No woman enjoys having her food rejected by her husband especially not after the amount of time and effort put into preparing it so yes,it could count as punishment for the woman.
For a man to reject food though,he must have had something to eat out or plans to so its hardly punishment.Worse case..there'd always be Mai suya at some corner of the street to take care of that.All i know is its unhealthy and childish.Couples should communicate their issues verbally instead of resorting to this.

I've got married friends whose house i'm always welcome at for any length of time (though discretionary) i want to stay both by them and husbands and these ones i'd have no problem having over too anyday (if i were married and with hubby's consent). Same way i've got friends i'd never welcome to stay more than a few hours in my house just because of who i know them to be.
The operative line should be -Knowing who your husband is and knowing who your friend is.
