@ Beaf, Gbawe, Aigbofa et-al

I plead with you guys to Cease fire, and sheath your swords.

We need to administer your collective intelligence to guide the more vulnerable in our populace in relation to what is gradually unfolding in our Nation.

The Country is on the verge of regional warfare, so Please stop, my brothers from East, Mid-West, South-South, West and Middlebelt.

We have huge responsibilities ahead of us. Let us not end up being narcisistic and egotistical, I repeat that we have huge responsibilities ahead of us.

Our fathers generation failed us miserably, and we will do even worse if we cannot put our differences aside.

Please stop the character assasination, we need to start building bridges for the testing times that are gradually unfolding.

I am humbly begging you all.

Okay, I've read all the comments!

So it is right to conclude that

1. Islamic militants (Northern) can bomb Churches and other high profile targets and with impugnity in Northern Nigeria.

2. Islamic militants (Southern) can bomb Mosques with impugnity.

3. The State propaganda machine now disseminates false information (news) as a mind control measure of the citizenry.

Wake up people - We are at WAR!

This is not the Country I want my kids to inherit and this definitely is not the country we deserve!

It's time for a SNC, better still it's time for a U.N. Sponsored referendum to address a peaceful demarcation.
PoliticsShell, Eni Buy Nigeria Offshore Oil Field Rights for an UNDISCLOSED sum! by ShangoThor(op): 7:46pm On Dec 08, 2011
Shell, Eni buy Nigeria offshore oil field rights

Royal Dutch Shell PLC and Italian oil firm Eni SpA have purchased rights to an offshore oil field near Nigeria’s coast that could hold as much as 9 billion barrels of oil, the companies said Thursday.

The purchase ends a long dispute over who would run the field held by a company with ties to a former oil minister during the military rule of Sani Abacha, whose kleptocratic rule saw billions stolen from Nigeria. It also signals oil firms remain willing to expand in Nigeria, despite unease over a long-running debate about changing the laws that govern crude production in a nation vital to U.S. energy supplies.

The oil field sits near French oil firm Total SA’s Akpo offshore field, more than 100 miles (150 kilometers) off the coast of Nigeria’s Rivers state. Experts believe the field holds oil reserves that would put it among some of the top fields in the world.

In separate statements, Shell and Eni confirmed the purchase of the fields. Shell said the field’s production would be split 50-50 among the two companies, with Eni running the operations of the deep-water oil drilling and production.

Neither company disclosed the price it paid for the field. A spokesman for the state-run Nigerian National Petroleum Corp., which partners with foreign firms working in the country’s oil fields, did not respond to a request for comment Thursday.

The sale ends an ongoing dispute between Shell and local company Malabu Oil and Gas, which has links to former Nigerian oil minister Dan Etete who served in Abacha’s regime in the 1990s. Shell had earlier been signed to produce oil there under Malabu, but the deal fell apart and the two firms became entangled in lawsuits.

It remains unclear how the deal was brokered, but both Eni and Shell said they did not enter into any deals with Malabu Oil and Gas to close the deal. Shell also said it paid its portion of the sales price to the federal government.

The deal comes as Nigeria still considers whether to overhaul laws surrounding oil production. Debate over the Petroleum Industry Bill had caused foreign companies to hold off on new investments in Nigeria. Analysts say the petroleum bill would sharply reduce the profits of foreign oil companies like Chevron Corp., ExxonMobil Corp., Eni, Shell and Total.

Government officials say the bill would allow more oil money to return to Nigeria’s people.

However, the bill has apparently stalled after years of discussion and it remains unclear whether Nigeria’s National Assembly will be able to pass any change to the laws soon.

Nigeria, an OPEC member nation producing about 2.4 million barrels of crude oil a day, is a top supplier to the U.S.

Production in the country picked up in recent years after a government-sponsored amnesty deal brought many militants in the region out of its winding creeks. However, thefts from oil pipelines have grown drastically and some ex-fighters have become disenchanted with the amnesty

If this info is correct, how the hell does one purchase the rights to an Offshore oil field in Nigeria for an undisclosed sum? With such deals occurring how do we guarantee that palms aren't being lubricated?

PoliticsRe: No North, No Nigeria -gowon by ShangoThor(m): 2:53pm On Dec 06, 2011
Gowon is an enemy of Reason and Progress. Gowon remains 'A Grand Over-Seer', 'A Chain-gang Master' of this estate, this territory which was formed by the British Colonial vampires, whose task is/was to keep the status-quo intact at any cost and to maintain our tenant-esq status within it.

Note that he does not emphasize or discern constitutional rights such as the Citizens right to security or freedom from persecution or even choice.

