Congrats on your cgpa.

1. You need to check what each school has to offer, then decide (personally) which one suits you best. You can start from here: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/study/institutions/participants.asp & narrow it down to schools with your choice of program.

2. The admission process could actually be a job on its own but not difficult. I think you check the requirements of the school and follow their instructions to the letter.

3. Like oga onye oma said, most of the departments could actually be very competitive, but impossible is nothing with God on your side.

4. I just googled that but couldn't come up with a definitive answer, sorry.

5. Yes, I suppose.

6. You could use any of our 9ja debit cards; they work.

Thanks. Abeg oga onye oma will help you with more info as he said.

Cheers.
damochewinner: Please I need some peeps in here to help me with some clarifications:

I graduated with 3.52 Chemical Engineering, and Canada is on my mind for my Masters come September 2014.

1. what school will you advice me to apply to?
2. what's the prospect of securing admission without too much wahala?
3. what about scholarship positions, teaching or research assitanship?
4. which province has the least cost of living?
5. is it possible to legalize after someones phd?
6. what method of payment is advisable to settle ones application fee since I don't have a credit card?

Thanks and una weldone oooo

ps: do I necessary need toefl?

Hello house,

Bn a while. Bn a really busy half-term here but thanks to God for His unfailing grace.

Congrats to all in the house issued trvs lately and I also wish those expecting, good news.

For guys coming in for Winter, like the veterans on this thread keep saying, get yourselves some good clothings at least, for the first few days of arriving. You can always get what suits the weather here when you arrive.

Also, if not going for the school housing, you can start looking up accommodations on kijiji.com & rentfaster.ca.

Good luck.

Wao! Was really a pleasure meeting with @GboyegaD. No doubt a scholar of note & an extremely intelligent fellow, even though I could only assess these for the very short while we met. @Nuendo & @Dictalpha are my brothers here in Calgary we've been relating since the week (even back in 9ja) & I count myself enormously blessed to have these very intelligent & good people in the circle of my acquaintances.

@all: God's blessings on everyone. Cheers.

GboyegaD: Nuendo, Dictalpha, and Smiles13:
If you are attending the Graduate Student Orientation today, I am sitting on the 5th seat from the left, 5rows from the back opposite the main projector to your left when you come into the hall. I am wearing a grey camoflague shorts with a black polo and a grey sweater. I have with me a green backpack for ease of identification.

In fact, it's really been nice. After checking through almost all banks' cash machines around campus, they all have charges ranging from about $1.5CAD to $2CAD but I discovered that TD Canada Trust does not take this fee. You only have the basic N420 GTBank fee and the exchange rate made so much sense. This is actually contrary to my past experience in the UK.
GboyegaD:

My brother, I'm truly enjoying it. No charges whatsoever and I think the exchange rate is the global exchange rate. In the past few days, it exchange at about N158.64/1CAD$ and 1CAD$/0.9497US$. The fee on ATM transaction is N420 and between CAD$1.6 and CAD$1.75 depending on whose terminal you are withdrawing from, while my US bank charges US$5. In essence, I can tell that the Naira Debit MasterCard is excellent and works on all terminals since most of their terminals here are chip and pin oriented.

Travel / Re: Travelling To Canada Part 4 by smile13: 5:19am On Sep 06, 2013
Please, ensure you have all documents ready, then scan & upload as a single pdf document. You cannot send in any other document either by email, post or other means after you might have submitted online.
Abellybaba: Pls how does online application works, i need to scan all documents to them, do i need to send any other document by mail? i thought they always request for hard copy of the letter of acceptance? pls enlighten me big brothers. thanks
Travel / Re: Travelling To Canada Part 4 by smile13: 5:02am On Sep 05, 2013
It was only my passport that the immigration officer requested for and was able to produce my study permit with it. I guess they have the information already but it is advised that you get the letter because it was asked from some other people I learnt. @Nuendo went to CDHC to request for it before leaving the country and it (the introduction letter) was issued same day.
Shadams:

@Don, Pwunmi and others. Many congrats on your trv. Praying for more. @huzzie, speaking for myself; I guess it will be a privilege to serve the house from there. What Oga Siga and Fhemmmy does here inspires me a lot. Who doesn't want to follow in the path of greatness?

Meanwhile, Shayi12 asked about a letter of introduction. We collected our trv same day at cdhc, and I wasn't given one. Just saw that my passport was stamped. Is this letter of intro an absolute to enter? Would the passport and letter of acceptance/admission not be sufficient?

Hoping to hear from someone..thanks aplenty!

