TravelRe: Nigeria Forget Entry To Uk by snowdrops(m): 3:13pm On May 13, 2010
All this na speculation. Dont forget they will have to pass through the normal channel like a public enquiry, debate in the commons before ratification in the house of lords. The final bill may well be different from what they have in their policy.

That said, immigration remains a hot issue. The public are fed up with coloured and eastern european foreigners taking the jobs they dont want to do as they will rather collect benefits. tongue

PoliticsRe: Benin City - by snowdrops(m): 7:45am On May 13, 2010
newintexas:
I was born and grew up in Benin, and as much as it hurts to read some of the things written here, it also saddens me that most of it is the truth. I have often wondered why my home city has remain in the squalor it's in to this day. Everything bad and evil happens in that city, kidnapping, armed robbery, international prostitution, where you see parents and husbands sending their loved ones abroad to go love-peddler and all this mostly becos the next door neighbour built a five bedroom duplex, idol worshipping, and yet you find churches in every street corner, you cannot worship two Gods at the same time, but it appears that message has not reached my people. We have the biggest hypocrites too, I mean how do you explain the way the Igbinedion family is worshipped by the same people that they robbed. There is chronic lack of exposure, that is why you see most of the men still living in their family homes in their thirtys. Another big problem is our inability to let go of old things e.g traditions that have brought us nothing but set backs, when the world is moving on, we are still hanging on and putting so much importance to irrelevant things, and because we put so much importance to what people say about us or our family we are afraid to break away from the usual mode or way of doing things. The worse disease in Benin, is ENVY, you dare not be successful, because the next thing you will know is someone is out there trying to eliminate you. This is one of the reasons you see the successful sons and daughters never going back home to invest in the city and a city where no one is putting money into will definately deteroriate and that is exactly what is happening in Benin. Until we change our mentality and begin to realise that when one person is successful and is given the opportunity to create other opportunities for other people, then Benin will remain the way it is. We need common sense, Nothing will happen in Benin until it becomes a safe place to come to.
Very well said. Please try and modify your post by spacing it with paragraphs.

Insults and abuse is way too rampant on NL compared to other public forums.

Maybe Nigerians are simply too angry [from hunger? lol].

PoliticsLeaders Pay Tribute To Late Nigerian President by snowdrops(op): 9:39am On May 06, 2010
President Umaru Yar’Adua of Nigeria, who died last night after after a long battle with kidney and heart ailments, has been remembered as a man of “decency and integrity”.

President Obama and the new Nigerian leader led the tributes for Mr Yar’Adua, 58, who died at 9pm at the Aso Rock presidential villa in Abuja, with his wife Turai by his side.

The late President, a Muslim from the north, will be succeeded by his deputy, Goodluck Jonathan, a Christian from the oil-rich south, who became acting President earlier this year.

Within hours the new President declared seven days of mourning and expressed shock at the death of his predecessor
“Nigeria has lost the jewel on its crown, and even the heavens mourn with our nation tonight,” a spokesman quoted Mr Jonathan as saying.

“As individuals and as a nation we prayed for the recovery of Mr President. But we take solace in the fact that the Almighty is the giver and taker of all life”.

As a mark of respect, Mr Jonathan cancelled all official engagements, including a three-day visit to the Niger Delta, which he had been due to begin today.

In accordance with Muslim custom, Mr Yar’Adua will be buried in his northern home town of Katsina later today, which has been declared a work-free day. During the mourning period, Nigerian flags will be flown at half-mast.

Mr Obama expressed sadness at the death of the Nigerian leader, praising him as a man with a passionate belief in his nation’s future.

“Tonight, we remember and honour President Yar’Adua’s profound personal decency and integrity, his deep commitment to public service, and his passionate belief in the vast potential and bright future of Nigeria’s 150 million people,” Mr Obama said in a statement.

“He was committed to creating lasting peace and prosperity within Nigeria’s own borders, and continuing that work will be an important part of honouring his legacy.

President Boni Yayi of Benin also paid tribute to Mr Yar’Adua.

“With the loss of this great statesman, Benin, my country, loses a great friend and I am very upset,” he said.

Mr Yar’Adua had been absent from the political scene since November, when he left for medical treatment for a heart condition in Saudi Arabia. He returned to Nigeria in February but remained too sick to govern and has not been seen in public since.

Mr Jonathan assumed executive powers in February and has since consolidated his hold on power, appointing a new cabinet and his own team of advisers. But Mr Yar’Adua’s death raises the stakes in the run-up to the next elections.

Mr Jonathan now automatically becomes head of state of one of the world’s leading oil producers, and will complete his predecessor’s term of office, which expires in May 2011.

The acting President has already promised free and fair elections, but has said little about his own political plans.

I am building a 5 bedroom ensuite in GRA benin city.To be honest like many said do not wait till you have 10m+ to start the house.Just build as money lets you.
Not counting the cost of land the fencing has set me back 700k.The foundation about 1.3m.Its expensive to say the least to build a house in nigeria .So best build it graqdually and some day it will be finished.I plan to inject 3m a year into the house and hopefully it will be done in 3 years or so.
That is very ambitious. I doubt 9m would be enough over 3 years to complete an up-to-scratch house.

E nice:
Why would EFCC go after Ibori now of all times? Na today day break? The plan is to disrupt the Uduaghan camp of PDP so that the Clark camp would have an upper hand in delta state. They know that with Ibori in the scheme of things, 2011 PDP primaries/election is a forgone issue in delta state. Clark,Orubebe and Jonathan are in the same camp.
They are all rogues for all i care.
