sajmark:Also, I didn't say it was bad hygiene. I was only telling you how to care for.your teeth. Cracks should always be checked out too, a simple filling of barely 6,000 and regular check ups and refilling after several years or a crown would have sufficed if you had presented early. Hence the need for early presentation. |
sajmark:I clicked your profile and saw your comments on your redpill thread or so. I don't mean to discredit your Dentist but I doubt the tooth should be filled. Please, I think you should seek a second opinion. I didn't see you and I didn't examine, but with the level of pain you described, the pulp of the tooth is most likely infected and if the tooth is filled, it is like sealing in the infection and it may worsen things. Now, let me ask; 1. Is there pain on its own or only when you chew? 2. On a scale of 1-10 how bad will you rate the pain? 3. How long have you had the pain? 4. Any headache? Does it make that side of your face or jaw hurt? 5. Did you have a peri apical xray of the tooth taken at all? Also, an extraction doesn't affect your chances of getting into the military. A root canal therapy is the better option but you have seen that it's quite pricey and it's always better to crown the tooth after, which increases the overall cost. |
sajmark:You for no register nah, you should have kept chugging down painkillers and garlic and lime. Your home therapies didn't work? Didn't you still land in a Dental chair? So how was the extraction? Or are you opting for a root canal therapy? Remember to stick to all post operative instructions given especially warm water and salt. Also, protect your teeth, brush twice daily (morning and night) with a medium bristled toothbrush and a fluoridated toothpaste, change your toothbrush regularly, most brushes these days don't last up to 3 months before the edges fray, don't scrub too hard. Also, see your Dentist regularly for check ups and early detection of any cavity, so your next thread won't be about how you removed a tooth and all your teeth are going bad ![]() |
ivana10:Also, using lime for long periods of time causes erosion of the teeth due to its acidity, especially the upper front teeth and can make them brittle and cause them to wear down or chip off gradually, it can also cause sensitivity. It is for the same reason that sugary foods and drinks, sports drinks, sodas, lemon juice and other acidic drinks are discouraged. It is better to use a straw when taking lemon or lime for medical and well being reasons. Also, to whoever may read this, brushing immediately after taking such foods and drinks is not advised because the teeth are at the most sensitive within 30minutes after consumption, so wait a while before brushing after consuming sugary and acidic drinks and food. Garlic causes chemical burns/ ulcers on the gums and mouth odour. Next please?

ivana10:Here we go again.... Fluoride is a main constituent of most tooth pastes everywhere in the world. Here in Nigeria, the only toothpastes I am aware of without fluoride are Euthymol, Mymy, Maxam and herbal toothpastes. Do you know why? Fluoride strengthens the teeth and is more stable than Calcium. In incipient or early dental decay or caries, fluoride can remineralize and stop the decay. But I guess ivana10 is smarter than scientists and Dentists who have spent time and devoted their lives to such studies as well as seen many patients and have gathered concrete evidence over the years ![]() |
wiseone28:Excluding card and consultation and an x-ray to be sure the tooth came out fully and didn't break inside, REMOVABLE PARTIAL DENTURES cost ranges from 7,000-15,000. Cheapest option will be General Hospitals and Teaching Hospitals. Private hospitals will cost more. |
sajmark:You guys are just weird and don't prioritize when it comes to your health plus dental fear. I doubt you have even seen a Dentist at all, but here you are shopping for home therapies for something as vital as your health. If you are in Lagos or Ogun, with barely 8,000 you will get a card and have the tooth extracted painlessly in General Hospitals and some health centers. If things go south, all these your fellow Nairalanders with suggestions on garlic and co won't be there. You will be on your own with your pain and probably need to spend more. You don't have money to see a Dentist but you will probably have money for all those fancy useless and expensive toothpastes they sell? Is it not money that you will use to buy the home therapies being suggested? Early presentation would have saved you from a tooth extraction and the more you delay, the worse it will probably get. The gum may swell and pus or blood discharge will start and expensive anti biotics will be needed. Next thing if it degenerates to an abscess or worse still- Ludwig's angina, you will say it is spiritual and your village people are at it. 8,000 becomes over 150,000 for incision and drainage, IV antibiotics, hospital stay or even more for surgeries and ICU stay. Why am I even wasting my time sef? Una no dey hear word, ever. |
