namuguibe:This muslim cleric believes that evolution is true and God is the one who is behind it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RLMkCxMvXJs |
mordsith:The pastor has denied the story, so it doesn't count. Personally I think he pretended to be mute when they caught him to avoid being beaten: http://pulse.ng/gist/wale-fagbere-pastor-denies-being-stricken-by-gods-while-destroying-shrine-id5548994.html Do you have any other reason to believe that juju is real? Have you experienced juju personally or witnessed it in action in your presence? |
Akdegreat: Lennycool: cloudgoddess:Um, I don't seem to have experienced what you folks are talking about. Becoming an atheist didn't take me to cloud 9 or anything like that. |
You said: mordsith:But your proof is: ALL RELIGIONS AND MYTHOLOGIES ON EARTH CONFIRM THISThis is like saying superheroes and supervillians exist because "all superhero movies confirm this". The common element of many lies isn't truth. |
Bamz:From the Christian perspective, heaven and hell are real, so your argument about "if heaven and hell are real blah blah" is irrelevant. |
Bamz:Not true. You will still lose everything if the God you worship happens to be the wrong God. Only one of the Gods people worship can be true. |
Chubhie:Do you envy muslims because they get to use violence to stop people from criticizing or mocking Islam? Do you wish you could kill for Jesus? |
countsparrow:All bones are potentially bad, but in my experience chicken bones are the safest, especially when raw. I avoid feeding my dog bones on an empty stomach, to avoid intestinal perforation, and I carefully limit the quantity of bones my dog gets in a day, so it's not more than what he can safely digest without the risk of constipation. |
Seen. I'm impressed by this guy. |
poppyz:I was. |
tnx for the report. could you check again? |
We pray when there’s nothing else we can do, but God wants us to pray before we do anything at allDoes anyone think the author's husband would have fared better if she decided to hold a prayer meeting before rushing him to the hospital? |
coolbreezy01:I gave up on just assuming that the religion my parents raised me to believe in is true. I decided to withhold belief until I got strong evidence. |

MissHatey:Not to my knowledge; I'm speculating like crazy here, hoping I'm right. |
Stanleyafam:Women know how to make men want to have sex with them, and if a woman continues applying those techniques to her husband I don't believe he will become immune at any point. I've heard people talking about "keeping it fresh" by trying dozens of new positions and new role playing scenarios and costumes and makeup and hair. Obviously doing the same thing every night would be boring after a while, right? |
Hmmm.... The politics section won't work? |
4everGod:Science has nothing to say about any creature being the pinnacle of evolution. However, creationists do believe that man was created in the image of God and that he is the pinnacle of God's creation. The things you mentioned above speak against creation and in favor of evolution. The way every part of the body works painlessly and smoothly does not depict a process still evolving it depicts a process that has been concluded and set to run in its finished state. We are not an evolutionary experiment. we are finished products that need no further tweaking. You shouldn't say things like this unless you're sure that there are no ladies suffering from PMS in your vicinity. You'd get your ass whooped! I often ask this question and I will ask you lennycool...you say we are still evolving right? So how is it that when a child is born with 12 fingers or 12 toes we call it a birth DEFORMITY or DEFECT and not see it as part of the evolutionary process? How is it that when a baby is born with a hole in the heart we call it a deformity and not a process of evolution? We call a mutation a deformity or defect if we feel that it is harmful to the bearer. A child with 12 toes is likely to be mocked by her peers and enjoy no advantages. A child with a hole in the heart will probably die young after a difficult life. On the other hand, if a baby is born with a beneficial mutation such as muscles that enable her to run really fast or an abnormally high IQ, nobody will call it a deformity or a defect. |
felixomor:By your logic, if the super eagles have a useless keeper who regularly scores own goals and misses easy shots, we cannot criticize the keeper's performance as an individual, nor can we expect that replacing the keeper with a great keeper from another team will help the team. This is not so. The flaws in the human body persist because evolution is imperfect. Our features are good enough for our survival, but clearly flawed. Because the eye for example is a continuation of the human brain. Your octopus doesn't have the capacity of the human brain.I don't see how having a better brain makes it necessary for us to have an inferior light gathering apparatus. And u say a human being should have 4 or more holes on his face so as to feed properly. LolNo, he's suggesting that instead of the nose and mouth being connected to the throat which is connected to the lungs and gullet, which causes a traffic jam that often leads to accidents (choking), the nose should be connected directly to the lungs while the mouth should be connected directly to the gullet. This would eliminate the risk of choking to death. However, we would have to speak through our noses, like dolphins. Speaking through our noses sounds weird, but if we had evolved that way, talking through our noses would seem perfectly normal to us. |