Police clearance at Alagbon in Lagos should be about 3k & 5k max and the medical examination at The Consultants' Practice @ Ikoyi as at July was 28k.
sparta_300: Hello house, I'm glad to see the number of pple using online route increase. I too am using it.
I believe it should be a quicker approach espcially for Jan intake. Just make u settle down n read the instructions before submitting.
U can get more info from here.
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/guides/5269ETOC.asp
Also for those that have done their medicals and police clearance, pls what is the cost range for them irrespectively?

Bro, I believe ur TRV is a settled matter; we can't wait for it to be officially issued. It is well my brother.

Cheers.
Nuendo: Good evening house,

I see there has been a lot of traffic since morning. let me start by congratulating all those who were issued their TRV's today. Oga federal and Kjbobo. God is doing it small small. We shall all get there. I also wish to encourage those who have been denied . I want to tell them to see it as a delay from God and not CDHC. They are just his instruments. Go back, repackage and re-fire. Ask God for wisdom and this time around, try not to be so silent on the forum (i.e for the silent followers). If you have questions, come out here and ask. You can hardly go wrong with the level of expertise and experience on here. You shall be successful in your next attempt.

On my trip to the CDHC this morning, I did the usual inquiry form and submitted and after a while, I got a call from a sexy voice saying I should be patient that my passport is still being processed.

Submitted on May 2 via VFS,
Medical call : 19th July ,
Medics Done :25th July ,
Resubmitted passport : 26th July.

I am also in touch with others who did medicals on the same day. Most are still yet to get a reply. On or two have gotten. Summary for me is that I have decided to take the final dose (hopefully ) of chill pill till next week. I have also been directed by my spirit to book flights and schedule for payment of fees and accommodation with my brodas smile13 and dictaplpha who are headed in the same direction as i hope to . I am doing all this by faith and I believe my TRV would come on or before Tuesday. God has brought me this far, he wouldn't leave me or you.

Good Luck to all the fall applicants and medical awaitees. Also congrats to my list curator earthgreeners whose spirit since part 3 has been outstanding. My other ogas dem, Siga, Fhemmy, gboyegaD, Onye Oma, Huzzie, and the other ogas i might have omitted , una too much i swear! . My new ChrigO 2.0 *limited edition*, i hail oh. God would surely answer your prayers.

Have a blessed weekend all.

U r correct....I have the visa gold card...it is denominated in US dollar and I used it to pay for my application fees in canada and it works perfectly well...you can equally use it to withdraw naira here in our atm machine.
It has an atm pin and I pin....it is multipose and highly accepted anywhere in the world.

Cheers.
Travel / Re: Travelling To Canada Part 4 by smile13: 8:26pm On Aug 19, 2013
Bros, thank for the info. I appreciate.

I've used something almost similar to that too from GTBank and still, when used for purchases from a merchant whether online or offline where the primary denomination is not the US dollars, the rates they use are always excessively on the high side. Just yesterday when I made payment with my GTBank Naira mastercard for my university hostel committal fee, GTBank used a rate of =N182 to $1CAD!

This tin tire me bro, I no go lie.
Onye oma:

Bro,
Make I add my lil opinion though say I never cross Atlantic ocean before ooo...

As Faith would have it,being a medical hopeful, I've already applied for a VISA GOLD CARD @ 1st BANK of Nigeria Plc,waiting to collect it any moment from now. It is a stand alone a/c and is operated in dollars...opening balance $100...min bal $19...charge per withdrawal anywhere in the world $1.5...yearly charge $15...
NOTE: Some hotels and supermakets round globe offer discounts on purchases/reservations made with visa gold card ßuђ this is not applicable to VISA prepaid...

They also issue VISA PREPAID card(also a stand alone a/c ßuђ operated in Naira) and pays you in the currency used anywhere you wanna withdraw(just like mastercard)...charge per withdrawal #240...opening balance #3000 or thereabout...no annual charge...

I believe this can do a gud job...

PLEASE ooo, My papa/mama or none of my family members dey work for 1st bank...just advertising a product I feel might solve our challenges.

Besides that,1st Bank na MASTER...anytime anyday...

Other banks might as well have similar products, just walk in and inquire about VISA GOLD OR VISA PREPAID card...
Travel / Re: Travelling To Canada Part 4 by smile13: 7:34pm On Aug 19, 2013
I guess one might still need to. Don't forget the dollar mastercard you're talking about is denominated in US dollars and currency in Canada is the Canadian dollar. The same 'very bad' conversion rate will still be used. Also, the Naira mastercard also gets accepted in virtually any payment points displaying the mastercard logo, though I don't know about Canada but sure for some European countries. I'm at a loss as to how to get some cash with me to Canada pending when one will open a bank account .
Chatters:

If you have a dollar credit card you don't need to worry about the exchange rate. Which ever card you are getting should be in dollars. This way your card doesn't get rejected at some outlets. Please avoid naira credit /debit card. Go for dollars.
