Revealed: Victims of Xmas Day bombings LEADERS of St. Theresa’s Church, Madalla, near Abuja, have begun the grim but necessary task of listing the dead in Sunday’s suicide bombing. The toll has risen from 26 to 32, it was learnt yesterday. Some of the dead are: Paul Ehis (St. Theresa’s security worker); Joseph Igbla (Just admitted at IBB University); Williams Dike (an oil trader who died with his three children); Inspector Titus Eze (police officer); Sgt. Kadiri Danjuma (policeman); Chioma Obiukwu (student); Ifeoma Obiukwu (student); Uchechukwu Obiukwu (student); Chidinma Obiukwu; Francis Maduka; Jennifer Maduka; and a one year old child. The names of the other victims were not immediately known yesterday. The cleric in charge of the church, the Very Rev. Isaac Achi, said yesterday”: “So far, as at Monday, we can confirm 22 dead, including our church members, motorcyclists and some Muslims, who were probably passing by. “I am going to the hospitals to take stock of the situation. Thereafter, I can still brief you on the casualty figures. “We still have many parishioners, who were injured, in the hospital. We are preoccupied with how to give them the best medical attention.” On those killed, Rev. Achi said: “We intend to give them mass burial, but we have not decided the date. We will make it public when we are ready for the burial. “We want those in hospitals to be stable or to have considerably recovered before the mass burial.” As at last night, the church was busy compiling the list of the dead, those injured in various hospitals and carrying out an inventory of houses/property destroyed. A church worker, simply referred to as Modestus, was conducting the inventory, in collaboration with some NEMA officials, led by Mr. Ishaya Chinoko. Modestus said: “We are still compiling the list of victims, the injured and items destroyed by the explosions. I cannot give you any exact figure now.” The church has opted for a mass burial for the victims, but the cleric in charge of the Parish, the Very Rev. Isaac Achi, yesterday said no date has been fixed. Also yesterday, it was learnt that 17 Boko Haram suspects behind the Boko Haram (western education is a sin) bombings in Damaturu, Yobe State have been flown to Abuja. All the suspects are being kept in an isolated cell by the Police under heavy security. Some of them, it was gathered, have admitted their involvement in the killing of an Assistant Commissioner of Police (Operations), Ibrahim Abubakar and the Officer-in-Charge of the Mobile Police Unit in Yobe State, Superintendent Kabir Musa. Rescue agencies have deposited 32 bodies of the Christmas Day bombing at the State House Clinic, Gwagwalada Specialist Hospital, and National Hospital morgues in Abuja. More than 40 others are being attended to in three referral hospitals. There is a high demand for blood transfusion. A source in the National Emergency Management Agency, who spoke in confidence, said: “Although we will prefer the hospitals managing and releasing the figures, I can tell you that we were able to deposit 32 bodies in three hospitals. We have the records. “You will recall that on Monday, we rolled out an official figure of 26, but this is the situation as at Tuesday. “There are many lying critically ill in some hospitals and the government is doing its best to give them adequate care. “I believe there is hope for the living victims with better care as it is now.” The last members of suspected Boko Haram bombers in Yobe were ferried into Abuja on Monday. Although two more suspects were apprehended in Yobe, they have not been brought to Abuja. Those in custody are in detention in an isolated cell under Police custody. A source said: “We have put them in an isolated cell under heavy security surveillance. We made sure that none of them mingles with other detainee and they have no access to cell phones. “The interrogation of the suspects by SARS Unit is ongoing. Some of the suspects have admitted involvement in the killing of some top police officers in Yobe. “We are looking beyond routine interrogation. We want to get to the roots of the bombings. After preliminary interaction with them, other agencies might also be involved. It is going to be a comprehensive investigation.” Also, a fresh manhunt has been launched for what a source described as the new leader of Boko Haram, who is simply called Jafar. The source said: “We are after Jafar who has relocated to Yobe State where he has established some bomb factories and a military base to launch attacks against innocent souls. “The manhunt has started. We are already reaching out to neighbouring countries like Niger and Chad to collaborate with us in this regard. “We have it on good authority and from intelligence gathering that Jafar is now leading this deadly sect.” http://www.thenationonlineng.net/2011/index.php/news/31356-revealed-victims-of-xmas-day-bombings.html |

Buhari is not the president today but if he was there would have been no boko haram, the core-northerners feels Gej is using their space according to the PDP's eight years arrangement btw the north & south,GEJ's rigging antics too hasn't helped neither. For those saying buhari is the answer, he was there in the eighties and did nada, he was the northern version of Gej, the only diff. being the quality of deputy he had, his second in command was more active enough. |