Wilgrea7:Macro-evolution is not large changes over a small period of time. It's large changes over a very long period of time. Macro-evolution is what happens when micro-evolution goes on for a very long period of time. There is a saying that little drops of water make a mighty ocean. What you're saying is that you believe in little drops of water but they cannot possibly make a mighty ocean. Look at the lion and the tiger, which are distinct species, yet so similar. Do you really think a lion-like animal couldn't evolve into a tiger-like animal? That's macroevolution, right? |
My beef with religion is that it promotes this mindset: "I know I am right and nothing you can say or show me could possibly change my mind". |
Some more thoughts: YOLO1:If you listen closely, you can hear the sound of religious heads exploding at the thought of an atheist experiencing inner joy and satisfaction. but am still not happy the way my friends and family treat me. First thing that happened when I renounced my former religion is real hatred and acrimony among my family members. Though am of age, I still leave with my parents. Each time they wake me up for family devotion and I don't attend, the day is gonna be horror throughout. I would see the sadness and disappointment boldly written on my parents face. The worst of it is when they come back from church on Sundays and meet me at home. Most times, I pray for Sundays not to come cos I know what will happen on Sunday's afternoon. Really working to secure my accommodation just because of this reason as I cannot cope staying with them any longer.I think I can help you with this, though I do everything wrong. Actually, this is not that difficult. (1) You need to act as if it's completely normal for you to stay at home on Sundays. Welcome them sweetly and ask them how church was. Maybe you could even casually ask them who preached and what the message was about. (2) You need to give them something to enjoy from your staying at home. For example, if you can cook, you can put yourself in charge of the food they'll eat after church. So they will come home to the aroma of delicious heathen food. Recently, my girlfriend of 4 years told me she can't continue with the relationship as her parents also doesn't subscribe to my newly-found way of life. It's a thing that shattered my heart because of the love I have for her. She has been very loving, caring and supporting and I must confess, it's difficult for me to let go of her but tactically, the relationship is over now cos we can't resolve the religious differences cos am not ready to compromise my new believe. It may be best for the relationship to end, but before letting her go, I think you should put her through a few sessions of street epistemology. These are discussions in which you examine the reasons for her religious beliefs and whether they are good reasons, without judging her. Unfortunately, it seems as if she is the kind of person who can't bear to disagree with her parents, so this may not save the relationship. Why bother trying to convince a Christian or Muslim to manage you when there are non-theist ladies out there pretending to be religious? |
I think atheists' best strategy for success is to stick together. We should befriend each other, date each other, etc. We like to think of ourselves as being unique but the truth is that we have so much in common. Atheists get along extremely well because we all use the same system to figure out what is true and, because of that, we tend to arrive at the same answers. Even when we disagree, our disagreements tend to be in areas where the facts are not so clear, so our differences of opinion do not bother us at all. We are not dogmatic. Sam Harris and Richard Dawkins totally disagree on whether we can get morals from science, but it's a pleasant disagreement. There will be no bitter quarrels over this monumental difference in opinion. OTOH we've seen imams fighting because one of them dared to suggest that the hijab is not compulsory. |
Emmysteve:"Most dogs are comfortable being petted on the chest, the shoulders and the base of the neck. When petting these areas, reach in from the side, rather than moving your hand over the top of the dog’s head. Individual dogs also have specific spots where they like to be petted; common areas are the base of the tail, under the chin or on the back of the neck where the collar hits" http://www.vetstreet.com/our-pet-experts/how-to-pet-a-dog Prodeegee:This will also help, but I wonder if HolySteph has started feeding the dog yet. I don't think it can fail, especially if you hand-feed with your palm. |