Africans (Nigerians) think they are free, the freedom they think they have is based on the Sovereignty of the State, and this is the 'Grand Illusion'. The Sovereignty of the State is severely restricted to maintaining the Status Quo and order by any means necessary and distributing financial crumbs. This is why the apparatus of State has specialized in efficiently and brutally slaughtering sections of the population that resist this set up.

Most of the Nigerian Bourgeois are brainwashed 'Uncle Toms', because even though they know the truth they lack the courage and conviction to change the status quo. These 'Uncle Toms' implicitly and explicitly reinforce the notion that the 'Black African is childlike and thus lack the sophistication to make choices pertaining to the constitution of the territories of the State, and the living conditions within the State, hence we remain tenants within the polity.

Like them or loathe them, that is what Boko Haram represents. A true challenge to the legacy of the colonial vampires. I believe that they do have a right to 'self determination' just like other regions and I wish them luck, even though I don't completely agree with their methods.

It is extremely important that we produce super intelligent leaders that will not only challenge this 'status quo' but will push towards pre-colonial notions of communal Sovereignty in a bid to forge a more inclusive Nation State after demarcation.

Gowon himself is a big failure, the Queens Poodle, a member of our Fathers generation that completely failed this Nation.

The sooner we get a U.N. sponsored referendum the better. Let the people exercise their 'birth-right', give them a choice.

Right on point! I have made these arguments on NL time and time again!

Some NL posters jest at these issues but have the audacity to complain about other ethnicities, or the State of accountability in the State and Economy, but little do they know that you can't build a solid functional house on shakey foundations. Nigeria is the Devil's lair, there is something inherently evil about this artificially created Nation State of ours.

lanre_front:
firstly, let me say the minister's assertion is true. Infact it's not just about devaluation. Everything that is wrong with Nigeria today started during the administration of GEJ's adopted father. He practically legalised and laid the foundation for Corruption as we see it today.

But having said this, I really don't see the point of the minister bringing that fact up now. It's a lame excuse for non-performance of today's goverment; that is GEJ's goverment.
I also concur. Prior to IBB's regime, Nigeria was never recognized in the world as a 3rd World Country. We were always refered to by the international community as a 'Developing' country with great prospects.

There were loads of people that had their entire wealth wiped out in days. Where was the wisdom in that. Those from the diaspora that began returning to develop the Fatherland, that sold their homes and investments in the West to invest in the economy were hit extremely hard.

Why were the citizens not given a choice of investing their savings in Gold prior to devaluation, does anybody understand how wealthy Nigeria would have ended up. But no, the Naira is now worthless to the point that it cannot be spent in any developed country, it's as worthless as monopoly money or even worse, as Toilet paper.

Muritala, and even Buhari would never have agreed to devalue the Naira, so the big questions for me are -

1. Who are those that got extremely rich from the devaluation? These individuals, the Judas Iscariot class deserve being assassinated. The individuals that had prior knowledge of the devaluation. These are the real traitors for all the misery and pain they've caused.

2. Did foreign global financial interests or institutions pay certain individual actors to seal the deal?

3. Who are those that currently object or oppose any move to rectify the situation.

These people need to be shot!

I Told Odumegwu- Ojukwu To Apologise Over Civil War, Says Obasanjo

FORMER President Olusegun Obasanjo yesterday disclosed that he discussed the possibility of an expression of remorse from the late Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu “on the Nigerian civil war which in itself was a culmination of actions and reactions.”

http://ngrguardiannews.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=69131:i-told-odumegwu-ojukwu-to-apologise-over-civil-war-says-obasanjo-&catid=1:national&Itemid=559
OBJ needs to think carefully before making such utterances considering how sensitive the topic is! How about the FG issuing an apology for dereliction of its duties to serve and protect all of its citizens from persecution and ethnic cleansing.

The most apt part of his statement is highlighted above.

How would I REACT if my people, innocent civilians were being slaughtered en masse and the FG could not guarantee protection and security?
What would be my reaction to the ethnic cleansing of my people in a different region of the country?

This is the question we all have to objectively address.

The bottom line is Ojukwu was a mere mortal, a man, thus he was capable of good heroic acts and also mistakes! That's human nature.

However, we still keep on skipping fundamental issues that would guarantee the rise of the BLACK Race. The issues of Sovereignty and being able to formulate systems of Governance that will yield Super Intelligent Leaders that will act in the interest of the masses.

The numerous Ethnic communities that make up the Polity signed their sovereignty away to a foreign Power, the British who in turn formed a Nation State out of their territories and forced them into a Union in a bid to further their economic interests and extend their sphere of influence in perpetuity.

My point is that until Africans (defined as: the various Ethnic communities that comprise these artificially formed Nation States in general) can really participate in unconstrained dialogue and discourse about the nature of their living space they will always remain in a "CHILD LIKE STATE" crawling on all four limbs and never being able to stand and walk tall.

