European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)English Football Clubs Announces Social Media Boycott by Shuzzi(op):
English football has announced a collective effort to boycott social media over four days in response to sustained discriminatory abuse received online by players.

The FA, Premier League, EFL, FA Women’s Super League, FA Women’s Championship, PFA, LMA, PGMOL, Kick It Out, Women in Football and the FSA have united and will avoid using social media from 15:00 BST on 30 April to 23:59 on 3 May.

Official accounts on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram will go quiet across a full round of fixtures for the men’s and women’s professional game.

The move comes after players repeatedly experiencing racist abuse and discrimination following games, with the authorities calling on social media companies to eradicate online hate.

The joint-effort is designed to provoke more change from social media companies, with further calls to provide filtering, blocking and swift takedowns of offensive posts, an improved verification process and re-registration prevention, plus active assistance for law enforcement agencies to identify and prosecute originators of illegal content.

The focus of the boycott is at social media companies, but the joint-statement from English football’s authorities also urged the UK Government “to ensure its Online Safety Bill will bring in strong legislation to make social media companies more accountable for what happens on their platforms.”

Edleen John, The FA’s Director of International Relations, Corporate Affairs and Co-Partner for Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, said: “It’s simply unacceptable that people across English football and society more broadly continue to be subjected to discriminatory abuse online on a daily basis, with no real-world consequences for perpetrators.

“This needs to change quickly, and we continue to urge social media companies to act now to address this.

“Social media companies need to be held accountable if they continue to fall short of their moral and social responsibilities to address this endemic problem.”

While Premier League Chief Executive Richard Masters added: “Racist behaviour of any form is unacceptable and the appalling abuse we are seeing players receive on social media platforms cannot be allowed to continue.

“The Premier League and our clubs stand alongside football in staging this boycott to highlight the urgent need for social media companies to do more in eliminating racial hatred. We will not stop challenging social media companies and want to see significant improvements in their policies and processes to tackle online discriminatory abuse on their platforms.

“Football is a diverse sport, which brings together communities and cultures from all backgrounds and this diversity makes the competition stronger. No Room For Racism represents all the work we do to promote equality, diversity and inclusion and tackling discrimination.”

FashionMrs. Sri Lanka Pageant Controversy: Former Title Holder Snatches Winner's Crown by Shuzzi(op): 9:50am On Apr 08, 2021
Controversy erupted at the Mrs. Sri Lanka beauty pageant on Sunday, when a former title holder took the crown off the winner's head and falsely claimed she was a divorcee and therefore ineligible to take part.

Pushpika De Silva was named the competition winner to applause and cheers from spectators in the Sri Lankan capital Colombo. Video footage from the event showed organizers placing the winners' sash around De Silva and the crown on her head.

Shortly afterward, the pageant's 2019 winner and Mrs. World 2020, Caroline Jurie, took to the stage and picked up the microphone. "I have a small request," she said. "As for the Mrs. World Inc., there's a rule that you'll have to be married, and not divorced. So, I'm taking my first step saying that the crown goes to the first runner-up."

Jurie then turned to a stunned De Silva, forcefully took the crown off her head and placed it on the first runner-up, who broke into tears and thanked the judges as De Silva walked away.

The Mrs. World series is an international beauty pageant for married women, founded in 1984. The winners of each country's title advance to the Mrs. World competition to face off against each other. Under the rules of the pageant, contestants must be "married as of the date of entry."

After the incident, organizers declared De Silva the official winner of the pageant, and said in a statement that contestants who were "legally married" were allowed to compete.

De Silva said in a statement posted on Facebook on Monday that she was currently separated from her husband "for personal reasons," but they were not divorced. If she had been ineligible, she would have been removed from the competition at the start, she said.

In her statement, De Silva described the incident as an insult and decried Jurie's actions, saying true queens do not snatch other women's crowns. In a second statement posted on Facebook on Tuesday, De Silva added she had forgiven those involved.

Mrs. World Inc. organizers said in a news release that they are reviewing the incident.

"We are deeply disturbed and sincerely regret the behavior of our current title holder, Mrs. Caroline Jurie, Mrs. World 2020, at the crowning," the statement said, adding the director of the Mrs. Sri Lanka pageant will be asking Jurie to apologize.

"Let it be known, Mrs. World Inc. does not sit in moral judgment," the organizers' statement said. "If the delegate sent by Mrs. Sri Lanka-World to compete in the international competition is legally married she will be accepted."

De Silva is said to have sustained injuries in the Scalp after the incident.

CelebritiesKim Kardashian Joins The Billionaire's Club by Shuzzi(op): 5:00pm On Apr 06, 2021
When Kim Kardashian West was first mentioned in the pages of Forbes in 2011, it was simply a tally of her Twitter followers: 6.6 million, just below Barack Obama and just above Ashton Kutcher. Five years later, she graced the cover of Forbes thanks to her booming mobile game, which helped her earn $51 million that year. Now, she officially joins the World’s Billionaires list for the first time.

