Hello, op. I am guessing that most of your teeth are grossly broken or stained? Well, I will try to make a brief list that may help you. You will need Patience, a good dentist/ dental Clinic, time and money...lots of money. Patience, because whatever will be done for you won't be overnight, your treatment will be in stages until you achieve what you desire. A good Dentist and clinic because empathy goes a long way, good communication is key and a not so expensive place raises your chances of getting the dental care you desire. Time, because as I said, your treatment will most likely be in stages and there will be many clinic visits. Money, I don't think I have to explain that part. So what can be done? If your teeth are discoloured, they can simply be covered up, either with composite (cheaper but not so strong and composite stains over time with use) or you have veneers made to cover the teeth (these are expensive, realistic and last for several years) If you have many broken down and worn teeth. You may need to take out the most hopeless of them, treat and save the ones that can be treated and saved and then get almost life like replacements depending on your pockets but dentures are quite cheap and affordable. I hope you get the gist? If you are in Lagos, try LUTH at Idi Araba. Also, early presentation in a clinic matters, the more you delay, the worse things get , the worse the prognosis and the lower your chances at saving some teeth are. Feel free to read up online and let me know if you have questions. I wish you the best |
I wonder if the Op tried any or all of these and they worked..... ....or he is just another desperate wanna be blogger. Also, they don't work. Please see your dentist if you have pain, the earlier you go, the better it usually is for you. Do your research, try to get a good dentist, keep up with appointments and have your teeth checked regularly. Also, don't forget to brush twice a day(morning and at night before bed) Don't neglect your oral hygiene and health and then come to Nairaland later to open a thread to bash Nigerian dentists. You are welcome |
The following screenshots are what the Op has to say
|
Please see a dentist. The tooth may be worn or cracked leading to the sensitivity and may need treatment. Identifying the cause may help to prevent such from happening to the other teeth. Meanwhile you can try using Sensodyne rapid action or Pepsodent sensitive expert, you can brush with it and then at night before bed just take a small amount and rub it on the sensitive tooth. |
nedekid:There is no worm in the tooth, it is a popular gimmick by those selling toothache relieving drugs and concoctions. I can't count how many of such people still end up in the clinic to have the teeth removed eventually since most of those drugs offer only temporary relief. Someone needs to do a research on how much Nigerians patronize and respect the opinions of road side healers, chemists and traditional healers COMPARED to medical professionals. |
Sterope:Your comment is also highly irresponsible ma'am. Dentists hardly make choices for people, but it is not irresponsible nor unprofessional to suggest it if it the obvious option to save that tooth(and others around it too). We Nigerians should also improve, let us enlighten ourselves about our oral health, and present early to the clinics when the tooth or teeth can still be saved. Most people would rather take all sorts of drugs and dental powders sold in traffic or by the road than go for a proper check up. Then when the tooth is grossly broken, already shaking, causing swelling and severe pain, they run to the hospital and start dictating and making unreasonable demands. Try to be better, learn to do better, spread the proper message about proper oral health care. |
Angelfrost:Also, euthymol hardly helps with sensitivity. Most protective toothpastes contain fluoride. Fluoride reinforces the teeth, making them stronger and less disposed to dissolution from acid. Euthymol has no fluoride, the major constituent is thymol which is a good antibacterial agent, also the strong minty taste leaves the mouth more refreshed in many users and it helps with gum issues. It doesn't help with sensitivity or really protect against cavities. You can read more about it online. Misinforming people without facts and based mainly on personal experience like yours doesn't help much and it is certainly not helping at all in this case. You also prescribed Diclofenac, you didn't ask if he has a history of peptic ulcer, this is one of the dangers of online prescription. Instead of treating the root cause of the pain, you are encouraging him to take Diclofenac, others may see it and then turn to popping drugs continuously when they have pain instead of treating the root cause of the pain, hence doing more damage to their health Please note before you decide to take Diclofenac without restrictions and caution: Diclofenac and other NSAIDS if used for long periods of time, can predispose one to peptic ulcer. |
Angelfrost:Nigerians eat more of carbohydrates and don't combine food classes well but it is not that bad. Common foods such as okro, bread, milk, fish, beans, akara, milk, pap and milk, vegetables including ugwu, eggs, sweet potatoes, oranges, sardines, cereals, yoghurt and so many other Nigerian meals contain calcium. Rural dwellers will consume less calcium containing foods, many studies have not been conducted in urban areas, show us statistics, not just your own point of view. |
