PoliticsRe: Why Are Naija Drivers Crazy? We Need Proper Driving Legislature And Enforcement. by Serendipity:
I'm at one with you on that. Here we don't examine people before drivers licences are issued.

Please, what we need is ''legislation'' NOT 'legislature'.

Jarus: Congrats guy. By God's grace, I also graduated with one, although CGPA not close to that.

I understand your feelings. The expectation is natural, the parental pride is natural, the stake will automatically be high. It wont even stop there, when you begin to go for interviews, you are most likely going to be drilled more and perhaps need to do more than ordinary to convince your interviewers than the 2.1 or 2.2 guy. That is what is called defence of your degree, and 90% of Firsts I know are able to scale this.

The good thing is, if well packaged, it is a great advantage for you. You are almost guaranteed of invitation for every test you apply for except there is restriction on course or age.

Just work on your confidence (and never be overconfident). That's all.

CareerRe: . by Serendipity: 6:28pm On Mar 12, 2013
Mustay: Starting rhetorically, for you to have got to this stage, I believe you are now an adult - well that's why you're one; you're responsible for making decisions that affect you and your environs.

On viewing this topic, I thought it was gonna be about the 'PHD' thingy in schools.

What you're experiencing is normal - it's more like the 'expectations' theory. My guy, the confidence it requires for a 3rd class is totally different from yours o! You got the advantage already with your grades while the former has to proves stereotypes wrong that s/he is not an 'olodo'.

You do not want to disappoint people but just be yourself, that's all. If you really got the stuff in you, the golden fish can have no place to hide. The deal is that one works towards his or her luck which is what your grade has put a premium on for you.

You trying to 'divert' to another course must be something you're really sure about. No one is trying to scare you but those who will be shocked by your decision will express the same fear - no one wants you to make a mistake you'll regret.

Don't walk in peoples' shadows - yoruba people say, "won o o ki wo ago alago sise" ie "you don't use somebody else's watch to work". That someone says you should not work as a first class is not TRUE. As much as Rome wasn't built in a day, the difference between you and those who say little of what they know is the research you make and careful analysis before taking decisions that are not bandwagon-like.

If movie production is the passion you got, take a careful study to learn in the industry. Be careful to those you take advices from and how you pay attention to every statement you're told - some are bourne out of ignorance/illusion. It's left for you to sieve the wheat from the chaff - goodluck! cool
posting that Yoruba adage here is infelicitous

chax100: Let me start by saying, congratulations on your first-class, I know what it takes to be a first-class student. People will always expect much from you. But, if I were you, I would have remain in academics. Apply to your department for the post of a graduate assistance and contribute to the your own quota to our educational sector. I wish all the best to you in your endeavours. Cheers!
Sorry, if I were you, I would remain in academia.
Academic is a noun that may refer to a lecturer and doesn't connote the world of learning which academic is. It ia also an adjective.

My four points

I would be very glad to have elucidation on this point.
Can it be established factually or is it just a matter of faith that should be termed sacrosanct?
This is because there are many people that seemingly succeed /without God.

pro01: You shouldn't have made me do this. Thanks.

Definition of ALL BUT: very nearly : almost <would be all but impossible>

» Examples of ALL BUT Without you the job would have been all but impossible. We had all but given up hope.

See: www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/all%20but
Yea, that's correct. It's just from the context that I deemed it inapt. ''All but'' means 'almost'.
Now it's absolutely and not ''almost'' impossible for you to win a lottery without having a ticket.
So that's why I substituted ''all but'' with ''but' which means 'except'; hence I wrote '' all but possible''
In other words, not having a lottey ticket can be anything EXCEPT possible. It cannot be 'all but' (almost) impossible.
Cheers!

vivian chinaza: Exactly, I still remember NNPC test a couple of years ago, they invited only 1st class and 2.1 but it was publicised in the national dailies that a huge percentage of them could not pass, it was even discussed on several talk shows.

Whether na 1.1 or pass, just make sure u can defend it even with ur eyes closed.

