Religion / Pastor, Accomplice Bag 14 Years For Forex Trading Scam by shinystar(m): 9:53pm On Jul 12, 2016
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC on Monday secured the conviction of Emmanuel Anga and Atin Generous before Justice Abubakar Jauro of Gombe State High Court on a two-count charge bordering on conspiracy and obtaining money by false pretense.
Anga, a pastor, and Generous are alleged to have in November 2013 deceived David Madison into believing that they were employees of Gora Commanding Resources, a foreign exchange investment concern allegedly owned by Philemon Gora (who is still at large).
The convicts tricked their victim into expecting that his investment of N500, 000 would yield 10 per cent interest on a monthly basis.
He only received the 10 percent interest in the first month of his investment, while all the effort to recover his money proved abortive.
Justice Jauro sentenced the convicts to seven years in prison on count one (conspiracy) while Generous bagged another seven years on count two (obtaining by false pretense).
The sentences are to run concurrently from July 11, 2016.
Justice Jauro also ordered Generous to repay the victim N500, 000.

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has launched a Trust Fund aimed at boosting its incomes for critical assignments.

The umbrella Christian body unveiled the Fund in an email notification to Christians across the nation on Monday evening.

It said the Fund was established at its National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting on July 9, 2014 “mobilise critical funding that will enable

Each Christian in the country is expected to donate N500 monthly to support activities of CAN.

The Christian body further stated that the Fund will also foster its financial independence from government influence and interference.

To assure transparency in the Fund, five trustees have been appointed to manage the Trust.

Religion / Daddy GO Will Come & Pray For, Moving Tribute Of Slain Deaconess First Daughter by shinystar(m): 9:13pm On Jul 11, 2016
Jessica, the 15-year-old first child of Deaconess Eunice Mojisola Olawale, who was brutally murdered during morning evangelism in Kubwa, Abuja has described her as an epitome of godliness.

She wrote in the condolence register: “Mummy, I can’t still believe you are gone now. I love you so much.

“I will try to be strong for Daddy, okay? I will take care of my younger ones like you wanted me to. Oh…how I miss you. I think of you.

“You were so beautiful in all suffering and pain. I miss you, come back to us. You must come back to us because nothing is impossible.
“Daddy Adeboye will come and pray for you, okay? Then I will laugh and say I told you mummy will come back. You just can’t leave me here and daddy is worse.

“Please beg God to allow you come back. You love me, you love us, you love him; e sanu wa, e pada (pity us, come back to earth). I can’t sleep, eat, bathe, think and smile.

“I tried to be brave for you. You told me to be strong but mummy I am weak and empty, I am dying. COME BACK. Beg Jesus to release you.

“Oh, how I miss you. Only if I knew, I would have been a better person.”

Speaking with reporters, Jessica Olawale said: “I cried uncontrollably when I heard the news but what can I do? Our only consolation is that she has gone to be with the Lord.

“She always tells me that anyhow, anywhere, she will make heaven. On Friday evening, I was sleeping when she woke me and asked me to accompany her somewhere.

“We trekked to the junction to pay a Mallam she owed. On our way back, she asked me if I have noticed the way she and her siblings love themselves.

“I told her yes and she said I should bring my siblings closer to myself and that I am supposed to be their mother. She was just talking and I said okay mummy. I didn’t know that she was close to her death.

“I will miss everything about my mummy. If I cook, she will shout, ‘Toluwani, I said stop adding too much maggi and salt inside food, it is not good’.

“Sometimes when she goes out, she comes back and ask me can’t I go out and come back home to a neat house?

“The night before she was killed, she came to my room to complain that my room was dirty and then I told her the other chores I had done for the day, she said she was happy and proud of me.

“That night, she described my younger ones as great generals of Jesus Christ and prayed for them.”
Jessica also relayed an interesting encounter with her mother some 24 hours before she was killed.

She said: “I had told her goodnight but I later went downstairs with my brother to meet her. As we got down, she bent down and killed a rat with her leg. She picked it up and said that is how she would kill her enemies.”

He said: “I used to be mad but she was the one that God used to heal me.

Religion / Alleged Illegal Detention: Christian Theologians Slam N10m Suit Against ICPC by shinystar(m): 3:54pm On Jul 11, 2016
National President of the Association of Christian Theologians, ACT, Prof Augustus Macaulay and three other members of the association have slammed a N10 million suit against the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC).

They are contesting their arrest and detention as illegal.

In the suit filed before the Federal High Court, Lagos Judicial Division, the ACT officials alleged infringement on their fundamental human right to personal liberty, religion, movement, dignity of human person and fair hearing.

The also averred that the ICPC ran foul against the law forbidding compulsory taking possession of moveable properties.

Apart from Macaulay, who is the Director of Studies at the United Bible University, UBU, in Yakoyo, Ojodu, Lagos, other plaintiffs in the suit which hearing will come up on Tuesday are: Mrs. Sandra Eno Thomson of the UBU and Christians Soul Winners Worldwide INC, owners of the UBU.

The applicants want the court to declare their arrest and detention by the ICPC from April 27 to April 26, 20016 as illegal and an infringement on their fundamental human rights.

The plaintiffs particularly noted the harrowing experience to which Macaulay, an octogenarian, was subjected.

They described their travail as unlawful, unjust and unconstitutional and extravagant violation of their fundamental rights to liberty.

They also urged the court to overrule ICPC’s directive that they should be reporting at its Ikoyi office every Friday to sign an attendance register, starting from May 3, this year, till date.

The theologians urged the court to order the ICPC to return its seized books and other properties and to dissuade the police from further harassment of its officials under the guise of investigations.