Chii59:I am so sorry about that ma'am It is either they were not properly done or the positions of those holes are complicating things, especially if they are at the edge of the tooth or the holes are quite large. Please see your dentist, it was done just three months ago and they are already out- you may not need to pay again. Or get a second opinion. You may also need to get permanent dental crowns after they are well filled the next time, they are pricey but with that you may have some peace of mind. Please don't wait too long so the teeth won't start hurting and you may now need extractions or root canal therapies, biko
|
Pa3cia:No ma, there is no worm in your mouth, you can read about it online. |
Angelfrost:Fun fact, taking calcium frequently makes the bone more dense and hence teeth are more difficult to remove when they eventually need to be extracted from lack of timely, adequate professional DENTAL care. Enough Calcium is usually gotten through our diet, if anyone needs calcium supplements, it should not be because one or two teeth have holes. You are welcome. |
GetMeRight:Well done sir, you have done well, please try to have her teeth checked regularly, reduce her sugar intake, monitor her while she brushes and change her toothbrush regularly (once the edges of the bristles bend/fray). You people should read and learn from him o. You are welcome |
Grandmeister:Sorry about this but it is very rare for an extraction to lead to death, so maybe you want to flesh up your story a bit? It is either she had hemophilia and bled out without receiving proper care or the problematic tooth already caused Ludwig's angina and she already had septicemia. Yes, holes in teeth can kill sometimes. Sorry again |
zedegit:It costs much less sir, extractions are cheap and your tooth turning brown should spur you to go and have it checked. Next thing you know, it could become loose (start shaking) and fall out while chewing agege bread or soft dodo next Sunday or in 2023, or 2035. Then you will remember this thread and come back here to wail about how your turn has come and the evil naija dentist train has hit you |
Omoslim26:I don't see how this is funny honestly, in saner climes, such won't happen. If anyone feels they are not satisfied with any treatment option, why not seek a second or third opinion. The dentist was there to help and do his/her job. It is well- or not |
Chii59:I hope you have your teeth checked regularly though? Knowing that you are more at risk should prompt you to do better and take better care of your teeth |
NoFap123:Extractions are super cheap compared to root canal therapies. Try again maybe? |
gaeul:Not all teeth can be restored, I wonder if you would be brave enough to take a picture of the tooth in question and post here. If you had gone to the clinic early enough, before you started having pain from the tooth, you could have filled it- and for only 5,000- 10,000, no pain and the procedure is barely 15 minutes. I have had a filling in my upper left last molar since 2016, I noticed it was always sensitive while brushing. I had it filled, I check it constantly, I have my teeth cleaned regularly too and I haven't had any issues since. If you are also not satisfied with the care you received, you can seek a second opinion- more opinions even. If you also have enough money and are willing to take a bet on that tooth, I am sure you may find a dentist that may help out (a Teaching Hospital maybe) |
Op, If you read through this thread with an unbiased mind, you will see why Nigerians usually need to have extractions eventually. Poor dental health awareness, some are even boasting about using herbs and broken down teeth that no longer hurt and one aunty was talking about removing worms. Many Nigerians don't like dental clinics for several reasons, many opt for herbs, people put petrol, aspirin, garlic and just yesterday I saw someone that put aboniki- yes aboniki in a painful tooth (and no, it didn't get better) Now root canal treatments are expensive, the cost ranges from 15,000-50,000 for one tooth and usually such teeth need to be crowned so they don't break later (a good porcelain fused to metal crown costs 35,000 and above even in Government hospitals) Tha brings the total amount for saving a tooth to about 50,000- 85,000 instead of an extraction that usually costs 5,000- 15,000 and up to 50,000 for impacted teeth. Please ask yourself, how many Nigerians can afford such? Many Nigerians argue about opening cards (just 1,500-2,000 o) Root canals pay the dentist financially, don't you think they would be more interested in doing them? The way some of you think ehn, using Nairaland as a study on the average Nigerian, it makes one almost lose hope in this country as even we the youths are not helping matters. You would expect someone misinformed or poorly informed to try to inform themselves, Google is there after all but no, not my people. We will all be alright last last. By the way, this year 2021, take better care of your mouths, see a dentist once in a while (prevention and early care save teeth- and lives), learn to brush properly as poor brushing techniques and hard bristled brushes wear the teeth down, less carbonated and sugary drinks and foods too. Help yourselves, don't expect others to save you if you are not willing to be saved |
