PaChukwudi44:The story of Melchizedek is very fishy. He came from nowhere to collect Abraham's tithe, and was never heard from again. It's as if someone wanted the story to say that Abraham tithed, realised that there was no one he could tithe to, and invented Melchizedek just for this purpose. As for the Jacob's vow to tithe, the writer avoided the need to create another Melchizedek by not explaining exactly how he paid the tithes. |
The most important reason why you should not pay tithes is that there is no good evidence that a God who needs 10% of your salary exists. The stories of Abraham and Jacob paying tithes were inserted into Genesis by the priests to convince the Israelites to pay tithes to them. The priests who asked Israelites to pay tithes on animals and crops to them were no better than pastors who demand monetary tithes today. |
Hmm. How have prices changed since 2014? |
mercy0008:Maybe they just assumed she was AS because your mother was AS. Maybe the person who first tested her made a mistake. Why did your sister request prayer for the change of her genotype, though? People with AS genotype are more resistant to malaria, you know. |
PuntGenius:Good question. The Holy Spirit either doesn't exist, or has an extremely poor track record of explaining the correct biblical doctrine to Christians. |
mercy0008:Is it possible for someone to think that her genotype was AS when in fact her genotype was AA? If so, couldn't your sister have been mistaken? |
harbjar:No religion really makes sense. The only difference is how their followers react when this fact is pointed out. Muslims usually turn to violence. bitchcrafts:I'm not talking about death threats and violent protests demanding the execution of people whose words or cartoons offended Muslims. ![]() |
I would like to have a single cocoa tree in my compound someday, just for fun. It suits our climate in the South West. |
Liberalism and morality are not opposed to each other. We only think they are because religion has given us a very warped view of morality. Liberals fight for the rights of the oppressed, such as the poor, the enslaved, victims of racism/sexism, (and gays). This is a very moral cause. * * * In my view, the gay law is immoral and should be repealed. |
harbjar:Why can't muslims fight back with words? Why must they kill? Is it because they don't have good arguments/evidence to support their views? |
UbanmeUdie:he is giving the tithe to himself, so he can even increase it to 90% without any effect on his life. |
It’s a feature not a bug. |
I am currently liking Pastor Kumuyi a little bit because of this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wf-fmJkbRwI |
The idea of the Abrahamic God developed over time. He started out as a god of war and over the centuries the Jews and Christians kept hyping him up: Israel’s god of war. The jealous god of Israel who tolerates no other gods. The strongest god. The ruler of all the other gods. The only true God. The creator of all things. Who can do all things. Who knows all things past, present and future. Who is everywhere all at once. Who loves everybody and wants them to go to heaven. The contradictions in the Bible regarding the limitations of Gods powers and his nature testify of this evolution of the idea of God as conceived by men. (Jesus went through a similar evolution; He was not always considered to be co-equal with God) The original writers of many of the stories in Genesis simply didn’t think that God was omnipresent and omniscient. They believed that God lived on a throne in the sky (“heavens”). And he had messengers (angels) who flew to the earth from the sky with their wings to deliver messages on his behalf. And he came down from the sky occasionally to instruct and bless the righteous men (not women). It’s a pity that modern Christians choose to read these dated fables as if they are historical facts. |
mercy0008:How did she get to believe that she was AS before, and how did she get to know that she is now AA? Can you post the before and after laboratory reports? Since she is your sister it won’t be difficult to get them. |
In my view this thread is in poor taste. The problem he is facing is just one of the problems of old age. It can happen to anyone, sinner or saint. |
Mediapace:My garden. How much per kilo of the powder and the calcium carbonate? I guess it’s also available at Ojota chemical, yet I’d rather not go that far. |
Hello, I need 5-10 kilos each of gypsum powder and finely ground calcium carbonate powder. Where can I get them? I need the type that is used to make chalk (I’m not making chalk) Thanks! |
YOLO1:I don’t believe that prayer can cause a blind person to regain his sight. What seems to happen in crusades is that people who are partially blind are introduced as if they were totally blind and then people are amazed when they can see things that they could actually see before prayer. People who have bad legs but can still struggle to walk are placed on wheelchairs and people are amazed when they get up from the wheelchairs and force themselves to walk briefly after prayer. Have you noticed that people who are said to have been healed often look confused and tired instead of looking extremely happy about being able to do what they couldn’t do before? |
Jochabed:The verse about women wearing men's clothes is Deuteronomy 22:5. If Christians are to obey that, they should also obey the following commandments from the same chapter: "Do not plant two kinds of seed in your vineyard" "Do not wear clothes of wool and linen woven together." "Make tassels on the four corners of the cloak you wear." "If a man is found sleeping with another man's wife, both the man who slept with her and the woman must die." And from the next chapter (23): "No one who has been emasculated by crushing or cutting may enter the assembly of the LORD." "No one born of a forbidden marriage nor any of their descendants may enter the assembly of the LORD, not even in the tenth generation." "You shall not charge interest to your countrymen: interest on money, food, or anything that may be loaned at interest." (NASB) How many of the above commands do you think all Christians should obey? |
Jochabed:No, the part of the bible you're talking about only applies to Jewish women. It includes a lot of other rules that Christians don't follow. |
MuttleyLaff:I believe that the story of doubting Thomas was fabricated to address people like me who could not believe in the resurrection of Jesus due to the lack of evidence. It simultaneously suggests that (1) the evidence actually existed, and (2) believing without the evidence is somehow better. What a clever way to avoid having to provide evidence for a highly unlikely claim. “I can fly like a bird” “I won’t believe you unless you fly in my presence.” “Last year, I had a friend named Thomas who doubted my ability to fly, just as you do. He was so embarrassed when I flew in his presence, that he had to kill himself. He should have just believed me without asking for evidence. And so should you, by the way.” |
sassyboochic:That the things I need to believe in order to become a Christian are actually true. My answer to the thread is that we celebrate Christmas, but we understand it differently. It is a time at the end of the year when we get to meet with the friends and family members and lovers that we don’t usually get to meet, and have a good time with them. It’s the end of year holiday. That’s all. |
DangotePikin:It is true that any reduction in tithe payment will reduce the power of Nigerian churches. This suggests that the power of Nigerian churches comes, not from the working of any Holy Spirit, but from their ability to extract loads of cash from their members every month. Money is necessary and sufficient to make a Nigerian church successful. Everything else is just branding. |
BecaciaBarbie:I’m ready to return back to Christ this afternoon if you can provide me with the evidence. |
The little charity that the churches do from time to time is not more than the CSR that purely for-profit corporations like Shell also do. Would you accept the idea that it's wrong to criticize Shell when they pollute the Niger Delta because they use some of their profits for CSR? Most of the corrupt ex-politicians that we often criticize also spend some of their money on charity. Does this make them any less corrupt? |
LargeProfessor:There is no shame in not having an explanation for every phenomenon that is purported to be supernatural. It’s ok to say “I am not sure about what caused that to happen, but I don’t believe it's anything supernatural”. Then you can list the possibilities without necessarily claiming that a particular one is definitely true. For example, part of the video could have been played in reverse to make it look as if the tree was “fighting back”, or the tree probably just happened to have very strong and elastic roots, which bounced back after being bent. Have you noticed how palm trees bend when there's a very strong wind trying to push them over, and bounce back once the wind stops blowing? Update: Here’s a YouTube comment explaining it: “Oak trees are among the deep-rooted deciduous trees . They develop strong taproots that penetrate so deep into the earth , that they can reach the ground water. There is no way somebody can uproot a oak tree like that - its not possible at all not even the strongest storm” |