Religion / 20 Injured, Houses Burnt As Assemblies Of God Factions Clash by shinystar(m): 7:20pm On Jul 10, 2016
Two factions of the Assemblies of God Church in Saminaka, Lere Local Government Area of Kaduna State on Sunday turned against themselves.
They were fighting over the leadership tussle that has polarised the church since 2015.
The clash occurred when a faction armed itself and invaded the church during a service by the other faction.
The free-for-all that started from 8am lasted till 12noon.
It left about 20 persons with severe injuries and two houses of the Resident Pastors razed.
Governor Nasir El-Rufai had in September 2015 ordered the closure of the church, including Theological Seminary of Northern Nigeria, (TSNN) Saminaka; Shalom Comprehensive College and AGC Evangelist Hospital, Saminaka to forestall breakdown of law and order.
It was gathered that members of a faction in the minority sneaked into the premises of the Church on Saturday evening and slept overnight, hiding among church property.
A member of the church, who witnessed the fight, said: “We came to worship around 8am at the Assemblies of God Church (Jerusalem) Saminaka unknown that certain faction had prepared for war.
“We came into the premises entered and secured the gates from intruders.
“As soon as we had settled for the Church proceedings, about 20 members of the other faction appeared. They had crept into the church premises the previous night.
“They were armed with knives, daggers, clubs, iron rods and other weapons, the way hooligans would appear.
“To our surprise, Police, Army, Civil Defense personnel arrived the premises of the church almost the same time the other faction came.
“The Police Divisional Police Officer of Saminaka, who has just been posted here, seemed in charge of the security men around.
“He told us to come out of the church and leave the premises. We said we would only do so if the armed faction, which was now hauling stones at us also left.
“In no time, they attacked us, wounding many of us. Since we were not armed we had to find ways to escape.”
He went on: “The most frightening thing was that the stones they were throwing were also falling into Hausa Muslims homes. If these people had reacted, I don’t know what Saminaka would have been today.
“On the contrary, the Muslims came out and were laughing at us. It is such a disgrace.
“To our surprise, the Police and the rest did nothing to stop them. After inflicting injuries on us, they went to the homes of our two resident pastors and set our two pastoriums ablaze.
“As I talk to you now, about twenty of us have secured serious injuries, some near fatal, and are in various hospitals in Saminaka.
“The police did nothing to stop them. They have not arrested anybody, and the police know them, because they were not wearing masks,” he said.
When contacted, Kaduna State Police Command Spokesman, ASP Aliyu Usman said he had not been furnished with information on the violence.
He promised to get back when he gets information on the matter.

Religion / Eunice Elisha Olawale Killed In Kubwa, Abuja, During Early Morning Preaching by shinystar(m): 5:09pm On Jul 09, 2016
Woman killed during early morning preaching in Abuja.

A female early morning preacher was on Saturday killed by unknown assailants in Bolar – pipeline area of Kubwa in Abuja.

The deceased is believed to be a wife of a pastor in the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG).

Though details are still sketchy, it was gathered that she was attacked few minutes after she started her usual early morning preaching.

Residents of the area claimed that they heard her preach as usual around 5am but found her lifeless body around 6am.

A male resident, who sought anonymity said, he heard her voice early in the morning.

He said: “I heard her voice as usual in the morning around 5am preaching and at a point, her voice faded.

“By the time I woke up to start my morning chores, I started hearing people say that a dead body has been found in my area.

“On getting there, I discovered that it was the body of the woman preacher. She is such a nice and jovial person, she doesn’t deserve to die at all and if at all, not in that manner.”

On how the woman was found, he said: “She was practically slaughtered. Her legs were injured and she was lying in the pool of her own blood before policemen came to evacuate her body.

Another resident simply known as Idris said: “I heard her preaching today like every normal day.

“Later on, I heard someone screaming but because of the security situation in the country, I decided not to come out.

“By the time I came out, I saw people gathered discussing the death of the woman. I believe if most people had come out when she screamed, she would have been saved.

Another resident, Uju lamented the security situation in the area despite paying for security levies.

She said: “To think that we pay for security and this place is not protected is saddening.

“What is the work of the security men? Most times when you are come home late, you will find them sleeping and in some cases, you don’t even see them at all.

“I think something has to be done urgently to beef up the security in this area because no one deserves to be killed.

When a call was placed to the security outfit in charge of the area, Sam & Co to get the details, its head Mr. Sam, said: “I saw a deep cut on one side of her stomach and her leg.

“She was not stabbed. I feel if she was stabbed, we would have met her gasping for breath. But when we got to her place because we heard someone shouting blood of Jesus repeatedly, she was already gone.

“The community has two points of entry and we were asked to close one of the entries because a meeting was to be held in the morning. So, we were there doing that around 5am when Muslims were going for prayers and the Christians who went for vigil were returning.

“This is a woman who preaches every morning. She always admonishes people to repent and that the kingdom of God is at hand.

“We heard someone shouting the blood of Jesus and we noticed that the rate at which the person was calling the blood of Jesus was too much. But before we got there, she was in the pool of her blood.”

He said her corpse was taken to phase four police station for further investigations.

Contacted, the Federal Capital Territory Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Anjuguri Manzah initially said he was not aware of the incident.

Hours later when our reporter called back, Manzah said: “I have not confirmed because they changed the DPO and I don’t have the new DPO’s number.”

He however pleaded for more time to get the details.

All efforts to reach him for updates as at the time of filing this report proved abortive.

Religion / We Stand By Ayokunle As CAN President- Methodist Church by shinystar(m): 5:09pm On Jul 07, 2016
The Methodist Church Nigeria is solidly behind the emergence of Rev Dr Supo Ayokunle as president of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN).