Pearlqueen:Sorry to point it out but there is nothing like a temporary (flexible) dental implant. Options for replacing missing teeth include; 1. A removable partial denture As seen in the Ops picture. They cover part of the gum and need to be taken out every night so the gums can rest. Cost ranges from 6,000-15,000. The range is from Government to private clinics and doesn't include registration or dental x-rays. 2. A permanent dental bridge, acrylic or porcelain fused to metal bridge. These are permanent and don't cover the gums. Here, the two teeth beside the missing tooth are trimmed and a single unit of three (strong) artificial teeth are cemented in place. Acrylic dental bridges (3 unit as in your case) cost above 30,000 while the porcelain fused to metal (due to the metal substructure and porcelain cover it is both strong and near natural looking) goes from 105,000 3. A dental implant. Goes for 450,000 and above. A single implant is sunk into the bone of the missing tooth and a natural looking crown is put over it. For option 1, an impression of mouth will be taken in the clinic. No pain, no injection. It is on the cast from the impression (photo copy/image) of your mouth that the denture will be made, since we can't take your mouth to the lab. Once the denture is ready after 2-5 days, it will simply be put in your mouth and you will be taught how to care for it. It feels weird initially but the body will adapt to it over time. Options 2,3 are painless (after you have been given injections) Please check Google for images and other information. |
Woofer:Even if you were to have it repaired professionally, it still would not be as good/strong as a new one. It will only be a temporary fix. Save your time, money, energy, get a new one. If you are in Lagos, you can try Teaching Hospitals or General hospitals if cost is an issue for you. Also, when you get a new one or repair this one, take better care of it. Your denture is made from acrylic which is strong but can crack when it falls. 1. Don't bite into hard food with it 2. Whenever it is not in your mouth, put it in a small container with a very well fitting lid that won't come off easily 3. At night, place it in a small container with a very well fitting lid containing water 4. Wash your denture over a bowl of water so if it was to slip and fall from your hand, the fall will be cushioned by the water and it won't break 5. Wash it only with a soft brush (e.g the round ones used in polishing shoes- a new one obviously) and plain white unmedicated bathing soap e.g Joy soap as your regular toothbrush and toothpaste are too abrasive/harsh for it Ciao |
Op, I am sorry if some of those comments got to you. we are all different and react to things differently but the truth is this- you need to do better. I once bought from you, messaged you and we had to settle on a price eventually. Now, normally I don't do that. Once a seller doesn't include the price; on Twitter, Instagram or here, I simply avoid such posts. You are practically the only person like that I have ever bought from (and trust me, I buy a lot online) and it was because of your zeal and the way you advertised here on Nairaland. Now imagine how many people are like me out there. I don't think they were bullying you, but I won't teach you how to react. You can do better too by including prices. I hate negotiating and all that, which is why I buy online, I patronized you because of your zeal, I told you then that I buy perfume oils on Instagram. Her prices are always posted, she does regular discount sales, I don't need to start negotiating and all, I simply send her a list of what I want as I already know the prices, she adds her delivery fee. I pay for the items, get them the next day, easy! Some of those people are your potential buyers, listen to them, learn from them, no one knows everything, we are all learning. |
I am only putting this here so others can be wary of you. The matter won't be settled here, there are better places. Good night 'Rachael Felix' |

Aurora44:What about the person that sent you money for $111 today and you claimed you didn't see it and blocked his chat? Sister/brother, let me advice you; you are messing with the wrong person. The very wrong person Better turn your phone on and do the needful or explain why you disappeared, you can't run forever. That money will be retrieved from you |
You guys wear boxers and trousers/ jeans practically all day but it is panties and tights that ladies wear for some hours during the day that is your problem? You thought of this, then came online to ask and you didn't feel weird? Like, you have nothing better to do? Monitoring what females wear is what is next on your plate? No matter what a lady does or wears, na talk. 'If she is seemingly inappropriately dressed, she deserves to be groped or raped, she asked for it', 'her bum was shaking', 'o boy, see nyash.' If she wears tights nko? Oh, she's a prude, why is she wearing them, 'is it even healthy?'. The other day one guy was complaining about how he deems tights he sees under clothes distasteful. Now all of a sudden, you care about women's health because of tights? If you want to be bothered or you want to feign 'care' for females, please buy pads and distribute to young girls and females that may not be able to afford them. |
tunaguy:Please is it possible to get the address? Didn't see anything about it online. |
Guy, You are not new on Nairaland, you should know how these things go, no be by fine poster or image. We are all Nigerians ![]() If you want us to help or take you serious, please drop 'the woman's' phone number, the name of the hospital in case anyone around there can help confirm, the exact amount needed. Also, you didn't need to threaten us or add the fact that she may harm herself, it won't make many of us more empathic trust me. Also, Lammycon27 God bless you o, we see your hustle bro/sis.