Dfrenzy:Wrong advice please. Charcoal is too abrasive and wears down the teeth in the long run without whitening the teeth, you can check it online. White teeth isn't the goal (even Dentists don't have them). The goal should be clean, healthy, teeth. Please visit a good Dental clinic around you, do a scaling and polishing (teeth cleaning) and then brush twice daily (morning and last thing before bed as much as you can) Teeth whitening as expensive as it is doesn't last, in a few months or couple of years the teeth will still get stained, especially due to our diet(potatoes, tomato paste, coloured drinks and coloured foods, even apples) Please be careful in your search, especially with the herbal and home made part, yu may end up causing more harm to your teeth. There is no guaranteed toothpaste that will whiten your teeth. The only way to truly have your desired white teeth is to have veneers done if you have the money, they are expensive but cover each individual tooth, giving you your desired colour and shape. |
Mummytoo:I don't think you will be eating fried rice or your regular foods for a while ma ![]() Just try to take what your body can tolerate. Nah first trimester package, it may look far but you will soon be done. That's how I came to rant here too during my first trimester. Eat in bits, some women can only tolerate cold water or warm water, you can try that in case you can't drink your water. At a point in my first trimester, I could only take cold malt, later it was small white rice and very tiny stew, later it was lipton and little milk. Later I was given intravenous fluids in the hospital when food and liquids deserted me. I lost weight like kilode ![]() Try to guard yourself from strong odours, to reduce nausea. You can also try to see a doctor though they may say it's too early to register for antenatal. Concerning cypri gold, it's a category B drug for Pregnancy, meaning that it is relatively safe during pregnancy but I think you may want to try Real night aid tablet. It helps with nausea and also improves sleep and it is safe in pregnancy. Vitamin b6 and ginger too have good reviews but they didn't really work for me. Just try to be careful with drugs generally. Best wishes Ma'am
|
Mummytoo:You can also take it along with folic acid ma'am. There are mixed reviews about Pregnancy multivitamins but I think it's just better and safer to take them, especially if you can't eat well due to severe nausea and vomiting and they also make up for inadequate calcium, vitamins and co from our diet. |
Graciousking:Congrats Mama .For the tooth extraction, yes it is safe in pregnancy. We do extractions for pregnant women but you can only take Paracetamol and no strong painkiller after the procedure(no panadol, no ibuprofen or diclofenac). Flagyl and Amoxyl are the routine antibiotics and are safe in pregnancy but under no condition should you take tetracycline. You can read more about it online. Also check all drugs online before you use them and make sure you go to a good dental clinic. Please let me know if you have any other question. |
TOHHAN:That's basically a way to grade the maturity of the placenta on an ultrasound. At this stage, you are in grade 1 which is normal, as the placenta matures more you should reach grade 2 around 30 weeks. |
TOHHAN:1. Longitudinal lie/breech presentation: baby is still actively turning and it's not an issue for now. 2. Anterior placenta: also not an issue, it just shows where the placenta is in relation to the fetus. In front of it (anterior) or at the back (posterior) 3. Adequate liquor: normal/ enough amniotic fluid. Not too small and not in excess 4. Internal os is closed: as it should be for now, it will open as the body preps for labour |
TOHHAN:First trimester scans are always/usually the most accurate. Edd is calculated based on the head circumference, femur length and other fetal dimensions so if you have a baby that is average or big (in a good or high percentile of development) it moves the EDD closer. That's why dating scans are done in the first trimester. Be prepared for anything though. I hope I made small sense ![]() |
Thank you baby124 for alerting people. Op, I have attached the real details of the lady as gotten. The details of the fund raising are all over Twitter. I wanted to tag the mods to try to close the thread but instead I will post the original details and tag your names and account details for fraud so it will come up if anyone ever tries to check. omotola90:For Axa mansard, I downloaded a form, filled it, scanned it and that was all. They also reply mails immediately. For Piggy vest, my bvn verification first took forever, kept saying it was wrong- the same bvn I use and I have always used. If I have to struggle with just registration on an app, then it is honestly not worth putting my money in. I don't like stress ![]() |
