By 1959, cocoa had become Nigeria's biggest single foreign exchange earner. Nigeria also claimed the title of being one of the three biggest producers of groundnuts in the world.
Onlytruth:
Yes I can support it because it is the truth.
BEFORE cocoa and groundnuts ever came into the picture, there was OIL PALM which the British companies traded for many years and found it too irresistible that they formed a company around it. That company effectively became Nigeria later. Anyone who does not understand this, knows nothing about Nigeria and why the British are doing what they are doing in Nigeria.
Pls can u support ur claim with reference that can be verified.

Cocoa was our major earner in agriculture and tin was the main mineral that supported developement of our main infrastructures.

Beaf:
There is no point in telling lies. Just google "oil rivers protectorate."
If you do that conscientiously, you will quickly find that palm oil is the reason Nigeria exists. The SE/SS have always been the mainstay of the Nigerian economy.

When you are done googling "oil rivers protectorate," turn you attention to googling "Royal Niger Company."

At the end of the exercise you would have learnt enough not to post trash and lies.
beaf i followed ur instructions in ur post above and it says Royal Niger Company was into palm oil.
So u can come down this low. I pity ur followers and ur Employer.

@ sheygay
Go and read your post, it does 't make sense.

some urchins in this tread are accusing SE/SS of tribalism. lets look at it objectively.

they are bombing and protesting to destroy GEJ administration because he is not from the north and he is not a Muslim. this is the height of tribalism brothers.
now they want to hide under subsidy, whereas their true intention
is to ruin this administration. They ruled for almost 40yrs and all they left behind was massive corruption,Economic and infrastructural decay.
NOW SOME ALMEJERIS ARE SUDDENLY BECOMING PATRIOTIC

we in SE/SS say no, give him chance to carry out his economic transformation,  Truly no leader takes two yrs to achieve any meaningful progress.

PLEASE BROTHERS, NO PROTEST IN SE AND SS
ur posts are getting senseless by the minute bros, Gej is part of Pdp and agreement should be honoured, the man is not suppose to be there by mutual agreement btw southerners and Northerners in PDP. If it does not go down well i hope u guys wont blame the S-Westerners this time around.
PoliticsRe: Death Toll Rises to 8 ( CNN ) ,Others Wounded In Nigeria Gombe Church Attack by sheyguy: 10:44am On Jan 06, 2012
Few days ago a random attack was carried out and the only casualty was a girl hit by stray bullet, why is it that anytime there is an attack that has a chance of affecting muslim population it always fail or only results to minimal destruction of the victimshuh
Few days ago they made the picture of "who is battling who" clearer when they issued an ultimatum to all christians(more appropraitely all non core-northerners) to leave the North.

NIGERIANS OPEN UR EYES, THE TARGETS OF BOKO HARAM ARE THE TRADITIONAL ENEMIES OF THE CORE-NORTHERNERS, THE CORE-NORTHERNERS ARE MAD AT GEJ AND THEY AV CHOSEN TO MAKE THEIR POINT WITH THE LIVES OF THEIR TRADITIONAL ENEMIES.

One of the daftest post of the century.
Why is Gej the president today when he belongs to a party that has an agreement  which translates to a Northerner being in that seat currently. U can try hard but u can only fool your type all the time.
PoliticsRe: There Is Gold In Iperindo (kwara), Anka (zamfara) Should Nigeria Subsidise Gold? by sheyguy: 9:40pm On Jan 05, 2012
I av traced the loophole in the logic of this thread back to SLS's argument about the govt subsidizing consumption and need to move to subsidizing production.
What he failed to realize or was trying to hide was the fact that most of the petrol consumption going on today are consumption that help pple stay productive. For those using it on thier car they need to get somewhere important, and for household use via genset they use it to achieve things like studying, blending of foodstuff, and attending to extra workload.
Things like gold and wood beaf mentioned are not as pressing as petrol and are not as used frequently. In summary no single item listed by beaf is as Influential as petrol for the average Nigerian who live on under two dollars/day.
PoliticsRe: Another Bomb Blast In Maiduguri Despite State Of Emmergency! by sheyguy: 8:55pm On Jan 05, 2012
Gbawe:
In my opinion, GEJ has nothing to do with these bombings per se. He just cannot bring the most powerful sponsors (members of his PDP Party and previous pals) to book because , deep down, he feels they are justified to be mad at him. He knows what he has done mainly to include accepting a 'poisoned chalice' from the treacherous duo of OBJ and Anenih.

We saw how so many from his Party , almost at the point of tears, swearing that GEJ signed up to and gained from zoning. All these people consistently insisted that GEJ was wrong to go against a gentleman's agreement his treacherous mentor (OBJ) enjoyed uninterrupted for 8 years. They kicked that this is OBJ's 'third term' by proxy. They warned GEJ also of "consequences".
I personally don't like care those guys , since they are all selfish and only interested in their pocket and "business as usual", but the venom in their condemnation of GEJ and the actions of GEJ that confirms he is decietful and a liar (NLC recently for example) implies that this is a case of some fighting GEJ because they feel he does not understand the notion of "honour amongst thieves".