Its prelate Dr Samuel Uche said the church stands by its decision to vote for Ayokunle of the Christian Council of Nigeria (CCN) bloc during the presidential election of the body.

It added that the process that led to the emergence of the newly elected CAN president was free and fair.

The Methodist Church stated these in response to allegations one of its Emeritus Prelates, Dr Sunday Mbang was planning to host a meeting last Thursday of ex-presidents of CAN aimed at scuttling the planned inauguration of the new executives.

Uche, in a statement by the Church’s Director of Media and Public Relations, Rev. Oladapo Daramola, said: “We went into the election which to me remains one of the most credible in the history of CAN as one entity.

“Every candidate was given equal chance to make their case at the National Executive Council meeting where voting took place, and the choice of Rev. Dr Supo Ayokunle was clearly overwhelming through the ballot.

“Weeks after the election, nobody is crying foul or injustice because the position of all the blocs were given due consideration and fairly treated.”

On Mbang’s involvement in the purported meeting of concerned CAN elder statesmen, Uche said: “The fact that our revered father and one of the Church’s Prelate Emeritus, His Eminence Dr Sunday Mbang was quoted in the media report as one of the leaders meeting to review what happened does not in any way suggest that Methodist Church Nigeria is backing down or withdrawing support for the elected CAN leadership.

“We stand by what we did as we have not contravened any section or part of the constitution of CAN neither have we gone against the spirit of oneness which we stand for.

READ Cross River CAN inaugurates new exco
“I believe that the past leaders are only looking at some of the fallouts of the election which is normal, but not to scuttle the inauguration of the newly elected President, Rev. Dr Supo Ayokunle.

“There is certainly no basis for that and I’m so sure it’s clearly not the intended. All of them are great men of God who have served the organisation meritoriously and devotedly at different times and I know for a fact, that no father would want to be seen to be working against his child’s progress.”

He urged support for the CAN new leadership. “I believe this is the time to make CAN stronger and rejuvenated considering the challenges ahead.

“There is so much work to be done in the body of Christ. We have several of our Churches that have been ravaged by Boko Haram in the North-eastern part of Nigeria that needs to be rebuilt and our members resettled and reestablished.

“We have an integral role to play in all of these. We have the serious role of advocating peace and mutual respect for all religions especially in the North were some people have continued to exhibit very high level of intolerance and disdain for people of other faith especially Christians.

“The activities of the herdsmen in the South East are gradually claiming more Christian casualties and we have to put forward a strong and united front to tackle of all of this. So I call on hands to be on deck so as to achieve this together."

Religion / Trustees Fight Olumba Olumba’s Wife, Sister Over Power Of Attorney by shinystar(m): 7:15pm On Jun 29, 2016
The Brotherhood of the Cross and Star on Wednesday alleged that the sister of its Spiritual Head, Mrs. Helen Udoh (Queen Mother), forged the document with which she is claiming power of Attorney.

It also denied that its Sole Spiritual Head, Leader Olumba Olumba Obu, gave power of attorney to the Queen Mother Ibum Olumba Obu to take over its administration.

Reacting to a media report that the Supreme Court was to hear Olumba’s suit next January 17, BCS spokesperson, Bishop Princely Ugwa Ibeabuchi, said the report had weighty and serious mistakes.

Ibeabuchi said: “The first correction is that the Supreme Court panel to hear the suit was not headed by Justice Sylvester Ngwuta as reported but by Honourable Justice W. S. N. Onnoghen who led four other justices in the court.

“The report referred to His Holiness Olumba Olumba Obu as Roland Obu and the second son of Leader Olumba Olumba Obu but the fact is that he is the First Son and we have abundant evidence to that effect.

“In the report, it was stated that Leader Olumba Olumba Obu gave the Queen Mother power of attorney.

“The truth of the matter is that the Leader never gave any form of attorney or any other instrument to her which is supposed to entitle her to take over the administration of Brotherhood of the Cross and Star.”

He added that it was not his Holiness Olumba Olumba Obu that took the Sister Mrs. Helen Ibum Udoh (Queen Mother) to court in His Private Capacity.

Rather, he clarified it was the BCS Board of Trustees that initiated the action against her to challenge the claim that she has the power of attorney as Head of BCS administration.

Is it true you plan to relocate to Africa?

Yes, in 2015 I had a two- week solitude with God at which God specifically gave me instructions to go back to Africa, including what he wants me to do there. There have since been several confirmations of the revelation.

Why the relocation and what part of Africa are you coming to?

How soon will this materialise?

I’ll simply follow the Lord’s direction and guidance. Besides, I have a 30 year experience in Europe and ministry all over the world that will go a long way to help me fulfill the task ahead in Nigeria

Russian Union of Christians Evangelical Faith alleged you confessed to having adulterous affairs with at least 20 women in your church. How true is this?

I never once was invited to a meeting with any Russian Union of churches. Neither did I ever spoke to them either by telephone or any other way. So there is no way I could confess to people I never spoke to or met

Your spiritual father, Apostle Toff Ulissis, also attested to this allegation, stating you need “psychiatric help”. What is your reaction to this?

Apostle Tuff is not my spiritual father but I had a relationship with him. But I actually was saved under W.F Kumuyi. Besides, even this Apostle Tuff denies ever making any such statements to the press or any media house

You hinted the allegation was an old fabrication cooked by disgruntled leaders in your church over power tussle. Let us in into what really transpired?

We have over 40 churches in the capital of Ukraine Kiev, about 400 other churches in the country, plus over a 1000 churches worldwide. When I got the revelation about moving to Africa I wanted to totally go and leave a local leadership of the entire ministry while I go back to Africa to start all afresh.