Obviously, the main implication being that Africans lack the intelligence required to achieve the necessary results.

My big problem with Political (some also Military) actors such as OBJ, IBB, Buhari, ABACHA, etc is that they all represent a chip of the the old block. They do not acknowledge that African intelligensia is required to instill a sense of ownership in our Nation State, after all we are all meant to be stakeholders. They have fostered and instilled the idea of 'Government without obligation or responsibility', not to talk about lack of accountability. 41 years later, the FG still cannot protect all citizenry from persecution and being hacked to death by mob violence, whether we view events that occured after the last elections or certain hot spots such as Jos amongst others

A cultural revolution is seriously required in Nigeria that will address these issues. A cultural revolution that focuses on prioritizing high living standards and existentialist notions above all foreign religions, foreign influences. Afterall a massive population is only beneficial if it is productive and creative, otherwise what we will be lumbered with is a Nation State that views its citizenry as a "CASH COW", only fit for extortion.

PoliticsRe: The Black Race: The Curse ?(part 2) by ShangoThor(m): 1:38am On Nov 28, 2011
Absolute tosh, there is no curse it is just an excuse.

My generalization about Black Africans is that our Societies in general and the majority of our people(s) lack objectivity, in particular are non scientific and have a fundamental problem when it comes to following rules.

We have not been able to devise systems of governance that yield super intelligent rulers. We basque in mediocrity. We focus on crumbs (petty differences) instead of focusing on the massive pie.

Some might discern low IQ as the issue but this does not mean that there are masses of Black individuals with high IQ's in existence across the globe. The bottom line is that there will always be exceptions (flukes) to the rule.

My big question is, how many super intelligent rulers have we had in the Nation State of Nigeria in 51 years? And I'm not talking about military rule neither. If a leader came along that was sincere and argued that he wanted to rectify the malfunctioning State in his manifesto, most Nigerians would primarily focus on his/her religion, region, ethnicity.

I think we already have laws that sufficiently address the punishments necessary for crimes of corruption. The problem, if I am not mistaken, has always been with the enforcement and implementation of those laws.
Precisely, it's the system of ACCOUNTABILITY that is the issue and furthermore this is a bi-product of the Malfunctioning State. If we can fix the State we will be able to fix the problem. However, we will never be able to fix the the Malfunctioning State because since it's inception and the formation of the Polity by way of amalgamation, religious and regional considerations have trumped the 'common good'.

Corrupt individual actors have been able to exploit this scenario.
PoliticsRe: Army Ready To Defend Unity Of Nigeria – Ihejirika by ShangoThor(m): 7:43pm On Nov 25, 2011
Ridiculous!

This is how events will escalate. Boko Haram will get more audacious and they will eventually commit an atrocity of immense proportions to the extent that it will rock the very foundations of the FAKE Nation State, perhaps a high profile assasination. then the Army will employ brutal force like they always do in retaliation, perhaps intensify the slaughtering of thousands of Citizens in the North.

Then factions will develop within the Army and the Islamic Northern Soldiers will assasinate the Chief of Army Staff, wage Jihad against the rest of the Army in a bid to purge the main Actors of the misdirected CRUSADE by infidels agaianst the Moslem population.

Does the CHIEF of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Azubuike Ihejirika think he is untouchable? He will be discerned, as the main scapegoat, after all, it isn't as if Ethnic Cleansing is a foreign concept in the history of the Nigerian Army.

PoliticsRe: If Nigeria Should Disintegrate : The Inevitable Consiquencies; Let's Unite by ShangoThor(m): 8:04pm On Nov 24, 2011
Though insightful, the author of this article misses the main point. The magic "WE", which I assume he means the citizenry of the polity cannot hold the Nation State together, it's the apparatus of the State and it's propensity to employ organised violence and coercion that can achieve that objective. Nevertheless, as previously discussed, in countless threads on NL and beyond, what happens if the State is not up to the challenge? This is the crux of the matter.

I believe like I have stated in the past and on so many occasions that the State we have is malfunctioning and our inability to rectify its inadequacies will eventually lead to its demise. I believe the religious and overly zealous driven Islamic militants of the North will eventually overwhelm the State in the North and if the Southern part of the Nation State is completely unprepared for this eventuality then we will end up as sitting ducks to their aggression.