I use Axa mansard for their mutual funds and it's been a good ride so far, the annual rate fluctuates and is currently around 8% but; 1. I have peace of mind that my savings is in a good place. 2. I get regular reports of how I am doing as well as news of the global financial market. 3. It is very easy to set up and once you transfer money to it before 2pm, it reflects immediately and you will be notified immediately. I downloaded piggyvest and found the app quite hard to use, I deleted it last last. 4. You can liquidate whenever you need money, this may not be too good if you find it hard to save and you are trying to save more but for someone like me, I hardly consider the 'liquidate' option. Branch and Carbon are also good options but it's best to really understand the workings of any app before you go into it and not just hearsay. Do your research, compare options on this thread and be sure you are fully convinced before setting any up. |
Healthquest:It will be well ma. Please see a good gynaecologist, I don't know if your current doctor is one. Also, it may take some time before the body expels everything and there may still be bleeding which may last for a few weeks. So it may be a bit early to repeat the scan. Please work in sync with your doctor, if there will be a need for retreatment and for regular reviews. Best wishes Mama |
Mercychen:Truly, no man is an island and no one is perfect but sometimes you need to create boundaries- good boundaries for yourself, your health, your marriage, your mental health and future. I am talking from experience and it's been years but I am still trying to shake out resentment I built in just a few weeks. I still struggle to call my mother in law and I certainly don't look forward to having her come to help nurse another baby. I still remember my Dad telling me to walk properly and be a strong woman (barely 12 hours after child birth and having several stitches in my perineum). I know they love me and maybe that's how they expressed their love and concern for me at that time but it's not the kind of love I wanted nor needed. I'd rather just wing through it with my hubby and a paid help next time to reduce house chores so I can focus on myself and family |
monex:I have a son, hence the reply. |
Jaculze:He should stand her up and beat sense into her first? ![]() Please do enlighten me. |
Oflagos:Many people buy them, the market for such items isn't your main drawback. The issues you may have are; 1. Many people already sell such, most primary health centers have people who sell and they are easily accessible to new mum's and babies. 2. Many shops also sell them as well as online stores. Since you have people on ground in Nigeria to help (as long as you know they are trust worthy), you can give it a try. Instagram is a good tool you can use, just create enough awareness and publicity and voila! You should be good to go. Best wishes. |
sugarcoatted:They take out those items to clean the baby after birth and don't return them. I bought the big Dele cotton wool, the nurses did not return it despite taking only small to clean the baby. They usually also take the coconut oil/olive oil, methylated spirit and Dettol or Savlon, I really learnt from the first episode and will henceforth only pack lightly. Nigerian hospitals are interesting I swear. |
Op, talk to your wife. Sit her down and really talk to her, no one should make you uncomfortable in your own house, you even offered to help. If it was your mum, she probably wouldn't be that comfortable and would also want her gone as fast as possible. It is really weird and funny to me though that not many people are bashing the Op, contrary to if a woman had written this about her own in law. It is truly a man's world. I'll bet you don't even stay in the house 24/7 with them and you are this pissed, now imagine a woman/new mum staying with her mum in law or even her own mum 24/7 and having to take whatever she sees like that as per how Nigerians reason. No one will consider the new mum or talk about how different her views on child rearing may be from her own mum or mum in law, nothing about privacy and alone time, some mothers will bring potful of herbs for a newborn and the wife will just be there confused as to how to fight for herself or the new baby. May I not be jobless and purposeless enough to spend my older years sitting in my son's house for months to tend a new born. Help during the first weeks when you can and when that help is needed most and move on with your life abeg. |
1Sharon:A young girl; Ralia who got missing while running an errand for her mum. She had several adventures, met a witch, escaped from her, met a hunter, then a prince, until she was eventually reunited with her mum. It was so much fun to read back then, I should probably look for the book again. |
Ralia, the sugar girl. The writing was so superb, I can still literally smell the foul stench of the Old woman's cooking and I can picture her long dirty nails in my head too. |
