Back in the days we had a sensible forum here with some sensible mods. Mukina, michelin, spiked cylinder, oyinbogoju...mods who had seen the world. It was a joy reading topics here. The homepage was a no-nonsense place. Right now, the condition of Nairaland is more pathetic than all of Nigeria's problems put together. Kids with Chinese phone and data loaded into it has literally hacked this site. I fail to fathom how someone who plays a "supermod" here wouldn't know the difference between Bangladesh and India. 1 Like |

Oh Lord ! The way people are praising that unarmed robber ! They think its perfectly OK to steal and get away with it. Its your birth right to steal. One 'gentle soul' had the audacity to even say its your husbands money, why are you after the poor girl's life if he is not bothered ? Like the thief in disguise had more right to the man's hard earned money than his better half. Na this girl go become someone's wife and mother some day..chai ! Continue to hail her , she'd be reading this somewhere and basking in her new found stardom ! And let this inspire others who wish to follow suit. 5 Likes |

Do you think the world knows you as ibo, yoruba, hausa? The ones who live outside Nigeria should come and tell us if anyone truly cares which state you hail from once you leave shores of the nation? They are so blinded by the false hopes of overnight riches and fail to see that their adventures only end up disgracing this great nation in front of the whole world. Youngsters these days have become like Esau who traded his birthright for a bowl of stew, sacrificing the future and the legacy of the nation for momentary pleasure and cheap thrills. And then they blame the polticians for their condition...are you any better? |

Brugo: Nope, you are wrong. I have worked in a corporate office where I was bombarded with work so much that I never found time to ease myself for 12 straight hours. We are not talking about a day or two here. So much of time was spent in front of computers that I had to be rushed to the hospital due to an extreme dry eye that caused my eyes to turn a bright red and excruciating pain. I developed a severe back issue at the age of 25 from long working hours and bad posture. Im still paying for the breathing issues developed from centralized Ac. I used to be severely humilated in meetings and appraisals during my intial years. Couple that with pay that was inversely propotional to my effort, qualification and hardwork. But I survived. Never for once did I make a face at my superiors nor create a fuss. If I was wronged I would let me them know I was not okay with their decision in a civilized manner. Your bosses are there for a reason and you need to respect that reason. And boy did I enjoy the fruit of my patience. When I look back now, I wouldn't have been here had it not been for those turbulent years. But can the newbies survive? Can they withstand the pressures of corporate world? I doubt. I whole heartedly agree with you about treating employees right. Infact every human being deserves respect , irrespective of their class and caliber. In this guy's case its different though. As someone who has had the time to come here and read through these posts, I don't think its a crime to make one or two extra clicks and go through his previous posts. Every story has more than one side to it. If you ever become a decision maker, try to listen to both sides before making a final decision. Assuming the OP has not deleted it, you'd see he's had issues with former employers. Going by his language he's making up the whole stuff or he's got real issues. I still find it difficult to believe someone would throwaway jobs for trivial issues like Air conditioner et al. |