Forbes estimates that Kardashian West is now worth $1 billion, up from $780 million in October, thanks to two lucrative businesses—KKW Beauty and Skims—as well as cash from reality television and endorsement deals, and a number of smaller investments.

Kardashian West founded KKW Beauty in 2017, following the success of her half-sister Kylie Jenner’s Kylie Cosmetics. She borrowed from Kylie’s playbook, using a similar direct-to-consumer model that relies heavily on social media marketing. Her first launch, 300,000 contour kits, sold out within two hours. By 2018, the business had expanded into eyeshadows, concealers, lipsticks and fragrances, and was bringing in about $100 million in revenue.

"It’s the first time I've moved away from having licensing deals and transitioned into being an owner," Kardashian West told Forbes in 2017, when she announced her cosmetics line.

She cashed in on that ownership last year when she sold 20% of KKW Beauty to cosmetics conglomerate Coty for $200 million, a deal that valued the company at $1 billion. While Forbes estimates that figure is a little bloated—Coty, which also bought 51% of Kylie Cosmetics in 2020, is known for overpaying—her remaining 72% stake is still worth about $500 million, by our count.

Then there’s Skims, the shapewear line Kardashian West launched in 2019. She raised money from fashion insiders like Net-a-Porter’s Natalie Massane and Theory’s Andrew Rosen, and capitalized on her massive social media following to shill the brand. (She now has 69.6 million Twitter followers and 213 million followers on Instagram.) Skims has been quick on its feet: During the pandemic, when consumers became more interested in comfy clothes for the couch than in smoothing their stomachs under evening gowns, she swiftly started turning the focus to loungewear.

Kardashian West owns a majority stake in closely-held Skims, which hasn’t disclosed its revenues. A source familiar with Skims told Forbes about a transaction that values the shapewear company north of $500 million. As a result, Forbes estimates her Skims stake is worth a conservative $225 million, enough to lift her fortune to $1 billion.

The rest of Kardashian West’s fortune sits in cash and investments, including real estate. Every year since 2012, she has earned at least $10 million pretax, by Forbes’ count, thanks to paychecks from Keeping Up With the Kardashians, endorsement deals and endeavors like the aforementioned mobile game and her now-defunct Kimoji app. She’s also got three properties in Calabasas, northwest of Los Angeles, and a portfolio of blue-chip investments, including shares of Disney, Amazon, Netflix and Adidas that her soon-to-be ex-husband Kanye West gifted her for Christmas in 2017.

But it’s the companies that she has launched herself, and grown with the typical Kardashian flare for self-promotion, that land her on the World’s Billionaires list. As she tweeted the day she made the cover of Forbes, mocking the criticism she’s received for years: “Not bad for a girl with no talent.”

CrimeDaughter Reports Dad To Police, Alleges Five Year Defilement by Shuzzi(op):
12-year-old girl has accused her 49-year-old father, Ubong Akpan, of sleeping with her since she was seven.

The victim said the sexual molestation had been going on for the past five years, and when she could no longer bear it, she decided to complain to the police.

Akpan was arrested following a report lodged at the Itele Ota Divisional Police Headquarters by the victim, who reported that her father was unlawfully having carnal knowledge of her.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, disclosed this in Abeokuta on Monday.

Oyeyemi said, “Upon the report, the DPO, Itele-Ota Division, CSP Monday Unoegbe, detailed his detectives to the scene, where the suspect was promptly arrested.

“On interrogation, he confessed to the crime and claimed that his wife was appearing too old and no longer looking attractive to him.”

The PPRO said the Commissioner of Police, Edward Ajogun, had ordered the immediate transfer of the case to the Family Support Unit of the Ota Area Command for further investigation and prosecution.

Oyeyemi added that the commissioner also directed that the victim be taken to the general hospital for proper medical treatment.

HealthWHO Chief, 14 Countries Accuse China Of Witholding Data On Covid-19 Origins by Shuzzi(op): 12:50pm On Mar 31, 2021
It was supposed to offer insight into the origins of the Covid-19 pandemic. But since its release on Tuesday, the long-awaited World Health Organization investigation has drawn criticism from governments around the world over accusations it is incomplete and lacks transparency.

In a joint statement, the United States and 13 other governments, including the United Kingdom, Australia and South Korea, expressed concerns over the study's limited access to "complete, original data and samples."

The European Union issued its own statement, expressing the same concerns in slightly softer language. The criticism follows an admission from WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, that investigators faced problems during their four-week mission to the central Chinese city of Wuhan, where the coronavirus was first detected in December 2019.

In a news briefing Tuesday, Tedros appeared to contradict the study's central findings by suggesting the theory that the virus escaped from a Wuhan laboratory should be followed up -- even though the report noted such a possibility was "extremely unlikely" and did not recommend further research on the hypothesis.