My thought was that I’ll be so busy with the enormous task of Nigeria transformation that I won’t have the time to be managing the church in Ukraine. That is when all hell broke loose. As usual some wanted the buildings; others wanted the budget while some wanted the crowd. The rest is history…

The allegation has raised global concern and uproar. What will you tell those who still believe in you and look up to you?

As ministers we don’t defend ourselves. We all have the God who called us and who is our only defense so at the end of the day the only thing that matters is that God is pleased and happy with you. If He is on your side, you are in the majority. If on the other hand people are on your side, but God isn’t then you are in trouble. We are not movie or sports stars that need a fan base. We on the other hand only have one audience; we are actors performing to only please the Master. When the Master is pleased, he will even reconcile your enemies with you.

What happens to the church in Ukraine if you leave?

That is the more reason why I’m actually happy all the rebellion happened. Thanks to it I was able to clean house. So we are establishing a new structure in the church now. Top of which is that I must remain the senior pastor of the church even when I’m in Africa. That is a major point of stability moving forward

There are insinuations that the Nigerian media latched on to the story because some powerful forces in the Christian community are desperate to dent your image ahead of your relocation. Are you aware of this and what will you say to that?

It could be especially since I’m a straightforward person, a frank person who shares his opinions openly anywhere, anytime. In short I’m a straight taker. No doubt many people might not like my style. Others might have been outright incensed and offended by me or some of my past publications.

I guess they have the right to react anyway they see right in their eyes. We are all living in a free society so I don’t mind if any of them is a part to this. On the other hand I too have the right to freely express my opinion on the issues going on in my fatherland

Religion / I’m Not Having Sex With My Female Members – Pastor Sunday Adelaja by shinystar(m): 1:16pm On May 25, 2016
The Nigerian founder and general overseer of the Embassy of Blessed Kingdom of God for All Nations Church in Kiev, Ukraine, pastor Sunday Adelaja, has denied claims that he had extramarital affairs with no fewer than 20 women in his church.
The pastor had reportedly been asked to step down as the spiritual head of the church after the adultery scandal made the rounds.

The allegations against him as divulged in a statement on its website, the Russian Union of Christians Evangelical Faith, Adelaja, at a meeting of pastors and board of elders of the church, confessed to having committed adultery with his female parishioners and that he had repented.
According to a letter posted on the website of the Spiritual Council Russian Union of Christians Evangelical Faith (Pentecostals), written by one Apostle Toff Ulissis, a clergyman said to be providing spiritual care to the Nigerian pastor, Adelaja was urged to, “seek psychiatric help in Kiev and the United States.”

Ulissis said, “Pastor Sunday mentioned that he had a relationship with 20 or 30 women; probably, the number was more than he could remember.

“Also, I talked with many women (married and unmarried), as well as with their husbands, and they shared with me their pain and described how the pastor manipulates people, who work for him.

“All the stories were equally horrific, disgusting and depressing.
“People are very sorry about the current situation with the pastor and wanted him to have psychiatric help.

“I made it clear that my aim is not to destroy either the Embassy of God, because many people have found help in the church or Pastor Sunday as a person.

“I wanted to make sure that everything has been done to these women and the couples have received care, reconciliation and redeeming restoration.”

Meanwhile, reports allege that a bishop in Adelaja’s church, Anatoly Belonozhko, has resigned from the church.

His resignation, according to him, was as a result of the embattled pastor, not willing to seek help.

Belonozhko was quoted to have said, “We, as church elders, began to create new projects and exercises to heal and restore the church, a new structure, and of course, help our pastor.

“But Pastor Sunday in writing categorically rejected our help, humiliating us and saying that we have no power to tell him what to do and how to do it and that he knows how and what to do.

“For 22 years in the Church of the Embassy of God, of which 14 years in the rank of bishop, I have always been faithful and responsible before God and people for their service.

“Taking this opportunity, I want to refute the lie that I knew of pastor’s sin for a long time; I found out about the moral fall of Pastor Sunday in the middle of December 2015 through the pastors of the Apostolic Council.

“After I learned about it, I talked to Pastor Sunday, trying to help.

“Remaining in the church in the most difficult time for all of us to save and restore the church and souls of men. But as I understand it, the pastor does not need my help,” Belonozhko said.

Ajala has, however, denied all allegations.

Religion / Okonkwo: Why I Voted, Campaigned Against Jonathan by shinystar(m): 8:12am On May 10, 2016
Okonkwo: Why I voted, campaigned against Jonathan

The presiding Bishop of The Redeemed Evangelical Mission (TREM), Dr Mike Okonkwo, was one of the few Christian leaders who backed President Muhammadu Buhari during private meetings and consultations before the 2015 general elections.

He told naijachurchnews why he voted against ex-President Goodluck Jonathan despite endorsements from many leading Christian groups and organisations as well as other issues. Excerpts:

You have been labelled supporter of the government of change...

… But everyone should love change. Everyone should work for change. For me, my interest politically is whoever will deliver dividends of democracy for the nation. Regardless of that person’s religious persuasion, as long as he can deliver, he has my vote. Even if he is a heathen, I will vote for such person.

But people are asking ‘is this is the change we voted for’?

That is the issue I keep talking about. Nigerians are naturally impatient and we chicken out once there is a little pressure. We will say we don’t want again. I read somewhere in the social media a young man who said we should go back to corruption since things appear not to be working out well.

I said so we go back to the vicious cycle? I replied the young man and said he was talking nonsense. Yes, things are not too stable but that is to tell you the rot the nation has degenerated to. You see, we are not fighting corruption. Nigeria is corruption. Everywhere you turn, every sector you turn, you find corruption.

