Nairaland To Cover The FIFA Women's World Cup (Germany 2011) Draws https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/7/73/WWC2011logo.png Germany 2011 FIFA Women World Cup Official Logo Never have we been so conscious of the women's game on Nairaland. . .coming on the heels of the Falcons AWC triumph, their reception & parading on an "unbefitting" vehicle with all the controversy, arguement & debate that it generated and the 8-nil drubbing the team got from Germany just two days ago with the subsequent furore that followed that loss so I thought I'll start this thread so we can countdown, preview/pre-analyse and cover LIVE the 2011 FIFA Women World cup (Germany 2011) draws which will be taking place on Monday, the 29th of November at the Frankfurt Congress Center, Germany with special emphasis on the Super Falcons and the group pairing we'd want. But 1st let me give a little preview. . . . As I type, 15 out of the 16 countries that are to participate at the world cup have booked their places. Nigeria and Equatorial Guinea will be flying Africa's flag, South America will be represented by Brazil and Colombia, Asia will be represented by the trio of Australia, Korea DPR and Japan, Oceania will be represented solely by New Zealand while the UEFA qualifiers are France, England, the scandinavian duo of Norway & Sweden, and of course, the host country - Germany. CONCACAF (North, Central America and Carribean countries) will be represented by Canada, Mexico and ______________? (explained below) The 16th team will be decided in a two leg play-off between USA and Italy, with the Americans holding an advantage having defeated the Italians 1-nil in the 1st leg played in Italy on November 20 and the deciding 2nd leg to be played today. . .so lets say the 16th team is the USA shall we? ![]() So in a nutshell, the qualified/participating countries are EUROPE 1. Germany 2. France 3. Sweden 4. Norway 5. England ASIA 6. Australia - Winners of the AFC Women Asian Championship/Qualification tournament 7. Korea DPR - 2nd place team in the AFC Women Asian Championship/Qualification tournament 8. Japan - Finished 3rd in the AFC Women Asian Championship/Qualification tournament AFRICA 9. Nigeria - Winners of CAF African Women Chamionship/Qualification tournament 10.Equitorial Guinea - 2nd place team in the CAF African Women Championship/Qualification tournament SOUTH AMERICA 11.Brazil - winners of the South America Women Chamionship/Qualification tournament 12.Colombia - Finished 2nd in the South America Women Championship/Qualifiaction tournament OCEANIA 13.New Zealand - Winners of the Oceania qualifiers NORTH/CENTRAL AMERICA/CARRIBEAN 14.Canada - winners of the CONCACAF Women's Gold Cup/Qualification tournament 15.Mexico - Runners up in the CONCACAF Women's Gold Cup/Qualification tournament and to be joined most likely by the USA. THE DRAWS As you all know, the 16 qualified countries will be placed into 4 groups. Germany (ranked #2, winners of the last two editions in 2003 & 2007 and host) will be seeded in Group A and will be tagged Group A1, so three other countries will be placed in that group as A2, A3 and A4 USA (if they eventually qualify) will also be seeded to head one of the groups by virtue of being rated #1 in the world and being past winners in '91 and '99. Norway presently ranked #7 and being champions in 1995 is also likely to be seeded to head one of the groups. Finally, I think the fourth seeded team will be Brazil cos amongst all the other teams, they're ranked the highest (#3) and have performed best in recent times in both the FIFA World cup and the Olympics having finished 2nd in China 2007 & Beijing 2008. So hypothetically, lets say the Four groups are to be headed by Germany, USA, Norway and Brazil. Which of these groups will you want the SUPER Falcons of Nigeria to be placed in and which countries will you want to be placed alongside them to boost their chances of qualifying to the Quarter-Finals. I'll be posting my own opinion on what I consider a perfect draw/excellent group with reasons later. I gats go now cos light nor dey and my battery don run down Meanwhile, make una drop una own comments. . . |
i hope the falcons don't face these germans or the U.S early in the WC cos germany and the U.S are the 2 top teams. 8 goals in a friendly match is embarrassing, it would have been more that 8 goals if this was a WC game. At least the falcons know were they stand. They need a friendly with the U.S.
Crap with a capital C |

