What course are you going for? BenedictStinson: Is there anyone here in or does anyone here know about Northern College Timmins Ontario it was one of the colleges I applied too in order to have eggs in many baskets and Got acceptance recently but after trying to do some research about the place and town, I'm quite sceptical. Apparently it's a small town of only about 42,000 people, very cold winters, 8 hours away from Toronto by Road and a very high crime rate plus there is very low internet chatter about the school compared to other Ontario colleges. So please is there anyone with first hand experience that can shed more light on this? |

I am one person that never wants to leave Nigeria cause of the issues and racism abroad. But that changed when Buhari declared to run for 2nd term in 2018. I was livid and knew he will win and the decay n destruction going on post 2015 will be worst
My fear was for my children, is this the environment i want them to flourish in? So 2018 i began with wes runs, did ietls 2018 ,2019 got into the EE pool with a low score,2019 I pushed my husband to write ietls while his wes runs was completed.
Still we didn't make high scores, so i channelled my quest to pnp, got ita twice from Saskatchewan pnp, and twice the relative that gave me the sponsorship in Saskatchewan declined.
So back to ground zero, 2020 i went for another ietls while 7month pregnant , i received gbas, gbos, chai, then Corona lock down.
Ending 2020 i began searching for schools and applied to different colleges, cos i had 2.2 undergrad and and MBA so i felt getting direct master was impossible
2021 got my admission from centennial college to read project management.
1st app july 16 refused In September or so 2nd app Nov refused jan 20th This 2 app i used Centennial admission, and Gcms notes on both occasions stated lower degree from what i currently have in masters and no job prospects in home country.
After the 1st refusal i started looking for schools for masters. The process was very very daunting, i applied to Royal road Bc and Crandall University NB
Crandall came through for me(Master in Org Management) 3rd App 1st May ppr July 25th 2022
My patience was tested on this journey, i have already started plan b moves to Uk, that by Jan i will be on my way out,as i have 3 Admissions from uk schools in the bag for me.

