Christianity EtcRe: What Caused You To Become An Athiest? by Seun(mod):
faridaije:
if someone dies because of illness, surely it is more than they can bear?
Exactly. Every verifiable promise that religion makes has been verified to be false. Only the unverifiable promises - such as the promise of an afterlife - seem to stand.

To religious people: Would you trust a friend if, of all the promises he ever made to you or other people, the only ones that could not be proven false were the ones that could not be verified?

I've argued with many a theist on God's existence, and I'm pretty sure a lot of you have done same both offline and online, and the most frequently said words after silencing their arguments are: even if there's a proof for god you still won't believe.
As atheists, we can sincerely promise to believe that their God exists if they provide us with any proof of his existence. They don't have any.

And a few other times, they insert the shitty 'absence of evidence isn't evidence of absence' argument/statement.
Actually, absence of evidence is evidence of absence. It's not proof of absence, but it's evidence. It's not conclusive evidence, but it's partial evidence which, combined with other evidence, can be used to arrive at a reasonable conclusion. If I keep telling people that I'm married, my inability to produce a marriage certificate, pictures of the wedding, my wife, or any other evidence, is evidence that I'm not married. It is possible for a married man to find himself in an unlucky situation in which he can't provide any evidence that he's married, but it's not likely.

Quick Update (Planting of Tete and Soko)Just a quick update on today's activities in my kitchen size garden. I was able to do some planting of the Lagos spinach/Green (Soko and Tete) this morning before heading out. I was able to transplant into about 7 mini-sized beds (lol). Activities continues tomorrow, more beds to be filled up with my vegetables.
Beautiful. I just can't stop admiring the way you neatly arrange your green vegetables. How did you finally overcome the challenges with Tete?

So are you saying Jesus was not the true Son of God?
No, I am saying that Jesus is not the Jewish messiah. If you read the Old Testament honestly, it doesn't support the idea of Jesus as messiah. The methods used by early Christian apologists to "prove" that Jesus is the messiah could also be used to "prove" that Jon Snow is the messiah.

The Jews ( judaism ) killed Jesus
No, they didn't. Pontius Pilate did. Some Jews supported the decision, but other Jews opposed it, so you can't blame "the Jews" as a group. The notion that "the Jews killed Jesus" is pure anti-semitism. It is one of the reasons why many Christians helped Hitler to kill millions of Jews.

and tried to oppress the truth about Jesus as the revelation of the Messiah.
Jesus was not the Jewish messiah. Most prophecies said to have been fulfilled by Jesus in the New Testament were quoted out of context.

They killed the apostles
No they didn't. The worst persecutor of early Christians - who is said to have killed Apostle Peter - was Emperor Nero of Rome. Prior to that Christians (and Jews, btw) were disliked for not sacrificing to the gods, because they believed their God was the only true God. They also got into trouble because they were misunderstood to be cannibals, since they came together regularly 'eat the flesh and drink the blood' of Jesus.

Christianity and Islam are both guilty of twisting the stories and scriptures of an existing religion to provide a foundation for their own religion.

No. People don't rejoice over the death of their aunties and uncles out of jealousy for their cousins. You must have gotten this idea in church.

I wouldn't equate 'ungodliness' with being "rotten". Many godly people are "rotten" and many 'ungodly' people are honest, disciplined, and kind.
AgricultureRe: Making Your Own Cheap Organic Fungicides by Seun(mod): 9:18am On Nov 05, 2017
My preferred approach is to read the scientific research about every chemical available, and pick the one that is highly effective and at the same time not so toxic to other living things. Or, if I dont have time, I will just check google to find out if the chemical has been banned in any western country, and why. Organic and environmentally friendly aren’t the same thing.

I am listening to the song that was playing whilst she was dying.

My mother is dead.

I am so upset,

I just want her here with me.

Help me, I feel like dying - I do not see the point of my life anymore, my enemies are surely rejoicing at this calamity.
Sorry about what happened to your mother. There is probably no God looking after us or watching over us or allowing bad things to happen to us. Your mum was just unlucky. It can happen to any one of us. This is the random cruelty of life, and it is very painful.