@achicares Saddened with the reckless behavior of this generation. How can someone throw away his jobs on something as trivial as an Air conditioner ? Imagine, securing a job and then fighting with senior staff for AC remote and end up being sacked. If this chap finds every job as a glorified version of slavery he should sit at home. Let a more deserving candidate get that job instead. DonCaxton:Why do YOU sound hurt kiddo? Oh wait, you fall in that category, don't you ? Touche ! I have said it before and will say it again...Nigerians (for now let's stick to the ones on this forum) are a proud bunch who loves to complain at the drop of a hat . I'm beginning to suspect if its the food, air, modern education or the exposure to technology that has turned this generation to something so terrible. They can't frame a sentence in proper English, spend all their waking hours bragging about things they have barely experienced, while away their life living off one rich/well to do relative, believe they have a luxurious life ahead without moving as much as a small finger for it and blame all and sundry except themselves when they fail to achieve something that remotely resembles a decent life. An employable youngster in Nigeria is becoming more like a myth. Even if the person is educated , he or she will be greedy, egoistic and lazy.I can vouch for the fact that 95% who commented on this thread are not employed. The long narrative describing how I thrashed him, how I put him in his place etc are nothing but figments of imagination. The minute they start their work after years of unemployment will be the minute they start comparing themselves to their bosses. The very man who gave you a chance suddenly becomes your opponent. When you misbehave, its called self respect , putting him in his place, blah blah blah. When the man who has built an organization toiling day and night asks you for something ,he becomes the rude despicable monster. In the OP's story wasn't the OP daft too? Who would t listen to your boss' personal phonecalls? Weren't you taught about privacy ? As if that is not enough this guy kept playing and replaying imaginary scenes in his mind each time he was asked something. I can only imagine what the Oga would have felt. Someone who found time to drink cups of coffee should have definitely found time to munch something, but no ..he wont as he is busy playing the victim. A man is enjoying his AC with the money HE EARNED after going through God knows what, but this fool here compares his own Air conditioner with his oga's within the first month of being employed. How many of you here, including the OP, would give up your own AC and other luxuries for your employees or for that matter your loved ones ? :/ Nobody, I repeat, nobody is born with the perfect life. If they've got the money, they would have some other issue. Learn to turn your disappointment into a blessing. Edited : I took the pain to go through your previous posts OP. You are one haughty egoistic selfish being with worrisome temper issues. I'm sure you are still single or will soon be one with this attitude of yours. 1 Like |
Politics / Re: Nigeria's Reputation For Crime Made Them Unwelcome In Britain - Buhari by Smilenw(f): 3:48pm On Feb 06, 2016 |
Mr.Buhari is not far from truth. One good look at the comments on this thread alone proves him right. Which other country on earth would have its citizens calling their Presidents names like the ones seen above ? Nigeria and its citizens have a tarnished image compared to other African nationals, that is an irrefutable fact. It does not matter whether the rotten ones are people from a certain religion or tribe as you are just another Nigerian for the rest of the world once you leave the shores of your Fatherland. This stained image would take a long long time to go away. That needs lots of effort from the nation as a whole. Ignoring the bigger picture here, they are more bent on abusing the accuser, even if its their own chosen leader. The people here have a problem with every other person and country in world. They are so busy basking in their past glory and looking for faults in others that they ignore how their own nation is going from bad to worse. Patience is a virtue that's almost non existent these days. 2 Likes 2 Shares |

ochardbaby: You are the only one who has applied some sense. Seems the lady who expected a lucrative job abroad was shipped to be house help to a Kuwaiti family. Like any agent, these men would have collected their commission. She would have been unaware of what her job was and would have been shattered to be with Arabs who are notorious for maltreating their domestic helps. Little or no sleep, lack of basic necessities, no social life, 18-22 hours of strenous work coupled with extreme physical assault for the slightest mistakes are all part and parcel of these kind of jobs. There are quite a lot of Filipinos and South East Asian women who endure all these work as househelps in Arab countries. The slave uniform she is talking here seems to be the full sleeved long gowns and the head scarves they are given once they start work. That outfit, when worn by any foreigner is a tell tale evidence of being a house help as any other job may not demand you to cover up from head to toe like a national or a Muslim woman if you aren't one. Our lady, who was pushed into this profession unexpectedly would have vowed to get back at the men and that could be reason behind this slavery story. 2 Likes |

^ Justina' s fiance said they ran the test thrice. His result came positive twice and negative once. The OAU student had blood in her stool and vomit and they had confirmed she had established contact with late doctor. They had released press statements agreeing with the rumor and then a audden u turn. The SA woman was brisked away because some prelim test showed she tested positive (thats wht the report I read said) And suddenly their results come back negative. If a man who tested positive twice could get a negative result third time, all these negative results should be checked and re checked before they are discharged. 10 Likes |

Not being a pessimist here, but are these tests giving out the correct results or are we being kept in the dark ? People with full blown symptoms go in for tests and come back with negative results like nurse Justina's fiance, OAU student, SA woman..Anyways if its indeed true, then kudos to our Govt. 1 Like |

Bombshell2: My dear, many of these people you talk about see that Lebanese company as their last resort. Labour is cheap in Nigeria, he knows if he sack one, twenty will come next day. People need to be sensitized that nobody no matter highly placed can abuse your right. My point exactly... you get abused because YOU allow people to abuse you. Stand up for your rights/protest the first time it happens. If the lady had retaliated the first time he raised his hands on her, she'd have never seen this day. |

