Education / 10 Commandments For Academic Excellence- A New Book by shinystar(m): 10:55pm On Sep 21, 2007
I just published a book titled Ten Commandments for Academic Excellence borne out of time-tested principles that can make any student succeed with top grades.

The book, which uses a motivational, biblical approach, will be an added advantage to students. It is part of my own contribution to the quest for a better Nigeria.

Hoping you will consider it helpful. For now, it is available in bookshops. I am working on the link, which will be ready soonest. Thanks
Religion / Re: Do Pastors Fall Sick? by shinystar(m): 10:12pm On Sep 21, 2007
I am close to a couple of top pastors in Nigeria as a christian journalist of over six years. Let us not deceive ourselves. The fact is they do get sick. Whoever claims he is a pastor and does not fall sick is a blantant liar. I challenge any to make such a claim. Hope this will put the contention to rest. It is needless in the first place if most men of God are truly sincere with us. Thanks

Travel / Re: Describe Your First Trip By Air by shinystar(m): 11:54am On Aug 15, 2007
My first flight experience was to India via Dubai. I could not sleep throughout the seven-and-half flight to Dubai. I was both nervous and apprehensive but there was no turbulence thanks to Emirates flight I flew.

As soon as I boarded, I told myself I must visit the gent and "piss" on those down, which I did in few minutes. I enjoyed myself thoroughly and have never stopped flying since then.

But my worst experience was from PH-Lagos in June. The Arik flight I boarded ran into turbulence and there was apprenhension among us. I was too happy to disembark and now have phobia for local flights.

SMC,

I agree with you. But I think we should not continue to blame others for our failures. That Achebe has not won is not because he is black. Afterall, Soyinka won it. It must be because he has not done what other Lauareates did, which I think is to take a consistent stance against institutional decadence back home.

Why the emphasis on demons if the church is all about revival of apostolic works? Did the disciples have to run after demons?

SMC,

Thanks for the correction. God bless you.
Literature / Re: Why Has Achebe Not Won Nobel Laureate? by shinystar(m): 6:17am On Aug 11, 2007
For me, I think it is because he has not been an activist cum writer. Soyinka is a good writer but I have always considered Achebe a better one. But the former won because he fights injustice and corruption through speeches and writings. But Achebe is docile and hardly takes a stand against societal ills.

Ndipe,

It is certainly not a do-or-die affair but it remains the highest literary recognition in the world. That is indisputable and I think we should look at why our own Achebe has not won inspite of his prodigious talents and qualification.
Literature / Why Has Achebe Not Won Nobel Laureate? by shinystar(m): 11:33pm On Aug 10, 2007
Everyone admits he is Africa's father of prose. He has won every laurel in Literature except the prestigious Nobel Laureate. Why do you think Prof. Chinua Achebe has not won the top prize in Literature despite being eminently qualified for it?

Religion / Re: Mountain Of Fire And Miracles (MFM) by shinystar(m): 11:03pm On Aug 10, 2007
Well, it is amusing people criticise everything else apart from the church. I just can't understand why people become emotional when religion is involved.

On MFM, I wil say the church is too lousy for comfort. I have a branch very close to my house that holds service almost every living moment. And they disturb the peace of the neighbourhood. On demons, I find they exaggerate their powers. I think the church is just thriving on Africans' penchant for spiritual forces. When there are no demons, I wonder what else the church will preach.

Now, fire because I am really ready for the missiles.

Education / Re: Covenant University Stipulates Negative Test To Pregnancy, Hiv As Precondition by shinystar(m): 12:44am On Jul 28, 2007
It' so digusting that a misson University is sperheading this discriminatory policy against PLWHA. I have always known and insisted that religion is our main problem in Nigeria. The question is would Jesus have refused them admission on the account of their HIV status? Would he have shattered their dreams because of that? Why do we preach Christ and act just contrary?
Religion / Re: Can You Attend A Church Led By A Woman? by shinystar(m): 11:24am On Jul 10, 2007
I believe women can serve in leadership positions but being the supreme head is what is unbiblical. Women are not created to lead and where they did, we all can attest to the calamities they wrecked. I am set to be cricified now!