From messenger to driver to the boss, everyone is involved. Corruption has become a second nature to us. The truth is you hardly find anyone that has been dragged into the industry of corruption. It is as bad as that. Corruption has become the biggest industry in the nation.

Now that Buhari is there, it will be foolhardy to say things will change overnight. Buhari will not completely eradication corruption because it’s been with us for decades. If anyone is expecting Buhari to change this even if he stays for 15 years, the person is not being sincere.

I believe the current administration is fighting so hard to put things in place. The things we are seeing is corruption fighting back. We have saboteurs in the system that will take time to be detected and flushed out.

There are people enjoying where we were. They were making it with the situation we had then. They have a lot of money in their hands so they can do anything; they can create problems. But if we endure a lot, I believe things will be better.

Do you believe this administration will deliver?

I believe so with all my heart. I believe the current crop of leaders will fix this nation. That is why some people are fighting them back. It is because they know within themselves that they can deliver.

What is the basis of that belief?

Why not? They have wonderful programmes. The budget has just been passed. So, let’s watch between now and end of the year for things to start taking shape.

Do you share the belief that government should declare amnesty for all corrupt Nigerians?

I believe that we should but with stringent conditions. If you have stolen money and you are willing to willingly refund, you can access amnesty. But amnesty does not mean we should not run after all the looters of our treasuries. They have been able to accumulate too much than even the nation. The government has recovered so much of the loots and they should go even after more looters.

Religion / Adeboye To RCCG Pastors: Double Attendance Or Get Sacked by shinystar(m): 8:04am On May 10, 2016
Pastors in Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) have received a marching order from general overseer of the church, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, to increase the size of their congregations by one hundred percent before August or be sacked.

Adeboye handed down this order last Saturday during the ministers’ conference shortly after the monthly vigil of the church at the Redemption Camp on KM 46 Lagos-Ibadan expressway.

The church has a tradition of transferring and promoting pastors nationwide in August when it celebrates its anniversary.

It is believed that the order by Adeboye is part of a much-expected shake-up in the church’s hierarchy nationwide.

The general overseer said pastors within the church must be ready to double their efforts in soul-winning to expand the Kingdom of God.

Religion / Uma Ukpai: My 98-year-old Mother Wants Me To Buy Her Jeeps by shinystar(m): 2:38pm On May 05, 2016
Renowned evangelist, Dr Uma Ukpai, sat down with naijachurchnews.com last week at his ministry’s headquarters in Uyo, capital of Akwa Ibom State, to talk about intimate details of his life and ministry. Excerpts

What else is driving you at over 70?

I believe knowledge is infinite. I am still building. No man is a great man without being a merchant of knowledge. You just have to keep learning until you drop dead. When a man stops learning, he decays down from his neck.

I have a library worth N35million. I have a library that has a book on every life’s endeavours. I have books on every doctrine of the bible. I discipline myself to read at least six hours a day.

If you were to be in the public service, you would have retired…

… Why because of age?

Yes.

Well, age is nothing but just a figure. My mother is 98 but she doesn’t plan to die yet. She still wants me to buy her Jeeps. When I asked to know what an old woman will do with jeeps, she broke down and said I should convince her that old age was a sin. The only time a man becomes old is when he has no dreams to dream.

Why don’t you have a church base?

That is not what God asked me to do. He told me to be a bridge among churches.

So, how have you survived 42 years without regular tithes and offering?

I serve an awesome God who is very rich. My mother saw me driving a new car and she said she didn’t know preachers can have money to buy new cars. Her business had just collapsed and she asked me to give her money to revive it.

I said I didn’t have money but will tell God that night and the money will be available the next morning. She said I had gone mental. I said someone called me and will pay the bills.

The next morning, my secretary went to the office and saw a big parcel of money with the inscription: For Uma’s use. She started crying the money was not there when she closed the night before.

What message do you have for those who don’t have Corporate Social Responsibilities (CSR)?

I don’t have any message for them. Everybody runs according to the light he has received. If they don’t have that inclination, God will find someone else to get it done.

Does everyone get healed in your crusades?

My prayers cannot heal everybody.

Is it because you don’t have enough faith or anointing?

Only Jesus had the anointing that makes the bible says he healed them all. But even as we speak, I must be one of the most anointed men of God around without blowing my trumpet.

Are you planning to write your biography?

Yes I do but not until I am done with my colleges. I plan to write one and make a statement to the world that God can make all things possible for you. There is nothing he cannot do with or without tithes and offering. I think a preacher should not be on salaries but the blessings he has poured out so come back to him.

Do you fall sick sometimes?

I had been fatigued once if that is what you want to call sickness. My doctor said I was about to die but I said people like me don’t die like ordinary men. He said if I knew what he saw, I would agree but I said ‘I don’t care what you saw.’

They flew me to London against my wish. When we go there, six professors attended to me. They saw nothing but said I just didn’t know how to rest. They asked me to return back the bed they gave me.

But they didn’t give me back the money I paid for the bed. It is six years after and I am still here.

Properties / Recall Your Ex-good Neighbours by shinystar(m): 5:19pm On Oct 25, 2013
I know we all like to talk about unpleasant persons and situations. They make us feel right and better. But can we for once focus on the positives? Let's talk about some people we lived with that left lasting impressions on us. I recall my last apartment. I lived with three other tenants and a landlord who was overseas. One of my co-tenants was a fantastic guy. He was understanding and tolerant. Once, he travelled to the UK and called to say hi. He even bought stuff for all the children in the compound. We still get to see and I appreciate him and his wife so much. Can we have yours please?

It started when she was eight. For the next 28 years, Miss Funmi Ayotade lived as a lesbian. It was a journey that took her to the high and mighty. It also left her with permanent scars. In this interview with Sunday Oguntola, Ayotade shares her heart-rending escapades in the world of lesbianism.