Nchara:we all know how PDP rigged the election in the west and beyond, it was the rigging of election from GEJ that provoked the april riot in kano, GEJ has exhausted a good part of our foreign reserve($30b) on his presidential aspiration and accrued $40b of debt, now he is bringing oil subsidy removal to anger a volitile north further, infact i dont blame the OP fore his views at all . . . . . . The north av been in control our defence structure for decades Gej knew that and he couldn't come up with a sensible plan to win the election without provocation. Even with the lessons of 1966 provocation and its counter-provocation that led to a war were the ibos lost still fresh in our memory. I hope some pple come down on their pride and ego and admit their wrong for this nation to move forward. No one is above mistake but refusal to admit it has always proven to be a bigger mistake . . . . . . God help us. |

I see nigerians revolt against govt subsidy removal & corruption. |
paragonpro:the idea here is to counter the highlighted effects of govt, if only the govt can allow the crude be processed by SMSEs the second link i pasted there clearly states that local crude meant for internal usage is totally free. The only cost we shld be burdened with is that of getting it refined and back to the pumps. |
Have u gone through the link i pasted? especially the first one which is short and precise enough. I am not here to make anyone look wrong but to reason and see how this idea can ever be achieved. In ur post u didnt mention where the refineries that operate on large scale get profits from. the main difference i see is between their profitability come from their "Economy of scale". According to the second link there (Though quite long) the govt will make more profit if the crude is sold at international market value however the idea of SMSEs refinery is still tempting when u look at its potential to decentralize our cabals and create job as well as completion. May be u need to look up how oil drilling is handled in Nigeria also. As for u claim about me knowing nothing about international oil market, the ultimate aim of the politics of the market is to maximize profits, i believe the Nigerian Govt should be ready to sacrifice oil profits for the sake of its populace having a strong economy and transparency on the long run. |
this link gives a breakdown of crude oil by products: http://www.txoga.org/articles/308/1/WHAT-A-BARREL-OF-CRUDE-OIL-MAKES For more clue u can go through this, quite long though: http://www.cp-africa.com/2011/12/24/fuel-subsidy-how-the-real-cost-of-nigerian-petrol-shows-that-there-is-no-fuel-subsidy/ |
paragonpro:paragonpro ur argument is highly flawed because of the bold part. From my findings crude oil from oil wells are not directly sold at global oil prices of $100 as claimed but go at a lower rate that leaves profit margin for those who choose to refine themselves. and as a matter of fact they get more volume of products thereby leaving the refiners with processing gain as against ur 60% assumption. don't forget the commons u claimed as less profitable can be aggregated and processed centrally or sold out to Co like The Eleme Petrochemical plant who already run on profits. |
^^ thanks alot 4 that . . . . . Very well said. |
@Triaophant i know the NNPC has resorted to importing fuel, what i really need is now is whether govt sells crude to NNPC at $100/barrel, i heard they get 445,000 (445k barrel is the total capacity of local refinery put together in full operation.) barrel/daily for minimal cost. They info seems to be one big secret and is hard to confirm from any reliable source for now. I tried NNPC site, they av good info but i cant find this particular info. |
Posters, I really want appreciate all ur efforts thus far as i believe no one is above learning or mistakes. The idea is still being debated. Pls i will like to know, how much does the federal govt sell crude to our local refinery? I thought they give the 445,000 barrel meant for local refineries out at $0/barrel because it is targetted at local consumption. I am asking to be sure because every poster seem to be going by the assumption that every barrel of our crude oil goes out or is sold at global crude oil price of around $100barrel. |
Ronalmagic:pls can u xplain how u got the above figures or give us its source. I find it hard to believe |
@op, one factor i would av like to u to use in ur proposal is the religious components of the core-north and north at large, the northern muslims av oppressed and victimised their christian bros for long and i think u can use that as well in favour of ur idea. We also have the pleateau and southern kaduna who are mostly muslims among the core-north so i think it will be wise to use the oppressed among them to favour ur proposal. |
We all know how Gej bought his way to power by bribing the 'bribable' from his opponents stronghold along with his sympathizers in the south. The northerners who r angry with the election results knows Gej can't bribe his way on security issues, the man openly rigged the election and the core-north radicals/sympathizers (like those kano youth of april) av taken to boko haram tactics for their revenge mission they culdn't complete in april. GEJ's election antics is largely responsible for the increased anger in the north. The man rigged Pdp primary as well and has made so much enemies within PDP, enemies who r untouchable because of party they belong to. |
