It's a thing of joy to me when i look back and i see how d Nigerian movie industry had evolved frm d days of 'glamour girlz' nd 'true confessns' to d tym of 'figurine' nd 'mirror boy'. Amidst downfalls nd pitfalls, nollywood or wateva wood dem carry has improved but there are key aspects i personally feel as an up and coming scriptwriter nd actor.
1. Over 70 per cent of movies nominated for oscars evri year are book adaptations. It helps to bridge d gap btw d literary nd film industry. In this age where readin culture is lower dan ever, book adaptatns cud encourage d audience to go bak to d book. Popular movies dat re book adaptatns are: harry potter series, lord of d rings trilogy, the help, revolutionary road, twilight series, and d latest blockbuster- hunger games. Pure creativity is good but script writers shud nt bcom lazy in adapting wonderful books lyk: purple hibiscus, joys of motherhood, agbako nile tete(yoruba) etc. Thanks to Tunde kelani, he has tried in dis aspect over d yrs wiv films like koseegbe, saworoide, oleku etc. Book adaptatn shud b encouraged.
2. Biopics shud also b encouraged. Over 50 per cent of actors nominated for oscars are playing a real life character...whether dead or alive...either a hero or a villain...examples re will smith in 'ali', charlize theron in 'monster', meryl streep playd margaret thatcher in 'iron lady' nd won her 3rd oscar for dt. Real lyf events re depictd for d sake of historical awakening. In dis age where ppl, esp my naija peeps re quick to dissociate demselves frm dia background nd av no knowledge of history in d name of 'civilisatn' , biopics shud remind us wat av hapnd, d mistakes m ade nd hw it influencd odas. Currently, kathryn bigelow, d director of 'd hurt locker' is already shootin a movie entitld: 'zero dark thirty'on d capture nd killln of biladen. If nollywud had hardwrkin writers, d chance of a biopic shud b grabbd with all d upheavals happenin in Nigeria: d last days of yar'adua nd d power tussle dt occurrd den, boko haram bombings, nysc palaver, d last electn, d subsidy removal policy wc led to mother of all protests...nd so on, even d already-failing jonatan's tenure coupld wiv his wife's 'commendable' command of english lang. Der re countless issues dt cud b rily trashd out onscreen...dats y it nauseates me wen i c movies lyk 'blackberry babes'...WTF??!! Are people so dumb or wat? Tank God, izu ojukwu is already wrking on 'lions of 76', a seemingly biopic. Writers shud stop being lazy or stayin in dia comfort zones nd stop writing again nd again on hw a man maltreatd his gal in a relatnship, hw a jealous stepmoda used voodoo to get her wish or hw a wicked mother-in-law maltreat dia daughter-in-laws...we shud pls step up.
And finally, complete characters shud b developd in movies nd nt jst 'a pretty young woman' or 'one manager' or 'a housewife'....lyk d xters shud b more explored to make dem look more real...(gud writing or directin shud do dis)...thank you!

I av just finishd work on a dramatic comedy entitld: ' war against (in)discipline'...my motivatn for d script was to change d whole idea of comedy in nollywud..,dat it's abt playing foolhardy....d logline/plot goes thus: 'a disagreement ensues at a PTA meetin between two women who av sharply contrasting views of 'discipline'. Anoda parent der who hosts a talk show decides to air the two women and dia families on d episode where 'discipline' is d topic. D show begins...evrione is ready to display his or her wealth of knowledge...ignorance reaches its peak...and was later discovered the two women have more than 'discipline' uncommon to each other!'.