How did the journey into lesbianism start for you?

I can remember faintly that when I was four, I started noticing a strange feeling for fellow girls like me. We were in Blackburn, United Kingdom then where I was born. I knew something was just wrong with me. I wasn’t acting like my playmates. I can remember I was always scared of so many things. I was nervous of toys and very afraid whenever they tried to take my picture. I snapped at every little thing. I was even afraid of flash of lights. Those were elements of lesbianism that they didn’t notice. I never loved boys. I related with them but I was more passionate when dealing with same-sex friends. I was sharing my stuffs with girls more readily. I never liked making my hair; I always preferred to be on low-cuts. I liked biking and masculine chores. In most of my pictures, I will raise my legs and my father will snap away.

When we came to Nigeria in 1981, I found myself in another preserved environment. Marital violence was the order of the day. My parents were staying in my father’s family house and that was a terrible experience for me. My father had to serve in Zaria when we came back and my mother got a job with First Bank, Apapa in Lagos. I remember one incident; we had just come back from Pedro in Bariga one Sunday where we spent the weekend with my maternal family. My mother remembered she had not washed my uniform and needed to get ready for work on Monday. She backed my younger sister, Bukky, who was very sickly as a child. I just remember that an uncle of mine, a distant relation, just bounced on her as she washed my cloth, not minding she was backing a baby. I was just shouting ‘leave my mummy alone’. He threw the baby to the pavement and I ran out. I was told that I would have been run down by an approaching vehicle. As I speak with you, that incident is still a pain to me. Also, my uncles came with different girls and maltreated them. I saw all of these and started forming an opinion about the opposite sex. Even my father, as enlightened as he was, was also part of the attitude. He was always beating my mother. When we came to Shasha in the 80s, it was the late Baale Oguntade that talked to him to stop the battery. So, you can imagine a child growing in that environment. All the abuses meted to my mother made me form an aversion for the opposite sex.

So, all of these were there within me. I never had an opportunity to express it until we came to Shasha and hired a house help. She came from Saki in Oyo State when she was 16. I was around eight. She never liked watching TV and was a recluse. She developed a special likeness for me, being the eldest of the three children. At a point, she started calling me ‘my husband’. She would even give me a peck, so I was wondering where she learnt all of that since she was not a media freak. So, it started with kissing and pecking. We lived in a three-bedroom apartment. We had a room to ourselves and we were made to sleep on the mat because we were still bedwetting. But she always asked me to come to the bed besides her. One night, she started moving my hands to sensitive parts of her body. I began to think ‘could it be this lady is feeling the same way I have been feeling?’

When she came to do those things, I felt welcome into her life and developed a special interest in her. Anytime she fought with my mother, I always felt for her. I would apologise on behalf of my mother and even pecked her. My father was working with Nigeria Textile Mills (NTM) and running shifts. Mummy was always coming home late. She worked on the Island (in Lagos) and we lived in Shasha. So, the maid locked me in, naked herself and asked me to suck her breast. I did because I already had erotic feeling for her.

Then, she began to tell me how she used to do it while in Saki with different partners. She told me how she always had an affair with her madam in her former place of work. She told me all the ladies in our neighbourhood did it. I remember seeing letters she wrote to a particular girl in Saki. Those letters were so romantic though they were written in Yoruba. It was through her I knew she had lured other ladies around us to the act. I got closer to those aunties, wanting to explore. So, she became jealous.

All of these at eight?

Yes, at eight. I became curious and started relating with them. When she saw me with them, she became jealous. So, we started having problems. Fortunately, she had to leave at that time because my parents had a fight. When I was in Shasha Primary School, I noticed there was a girl always dotting over me. I was only playing with girls, though it was a mixed school. When I was in primary four, she became my sitting mate. She told me about her family’s troubles. How her parents had separated and how only her dad was talking care of them alone. Whenever she wanted to talk, she would lean on my shoulder. I was a succour sort of and I shared my stuffs with her. One day, she said she wanted me to marry her and I said I would. I started taking her to our house at Oguntade during break times because I had the keys to the house, being the eldest child. We did the acts many times. When I was transferred to St. Mary Convent School on Campos Street, Lagos, it continued. I found that homosexuality was the in-thing there despite the high moral disciplines. It was a day school, yet there were many lesbians there.

We wrote love letters to each other and always played the roles of a man. I always bought things for my sitting partner. Our teachers encouraged us to exchange gifts during Valentine and we saw it as a further proof to continue. The teachers never winked at it despite the fact that we spoon-fed each other and exchanged amorous looks. We all felt good about it all.

In 1989 during the Ibrahim Babangida-must-go riot, I remember I was stuck in school. My mother was on leave. I always followed her staff bus to school. Because of the riot, I could not go back home. We had a Reverend Sister teaching Moral Instructions who saw me and said I should follow her to the mission house. I ended up sleeping there since my mother could not reach me. I slept off and late in the night, the sister started caressing me. She had the act with me. Since then, I always wanted to be in her class. I was closely related to her and started fantasising with her.

So, you were actively lesbian by the time you left primary school?

Yes, I was.

What happened during your secondary school years?

That was at Girls High School, Agege. It was another world. It is an all-girls’ school. So, we were only with fellow girls. We shared our troubles together and related sexually. It was very prominent there too. Only those with strong sexuality survived. When I was in JSS3, one of the teachers showed interest in me. She would always call me and send me to her house.