I actually want him to decamp and join another party so he can contest and be beaten at the polls. That will be the last humiliation, final nail on his coffin and he'd be demystified once and for all. |
Appeal ko, repeal ni. Amos Adamu looks like a clown and acts like one. |
I'd get the album when it's available on the streetz. |
toback:Look at this one for example posting rubbish All these peeps wey dey do follow follow and nor get brain of dem own sef Shioor! |
cecegorz:Those were two different scenarios. Surely, you do realize the thread titles Falcons will lose to Germany? and Germany Beats Falcons by 8 goals (Bad Coach?) are set out to achieve different aims/purposes? The 1st thread simply asks a question and is primarily to get responses by way of opinions and predictions while the latter is intended to set a direction for the debate on why we lost. Already some people are latching on to it (bad coach) as the reason why we lost "scandalously" when it's obvious the biggest factor in this game was the harsh and unfriendly weather. |
The thread on the homepage should read Germany Beats Falcons by 8 Goals (Cold Weather?) and not "Germany Beats Falcons By 8 Goals (Bad Coach?)". Topics should be carefully phrased cos lots of peeps come here to get info and as such we mould and shape opinions of many Nigerians out there. . .a pointer to this is the fact that certain parts of the opening post of this thread were repeated verbatim on two sports programmes I listened to on Radio yesterday morning The thread title on the homepage is mischievous, uncalled for and a blatant attempt to undermine the coach & whip up public sentiments against her that may lead. . . . . . Make those wey get the power modify the thread title on the hompage. I don talk my own and I rest my case. |
well, I have no idea if the stadion was heated, but even if so, the weather is freezing cold this week in Germany. You just can't acclimatize within days in such a weather condition. I will take this as an excuse.
A rude awakening but I'd want to believe the weather played a big part in the Falcons loss. Even the Germans wouldn't in their wildest imagination have thought they'll beat the Falcons by this margin. Anyway, better now than at the world cup. I just hope this wouldn't lead to * NFF to strengthen Technical Bench of Falcons. . .despite the subsequent denials, it's on record, a high ranking NFF official made this remark. * Sam Okpodu (a former Falcons coach) bags Grade-A European Football Coaching License, the hype & subsequent interviews he gave and revealed how "he's willing to impart the knowledge & experience he has into the Falcons to achieve a good performance in Germany". In short, the guy dey take style lobby AND *Finally, the underground moves by some peeps to set up a presidential task force to oversee their preparation for the World cup. Ehen ehen, make I even ask sef. . .how many of you actually saw this match to be posting disparaging comments like "Falcons dey play like pregnant women?" |
Wetin remain? Lets pray for a miracle of Leverkusen ![]() |

luvhenry:None that I know of. |
Germany 1 Nigeria 0 Goal scored in the 11th minute http://www.livegoals.com/livescore/international/international-friendly-games,-women |
Yeap. . .had to modify the thread title to reflect the correct time. Apart from the crowd, the Falcons will be playing against the weather as it's freezing cold in Leverkusen, Germany right now. Temperature is about 3 degrees so expect the Falcons to come out kitted in hand gloves, scarves and any other item of clothing to keep warm & ward off the cold. By the way, Cynthia Uwak who missed out of the AWC 2010 joined the team in Germany and may feature in today's game. |
overboard:You're right about .wav been an uncompressed audio format and how it's clearer/better than mp3 but I only meant it in the context of this yogen software. |

Super Falcons defender, Onome Ebi is looking forward to a victory when the reigning African Women’s Championships (AWC) champions take on world champions, Germany in Bonn on Thursday.Too many quacks parading as journalists ![]() How can supersport report the match is to be played in Bonn when the German Football Association and ARD TV Station (which will televise the match in Germany) have it bodly written on their websites that the match is to be played in Leverkusen? ![]() A Nigerian TV Station even went as far as saying the match will kick off at 2PM Nigerian time (when the match is scheduled for 6PM in Leverkusen, Germany) or is the time difference between Nigeria and Germany now four hours? A simple online check would have given them the correct time of the match in Nigeria. No be na wa, na real wa!