I am enjoying the hot debate, you know. But I humbly suggest we write less to take everyone along. All the quotes are better summarised in a few words.

Let's keep rolling!
Religion / Re: Pastor Chris Oyakilome by shinystar(m): 11:16pm On Jul 06, 2007
I have read with amusement the views of many Christ Embassy members on this thread. I have never believed in the man and his razzmatazz. If his followers are honest enough, they would admit they see more of his flamboyance than the Spirit in the word.

The question is : Would Christ have gone about his ministry the way he does? I have had courses to investigate his church and activities and I came away with distressing facts. He is not a man of God as far as I am concerned. He is just a businessman on the pulpit. I am trying to restrain myself but I have to be bold about my convictions.

I don't give a hoot how you guys will judge and condemn me but I will stand by my words even before God.

I will be waiting for your missiles.
Religion / Re: Can You Attend A Church Led By A Woman? by shinystar(m): 6:29pm On Jul 04, 2007
There seems to be a consensus among us that women should take leadership roles. But the controversy is on how far should they be allowed to lead. Should they lead to the extent that they are the pastors and shepherds without superior authority? Or, should they be allowed to take posts considered less sensitive and feminine?

I suggest we devote our attention to this and get down to the issues. I also agree the length of our contributions should be minimal so that we don't bore some people. Thanks. Let us roll!

Calf,

I started the thread. I don't have to always comment when others are in charge.

Ikomi, you are triviliasing the issue. The point is can you submit to the spiritual authority of a female leader? Let's keep chatting. It's fun, and educative, you know.
Religion / Can You Attend A Church Led By A Woman? by shinystar(m): 10:26pm On Jun 22, 2007
People have argued that female pastors do not make good leaders because women were not created to lead but be led. So, can you attend a church pastored by a woman, especially as a man?

Literature / Miracles Of Norman Vincent's Books by shinystar(m): 10:00pm On Jun 22, 2007
For years, I have been reading titles of Norman Vincent Peale of blessed memory. I found them refreshing and humane. I just finished reading another this afternoon and can't stop wondering what a great man he was. I read You can if you thin you can, Power of positive thinking and several others I can't even remember.

Have you read any of his titles? Let's recall what impact they made on us. Regards!

Literature / Re: Tailed - A Novel by shinystar(m): 9:55pm On Jun 22, 2007
I read Tailed and thoroughly identify with the author's thought. I even reviewed it and my colleagues kept asking for copies. Dupe Olorunjo is a superb writer. I had always thought you needed to be a journalist or read English to write well but Dupe changed that. It amazes me how she makes out her time to write despite being a banker. I see her going places and only ask that she considers the non-christians in her future works .
Literature / Re: Bisi Ojediran Completes 7th Novel! by shinystar(m): 9:50pm On Jun 22, 2007
Have the privilege of reading all his titles. I had reviewed about two or three of them too. He is a terrific writer and I have no doubt this one will take him to further places. I hope our detective reporter is there because he makes my day.

Bravo to Ojediran!
Politics / Re: What Did Obasanjo Fail? by shinystar(m): 7:22pm On May 21, 2007
The fact is Obasanjo is a failure. What has changed in the past 8 years? How well have Nigerians fared? How richer and better are they? It beats me that someone is contesting the obvious facts.

He failed because of self-interest. He is the most selfish man I have ever seen in my life.
Business / Re: I Think I Need Some Business Partners! by shinystar(m): 12:48pm On May 04, 2007
I really think Seun deserves all the bashings. He needs to be told the truth: he is too overbearing.

People like him cannot run a partnership but sole-ownership. So I will say he should just hire someone he can fire as soon as he wants. Otherwise a smart partner that he is seeking for will end up a thorn in his flesh.

You have my best regards and wishes