Apart from my personal experience sir, I am also a health worker. I am not bitter and biased, just pained that you are advertising something that misleads many Nigerians. Guess who attends them to the many patients stem cell drugs have given false hope? Guess who they cry to about spending so much on alternative therapies and barely have just a few thousands or more for definitive treatment in the hospital? I haven't seen a single case, not one where stem cells/ phytoscience was successful. I am sure if we open a thread to ask, you will get a semblance of what people are going through. All these talk about long term use and combining and what not are just bogus terms. I still saw a woman 2 weeks ago, but sadly she presented too late. I don't even know why I am trying to enlighten you or anyone that wants to buy. Many Nigerians don't learn and it is really sad. Op, let me also tell you a funny story. Some years back, I had an ovarian cyst. While I was waiting for a surgery my mum talked about a woman selling stem cell drugs that people kept talking about, I grudgingly went to meet the woman, I got to her and she kept boasting about the drugs, I asked if she knew what she was saying and asked how it could help the cyst in my ovary, the woman looked at me with a brief confused look and asked what an ovary is. I couldn't laugh, a fellow woman and supposed wonder cure peddler had no idea what an ovary is. She quickly recovered enough to assure me the drug would work though. I laughed till I left her estate that day. I later had my surgery in Lasuth and I have had no issues since then. |
It is your means of livelihood, I already said that whatever I write won't change your mind but I hope it changes the minds of those out there who think it is a miracle cure. If you want to tout stem cell therapy/phytoscience as multivitamins and supplements, I can assure you that there are far more cheaper and potent options out there, especially for women trying to conceive. So they don't have to buy a truck load of unproven drugs with no medical basis of cures that don't exist. As per the caliber of people you said that you see giving testimonies, please did you really think that you would see a different caliber of people? It's all about adverts and multilevel marketing with no recourse whatsoever to the buyers and consumers. Other pharmaceutical companies employ full time staff that are usually well paid compared to even HMOs and hospitals, they engage in corporate social responsibility, work in sync with pharmacies, pharmacists and hospitals, ask for feedback on their products, but not your ogas. Their own emphasis is buy, buy, buy and buy some more. They promise sellers heaven and earth and throw in unattainable bonuses, showing you a few people who got such gifts. No risk assessment, nothing. If the product worked, patients and consumers would refer and tell others about it. Sellers wouldn't have to create multiple facebook pages and a gazillion threads on Nairaland too. |
kingviny:You also got your details from google sir. So let's do this, I will take you on a tour of clinics in Luth and show you cancer patients and other patients that were misled by phytoscience and mostly presented when their condition got worse. In a particular breast cancer patient, when she was first diagnosed, she refused surgery and started phytoscience therapy, the cancer got worse, was fungating and spreading, she kept contacting the seller and was told that it was just the drugs eating the cancer up from within and she was fine. When it had spread to her lungs and breathing was hard, she eventually presented in the hospital but it was too late. In 2016 or so, my mum suffered from joint pain and was wowed by phytoscience, I tried to advice her accordingly but she said she would rather try. I personally went to the office in Ikeja to buy her packs, it was around 16,000-18,000 then. She used over 5 packs without any improvement. In fact for the first time ever, she was treated for cystitis while on the supplements and was asked to stop them. Also, they are not FDA approved, only embryonic/umbilical cord stem cells so far are approved for management of blood disorders and some cancers and immune disorders. We are talking about life here, you can't just quote a random man and a super apple and proudly tell me it has been in existence since 2012. Do you know how long MMM ran before it's collapse? Now on a final note, let us do this. I will take you on a tour of a teaching hospital in Lagos and you can select one or two patients with established diagnosis, and test your therapy to see if it works. I will be waiting Best wishes |
Abbeycharles:Most scans are usually accurate if done well, to put your mind at ease though you can repeat it in a different reputable centre. Also, joysticks are not easy to miss by experienced eyes on an ultrasound, so there's that , except your baby's position during the scan didn't give access to the genitals. If you saw your baby turning, the baby was active and all on the screen, then the operator should have gotten a good look and won't be wrong. |
