The idea of the Abrahamic God developed over time. He started out as a god of war and over the centuries the Jews and Christians kept hyping him up:
Israel’s god of war.
The jealous god of Israel who tolerates no other gods.
The strongest god.
The ruler of all the other gods.
The only true God.
The creator of all things.
Who can do all things.
Who knows all things past, present and future.
Who is everywhere all at once.
Who loves everybody and wants them to go to heaven.

The contradictions in the Bible regarding the limitations of Gods powers and his nature testify of this evolution of the idea of God as conceived by men. (Jesus went through a similar evolution; He was not always considered to be co-equal with God)

The original writers of many of the stories in Genesis simply didn’t think that God was omnipresent and omniscient. They believed that God lived on a throne in the sky (“heavens”). And he had messengers (angels) who flew to the earth from the sky with their wings to deliver messages on his behalf. And he came down from the sky occasionally to instruct and bless the righteous men (not women). It’s a pity that modern Christians choose to read these dated fables as if they are historical facts.

Can you post the before and after laboratory reports? Since she is your sister it won’t be difficult to get them.

I don’t believe that prayer can cause a blind person to regain his sight. What seems to happen in crusades is that people who are partially blind are introduced as if they were totally blind and then people are amazed when they can see things that they could actually see before prayer. People who have bad legs but can still struggle to walk are placed on wheelchairs and people are amazed when they get up from the wheelchairs and force themselves to walk briefly after prayer. Have you noticed that people who are said to have been healed often look confused and tired instead of looking extremely happy about being able to do what they couldn’t do before?

The verse about women wearing men's clothes is Deuteronomy 22:5.
If Christians are to obey that, they should also obey the following commandments from the same chapter:

"Do not plant two kinds of seed in your vineyard"
"Do not wear clothes of wool and linen woven together."
"Make tassels on the four corners of the cloak you wear."
"If a man is found sleeping with another man's wife, both the man who slept with her and the woman must die."

And from the next chapter (23):
"No one who has been emasculated by crushing or cutting may enter the assembly of the LORD."
"No one born of a forbidden marriage nor any of their descendants may enter the assembly of the LORD, not even in the tenth generation."
"You shall not charge interest to your countrymen: interest on money, food, or anything that may be loaned at interest." (NASB)

No, the part of the bible you're talking about only applies to Jewish women. It includes a lot of other rules that Christians don't follow.

I believe that the story of doubting Thomas was fabricated to address people like me who could not believe in the resurrection of Jesus due to the lack of evidence. It simultaneously suggests that (1) the evidence actually existed, and (2) believing without the evidence is somehow better. What a clever way to avoid having to provide evidence for a highly unlikely claim.

My answer to the thread is that we celebrate Christmas, but we understand it differently. It is a time at the end of the year when we get to meet with the friends and family members and lovers that we don’t usually get to meet, and have a good time with them. It’s the end of year holiday. That’s all.

This suggests that the power of Nigerian churches comes, not from the working of any Holy Spirit, but from their ability to extract loads of cash from their members every month. I was stumped when my friend showed it to me. I thought hard about it but I couldn't come up with a logical explanation for why the events in the video weren't supernatural. Eventually,I concluded that the video was doctored and my friend and I argued back and forth. When I got home,I was troubled. I would ask for proof whenever I'm told about supernatural events. Here was "proof" but I still wouldn't accept it. I actually dismissed it and claimed it was doctored without any proof!

There is no shame in not having an explanation for every phenomenon that is purported to be supernatural. It’s ok to say “I am not sure about what caused that to happen, but I don’t believe it's anything supernatural”. Then you can list the possibilities without necessarily claiming that a particular one is definitely true. For example, part of the video could have been played in reverse to make it look as if the tree was “fighting back”, or the tree probably just happened to have very strong and elastic roots, which bounced back after being bent. Have you noticed how palm trees bend when there's a very strong wind trying to push them over, and bounce back once the wind stops blowing?

Update: Here’s a YouTube comment explaining it: “Oak trees are among the deep-rooted deciduous trees .