The WHO investigation, conducted more than a year after the initial outbreak, came under intense scrutiny from the outset. Some scientists and the US government have questioned the independence and credibility of the study, raising concerns over Chinese government influence. Beijing, meanwhile, has accused Washington and others of "politicizing" the origin of the virus.

After repeated delays, the WHO report, compiled by a team of international experts and their Chinese counterparts, was finally released on Tuesday. It provides a detailed examination of the data collected by Chinese scientists and authorities from the early days of the pandemic, but offers little new insight or concrete findings on where and how the virus spread to humans.

China has vehemently rejected any criticism or blame related to its handling of the pandemic.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry said in a statement Tuesday that China has always been "a supporter for global scientific research on the source of the virus and its transmission routes."

"The Chinese side offered necessary facilitation for the team's work, fully demonstrating its openness, transparency and responsible attitude," the statement said, adding the study of origins should also be conducted in other countries.

Tuesday's joint statement, signed by the US and its allies, recognized the WHO experts' "tireless work" to understand how the pandemic started, but also raised questions over the timing and independence of the report.

"It is equally essential that we voice our shared concerns that the international expert study on the source of the SARS-CoV-2 virus was significantly delayed and lacked access to complete, original data and samples."

The public rebuke from the US and others further highlights the difficulty of conducting transparent and independent scientific research into the origins of the virus, which has infected more than 128 million people and killed over 2.8 million worldwide, according to Johns Hopkins University data.

Data access

Speaking in the briefing Tuesday, WHO chief Tedros conceded the international experts faced problems with data access in Wuhan.

"In my discussions with the team, they expressed the difficulties they encountered in accessing raw data. I expect future collaborative studies to include more timely and comprehensive data sharing," said Tedros, who had previously faced criticism that his agency was too close to China.

Dominic Dwyer, an Australian infectious diseases expert and member of the WHO team, told Reuters last month the team had requested raw patient data on the 174 early cases in Wuhan in December 2019, but was refused and provided only with a summary instead.

In its own statement, the EU said the report was a "helpful first step," but it regretted "the late start of the study, the delayed deployment of the experts and the limited availability of early samples and related data."

"Only through a thorough review of the origins of the virus and its transmission into the human population, will we be able to better understand and control this pandemic, and to better prevent and prepare for future health emergencies," the statement said.

In comparison, the response from the US government was much more direct and strongly-worded.

"The report lacks crucial data, information and data access -- and represents a partial, incomplete picture," White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said at a briefing.

She said Chinese authorities "have not been transparent, have not provided underlying data -- that certainly does not qualify as cooperation."

"[The report] doesn't lead us to any closer of an understanding or greater knowledge than we had six to nine months ago about the origin," she said.

Political hurdle

The report examines four possible ways the coronavirus could have emerged, and concludes that it is most likely to have spread to humans from an intermediate animal host -- a belief long held by scientists. But it did not answer crucial questions on how that transmission happened.

It recommends further studies to trace the animals sold at markets in and around Wuhan, including interviewing workers at wildlife farms and testing them for coronavirus antibodies.

The report also says it is "extremely unlikely" the virus leaked from a laboratory incident -- a theory promoted by the previous Trump administration and fiercely denied by the Chinese government.

"We just found no really tangible evidence or real leads on that, despite asking a lot of quite hard questions that were asked to the Wuhan Institute of Virology," Dr. Peter Daszak, a member of the WHO team of experts who visited Wuhan, told CNN.

"They tested all of the staff in the bat coronavirus group for coronaviruses, for SARS-CoV-2, to see if they'd been infected, and they were negative," he said.

But critics say the report has failed to provide concrete evidence to dismiss that possibility.

On Tuesday, WHO head Tedros said the report's assessment on the lab leak theory was not "extensive enough," and further data and studies would be needed to reach more robust conclusions.

"Although the team has concluded that a laboratory leak is the least likely hypothesis, this requires further investigation, potentially with additional missions involving specialist experts, which I am ready to deploy," Tedros said.

Peter Ben Embarek, the lead investigator for the WHO mission, told the briefing the report was "only the start," admitting "we've only scratched the surface of these very complex set of studies that need to be conducted."

The report makes a series of recommendations for further studies, including testing for for coronavirus antibodies in samples collected through blood banks prior to the Wuhan outbreak.

Daszak said there was currently no plan set for the WHO mission to return to China to conduct further studies.

"The understanding (is) that the next phase of this work will be to follow those recommendations and begin those studies, and we're already talking to the China side about our next steps and how we can help that happen," he said.

But some analysts warned concerns that have overshadowed the WHO study could haunt future research, especially as relations deteriorate between China and Western countries.

"The thing is that you won't avoid politics," said Yanzhong Huang, a senior fellow for global health at the US based Council on Foreign Relations.

Huang said he did not expect the investigation to be transparent, WHO to play an independent leadership role, or China to be fully cooperative in the probe as long as a "political hurdle" remained.
