aribisala0:Section 137 (1) (g) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended). Why should your so-called People’s Constitution make one rule for appointees and another for elected officers? Are they not all Public Servants? Anyway, that’s what happens when a Constitution is just foisted on the people without debate. It may be understandable if the elected persons are seeking second term in office but not when they’ve completed their two terms and are seeking a completely different position which is also being contested for by others who are not so privileged. They should be made to resign first! You cannot tell me he will not gain undue advantage over the other contestants by sitting there! |
aribisala0:The bit about Public Servants resigning 30 days before vying for elective office is not just a convention but is right there in the Constitution …Section 137, (1) (g). In any case, Elective office or not, they’re all “public servants” in the strict sense of the word and should have the decency not to sit in judgment over matters where they have personal interests with access to information that could put other contestants at a disadvantage. Greedy and shameless lot! |
Deadlytruth:Nothing says we cannot try am…hehehehe . Let him resign nah….if he’s sure he has a large following! |
amdo007:…..meanwhile, this same Southsouth is feeding the Nigerian nation and you all go cap in hand every month to collect handouts. You should be allowed to starve in your village for daring to use derogatory words “tiny Southsouth” in describing your benefactors! |
EcoBrick:Gbam!! Speaking truth to Power! Good man…..may your days be longer than 120 years!! |
Wilson212:If you have not been seeing other political aspirants resigning their positions, you’ll soon find out….! What is good for the goose is also good for the gander…. is that not what they say?? |
Sinnmat:I’m still wondering how your VP is going to vie for the APC ticket considering there’s a constitutional provision that requires any aspirant to resign his/her position in government if they wish to contest. I hope the VP is ready to resign first o! ![]() I doubt if he’ll be stupid enough to do that….but you never know! |
[quote author=yustuzekko post=109891239]Why? Use your common sense my friend. Are the rest of the people in the nation called Nigeria to be regarded as slaves of the North, without equal access to the Presidency? Anyway, common sense is no longer common for some people! |
alphaNomega:You’re absolutely correct. Countries talk about Democracy and guys in Nigeria also come forward to talk about democracy as if na yam. It is so ridiculous to hear it…..as if any of your past leaders has ever won an election through counting of “votes” cast by the people. All you do is allocation of figures as it pleases you….whether it’s Obasanjo or Buhari presidency…...nobody is fooled. Total rubbish!! |
Xscape1993:So, who made YOU the spokesperson for the so-called ‘NIGERIANS’? After all you can only cast one vote…so isn’t it ridiculous pontificating about what Nigerians will or will not do. So, just mind your own private business pls and cast your single ballot anyhow it please you! |
PrestigeTall:Can Joe Biden match this? But he’s the Leader of the free world today. This guy would do much better as a Professor in some University. The job of President is all about having workable ideas and the ability to implement them. Sorry he doesn’t necessarily possess these qualities. Gandollar or Myetti Allah would just be kicking him around for football….with all his degrees! ![]() |
PrinceOfLagos:Really? Is Buni going to constitute himself into Judge and jury? Oversee the Convention and make himself the Chairman as well as Sole presidential candidate of APC? Give people some credit for having a working brain pls. Buni is also supposed to be a Governor of some State of which he has abandoned the duties for several months already…..and you do not expect others to cry fa fa fa Foul? |
Vado:If that’s the right way of looking at it, then Buhari should not care whether or nor PDP takes over from him….but that’s not the reality. Every Leader wants to hand over to someone or a party that will continue to build on his/her legacies not someone that will rubbish those legacies. Again, that’s just common sense! |
nairavsdollars:Do you see the incumbent Governor Fayemi losing the state to a PDP guy after taking it from Fayose? Highly unlikely!! |
Odin13:Pity he left APC for a wrong party….we can NEVER go back to Allison Madueke’s kleptomaniac tendencies again. We’re still whistling for her millions of dollars taken in full view of her boss Jonathan. No way for PDP again….not before year 2050 if they have repented and shown some remorse!! |
JAMO84:Doesn’t common sense dictate that he should nominate neutral and non-partisan individuals into INEC positions? The Electoral Body is supposed to be INDEPENDENT….not filled with APC/PDP sympathisers. Anyway, as they say, common sense is not common! |
TechSpecialist:You are not a human being at all. No sense of right or wrong and no conscience whatsoever. All you can think about is someone using the dastardly murders of both his parents to gain political appointment. How shameful….! |
LasgidyPort:Sorry I beg to disagree. How did he manage to convince the bulk of SW states plus Edo state to move enmasse from ACN and to take a gamble in a new party APC? How did he manage to retrieve all the SW states stolen by Obasanjo in 2003? I believe that he’s more politicallly formidable than people give him credit for. I guess we have to just watch and see how the Capone manoeuvres in the next few months! |
LasgidyPort:Someone who was Senator, two term Governor of the richest state in Nigeria, who led his SW region politically from the AD to ACN to APC…..does not have masses on his side?? You would be surprised to see how his Yoruba people will react to a case of “ingratitude” if Buhari chooses to dump him after using him for 8 years. Just get a comfortable chair to watch the movie of how of a ruling party will lose an election for the second time in Nigeria! In any case, is APGA not controlling Anambra state in the South East? What stops Tinubu’s party controlling Lagos state or even the SW region as the Alliance for Democracy once did? If the Northerners show themselves to be untrustworthy/unreliable people that you cannot work with at the centre, then it will be TO YOUR TENTS O ISREAL!! |
