Tsiya:

What kind of logical thinking is this? Is this suppose to be a solution to stop the bomb blast or the of alienating the Northerners? This line of thinking is not for solving the Nigerian problem but rather for creating more problems

So what do you suggest or propose as a solution? In the meantime how do you propose to protect the innocent citizenry that are being caught up in this mess? What will your contribution be to the solution? Are you willing (as a patriot) to die for the Nation, and place the interest of the Nation above those of foreign religions?

form a new Nation State,"you can't have your cake and eat it too".

Only Nigerians can fix nigeria and until we troop in to the street both home and abroad to do the right thing then it will be too late when the governmen finally steps in to make the changes. Tunisia was delivered by tunisians, same with egypt and other arab countries. If you need a soverign national confenrence then let everyone troop into the street and demand it. Cripple the economy, student, teachers, workers and everyone and see if we will not have a referendrum or conference but what do u have here than just blabbing our mouth on nairaland.

Its this simple really!

I was just thinking exactly the same thing!
ShangoThor the great, I'm a little disappointed in your assessment of this man.

Yes, he did some good works at CBN, but I believe he killed a lot of flies with lots of sledge hammers.
To me, he is responsible for Nigeria's inability to take her place as THE giant of Africa economically.

His economic scoping/envisioning for Nigeria is somewhat stunted.  undecided
Given the amount of money we have been making from oil, he set us back (or stopped our forward march) by many years.

Hey onlyTruth, I'm just being honest. I beleive SLS to be intelligent, and honest in general, but I believe his Politics to be religiously biased.

Nevertheless, I believe he would be the best Northern candidate for President the North could ever gift this nation IF we make it past 2015 A.D.

For your first point Nigeria is not going to be the first secular country on earth to practice Islamic banking. The Vatican, center of Catholic Christianity, said banks should look at the rules of Islamic finance to restore confidence amongst their clients at a time of global economic crisis. This news came out in no less an authoritative outlet than the Vatican’s official newspaper L’Osservatore Romano.
In the 5th March 2009 issue of the paper, author Loretta Napoleoni and Abaxbank Spa fixed income strategist, Claudia Segre, said that “The ethical principles on which Islamic finance is based may bring banks closer to their clients and to the true spirit which should mark every financial service.” They suggested “Western banks could use tools such as the Islamic bonds, known as sukuk, as collateral”, adding that sukuk may be used to fund the “car industry or the next Olympic Games in London.”
check out this, and hope you know that Bloomberg is one of the best source for financial info: link http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=newsarchive&sid=aOsOLE8uiNOg.

And secondly he is not a politician or the c-in-c, so he needs not get involved in politics.Point of correction his being the cbn gov is representing Nigeria and not just the Northern intellectual Muslim.

Firstly, my arguments are political by nature and nowhere have I mentioned anything about Islamic Banking. Read my statements again.

Secondly, SLS is a Political and Religious commentator, and a Political writer that has churned out a vast amount of writings pertaining to discourses related to Political History and Outcomes within the Polity, it was within this context that my arguments were based.

Akanbi_edu:

Do you seriously expect him to comment bout Boko haram? You are joking, right?

No I am not joking and this is a salient point (which I hope NL'ers would be capable of debating in a mature manner).

We have to go back into history to understand how Secularism evolved and why?

The problem is that in a pluralistic country such as ours the moment the Secular nature of the Constitution is compromised and a particular group or religion is allowed to assert or interject its principles into the sphere of the Constitution, then there will always be  a possibility for certain groups or elements within that religion to overzelously assert that the principles observerd are not devout enough and hence the situation (status quo) has to be changed by revolution or violent struggle.

Secondly, SLS represents a Northern intellectual Muslim  who is both educated in Islamic Studies and Economics- (I might be wrong), which Boko Haramites misconstrue as Western education, hence actually condemning their ideology is extremely pertinent.
Politics / Re: Sanusi, The Most Intelligent Man In The Country- IMF by ShangoThor(m): 12:01am On Dec 21, 2011
Even though I accept SLS is very intelligent, and I am of the opinion that a Fashola/SLS team or vice versa would be more than capable of transforming Nigeria beyond recognition, however, I do have my reservations about his stance on a secular constitution.

It is impossible to be pro-Sharia and pro-secularism simultaneously.