Though your mum is gone and you’ll never get to talk to her again, she lives on in your memory and in the memory of all the people whose lives she touched. You can honor her by taking good care of yourself, and your equally bereaved siblings, and achieving all the great things that your mother wanted you to achieve.

Islam is not a true religion.

Mohammed was simply an Arab scholar who taught about 500 years after Jesus' time when christianity was gaining grounds.

Note that around this period, Jerusalem was in the hands of Moslems before it was recaptured in 1099 by order of the Pope.

Muslims twisted Christianity and its message was lost in translation thereby forming a new 'religion'.
That’s exactly the same thing that Christians did to Judaism. Christians used the Jewish scriptures to grant legitimacy to their religion, and developed a creative interpretation of it that is not accepted by the Jews, just as Christians don’t accept the Muslim version of the story of Jesus, or their creative interpretation of the verses of the New Testament that refer to the “comforter” coming after Jesus.
Christianity EtcRe: Ten Keys To Raising Godly Children by Seun(mod):
From experience, I know that all of the above may not work if you are unable to provide your children with sufficient objective evidence for the existence of God and the divine inspiration of the Bible.

AgricultureRe: Anyone Heard Of Tomato Roma by Seun(mod): 9:03pm On Nov 04, 2017
That is a kind of Roma tomato, which is “a plum tomato popularly used both for canning and producing tomato paste because of their slender and firm nature.”

This kind of tomato is classified as a “Hausa tomato” in Nigeria because it’s commonly grown in the north. “Hausa tomatoes” are considered to be the best tomatoes for making Nigerian stews.

The most commonly grown Roma tomatoes in Nigeria are the Roma VF, which is resistant to two wilt diseases and available from Premier Seeds, and the Roma VFN, which is also resistant to nematodes and available from Jumia and Shoprite.

To grow this kind of tomato in Southern Nigeria may not be so easy except during the dry season or under a rain shelter e.g. a greenhouse, unless you spray them with a fungicide regularly, because they tend to develop fungal diseases and other problems when it rains a lot.

I’m trying to grow Roma VFN in my tiny garden, so I guess I’ll have more to say in the future.

Christianity EtcRe: How Do You Control Sexual Urge When You Are Single..? by Seun(mod): 8:10pm On Nov 02, 2017
Strong sexual urges are normal and good. They motivate us to “be fruitful and multiply”, which was the first great commission in the Bible. You can control them by “pleasing” yourself.

Sex isn’t unholy or dirty. It is normal and healthy and good for humanity.

oyetpel:
Dry season is the best time for planting tomatoes.
Because it doesn't need too much rain. And heavy rain won't be bending your tomato stems.
jidestroud:
This is the perfect time to go into tomato farming. Tomato does well in a Sandy - loamy soil with lots of Sunlight. The dry season also helps warm the soil up for efficient growth.
Tnx; this is encouraging. I fear that if I plant now, the tomatoes won't be done before the rainy season starts; the rain may spoil everything.

NOTE: You will also need to put the variety to be planted into consideration (A dry weather resistant variety)
I will be doing a little of Tomato farming myself. I have gotten two major types grown in the Northern part of Nigeria i.e. Roma VF and the Uc 82b variety.
I picked Roma VFN because among the available varieties: (1) it's nematode resistant (my soil has nematodes), and (2) I love the fruit shape.

fluentinfor:
Any farmer who plants now will compete with tomatoes from the north. It is already dry season. So, this is not the time to do commercial tomato farming if you do not want to compete with the northerners. Except you have your special market.
Tnx; noted. (Even as a mere gardener, I would prefer to harvest my tomatoes when tomatoes are relatively expensive, to justify the effort)
Christianity EtcRe: What Is The Blasphemy Against The Holy Spirit? by Seun(mod): 4:21am On Nov 01, 2017
Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit means attributing the signs and wonders performed by a true agent of God to the devil or an evil spirit. For example, if you say that TB Joshua or Benny Hinn's miracles are of the devil, but you happen to be wrong, God will never ever forgive you, even if you repent. However, if you murder thousands of innocent people during your life, only to repent in your dying moments, God will forgive you.