bcomputer101:This party has the potential of forming government at the centre. Remember Abiola won under the flag of SDP…..it’s fortunes will be bolstered dramatically if a personality like Tinubu moves to SDP. Let’s watch out for a lot of drama ahead……Buhari/Osinbajo/Amaechi/Umahi and the rest of them can keep their APC which has proved itself to be a total disappointment. Tinubu will soon show them what political engineering is all about…..Jonathan can tell you all about it from personal experience! ![]() |
Hisbah21:So, how did Obasanjo do it in 1999 and 2003 then…..surely some Northerners must have voted for him? Or was it all mago mago?? |
chinjo:Like General Obasanjo before him, General Buhari has also made up his mind to shift the Presidency to a region that will ensure the UNITY and SURVIVAL of Nigeria as a nation. Going SW will definitely create a rift between Tinubu and Osinbajo. The core East cannot be trusted with the Presidency due to the avowed declaration of a group (Ipob) to establish the nation of Biafra and their preparedness to employ violent means in achieving same. No sensible General who fought a war to keep Nigeria together will concede the Presidency to the SE at this time….unless Ipob starts to sing a different song. That is the plain truth! This leaves us with the SS. Therefore the most likely person to fly the flag for APC is AMAECHI since he can get the support of SW, SE as well as the North (once Buhari gives his full backing and indicates his preference). So, Amaechi is indeed the man to watch….the King in the making! |
NaijirianKing:No point wasting saliva on this matter. We shall see how the North will produce President again in 2023 to rule over some slaves in a land to be called “Nigger Area” where mumus and muguns from SS and SE are shameless accomplices! |
yyba:Treasury looters all. Where is Allison Madueke and the millions of dollars salted away under Jonathan’s watch? These people must think we all have short memories. Now they go and carry Eyo caps in Lagos (I dey laugh). A bunch of JOKERS!!! |
NaijirianKing:Your second to the last paragraph simply makes me smile. Go back into history and you would find that there’s never Peace in the land whenever the Yoruba people are marginalised or ganged up against. Dating back to the days of ‘Weti e’’ of the Awolowo/Akintola era. Just because the North forms an alliance with SS or SE does not mean the agitation for self-determination will fizzle out….in fact, it will now be more exacerbated….that’s why they’re refusing to release Igboho ….once the fervour catches on among the Yoruba people, it will be a different kettle of fish completely. It’s completely different from Ipob agitation for Biafra because there are elements in their so- called Biafra that do not want to go with the Ibos….but the Yoruba of Nigeria are monolithic with kith and kin spread all over West Africa and Brazil. It’s only people like Tinubu that are currently dousing the agitation. If they try what you just suggested, before too long, you would not have a place called Nigeria again….c.f. USSR! |
alsudan:Hmmm….I guess you have a point. Osinbajo has been blinded by Power but he should go into history to find out the fate of Yoruba sons who allowed themselves to be used against their kinsmen. Akintola was a thorn in Awolowo’s flesh and he was used by the North to incarcerate Awo. So was Abiola when he was championing the cause of NPN against Awo’s UPN in the early days. It is one thing to believe in different Causes but it’s another to work mischievously towards the downfall of another…. particularly if that individual is on a genuine mission to lift up the masses of people. It is not everybody you can wrong and get away with it. Whatever man soweth, he reapeth! Osinbajo should refuse to be used by the North at this time against his Principal. IT IS CALLED DIVIDE AND RULE. He should summon up the courage to make it clear to his so-called supporters that as long as his principal is vying for the post, he would not be interested. That is what a true Omoluabi would do and it would put a stop to all these unjustifiable insults and denigration. After taking such an action, it may then happen that Tinubu decides to withdraw from the race to give his younger brother the needed support to lead the Yoruba into battle. As of now, Tinubu is the ASIWAJU (Leader) not Osinbajo. Tinubu is the one the Ondo state Governor described as ‘Our Capone”, not Osinbajo. A word is enough for the wise! |
NaijirianKing:Not everyone is blind to the fact that there would be no Country called Nigeria to rule over if the North insists on two consecutive 8 year terms in office. In fact, Tinubu would do well to team up with Prof Banji of Oduduwa Republic fame should this ridiculous idea be pushed too far. People cannot be slaves in their own land. Not only that….the North would have shown themselves to be totally untrustworthy and an unreliable lot given the sacrifices the South-West made in bringing Buhari to power. In politics as in every other vocation, A MAN’S WORD SHOULD BE HIS BOND ….this counts for a lot and they know it too. Of course, you guys wouldn’t know what this means! |
emmykk:Is the former Governor of Bornu state who is rooting for Tinubu not from North-east? https://www.nairaland.com/attachments/14856827_kashimshettima780x405_jpeg_jpeg9544c6c775a7396fce715f81e99a67db |
helinues:Indeed it’s just their opinion which is inconsequential. Is the former Governor of Bornu state Kashim Shettima who is rooting for Tinubu not from North East? https://www.nairaland.com/attachments/14856827_kashimshettima780x405_jpeg_jpeg9544c6c775a7396fce715f81e99a67db |
NaijirianKing:Where was Atiku’s North-East in 2019? I bet he didn’t even win his state of Adamawa. He can only make noise in Abuja and in other people’s territories. Even that former EFCC guy is more popular than Atiku in the North-East. I beg make we hear word! |
colorsofrainbow:Are you not part of the Nigeria that the Hausa/Fulani wish to rule forever? You would rather remain slaves under the Northern jackboot as long as Tinubu doesn’t become President. A case of cutting one’s nose to spite one’s face. How foolish! |
colorsofrainbow:This is what they call “pie in the sky”. Up till today, has the Federal Govt paid Igboho that got judgment against them several months ago? Kanu truly deserves it for the ill-treatment meted out to him but just remember that the FG has no shame and it’s a Major-General in power! |