Jesus Christ !!! Kicking a heavily pregnant woman on her stomach??! As in seriously ? Is he mentally stable? How old is he ...1 2?? That man needs immediate psychiatric help before he is locked up in the jail. Imagine if this is what he does to his subordinates, what would his wife be going through at home?! Having said that, the whole thing smells fishy..this man physically assualts staff and nobody has ever lodged a complaint against him? Are they drugged or what? She endured his slaps and kicks from April and yet clung to this horrible job? Really? She goes home with a swollen face and hubby didn't notice it not even once? On top of that she has 2 of her siblings there in that firm who kept on watching/hearing about their pregnant Aunty being punched all these months without retaliating even once? Were they actually waiting for something to happen to her to speak up? How many of us would remain quiet like that for months in a similar scenario?? She says many saw her being kicked and still did not help her? Is that how heartless we have turned into? As if these things were not enough they waited for 5 good days to lodge a complain...what in the world were they waiting for, xmas?? 3 Likes |

chii8 I do not see the need to answer your questions as this thread is not about me. Thank you for taking the words out of my mouth...desperation. If only some of our women could exercise patience and do away with desperation. They are desperate to get married, desperate to have babies, desperate to have jobs, desperate to start business... Now onto your theory about her unemployed state frustrating her young marriage...I replied based on her posts and did not want to delve into her personal life. I still stand by my point that OP is being "wicked" for thinking of taking up a case against some employer who was kind enough to consider her for a position. If she could survive without a job all these while, why not for a few more months for a good reason ? Maybe you should start thinking from the employers point of view and see if her action is justifiable. Lets assume op IS given the job. What if they have a policy stating newly recruited employees are not entitled to maternity leave for an year or two ? A friend who took up a well paying job in the Middle East says they have a company policy that a female employee shouldn't go on maternity leave for 3 years. They even have to sign a bond in this regard. OP claims to be fit and fine now, but if you've got kids you'll understand that this "fitness" would soon give way to fatigue and weakness by the time you are in your 3rd trimester. Do you know how difficult it is to walk around with twins in your 3rd trimester, let alone having a full time job? As her pregnancy progress, her work could get affected, she could become an underperformer and may never get considered for a promotion or hike. If I were in her shoes, I would have a talk with the HR head and see if the offer could be deferred for a few months. If they can't I'll move on and keep trying for another job after the baby comes. But to file a lawsuit, hell no!!! @OP...I have nothing against you apart from your plan to drag your employers into a legal tiff for no fault of theirs. Jobs come and go. But for now, please enjoy your baby's growth and wait for the right time. If not this job, there's a better one in store for you. Just submit yourself to the Lord and let him give you reasons to glorify his name. Wishing you a hale and hearty 9 months ! |

chii8: My reply to her was about her attitude and not about her pregnancy. Read very well before you jump into conclusion. Her attitude of dragging a potential employer into an unpleasant situation just because she/some staff THINKS she may not get the job coz of her pregnancy. What reason does she have for not being employed till now since she has stated that she has been unemployed for a long time ? Mind you the girl did not come here asking whether to keep the baby or not, she came here looking for an appropriate authority to present her case as she feels she may not get the job due to her condition. |

chifreke: Can a lady be denied of appointment letter because she is pregnant...if so is there any authority she can present her case. please advice. Jeez lady ! Somebody who has been jobless for sometime lands up a good job, and then goes ahead to get pregnant without much planning about her career. What surprised me was that even before she is hired she wants to file a suit against them ?! (unless my understanding of her looking for an "authority that can take her case" means something else) While you are at it, why don't you drag all those who denied you a job to the court of law ? 1 Like |

@kalan...I refrained from commenting but had to log in to a gree with you. If you cant get along with them , leave them...as simple as that! I can't imagine working in an environment where I'm not accepted and have to fight for my rights. I'd rather stay at home than having to work with people who cant appreciate my contribution. Having said that, new trend amongst our youth is worrisome. They hate everyone and everything with a passion. Ironically just before reading this, I was reading a thread abt a popular bank sacking few hundred staff and the comments I saw there were appalling. We have an aggressive yet clueless generation at hand. They just go around demanding respect without realizing that respect can only be earned and not demanded. Truth be told, how many nations around the world treats or welcomes Nigerians with respect? There would be few nations who would show tolerance, but respect ? Thats still a distant dream. Do you think other Africans are treated the same way as Nigerians are treated? Who do you think is responsible for this tarnished image? An average Nigerian's dream is to get rich overnight, by hook or crook. There is a story in the lit section by Zuby..a true life story abt his escapades in various European nations. Its painful how our youth waste their life just like this particular writer, all in a bid to show off. This writer is apparently proud of what he did and from the comments I saw on that thread , many are praising him and praying to be like him. Booze, babes and swag..that about sums up an average youth's dream. They go to any extent to fulfil this dream and if ithings don't work out as planned, they are quick to blame the government. The Govt., they forget has been chosen by them. I'm certain that absolutely nothing would change if the current president and the rest of the ministers were to be replaced with random people picked up from the street. Infact it could become worse. Change yourself before you change the world around you. 6 Likes |
