Religion / I'm Tired Of Frightening Prayers And Sermons In Church by shinystar(m): 4:35pm On May 21, 2009
I have observed a rather unfortunate trend among churches in Nigeria. They promote this culture of fear among members, telling them one witch or the other is after their lives. Each sunday, Nigeria are inudated with how someone or one spirit is after them. The goal, I understand, is to make them pray hard.

But how much do we tell them people God is much more out to protect them from satanic attempts? Are we not magnifying the devil by telling pple constantly how much he is after them? Should we be promoting fear or faith among pple?

I hope some of us have noticed this too and have one contribution or the other to make.

Hello, never saw the post on LSBSF. This is shinystar, the erstwhile general secretary of the fellowship.

Well, I am a proud Baptist just that I am angry with many pastors in the church. They just get paid for doing nothing. I think salaries should be tied to performance because a lot of them are just inheriting family members, without converting new ones. Thanks.
Religion / Re: I Am Suing Pastor Chris Oyakhilome For N200 Million by shinystar(m): 1:40am On Mar 01, 2009
Oyakhilome's disdain for journalists is legendary and that is what informed the brutalisation of the guy.

This Pastor Chris is a disaster waiting to happen. He will crumble soon like a pack of cards. His end is near
Religion / Re: Beware Of Mockers Of God And His Ministers! by shinystar(m): 1:24am On Mar 01, 2009
davidylan,

You are right. Ouestioning the conducts of men of God is not mockery or atheism. Let's not continue this zombie show they have sold to us.

I believe in God and know men of God are fallible. I talk about their misdeeds not to shame them but to warn others. That does not mean I will think less of them or the integrity of God's word.

Tonye T,

Why are you cynical about the veracity of this info? I said I was part of the reportorial team that covered the event where he shared the 'good news' and someone else said a member confirmed it. What more do you need?

Let us not shed tears for poor Nuhu for he is the architect of his own misfortune. He was fighting for Obasanjo and not Nigeria. He enjoyed power when his godfather was there; Now that he is out, he should expect their enemies will fight back. Please, he is just another politician out there who is now in the wrong camp. He deserves even much more, going by how he hounded Obasanjo's enemies without recourse to rule of law.
Religion / Re: Bishop Mike Okonkwo Acquires Private Jet by shinystar(m): 8:01pm On Nov 25, 2008
These our ministers are stupendously rich. Not that it is bad to be. But I am stunned they have the guts to make money at the expense of the poor masses and flaunt it before them.

To consider a private jet is sickening. I am not even concerned about the cost of purchase but cost of maintenance. He has to pay parking fee, crew's insurance and salaries as well as other expenses. After a year, that even costs almost another brand jet.

I leave us to ponder on the costs.

KunleOshob,

I was part of the reportorial team for the conference where he made the announcement. Those members were probable not there or being mysterious. No that he has taken delivery though because he said what is left is giving them the specifications. So, technically, he has acquired pending delivery.\

By the way, does anyone has any idea how a jet costs?
Religion / Re: Bishop Mike Okonkwo Acquires Private Jet by shinystar(m): 6:33pm On Nov 24, 2008
Guys, are we saying he does not deserve the jet after years of meritorious service in the Lord's vineyard?

Can't we at least be happy for him?

Presiding Bishop of The Redeemed Evangelical Mission(TREM) Bishop Mike Okonkwo has joined the growing lsit of pastors with private jet in the country. Okonkwo, at the annual conference of his church, told the excited participants that the jet would help facilitate the new phase of his ministry.

Ministers who have private jets include Bishop David Oyedepo and Pastor Sam Adeyemi.

Religion / Re: 'child-witches' Of Nigeria Seek Refuge by shinystar(m): 10:56am On Nov 12, 2008
Arrant nonsense. This is what happens when people go to church without their thinking caps.

I am disappointed in Helen Ukpabio. She is a big let down by feasting on the helplessness of the masses. I have always said it that Nigeria will change when the church is sanitised. Most of the problems in the country originate from churches and the ministers.
Business / Re: How Profitable Is The Publishing Industry? by shinystar(m): 1:05am On Nov 09, 2008
These are all exagerrated claims. I am a player in the industry. I just publish a book and have worked in magazine firms. My experience? Publishing should not be ventured into just like. All the calculations of how money you will make from unit sales are fallacious.

What's Ibiyome's stress? How come our men of God are always threatening people who do not play along with death?

Says a lot about their Christ-likeness.

There is an association of vendors in each locality. You have to register with them since there are the agents media houses deal with. They don't sell to individuals.

You get in advanced and return unsold. Except for Punch, others allow you to sell before payment.

And of course the tools like wooden table and chair. Goodluck.