Glad you landed safely and settling in good. Great guy! I'll share my PPR news soonest too. Ketima: Landing Gist!
So on 12th of June, I set out to imo airport to board flight to Lagos for travel slated on the 14th june.
Flight info
Airline: Ethiopian airline, Air Canada, WestJet Time of flight: 1:40pm. Route: LAGOS - ADDIS ABABA - DUBLIN - TORONTO - CALGARY - SASKATOON.
On the 14th, left house for MM1, got there around 9:30-10am for 1:40 flight. As I entered, went to immigration abi na custom people. Crowd was there. I gave them 1k and left without my luggage searched. From there, I went to agriculture unit, they said I will pay 2k for every bag ( I had 3 luggage with 1 hand luggage and laptop bag). I got angry there cos when I brought out money to pay them, they said I should stop showing the money that camera will see it that they only accept POS. There I knew that the money was illegal. Na there I knew I had I'm on top. At the end of the day, I paid 1k with thank you sir from them. The gave me a letter of declaration of the items I have. The didn't check it. Was only asking me and I'm telling them. From there I left to Ethiopian airline stand. I was asked to weigh the bag, Omo the kg was overwhelming but what was more overwhelming was the price I was asked to pay for excess. Now this the tip if you're to use Ethiopian airline when travelling and you have excess luggage, do what is called upgrade of your luggage instead of extra luggage (outside the 2 23kg/bag allocation). This will make you to pay lesser. Paying for extra luggage is higher than paying for upgrade. Upgrade is where you upgrade your 23kg to a 32kg. So at the end, I reduced my luggage to 2 overweight bag. Each weighing 31kg. If you have extra bag, even if is by just 1kg, you will be charged for the cost of 23kg. Also, know how to woo those guys weighing the luggage. I handed him 3k, told him to reduce the weight of the to 28kg ad 25kg respectively. So he wrote it down on my luggage for me and in the piece of pepper which I used to go pay. But know this may backfire cos, as I went to tag my bag and drooped it on the weighing lever, the guy said it was reading 31kg but what's on my payment receipt is 25kg and 28kg. But it passed. So be mindful when doing this part. It may not work for you. Someone before me paid 314k for extra luggage while I paid 46k for upgrade of my 2 luggage.
From there, I proceeded to fill the yellow card, wrote the address I intend to stay at the back, went to immigration officers. Who stamped on my passport. Then to custom officers who scanned my hand luggage and laptop bag. From there I went to my gate for boarding.
Note: I was only asked to show my ArriveCan, passport, COVID-19 vaccination card (I'm fully vaccinated)
By 1:40, we all boarded and ready to move. We left at about 1:50pm if not mistaken. We got to Addis Ababa exactly 9pm Ethiopian time and 7pm Nigeria time. Went through immigration check. Then head to gate for boarding to Dublin. We left just after 10pm Ethiopian time. Not sure the exact time. Here, I was asked nothing. Just to show my ticket and passport. He wished me safe flight.
Past 10pm, our flight left for Dublin (7hrs+ flight). We got to Dublin around 5am, Dublin time and Nigeria time. We didn't go down the airline. Crew and pilot was changed. Plane cleaned and refuelled. 45mins later, we left for TORONTO.
8:10am, we got to Toronto. I only have one word for Pearson international airport. MIGHTY. Mehn this airport is big. From where we disembarked to where I went for self declaration na marathon. Please if possible, let your carry on bag be the one with leg(roller) that you can drag. I suffered carrying my bag and laptop. Please also no form oo. Ask questions oo. The airport is MM1*5. So I got to declaration form machine, placed my passport, then answered questions asked by the machine. After submission, it took my picture and gave me a printout. I took the printout to where to get the my permit. I got there and stayed on the queue. It got to my turn. He asks for my passport. I gave him. He asked is it my first time. I said yes. He said congrats. Printed my permit and stamped my passport and said welcome to Canada. Under a min, I was done. I was even thinking maybe he isn't done. I asked him is that all, he smiled and said yes. I left there to go pick my luggage.
After picking my luggage, I checked it in for my next flight to Calgary. Here another wahala began. The gate Ethiopian airline printed on my ticket wasn't the gate of my flight. After walking miles to find the gate, I stayed there. When it was my time, nothing was happening at the gate, I was surprised. Still I was waiting cos that's the gate on my ticket. Little did I know I was on the wrong gate. So as nothing was happening on the gate, I went to another gate to find out, I was told that I'm at the wrong gate and my flight is almost done boarding that I should run oo. Before I could get there, I was told the gate is closed that I should go change my flight to next one at the customer service office. Already my luggage was already checked in. So I now had to wait for another 4hrs for my new fly time. So please, if you're using Ethiopian airline, when you get to Air Canada, be asking them about your flight. Your flight gate might be wrong oo. I made the mistake, don't make same mistake.
Got to Calgary around 5pm, Calgary time. By then my luggage was already waiting for me. I picked it and waited for my family to pick me up.
So I will be here for a month before moving to saskatoon, my final destination.
Canada is neat. Chilling at the park now flexing.
All of us waiting for PPR shall surely come to this Canada.
Currently roaming my Gloline here. It changes from Beno to Telus.
My final note is, if you're flying with Ethiopian airline, please just be mindful of your self. Alot of drug peddlers going to Oman, Brazil, etc use them. So be mindful when someone just becomes unusually friendly.
Wish us all the best ok. |

Congratulations once again. I tap into your blessings. My PPR is next in Jesus name Chiziteremary: Good morning all.
Thanks to all who congratulated me. I would like to share my timeline and what i did differently in my 2nd application because i believe this will help someone.
1st Application was submitted 1st Dec 2021 Refusal was recvd 25/2/2022
From my gcm notes i discovered what i did wrong was the fact that i used my brother as additional sponsor. Even though i am self sponsor but i decided to add my brothers account for additional comfort which wasnt necessary after all. I already paid 16kcad for 1st year fees and had sufficient funds to take care of the 2nd year fees and my upkeep in my personal account. The VO's concern with my brothers account was that his payslips werent included and there were lumpsums in his account. Well for some reason my broda didnt want to give me statement of his salary account. He only gave me statement of a join account with his wife where he saves money ( he lives in the USA)
What i did differently
I never wanted to use an agent because of the cost implication and because i believed i could do it myself but i was led by the Holy spirit to use @Frankrobbin. So i decided to go ahead with him, the guy is quite professional i must say though he is so busy that you need to keep calling his attention.
The guy advised me to get professional valuation for my land and building which i did. He also advised that based on my age i shouldn't have bothered with a sponsor outside myself or hubby ( i am over 45yrs). In addition he rearranged all my documents and made them easier for the VO to see all because i had lots of documents.
I highly recommend Frank any day because he is very very professional. I didnt give him breathing space, i must confess that i wanted my application submitted fast fast because my school was meant to Start May 9th.
I also want to appreciate @Anon123, @NorthernshoreLS. NorthernshoreLS thanks a lot, you were the person to 1st advice me to use Frank even though i didnt want to initially. This forum is indeed full of wonderful brothers and sisters.
My prayer is that we shall all get our PPR's soonest in Jesus name.
Amen |