As I have always stated several times, I cannot take side when two evil sides angling for the selfish control of our commonwealth fight each other. What I condemn is how they are using Boko Haram against ordinary Nigerians. These wicked folks should face each other directly and leave Nigerians be.
Thanks Mr.Gbawe, u r too much, in fact u pass them all pata pata.
I tried telling them in this forum many times but they wouldn't listen. The bolded parts in your post highlights my theory and stance on Boko Haram.
I hope our SS/SE brothers realise what they are doing by over-sympathizing with GEJ. The earlier they stop trying to justify their past mistakes the better for them. Like i always say "anyone charging forward but is looking backward is an accident waiting to happen". I see alot of similarities between the present happenings and that of 1966. I hope it does not get worse than it is.

Goldcon:
I think what my people (Niger Delta) should continue to protest seriously is the long years of exploitation by the other regions. They should fight for TRUE FEDERALISM AND RESOURCE CONTROL. Them we will all see what will become of all these other state govts dat are lazing about, relying solely on Abuja/oil monthly sharing.

Then i believe the protest in these other regions/states will be for a different reason, and not subsidy removal.

Most of the SW and a few other states can survive (at least averagely) without oil allocation cos they have agriculture, human capital etc. but the SS CANNOT survive without oil. because agriculture has been damaged by oil exploration and the govt has not made the best of the oil wealth in creating other sources of income. So what happens to us in the SS when this oil finishes.
@1st bolded.
There was resource control b4 the full exploration of oil and the SS/SE benefited from other pple's wealth on the average or were 'parasites' as beaf and co would say to the other regions (west especially), in fact it is one of urs who agitated for continuation of that system and by extension one Nigeria.

@second bolded part
u shld read up the history of tin minning in Nigeria and see how every region got treated well with wealth from the pleteau region, the location of tin minning r in bad shape today and is useless, but we dont see them kidnapping white workers in that region. The SS/SE should learn to accomodate other pple.
Dont forget OBJ gave u guys 13% of ur oil revenue back and NDDC. What has the Gej u r defending blindly done or plan to do for the SS/SE, if u guys feel cheated why not use Gej's influence and increase it to say 40% or more, open ur eyes and realize what is unfolding in Nigeria, Gej is sitting in Aso rock using the North's presidential slot according to PDP internal arrangement and most of his policies r meant to appease them. The petrol subsidy is one of the few benefits that gets to the average Nigerian realiably.
PoliticsRe: Occupy Nigeria: Armed Police Attack Protesters At Night In Kano by sheyguy: 10:13am On Jan 05, 2012
Gej and his army can try hard to divide us along the ethnic line, it wont work in favour of him and his pple.
He shld man up and procecute the cabals and lets reverse the oil subsidy to the days of N200b/year.
N200B/yr of subsidy wont kill the economy if the pay and allowance his Govt has not killed it of all this while.
After that he can the think of taking it to N90 or N100/LTR to reduce the N200b+ yearly load on the govt.

What makes u think they not made their anger known to the LGAs and State Govt. ?
The oil price they are expressing their displeasure over is controlled at federal level, Power supply which they use a good part of these petrol is a mess from the federal level.
The states and LGAs does not generate and distribute power and they can't provide all roads their pple do need.

chima12:
There are no protests in SS/SE.People in these zones have accepted fuel subsidy in good faith as a prelude to resource control.Whoever claims there is any protest in edo state is a liar. The parasites benefiting from this fuel subsidy and fake federalism in nigeria are SW and core north. These internet protest mobilizers[from SW and core north ] are simply looking for a group to join them and become the scape goat for their failing/failed protests but they will not find any. When Odi in SS was being destroyed and people being killed under a civilian administration by a southwesterner, where were these protesters?
When civilians were being killed in the North in the Name of BH did we see any protest, ur silly question abt odi there does not ask why policemen were killed in that community, just like ur SE brothers U guys killed pple (policemen) mainly from other regions blaming them for doing nothing while parading it as another revolution sort of, and when they put u guys to where u rightly belong u guys start shouting 'injustice'.
You can try hard to make it look political but truth remains the petrol subsidy removal policy is affecting everyone whether u r a trader who sells fake goods or u vandalize pipelines for a living.
The earlier u realize and admit the truth the better for you and your people.

As for our reps, the mistake was done long time ago by whoever approved such a pay for them, it is never easy to take away that kinda awuf from pple of their calibre . . . I hope it plays out in favour of the common man cos N141/ltr is no joke.
Maybe in a bid to calm the wave of public outcry threatening their pay they will oppose subsidy removal.

most great nations of the world are not great because they have oil and gas.

Pple will always oppose Removal of subsidy as long as the govt cant provide things like power for them . . . . The govt is only after its selfish interest . . . .that's why they will follow the IMF's advice when they know most Nigerians use petrol gen for their power needs in workplace and in their homes all in the absense of good and fuel saving transport system like train.
