What if I don't really believe in religion? Would there be a reason to care about what is "disgraceful to God"?

It is immature to ask him o choose between you and his hair in the first place. Sign of an immature daughter.

I would like to act with RMD and Rita Dominic, but I hope I'll be able to maintain control in Rita's presence!

Hmmm. I hope they know that, at best, they will always have to play the role of Africans in their movies. Like this guy that acted as an African in Blood Diamond, Phat Girlz, and Barbershop. That's not very mainstream in my opinion!

The sky surges orange red and releases thick, warm streams of water. Lightning cracks overhead and the crowd thunders back. The hat vendor, who was having a tough time of it at a night game (no sun), springs to life. "Hundred naira, hundred! Your cap! Collect your cap!" he yells, hopping from one foot to the other like Rumpelstilt- skin. Oranges, single cigarettes (smoked collectively by the crowd, passed down the row a drag at a time), pictures of politicians, boxes of hot jollof rice and yes, peanuts, are on sale.

No one gets shorted. Little girl vendors sling a plastic-wrapped handful of peanuts up 20 rows, then wait as the grubby bill makes its way down. People who don't pay are slapped on the head and squirted with water by the 20 closest people until payment is made. The strict enforcement of honesty stands in stark relief to Nigeria's notoriety as one of the most corrupt countries in the world. Call it black-market morality.

The bag water is the most popular item -- it's the most fun to throw. Fans in the top row lob their empty water bottles at the police, with all direct hits receiving roaring applause. When the police retreat into their van, the boys in the top row begin throwing bags of water at the bottom rows. At first it's to discourage fans at the bottom from climbing on each other's shoulders and block the view of the pitch. But soon it's pure sport. The back of one boy's head becomes a favored target. Ten bags of water and five oranges smack it in less than 30 seconds. What goes down must come up, so the bottom-row boys collect the unbroken bags of water and pelt the top row with the recycled weapons.

Politics › Re: Opinion Polls Will Discourage Election Rigging? by Seun(mod): 8:54am On Mar 08, 2007
Well-conducted opinion polls should give people a general idea of how an election will turn out. Unfortunately, those types are hard to carry out and would require the involvement of good statisticians. You might end up not including certain people who will eventually vote in the election: the super-rich, the uneducated, rural-dwellers, et cetera.

TV/Movies › I Can Solve The Problem Of Movie Piracy by Seun(mod): 8:32am On Mar 08, 2007
Seun you are talking of a regulated industry abroad while Naija is unregulated. Piracy is no 1 enemy for movie makers in Naija.
I can singlehandedly solve the problem of piracy in Nigeria. In the US, the movie and music industries fights piracy by recruiting lawyers to prosecute them. This could easily be done in Nigeria. The copyright laws are very clear on what is legal and what is illegal. So why haven't Nigerian marketers done the same thing. Because they are pirates themselves! All it takes is 2 or 3 major marketers who are not pirates to hire a lawyer and go after the pirates!
TV/Movies › Re: No Award-Winning Movies From Nigeria: Why? by Seun(mod): 7:31am On Mar 08, 2007
Theatre distribution is not as lucrative as you think, even abroad. You have to advertise heavily on TV to get people into the theatres and that costs millions of dollars. If you don't get a very large audience, you lose. And you have to share the revenue with theatre owners and the MPAA. [s]DVD revenue, on the other hand, is almost pure profit.[/s]

Add to that the enormous expense of shooting and editing celluloid film, hiring actors with international appeal, and taking your crew from one country to another for various scenes, and the movie will not make money unless it appeals to a broad audience i.e. not just the award people. When piracy is rampant, you need to cut costs to make a profit.

Filmmakers are very smart. When a movie they make loses money, the investors lose but they pocket their pay. wink
Nollywood movie sponsors are too smart to be swindled in that manner, and I respect that very much. https://www.nairaland.com/Themes/default/images/post/thumbup.gif

I don't think Dede is playing the "bad judge" role as well as Simon Cowell. The 'bad judge' needs to be right.
Business › Re: Problem of PHCN/NEPA: Price Of Electricity Is Too Low by Seun(mod): 6:36am On Mar 08, 2007
If the supply is not enough, they can keep increasing the price until the demand falls to fit it exactly.
That's what private companies always do when they are unable to meet demand at the initial price. wink
Business › Re: Problem of PHCN/NEPA: Price Of Electricity Is Too Low by Seun(mod): 11:03pm On Mar 07, 2007
and who decide those who need it less? as long as they are paying for it. . .
Those who need it less will simply be those who refuse to pay the new tariff. Those who need it most will pay!

An electronic library has already beed developed. It's called: the Internets!

Ok, on a more serious note, I think an electronic library just needs:
1) A collection of educational documents in HTML or PDF format.
2) A local search engine and/or directory.
3) On a LAN, WAN, or the Internet so people can access it with their browsers.

Cheers!

Here's an interesting article about the soccer experience in Lagos:

How much maximum would you pay to watch a local soccer club match live at a stadium?
- How about a Super eagles friendly match?
- How about a nations cup match being played in Nigeria?

Thanks.

Two models of the keyboard are now available in Nigeria:
- A black model which sells for 2,750 naira.
- And a silver-black model which sells for 5,000 naira.
- No white model (based on what I can see in the ad)

Call (0803)316-1085 to order yours from LANCOR Management Limited. Don't you think it's rather expensive?

Business › Re: Problem of PHCN/NEPA: Price Of Electricity Is Too Low by Seun(mod): 1:42pm On Mar 07, 2007
You will be shocked to know that 90% of the power produced by PHCN goes to 10% of their customers, these 10% customers are the big industries and government.
Before I can comment, I'll need to know the source of this statistic. I don't think it's true.
The big industries will be less wasteful in their power consumption if they are asked to pay more.
Afterall, they know how to conserve power when they are using their generating sets.

Davidylan said that people need electricity to survive. My question: how are we currently surviving?

The long term solution is privatization. The short term solution is to price it out of the reach of those who need it less.
