ukaonu et al will continue from where they left off at the AWC.

Sivia Neid, the Coach of the German team was quoted to have said at the last U-20 Championship that ''The Nigerians have impressed me tremendously. I've watch them for quite some time and appreciate the development of the Nigerian women's soccer a lot. . .their appearance at the finals was no surprise at all as they have athletic and technically skilled players.".  On this game, she has also said the Falcons will be a good test for her team and she's looking to her team playing well and winning.

Uche Eucharia, coach of the Falcons on the other hand has said “Personally, I am happy because this game will help us to know our players better and it will also help us to begin early preparation for the World Cup holding next year''. She has however informed that the friendly tie is not going to be a do or die affair for her girls but a match for them to learn how to prepare against more formidable oppositions during the 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Match is slated to kick off at 18.00 hrs (6pm) in Leverkusen, Germany and 18.00 hrs (6pm) in Nigeria also.

So who wins this match? Lets know what you think. . . . .

Hopefully, we'd get to see the match on TV but if we don't, we'll just turn this thread into an avenue to curse the Government, Sports Ministry or is it National Sports Commission now?, the NFF, NTA, AIT and rant about how the women are always being discriminated against and how they always play second fiddle to the men tongue grin

Hell, if AIT was willing to show a Grade-B friendly match between Nigeria and Iran for the men, then I see no reason why they shouldn't show a Grade-A friendly match between Nigeria and Germany for the Women.

I never doubted her gender but she only spoke for herself and I believe her cos she plays in the German League with other females and her gender was also a source of controversy there until she was gender tested and the matter was settled. The first pics is of her with team mate and Germany U-20 player Sylvia Arnold.

But no where in this piece did she come out to say categorically that Salimata Simpore and Bilguisa Simpore are women cos she knows they're not. Hell, they're not even Equatorial Guineans but Ivorians.  Salimata Simpore was even said to have played for Cote d'voire in the AWC qualifiers.

CAF had better gender test Salimata Simpore and Bilguisa Simpore cos I doubt they're qualified to play at the Women World Cup going by FIFA's definition of a woman as "someone who menstruates".

Those two (Salimata and Bilguisa) are a disaster waiting to happen. Make dem nor go disgrace Africa for World Cup o undecided

Equatorial Guinea reject gender cheating claims

Equatorial Guinea striker Genoveva Anonma has rejected claims that they fielded male players in this month's African Women's Championship in South Africa.

The Germany-based player was part of the team that helped their country to reach two successive finals of the continental tournament.

The 21-year-old is among three players in the squad accused of being men but insists she is female.

"I first heard these accusations back in 2006 and 2008," said Anonma, who plays for USV Jena in the women's Bundesliga.

"I have already been (gender) tested, which I find offensive.

"These accusations come because I am fast and strong, but I know that I am definitely a woman!"

Anonma's club president at Jena, Marcus Etzel, backed the player.

"It's completely absurd. Of course Genoveva is a woman and we are very happy she plays for us," Etzel said.

Anonma was responding to accusations that her team fielded male players in last week's all-Africa final, when Nigeria beat defending champions Equatorial Guinea 4-2.

Nigeria and Equatorial Guinea have both qualified for the women's World Cup next year in Germany, from June 26 to July 17, but the Nigerians have accused their opponents of fielding "at least two men".

Three players are under suspicion are sisters Salimata Simpore, 23, who scored in the final, and Biliguisa Simpore, 25, as well as Anonma.

Nigeria, Ghana and South African have all complained about the issue.

"Just as they did in 2008, Equatorial Guinea played with at least two men," said Nigeria coach Eucharia Uche.

"The African union (CAF) must act immediately. If everything blows up next year in Germany, this could be terribly embarrassing for Africa."

Hmmm. . .I wasn't sure whether to post this here or in the Sports section. Anyway, hate him or love him, the guy sure knows how to reward success tongue

Read below:

SOURCE

TB Joshua showers N30m on Commonwealth games medalists

Prophet Temitope Balogun Joshua of the Synagogue Church of All Nations yesterday gave out about N30 million cash and materials to nine Nigerian medalists at the 19th Commonwealth games. It is believed that the performance of the participants at this year’s Commonwealth Games held in New Delhi, India was the best by Nigeria since the commencement of the game.

Joshua invited the medalists to the Sunday service in Ikotun Egbe, Lagos and personally presented them with the gifts. There were three physically challenged Gold medalists. Each of them collected N1 million cash and a Toyota Camry valued at N2 million. In addition, each of the three Gold medalists also got a wheelchair.

The three silver winners were given N500,000 and a wheel chair while the three Silver winners also went away with N500,000 and a wheelchair each. Many other participants that were present at the ceremony were said to have received consolation prices.
One of the medalists, Mr. Yakubu Adesokan who won Gold in weightlifting told Daily Sun that Prophet Joshua got in touch with the participants at the Games through Easther Oyema, another Gold medalist who attended his church and fixed yesterday’s service for a meeting with them.

According to him, many of the athletes attended his church for spiritual blessing before the games. He also revealed that Joshua has been of great help to the handicaps before the games and expressed his gratitude for the care Joshua has shown to the less privileged in the society.