And yes 3rd class is better than no degree at all.
Can it then be said that third class degree holders could have passed?
EducationRe: 3rd Class Degree, Or No Degree At All: Which Is Better? by Serendipity: 10:57pm On Mar 09, 2013
pro01: Seems you have already resigned to your 'fate'; you shouldn't, since you're lucky enough to be in a position where you can still do something about it. If 2.2 is what is left to strive for, then you must make that happen at all costs, just to be on the safe side.

To be clear, there are lots of brilliant Third Class and Pass graduates out there. Some made those grades due to misfortune, some due to circumstances, others due to sheer unseriousness. It doesn't define who a person it. It's just that, in an environment (labour market) that is highly competitive, one puts himself or herself at a serious disadvantage by graduating with anything less than 2.2 in today's Nigeria where hundreds of private schools are minting thousands of 'ajebo' 2.1/2.2 graduates with connections to boot. How can one compete without the basic 2.2 as an entry level job hopeful? Not everyone would be as lucky as the 'examples' freely vaunted on this thread. It's hard enough to win a lottery; not having a ticket at all makes it all but impossible.
...but POSSIBLE (NOT impossible)
Thanks

Billyonaire: I prefer people with 3rd class to 2nd Upper. 3rd class holders think outside the box, First Class and 2 upper seem to be glued to their specific fields from experience, they are almost always dysfunctional on other fields.
Who said so?

niyoni: With d kind of ladies in dis generation, most of whom are anything but homely, can d men of today find women as good as their truly sweet n loving mothers?
This post to my mind was motivated by smugness and conceitment
It is blanket, asinine and a quintessence of codswallop.
Is it true in all cases that our mothers can be qualified with the epithet -- wifely and good? The answer should be in the negative.

Personally I'm proud of and love my mother but were I to choose a wife, it wouldn't be by her standards as there are many things about her I cannot brook.

ON A JOVIAL NOTE, THEY ONLY KNOWS ABOUT THE LATEST MARY KAY'S PRODUCTS AND CELEBRITIES GOSSIPS... AND I WONDER IS IT ONLY ME EXPERIENCING SUCHhuh

***PLEASE NOTE THAT I HAVE MET VERY BRILLANT LADIES WHO BLOWN ME OUT OF MY IMAGINATION AND I DOFFED MY HEART FOR SUCH GREAT INTELLECTS***
I think it would very conceited of you to make such an unfounded assertion.
Again what constitutes an intellectual discussion is relative and has many imponderables.

pleep: I love it how all the same gold-diggers and woman wrappers have come out to claim this story is fake... just like they say about every story that involves Nigerian womans bad behavior.

@ The men, grow the hell up. Not every woman is your mother and no one is paying you to defend random hoes on the internet... These gold diggers got what they deserved. When it happens to you yall will be the first one crying all over nairaland.

@ The ladies, if you are a decent lady this story should not bother you. Instead of always justifing the bad Nigeiran women, you should be distancing yourself from them. Women like this make you all look like hoes...

Stop defending bad ppl just because they are women.. that encourages men to paint you all with the same brush

#my2cents
I think that your are inordinately and unwarrantedly biased by saying that people that are incredulous about the story are defending women. That inference cannot be logically made, hence it's fallacious.
This story stretches credulity to the limit. It is diffuse and there are many parts of the story that are not consonat with the other.
I think it's only a green, naive and gullible fellow that will believe this story in toto.
It can at best be accepted with a pinch of salt as it is marred by many discrepancies.

RomanceRe: What Can Make You Fall In Love? by Serendipity:
I become unaccountably enamoured with and smitten by women with good hearts. Those that are kind earn my love unconditionally. And if you are observant and perspicacious enough you will notice them, as people tend to manifeat their real character unwittingly, the possibillity of pretence nothwithstanding.
For instance, I was about to board a bus that was Enugu bound. There were four physically challenged (blind) women already in the bus. Having waited for them to sort their money and pay, the conductor spoke to them in a harsh 'agboroic' manner and they felt affronted and started making little noise.
You know what a lady that apparently should be in her mid 20's or late 30's said?
''Why did you even allow these people to enter this bus?
I was startled by that statement. So this lady has no pity for these challenged persons, I asked myself. Of course the possibility that that statement must be a true relection of her character is gigantic.