One day, she said I had to go to one Hajia around Danjuma area. When I got there, the woman took me to her house and said I should suck her breast. I was scared. She then said ‘that was why your teacher sent you’. So, I did and we had the act. She gave me a note to my teacher. My teacher now said many ladies did it and if I wanted to be okay, I had better continue to do it. I remember she bought me my first set of brassier from the first outing. So, it became a tradition. We call it ‘hot jobs’, anyway. After school hours and during break times, she would give up. We went to several big women around Agege and Agbotikuyo for the acts. We formed a clique among the students. The school authorities didn’t know about it but many teachers were behind it. We made money that they shared with us. But we couldn’t flaunt the money anyway. We must finish everything in school. They were peanuts that appeared big to us then. Our teachers got contracts and businesses from the rich women in exchange for our illicit affairs. This went on for about three sessions or so.

I remember getting home late one day to meet my father. I couldn’t convince him where I was coming from, so he beat me so mercilessly. He thought I was following guys, not knowing I was doing much worse. The next day, he followed me to school and the teacher denied she sent me out. I was penalised again and couldn’t take it any longer. I found somewhere behind the class and attempted suicide.

The whole school was in uproar when they found me. I hung my neck with my school’s belt. It took them much effort to disengage me. They concluded it was a spiritual attack after they called my parents. But that experience toughened and hardened me.

By the time I left secondary school, I had gone so deep in it. I started meeting with female clerics. I graduated into meeting pastors’ wives across denominational divide. I was a member of Cherubim and Seraphim Church, Ayo Ni O Movement. It happened there too, but it was a background lifestyle though we knew one another.

When I was in SS2, I met a pentecostal pastor’s wife who said she wanted to be my godmother. I started going out with her to meet several women. I realised there was a fellowship of homosexuals then. They call it True Christian Fellowship for Nigerian Gay and Lesbians. It was co-founded by an American Bishop and two Nigerian preachers. One was orthodox, the other pentecostal. It was for ministers who were lesbians and homosexuals. By the time I finished secondary school, I had all the time in the world because I was awaiting results. My parents were busy with work and I was trying to make up my O’Level results. I would follow her and I would return later in the day. There we had a bi-monthly retreat that I could not attend. But at a time, she came to ask my parents for permission to attend the fellowship. Since they didn’t know what she was doing to me, they accepted.

That marked my first time at the retreat. I met big and prominent people and was shocked. They were celebrities and people from the arts and entertainment industry. I met old musicians and that was when I knew the weight of the fellowship. They had something they call the Gay Bible and talk about your rights as homosexuals. When I started meeting those important Nigerians, I felt I wanted to be like them. I told her about that goal and she used her influence to get me registered though I was not a minister. One of the registration requirements is that you must be gay or homosexual affirmed. They call their initiation baptismal initiation and you will be taken through the gay culture.

When was all this?

That was in 1996-98.

Before homosexuality became a big issue?

Yes, you see it has always been with us. But it was in the background. Homosexuality has always been a large community. It is a world on its own. These people wanted to help me get admission but my father insisted I must make up for my deficiency in Mathematics. In 2001, I gained admission into Yaba College of Technology to study Accounting. I then had all the freedom in this world and was a living act. I was around 22, 23 years then and people started noticing I had no boyfriend. One guy even approached me that he suspected I was lesbian. I told my godmother and she said, ‘you too should look for somebody to marry so that they will not suspect you’. So, I followed her counsel. I asked her what if I don’t have feelings for that man? She said, ‘it does not matter because it is the man that should love’.

So, I started hunting for guys. So, from those of them that came around me I picked one. I met him in LASU Epe where he was a student when I went to write my GCE exams. He said he liked me when we met because I was a tomboy. He said, ‘I will marry you’ and I asked him why. So, that guy appealed to me. He kept checking me when I finished the exams and showed commitment. Even when my father was not welcoming him, he never cared. So, I told my godmother about him, she approved of him. They met and she liked him.

She encouraged me to go ahead and said since he was cool-headed, he could help me to get out of it. At that time, I was fed up with being a lesbian. I wanted to live normal life like other ladies. So, we started discussing marriage and by 2002, we had the introduction. After then, that was the first time I had sex with a man. It was so horrible and the experience was disgusting. I then reasoned I would get along with time. Each time, we wanted to relate sexually, I had to visualise the picture of one of my female partners to enjoy it. I was also pretending I was enjoying the act when it was not so.

After we married, I realised his eldest sister was also a lesbian. That became very tough for me. She was doting on me and supported me all the way against the family. I liked her and made out time to be with her. I stayed with her many nights to have the acts. She was the pillow queen, the submissive, the feminine. She was also a deaconess in the church, very sanctimonious. My husband and I were at Raji Razak Estate but she started influencing me to tell him to get an accommodation in Aboru so that we could be closer.

After much pressure and pleadings, I yielded. But I had other lesbian partners and she became jealous. She was like how could I be bringing women into her brother’s house? She said I was exposing my brother to dangers. I was livid and felt she could not control my life. So, we started having troubles. I then said I was going to quit the marriage if she kept pestering me.

One day, I called the mother and told her I was not interested in the marriage again. I opened up that her daughter was lesbian. To my surprise, she said there was no big deal. That didn’t I know that her daughter loved me so much and would always fight my cause? She was like was that how I would repay her? I just walked out on her.

I became pregnant and felt sick but they didn’t bother to look after me. They didn’t show up even when I was hospitalised. It was my second pregnancy. So, my father was angry and said I must not return to them again. When the guy came around begging, I said I needed to round off my HND programme and everything just crashed. It degenerated into a war.

You had two babies for him?

Yes, but I lost them. The first one died in 2008 and the second died in March 2004 immediately I had him. He couldn’t survive it he immediately came out. So, I was living with my parents and resumed my full lesbianism. I was working and had all the time. I lost my dad in 2005 and became completely free. I even moved out of the house and started living with female partners. There was even a pastor’s wife that rented a four-bedroom apartment for me in Orelope, Egbeda. I was all to myself whenever she could not come because she was married. In her absence, I brought other ladies in.