There is nothing bad in it, It is called some New old-train. The same way Okrika clothe is better than unclothedness thats how used-train is to treking. Most of these pple crying already use tokunbo cars except someone is trying to make fun of Lagos in reference to the train being purchased in the east (ENUGU)then i see no basis for complain here. |
This is the result of a system failure. If the recently launched satelites had earth-image capturing features, then i believe by now, we shld be capturing images of these BH prone towns and tracing the origin of cars and bikes used in these attacks back to building they came from & picking up real suspects that can crack BH web down, it is unfortunate to see Gej focused on subsidizing a corrupt govt at the expense of security, |
OkparaIgbo:u shld know that the Igbos embrace catholic more and stop shifting it to anoda tribe. The church in question is catholic. May the souls of the dead rest in peace. |
https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria?topic=828858.msg9800416#msg9800416 Above is a link that clearly states the case of a refinery whose capacity has increased to 1000bpd from a lower capacity. Extract: The Chief Executive Officer of Niger Delta Exploration and Production Plc, Dr. ‘Layi Adetona, said the refinery, which had an initial capacity of 1,000 barrels of crude per day, now produces 120,000 litres of diesel per day, using crude oil from the company's Ogbele Flow station. As for the Remnant of the refining process, I believe they can be accumulated and sold to petrochemical co. for further processing. |
paragonpro:Now that's totally wrong because many refineries with capacity lower than 100,000 bpd exist, illegal refiners in Niger Delta even use thanks with capacity less than 6barrel/day, And they r making profits. If the gains are invested into it properly, i believe the sky is the limit. As 4 the minister's point i consider it a ploy to drive her subsidy removal point home. She is not being honest at all so lets leave her claims and reasoning out of this as much as possible. The guiding target here should be how to heat up as much crude as possible and collect its precipitate while keeping it safe and simple. |
^^^I believe every business has its challenges and every of those challenges has a solution. A routine test carried out regularly and randomly shld deter pple from such practises as is the case with pure water business and boreholes, dont 4get pure water business has lots of similarities with this idea:it is a decentralised form of water resources ministry when u consider it products. It has proven to be financially rewarding and it has taken lots of pressure off the more centralised water resource ministry. |
To put a stop to Fuel Subsidy Misery facing us please join hands with me and let's brainstorm on the idea of small scale refineries here: https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-832026.0.html#msg9829636 Thank You. |
To put a stop to the likes of trafigura and co please join hands with me and let's brainstorm on the idea of small scale refineries here: https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-832026.0.html#msg9829636 |
Fellow Nlders, I have been brainstorming for some time now about our oil subsidy and cabal-hijacked refineries issue. While brainstorming, the idea of SMSEs refineries struck me, What about giving out license out to small business and allow them run a small refinery as well as Promote them. This should be possible because the process of refining Crude oil is more or less fractional distillation, the difference with this proposed method and the traditionally bigger ones is that it operates at a smaller scale compared to conventional ones which operates at industrial scale. Fractional distillation as i was taught in elementary chemistry is separation of mixture of liquid by heating it to extract its constituent liquid at their various BP where they escape out. If Illegal oil refiners can do it in the creeks of Niger Delta, why not allow legal business run such. We can debate its feasibility and advantages here for a start. Don't forget it will bring about decentralization of oil refining and could be a life-saver in war situations where main refineries can be targeted easily, also it could mean the beginning of practice that will allow small capital business grow into large scale refineries and and Nigeria could be a future Oil refining hub in Africa in the long run. Some factors i thought of were power supply, location of business and availability of raw materials, skill requirement and safety regulations and guidelines amongst others. Please i will like NLders to reason with me one this one, What are steps the can bring such practices to fruition? |
Donalds N:most of ur claims i find highly questionable but this one below is beyond this physical world: 1 megawatt cost N1 trillion, so after 4 years of saving 5.2trillion max there will be additional 6 megawatt max added . . . Pls check those figures properly especially the 1mw - N1tr part, if valid then Gej Govt is a demonic one and no one shld argue for him ever . . . . . |
