Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State was caught on tape as he held a telephone with officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), political thugs, youth groups and community representatives handpicked by him. In the telephone conversations, exclusively obtained by SaharaReporters, Gov. Wike was arranging payments to the officials in exchange for their help in rigging the recently concluded legislative elections in the state. The telephone conversations revealed the governor arranging with INEC officials, particularly those sent from Anambra and Plateau State who were paid in batches to rig the election for candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Etche, Khana, Ikwerre and other key local government areas in the state where Wike and his boasted they would overwhelm opponents with violence. One of Mr. Wike’s phone calls went to a female operator, Betty Apiafi, a member of the Nigerian house of representatives who was complaining that the money offered by the governor was not sufficient for the rigging task. An infuriated Governor Wike told the woman that he had already paid the electoral coordinator for Plateau State. Betty bitterly complained that her people needed more money for the bloody task, saying things were tight. Wike asked her to come see him to pick up more funds. At one point in the conversation, when Governor Wike was told that one of the electoral officers was reluctant to sign off on one of the result sheets, the governor threatened to demand his money back from the recalcitrant official. Then, as if not satisfied with his threat to collect back his money, Mr. Wike voiced his intent to kill a group of election officials from Plateau state, stating that they would not leave Rivers State alive. http://saharareporters.com/2016/12/16/video-chilling-details-governor-wike-threatening-kill-inec-officials-whom-he-plotted

A cabal made up of high-level appointees in President Muhammadu Buhari’s office has struck a deal with Senate President Bukola Saraki to cease all forms of prosecution against him if he would agree to block the confirmation of Ibrahim Magu as chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). Mr. Saraki has had a series of legal losses in his bid to stop his multiple prosecutions for false asset declaration and money laundering. The senator’s latest legal misfortune came earlier today when a panel of the Court of Appeal dismissed his effort to stop his trial. However, Mr. Buhari’s Chief of Staff, Abba Kyari, the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Lawal Daura, as well as the Attorney General of the Federal, Abubakar Malami are conspiring to frustrate Mr. Saraki’s prosecution, according to a finding of a lengthy investigation by our correspondent. Since his appointment as the EFCC’s acting chairman, Mr. Magu has faced unusual impediments from Mr. Kyari and other members of the cabal, all of them members of an inner circle within the Presidency. Our investigations revealed that Mr. Magu got on the bad side of the president’s Chief of Staff when he refused to drop investigations against Sahara Energy, a company in which Mr. Kyari has a substantial interest. Mr. Magu also incurred the anger of the Chief of Staff when he refused to accept a deal to free Jide Omokore, a businessman with ties to former Petroleum Minister Diezani Alison-Madueke. Our investigative correspondent learned that Mr. Omokore had made efforts to see President Buhari twice with the assistance of the Chief of Staff and offered bribes to Mr. Kyari and his team. Our investigator also learned that Mr. Kyari had also promised Mr. Omokore that he would be off the hook once he paid back a mere N500 million as restitution, even though the businessman accumulated billions of dollars through fraudulent oil swap deals and questionable acquisition of oil assets arranged by former Petroleum Minister, Mrs. Alison-Madueke. The ongoing suit filed by a governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress, (APC), in Ondo State, Engr. Olusegun Abraham challenging the election of Chief Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN) as the APC’s authentic candidate for the November 28 election appears to be a major hurdle that could make or mar Akeredolu’s swearing-in as Ondo state governor. The Abuja Federal High Court ruling today has dismissed the preliminary objections raised by Akeredolu’s legal team of 28 lawyers and 2 SAN, and adjourned the trial to February 2, 2017 ahead of the February 27th inauguration date. Abraham had challenged the emergence of Akeredolu SAN as the winner of the party’s primaries in court. Abraham had through an ex parte motion prayed the court to declare the process that produced Akeredolu as governorship candidate of APC as illegal. This, he said, was on the grounds that the election did not conform to the constitution of the party and guidelines set by the party for the primaries. Abraham, who came second in the party’s primaries had prayed the court to prevent the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, from presenting Akeredolu as the party’s flag-bearer in the November 26 governorship election in the state. But Justice Dimgba had insisted that since the matter was sensitive, it would be fair if all parties to the suit were present in court before the order was made. Chief Akin Olujimi (SAN), Counsel to Akeredolu, had argued that counsel to Abraham had not served him with the orders of the court requiring the defendants to come and show cause. Olujimi told the court that because service was not effected, the hearing could not go on. Before the election, Justice Nnamdi Dimgba had ordered Akeredolu to come and show cause (reason) why an interim order restraining INEC from recognising him as the candidate of APC in the fourth coming election should not be granted, and adjourned the matter till December 16. It will be recalled that an elected delegate for the APC primaries whose name was omitted, and reportedly loyal to Hon. Bola Ilori, ex-APC chieftain turned-the-campaign coordinator of Alliance for Democracy governorship candidate, petitioned the party Appeal Committee, which recommended the governorship primary cancellation. The acrimony generated by the padding of the party’s delegates list led to the movement of followers of Olusola Oke and Hon Bola Ilori to the Alliance for Democracy while Dr Segun faced the court. It is the dissatisfied delegate’s petition Abraham has been leaning on to seek redress. Read more at: http://www.vanguardngr.com/2016/12/akeredolus-swearing-faces-court-hurdle/

Since the age of 12, Krishna Prasad Bhattarai, 60, has suffered with Neurofibromatosis - but after op he says people in village actually talk to him at last. A man says he has been 'reborn' after having a facial tumour weighing an astonishing two stone removed from his face. Since the age of 12, Krishna Prasad Bhattarai, 60, from Taplejung, in eastern Nepal, has suffered with Neurofibromatosis - where tumours grow along the nerves. The condition meant he lived with a giant tumour that hung from his face that grew to be the same weight as a TODDLER. And the growth, which he carried in a bag, even turned smelly after friction meant it became infected. He was told by dozens of doctors that it could not be removed. But he was given a glimmer of hope by Dr Jaswan Shakya, from Sushma Koirala Memorial Hospital, in Kathmandu, who said he could operate on it. Dr Shakya, according to the Sun, said: “I have seen many patients with small tumors covering the face but never one as big as this. "I was really shocked to see him at first. I’ve done these surgeries for many years but this is the biggest tumour I’d ever seen in Nepal.” http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/world-news/man-smelly-two-stone-facial-9456051

This was the incredible scene snapped by a golfer as a python swallowed a wallaby whole. The snake had managed to snare the marsupial before rolling onto a golf course to devour its prey. Witnesses said it took 30 minutes for the 13-foot reptile to swallow the animal before it slithered away into nearby brush. The scrub python was first spotted by golfers at the Far North golf course in Paradise Palms, Cairns, Australia. Robert Willemse said he was called over by the group who found it on the fairway of the 17th hole. He told the Cairns Post: “The python swallowed it and rolled into the creek, then snuck back into the bush. It must have gone for a rest for the next few days.” He said he had seen snakes in the area before but non 'as big as that'. Mr Willemse added: “I have a good look when I play a golf ball near the swamp, but I will be thinking about that again, because that is a big beast." http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/weird-news/giant-13-foot-snake-gulps-9454941