This is the main reason why we have to put our differences aside in the SOUTH in a bid to further cooperate with regards to mechanisms such as a U.N. Sponsored referendum regarding separation or demarcation and even a SNC. This is the only way to limit bloodshed.

sadiq88:
Millions of northern Muslims already share Boko Haram’s abhorrence for Western education, which is why they only send their children to Quranic schools (Tsangiya) that breed hundreds of thousands of potential Islamist recruits. Notice how support for Boko Haram initially snowballed among some disgruntled malcontents, before the recent massive security crackdown,

Moderate Northern Muslims will attempt to battle such extremism, but they will fail. For one thing most of the educated “moderate” Muslims do not have the same stomach for violence as the martyrdom-seeking Islamists who look forward to screwing 72 virgins in Al-Jannah – Islamic heaven.
PoliticsRe: Can Nigeria Become A Developed Country? by ShangoThor(m): 8:45pm On Nov 22, 2011
Actually, Nigeria has regressed since the 80s!

The big problem is apart from being downright selfish and self interested about the human condition in the entirety of the polity, the various peoples that make of the Citizens of the Country do not care enough about it.

One can only solve problems and various challenges by being completely OBJECTIVE about them whilst assessing them and acting accordingly, and this is not evident in Nigeria. This main fact is the 'Killer APP' in the Caucasians armoury.

The Nigerian populace is constituted by various inwardly looking peoples that do not understand that there are those amongst them (the Judas Iscariot Class) that would sell them out or exploit them for a PRICE! They permeate tribes, clans, regions and even families. This is Nigerian mentality, where sections in the populace would be envious of ordinary folk being able to afford or purchase consumables like IPads, Iphones, Blackberries etc. We seem to celebrate poverty, or the fact that others (the masses) are down trodden.

Furthermore, this is also a country where people were hacked to death because they were agents of the electoral commission, and where babies, and women get hacked to death in the middle of the night because they live in a conflict area such as Jos and the populace show indifference, we might talk a lot to condemn the actions (btw some even poke fun at these incidents), but we are expected to return to business and subconsciously people wait for the next recurrence of such savagery.

Moreover, how many successful, developing countries have partially Secular (or non-Secular) Constitutions? A Pluralistic Country which was artificially created needs a level playing field for the plural and competing interests within the polity and until we understand such a simple rule which has evolved through hundreds of years via the formation of the Modern day state, we will continue to deceive ourselves and be stuck in OUR 'semi-archaic' mode.

Lets face it, we have to get civilized first before we can get developed!

I must admit this is the most hilarious thread I've seen for a long time, and I'm referring to the arguments that have erupted, absolutely priceless, LOL.

On the other hand, the only way I can see such a vehicle with bi-directional transmission being useful is if there are two, separate cock-pits or cabins on the truck to control the directions of travel. Such a truck could be useful on very narrow roads going up mountainous regions or where truck drivers cannot physically turn the truck around.

Nevertheless, what's important when talking about inventions that I’ve noticed Nigerians in particular conveniently miss out is if there was a patent taken out on the invention, and the answer is always NO! It is very important for Africans to note the difference between 'Inventions' and 'Improvisations'.

What makes it even more tragic is that those touting wars on NL are mainly all firmly ensconced in their diasporan nations. When chaos begin, you will not even be able to tempt them to come to Nigeria for $5 million !!!! I personally resent that sort of irresponsible behaviour.

Your last paragraph is sublime. It is the solution those who live in Nigeria , or have a stake in the Country, should pursue. It would also be far more effective than any neanderthal descent into armed conflict where, as usual, the cannon-fodders (ordinary Nigerians) get butchered while the ruling elite , and real cause of the problem, still get their way in the end.
The bottom line is that as indigenous African populations or communities, we did not have a say in the formation of the Nation States we have been enclosed in. Until this is rectified, we will always be slaves to external interests such as Caucasians, Arabs, and now Indians and Chinese.

Mark my words, we will never know true freedom as we are  or will eternally be subjugated by mental slavery and the very corrupt actors amongst us.

The problem is that the African Islamic communities in our midst are too indoctrinated by their religion to realize the above stated fact in order to put Africans first.

To those advocating the setup of a SNC, there is more chance of that happening after a positive result from a U.N. sponsored referendum addressing our partition.

Northerners are entitled to self determination, and practising Sharia, but so are other communities and other faiths and that is why most modern Nation States have secular constitutions. The minute you go down the road of a non-secular constitution there are always going to be factions within your religion that want to advocate or further pursue their own interests.

In such a scenario, history informs us that it is an internal affair and it is best resolved by the Islamic community themselves. In other words you have to act as checks and balances against those of your faith that choose to act outside the law or engage in non-constitutional measures in order to assert their goals. However, those practicing your faith have no right to commit atrocities such as the murder with impunity against those of other faiths or to bomb Churches, places of worship of Christians.

The hypocrisy is that yes BH are also killing a lot of Muslims but I've never heard of them bombing any Mosques.

The bottom line is go and live in your own private space and I wish you luck and prosperity, but I do not want to live as neigbours with you constantly having to watch my back, and neither is it right for you to feel you have the right to subjugate other communities in the fake Nation we have been forced into.