Thank you for the clarification. God bless folla: Yes, that was what the VO stated in the gcms note.
Members on this forum then were of the view that having stated that her family was non-accompanying, we should have waited for my wife to travel and settle down first, fir at least 3 months prior to submission of our applications.
I think I agree with that notion, except one had indicated that the family would accompany. |
Travel › Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 21 by sinorte: 1:00pm On Jul 01, 2022 |
Congratulations to you and your family. Did you mean the initial application was refused because your wife stated in her SP application that you were not going to accompany her to Canada and, more so, because she hadn't left Nigeria then? Please clarify. folla: WHAT GOD CANNOT DO, DOES NOT EXIST!
God has shown mercy to me and my children.
My SOWP and my 3 children's Study Visa applications have been approved by IRCC.
1st Applications
Our 1st applications made in June 2021 were all refused on 25th September 2021. The main concern of the VO, as revealed in the GCMS note, was that my wife, who is a Masters student in BC, filled on her application form that her family would not accompany her to Canada. The VO questioned the truthfulness of my wife's statement in her application, when we now applied for visas while she was still in Nigeria. VO said other things which we considered circumstantial.
I came on this platform then to seek for advice and I really obtained valuable advice from members. What did we do?
2nd Applications
We filed another set of applications on 8th November 2021 with my wife explaining the reasons for her change in plan. We filed additional documents showing stronger home ties by exhibition of pictures of our parents, affidavits of birth of our parents and affidavit of births of my siblings. I also exhibited share certificate, receipt of payment of professional dues, together with landed property. I showed rent receipts issued to our tenants.
Along the line, my wife wrote her MP sometime in February 2022 seeking for a status update on our applications. The response was that criminality check was passed and nothing more. Our upfront medicals expired in April 2022, but I refused to go for any more upfront medicals. If they are ready, they will contact us. I was drained, both emotionally and psychologically, noting that the journey began in June 2021. I only held on to God, as a lot was at stake.
There was a time I read an email IRCC had sent to someone here requesting for updated transcripts of his student spouse. I took the initiative by sending my wife's updated transcripts sometime in late April 2022. I have a feeling this had a positive impact on our applications.
Boom, medical request showed for my children and I on 16th May 2022. We quickly sent an email to QLife who gave us an appointment in about 9 days later. Medicals were updated to "pass" for my children on 7th June, while they got their PPR on 9th June. For me, my medical was updated to "pass" on 8th June, while my PPR only came on 29th June.
In between my children's PPR and 29th June, I sent their passports to Abuja the penultimate Monday and we received the stamped passports on 28th June. I almost sent another webform on 29th June with the plan to exhibit my children's visas and seeking a quick response on my application. By 9am on 29th June, 2 "donotreply" emails had come into my inbox.
My wife travelled to BC since September 2021, leaving me with 3 active boys, while IRCC kept playing the delay game. Thank God it has ended in praise.
I wish to say a big thank you to members on this forum who were responsive to my questions at the relevant times. Really appreciate.
To everyone still waiting, hang on there. It's not over until you have won. You can't afford to give up. Keep praying and sending the webforms, the golden emails will surface shortly.
Thank you All! |

Funny enough, I wasn’t really focused on moving to canada, my priority was Portugal, because I read about many refusals and long wait time.
However, after I got medical request, I became interested and anxious, so reactivated my Nairaland account. I was shocked when I came I on Nairaland Saw different applicants with extremely well packaged applications backed with with so many documents and I felt like Omoh, I no serious oo, lol. But God did it!
Afterwards, I spoke to Frank global, Makano and Anon, they all said once I had gotten a medical request that my application was as good as approved, they gave me so much hope and I wanna take this opportunity to express my heartfelt gratitude to them. God bless you my bosses.