So, at what point did you turn a new leaf?

I will say it all started in 2008. Before then, I ventured into a heterogeneous illicit affair with a guy. I told him I was lesbian yet he said he was going to marry me. He is a lecturer at Yaba Tech now. He said he wouldn’t mind marrying me. He said I could even be living my lesbian life and be married to him. So, I realised he was encouraging me to go online to get lesbian partners that we made money off. This was despite the fact that he was an instrumentalist in the church. I felt repulsed with what he was using me for and decided I was not going to marry him. I told him so one day and he became mad. He even slapped me. I said that was it. I was pregnant for him then but said it was not for him. I packed his belongings one day and gave all of them out to Mallam for free. That made him know I meant business. He gave up on me completely.

How did you lose your daughter?

She was sick for just a week and I lost her on May 25th, 2008. But I believe it was a blessing in disguise. I never breastfed her but when she was three, I noticed she started touching and sucking my breast. My mother told me to allow her but I thought it was not normal. If she didn’t accept breast as a baby, why coming for it at three? I had my suspicion until the passover night of 2008. We all met in church for the service. Then, one person caught her kissing a fellow lady. I saw it myself. That got me alarmed that my daughter was also in the act. I was alarmed. I started praying to God to save my daughter from that life. So, I embarked on fasting and vigil. I was praying God should take away anything that will stop me from making heaven. On the 18th of May, I was told the sickness started. She died on a Sunday in my hands. What came to my mind was that God answered my prayers. After that incident, I was more remorseful. I was staying in a friend’s house in Abesan Estate. She was the one I had the longest affair with as a lesbian. She was married and based in Katsina but came to Lagos when she heard I was in her apartment. So I gave birth to the third pregnancy and lost it too. At that point, I was fed up. I just wanted to die.

So, what was the turning point?

My mother and my sister in the United Kingdom sent messages that I was going to die. They said God was angry and I might die if I didn’t change. Each time I made the decision, I kept falling back. By October, I developed drowsiness and was placed on medications. Nothing worked for me. I was almost dead; I saw my spirit leaving my body. I was battling with death. I had to rush to the hospital the next day. I was practically dead for three days. I only came around the fourth day, after the doctors had given up on me. So, I started looking for a church for deliverance. I attended a church on Lagos-Ibadan expressway for the session. Unfortunately, I stayed in a room at the camp with a lady who happened to be a lesbian. I had to run out of the place again.

In 2009, I met a female wrestler called Chinonye. She stayed in Abesan Estate and was more into lesbian prostitution. When I met her, I insisted she must stop smoking and drinking. She did and her mother was happy to have me move in. She was also married and lost a child like me. Her family never knew she or I was a lesbian. I started staying with them in February 2009. We had a room to ourselves and were deep into the act again.

I slept one night and had a dream. I saw myself in a narrow way on a street with a bungalow building. The gate was dented but the fence was not too high. I went into the building and realised someone invited me to look in. I saw pierced hands when a beam of light appeared. A man was dancing and singing. He was singing if I would be ready when the Lord comes. When I woke up, I was drenched in sweat. She wanted me to sleep with her again and I said no.

She was busy caressing me but I insisted I must pray. I told her I was done with the act. When she tempted me for seven days and I didn’t budge, she knew I was damn serious. I had to leave her house after many weeks. I underwent many deliverance and rehabilitation sessions in different churches.

What signals should one look for to recognise homosexuals?

They are very simple. It doesn’t take up to one minute to know. One, they cannot look straight into the eyes of the same-sex because they are very shy and the issue of attraction. Two, they are never interested in issues of heterogeneous relationships. Thirdly, they are too busy with religious, academic and professional issues. They don’t give out time for leisure. These are the simple signals to look out for. They are extremely shy towards same-sex. They can look at opposite sex without issues. But homosexuals cannot look straight into members of the same-sex. They isolate themselves and feel odd most times.

Are government’s legislations against same-sex helpful?

They are not the solutions but they are measures to check the insanity in the society. We are in a situation where it is now alarming. People no longer hide it; they are brazen. You see guys wearing carrot trousers. Because of western voice sounding higher, we need legislations to checkmate it. There are deviants that the legislation will help. But there are many homosexuals that are not happy with it. These legislations do not address them. So, how do homosexuals under threat get help? But government needs to do much more. We have to really go into the roots of family life in this country. The family is where to fight this battle. If families are well-founded and traditional roles are emphasised, it will help a lot. Mothers should assume the roles of trainers and not try to be breadwinners, taking the place of the fathers. They should not seek to equate themselves with men. So, we need something to regenerate traditional family values.

Would you still want to remarry?

Yes, I do. I am beginning to appreciate males and respecting them now. I now long for marriage and I can say I am mature to handle a marital relationship.

Do you believe homosexuality is never a western culture?

It is never. We have recorded history in the Bible. There was a Sodom and Gomorrah. The tribe of Benjamites was heavily into it. In the New Testament, Apostle Paul spoke against it. So, sexual disorder is an age-long thing. It has been with us in Africa but we only pretend about it. Some cultures permit it in Africa. In the northern parts of Nigeria, it is believed that wealth is in the anus. It is not an alien culture but a problem associated with man irrespective of tribes and racial divides.

This is pure media propaganda. Terrorists everywhere are tortured when captured for information. So, please only those who are sympathetic to Boko Haram will condemn any measure to checkmate the sect.

It is the same with women down there. Never think another woman's sexual organ is better than that of your wife. I have never recovered from that wisdom.