He said: “The Federal Government has also contacted us and they are expected to also reward us for our performance at the games. As far as many of us are concerned, we are already preparing for the All African Games coming up next year and the Olympic games expected to come up in 2012.” Another athlete who also won Silver at the games, Mr. Anthony Ulonnam from Anambra State told Daily Sun that the Federal Government arranged to welcome the athletes back home and camped them in Lagos before they gave N30, 000 to those from far places as flight ticket to their states and N10,000 to athletes not far from Lagos. It is his wish that the nation should make make the athletes happy as Joshua had done because they have made their country proud.

Another athlete, Mr.Ikechukwu Obichukwu who won Bronze said the members of the Super Eagles that participated in the World Cup got 30,000 dollars while the athletes that went to India for the Commonwealth Games got 2,000 dollars as their allowance. He said: “For the record, we are looking forward to the Federal Government to do something tangible for us.”

Sources at the Synagogue Church said Prophet Joshua is thinking of setting up an NGO to ensure that all Africans that win medals at the Olympic in future are rewarded. The source said: “The man of God has decided that there should be an NGO to ensure that all Africans and not just Nigerians that win medals at the Commonwealth Games are rewarded in future.

The organization would be formally registered. As for the Gold medalist, the man of God told them to decide on any country of their choice where they would want to spend two weeks holiday. It is going to be the policy of the church to work closely with the NGO to ensure that athletes are encouraged. “You will remember that the man of God always celebrate his birthdays with the less privilege in the society and many of the present medalists were part of the celebration in the past.”

The match was played at the Sharks stadium which is their own stadium and home ground. Even from the picture above (with the proximity of the residential buildings), one can deduce it's not the Liberation Stadium.

Actually there was. . . Sweden 1995 which was won by Norway. Germany, USA and China finished 2nd, 3rd and 4th respectively.

Nigeria was also at that competition and we got an 8-0 drubbing from Norway in our first match, played a 3-3 draw with Canada in the second and lost narrowly 2-3 to England in our last match.

We haven't missed a FIFA Women Competition at any level (Senior, U-20 and U-17).

Former Nigeria international Finidi George has been officially presented as the new director of international football at his Spanish former club, Real Betis.

Finidi at Presentation©realbetisbalompie.es

This is a major achievement for an African football star coming on the heels of Zinedine Zidane’s recent appointment at Real Madrid.

Finidi will work closely with first team coach Peter Mel in his new role

An elated Findi told SuperSport.com that he was pleasantly suprised when he got the call to join the staff of Real betis after leaving them ten years ago.

"It is very good," he said.

"I am very impressed. They made me an offer that I wasn't expecting.

Real Betis was home to me for four years and I am quite familiar with the people there."

“I am going to focus on football outside Spain like Africa, Europe and other places where there are good players who can come to Betis.

It is an opportunity that the club has given me and willing to work to bring good players. I know the coach very well and I actually played with the assistant coach Roberto Rios and the trainer Jesus. They have big plans for the future and believe I can add value with my profile and my global access," the former Super Eagles star told SuperSport.com on his way to the club's training on Thursday morning.

Finidi joined Real Betis in 1996 from Ajax in a deal worth $7.6 million scoring 38 goals in appearances before moving on to Real Mallorca, Ipswich in the English Premier League before ending his career at Real Mallorca.

He has been living in Spain and is very fluent in Spanish and Dutch

He began his career as a central midfielder with home team Sharks in Port Harcourt, joining his older brother Alari George and attracted the attention of national selectors.

He would spent two seasons with Calabar Rovers returning to Sharks in 1993. His younger brother Igeniwari also began with Sharks and after impressing as a junior Nigeria international was killed in bizare circumstances following an FA Cup game.

In Port Harcourt where he grew up and began his career, most revere him for his creativity in midfield but it was as a winger that he gained global recognition for the accuracy of his crossing even rated ahead of David Beckham and Luis Figo at his prime.

Dutchman Clemens Westerhof recognized this and Finidi 's crosses brought out the best in Rashidi Yekini making him Nigeria's all time top scorer.

His coach at Ajax, Luis Van Gaal had to convert Mark Overmars to the left wing and Finidi responded with memorable many assists that cemented his place as an Ajax legend.

He made a goal scoring international debut for Nigeria against Burkina Faso in a thrilling 7-1 defeat in which he set up 3 goals, scoring the last after coming on for Austin Eguavoen at half time. He also scored twice in the World Cup qualifiers inclding the key goal against Algeria in 1993 that secured Nigeria's first ever qualification for the USA 94 Fifa World Cup .

He transfered to Ajax from Sharks in time for the 1993/94 season at a fee of just $100 000. He literally walk into the first team and as winger provided the ammunition for Jari Litmanaen, Patrick Kluivert, Frank Rijkaard, Frank and Roland De Boer and compatriot Nwankwo Kanu as Ajax won three consecutive Dutch titles, the Uefa Champions League in 1995 and losing on penalties to Juventus in 1996 before his big transfer to Real Betis.

Finidi featured for Nigeria at the Senegal 92 (bronze), Tunisia 94 (gold and Cup,) Nigeria/Ghana 2000 (silver) and Mali 2002 (bronze).

He also represented Nigeria at the USA 1994 and France 98 World Cup and was vice-captain to Sunday Oliseh when the team qualified for the 2002 World Cup but both of them were controversially ommitted from the final squad.

His goal against Greece is best remebered for his "dog" celebration and is often replayed

But expect fireworks from the stands to pitch with the likes of Victor Ezeji, Bright Ejike, Sunday Rotimi, Owusu Addae and co all primed for this one.