Furthermore I would also like to know about his stance on the emergence of Boko Haram and their perpetration of violence. IMHO, he has made very few public utterances about this issue, unless someone on NL can further enlighten me about this issue if they have contrary information.

who's worst Nightmare ? Maybe you are blind to the nonsense they are even writing on this thread

Well my theory is that YOU and a lot of your Brethren log on to NL with multiple I.D.s pretending to be Southerners and make controversial tribal utterances because it suits you to have Southerners at each other's throats.

This strategy might work on most for now but trust me, it will not last. The Brits and Lugard ruled us via 'Divide & Conquer', and upon (allegedly) attaining Political Independence, they simply passed the baton to Norterners. This is why the fake Nation State will always malfunction, one step forward and twelve steps back.

That statement seems quite simplistic. Only a pretty serious problem will see anyone flown out of the country, only to remain for two months; the long and short is that he must have had some sort of operation or the other.

If the man had been voted into power, it would have been the beginning of another Yar Adua saga.

Exactly my sentiments too, what a joke!

Ileke-IdI:

Please stop. You're a grown azz man and this display of shameless lies won't help you or anyone.

When have you called your ppl to order? You're infact the person that instigates tribalism on here. Inciting your people to post hate-words against the Yorubas, while you do so. i remember when you used to control EzeUche like the brainless duck (no offense) he wasn't, inciting him when I've gotten his tribalism cooled down.

Where you also not the same person happily "welcoming" your "brother", Willy Willy after his usually obsessive posts against the Yorubas? Oh yea, you all still want to claim that he's not "your people".

Stop the nonsense. The charade is getting old. A fool in his 30s will be a fool in his 40s, and a fool until his inevitable death.

@ Ileke Idi

Please let it go, I accept a lot of the posters on NL feel aggrieved, and this is simply the effect of years of uncensored posting. I seriously believe that we can get beyond pointing fingers at one another. We have to strive to achieve a better outcome than our fathers generation simply because there is no other option.

One thing I do know is it is easier to destroy than to build. The harm we do to each others communities is having an extremely detrimental effect on our collective existence.

When I see pictures of Women and Children with chopped up mangled bodies in Jos or other parts of the Country, I see no tribes, no languages, just injustice.

Please we have to rise above our differences for the greater good, I humbly plead with you. This scenario is bigger than all the actors on NL put together and will affect future generations to come if we cannot rise to the task.

@ShangoThor, you know I have always respected your opinions in the past, but I have to warn you that what you are hoping to achieve may be next to impossible because of difference in value system.
However, you can continue, and I would always support you. In that effort to support you, I want to tell you a few facts about Nigeria.; historical facts.

Historically, there has NEVER been an attempt by an Igbo person to mass murder Yorubas or any other groups in Nigeria. The coup of January 1966 targeted less than 20 people -politicians and military. The coup was even adjudged "patriotic" and "nationalistic" by key Yoruba leaders like Obasanjo and Adekunle. They both acknowledge the naivety of the junior army officers who conducted the coup, but they never called it an Igbo coup, or attempted genocide. Even if there is still a debate around that coup, history records that there was no attempt to target ordinary Yoruba or other Nigerians.
Why then did Awolowo and Adekunle voice out open support to total annihilation of Igbo population through military and food blockage?
I hope you see why your mission may have to focus more on reining in your senseless brothers who still make mouth with open backstabbing and wicked treachery.

Trust is not an easy thing to gain. Treachery is always the easiest!

@ OnlyTruth

The truth is that I do not have explanations or excuses for certain events in Nigerian history because I do not know enough about them in detail.

One thing I do know is that our fathers generation has failed us miserably and we have to pick up the pieces and try to forge a consensus amongst our communities in order to face the challenge unfolding ahead of us. This is where all of the key players and personalities failed us, they have never been able to achieve or arrive at or build a consensus that could build a transcending bridge across our communities.

This has cost us dearly and we know that we were all played by the British.

All Southern communities are gifted and blessed in their own right.

Nevertheless, the big question is will our generation rise to the task at hand and manage the outcome of this unfolding War to our advantage?

Will we be audacious enough to smash the British colonial vampires plan?

If an individual rips you off because you do not have apriori knowledge about the 'facts' of the world, you have an excuse. However once you gain that knowledge you have to adapt accordingly. This is our generation and we have to strive to succeed where our fathers generation failed miserably.
