SOJ,

If you have really read the requirements from PMI's website well, you would discover that you must be trained for at least, 35 hrs before you sit for any of the credentials. Again, it is not only REPs that can train you. Check again and see if I am wrong.

Best of luck in your pursuit. wink

Nope u r wrong. For the CAPM, all u require is 25hrs of project mgt education/training to qualify to do d exam.
Yes, it isn't only REP's dat can train u,,,but wat good is it if u av a training from a non-REP and u register for the exam only to be told to bring the document proving ur training?

all you're sayn in essence is gse is preying on the plight of d jobless graduates. that is all this thread is all about and seeing that we r grads we do know what is up to fight for what is right

Nawewe has a good suggestion about reducing the price of GSE, if it cn be done, good, but a beta suggestion is getting prospective employees to pay for the search

U are a few steps from being myopic! d fact dat u av misgivens about GSE doesn't invalidate it as a great concept. Give us one reason why prospective employers shuld pay for you to be recruited in their firm.Tell me, if u WERE one, would u do that?

Yes, i dint think so.Nobody is preying on so-called plight of 'jobless graduates as u claim;its a concept that is open to anyone who wants to buy into it. If u dont want the test then apply in an organisation that doesnt use the test;to my last count, there are still hundreds of companies out there who dont use GSE scores. So wat really is d basis of ur arguments?

see it dis way, if u REALLY want 2 "fight for what is right" then fight againt this idea: www.shl.com

PS>My lasr word is dis: go back to school to be re-trained to reason objectively and sensibly;drop ur 'immature' student militancy and grow up,

This is strictly FYI: Just as Rare mentioned, every info u need concerning PMI, Prince2/PMP/CAPM can be gleaned online. I started my search online 4 yrs ago and now i'm a member of the PMI, a member of PMI Lagos chapter and currently studying towards a CAPM cert. All online and not thru an agent whatsoever!

Do the same,I advice anyone and dont leave ur info sources in the hands of d numerous training centers in naija now. For example, if u do ur due dilligence u will discover dat there are only 3 training institutes recognized by PMI in naija. I wouldn't give u their names though;u must find dat out d way i did: www.pmi.org

D way i see it,if anyone's truly interested in project management, he'll take d first step by googling it!

all d best,,,,
Jobs/Vacancies / Re: Please How Much Does Sahara Group Pay Their Interns/new Entry by SOJ(m): 8:34am On Sep 05, 2008
go4gold107:

@topic
we all went through the univ and did our internship for 6 months. Sahara Group is offering "intern" position (according to t.funsho). What is the percentage chance you will make it to a Permanent Position?

U need to understand the word 'intern':

An intern or stagiaire is one who works in a temporary position with an emphasis on on-the-job training rather than merely employment, making it similar to an apprenticeship. Interns are usually college or university students, but they can also be high school students or post graduate adults seeking skills for a new career. Student internships provide opportunities for students to gain experience in their field, determine if they have an interest in a particular career, create a network of contacts, or gain school credit. Internships provide the employers with cheap or free labor for (typically) low-level tasks (stereotypically including fetching coffee for the office), and also the prospect of interns returning to the company after completing their education and requiring little or no training.

An internship may be either paid, unpaid or partially paid (in the form of a stipend). Paid internships are most common in the medical, science, engineering, law, business (especially accounting and finance), technology and advertising fields. Internships in non-profit organization such as charities and think tanks are often unpaid, volunteer positions. Internships may be part-time or full-time; typically they are part-time during the university year and full-time in the summer, and they typically last 6-12 weeks, but can be shorter or longer. The act of job shadowing may also constitute as interning.

- Courtesy Wikipeadia

Alternatively, Sahara might be using the word to loosely imply an apprenticeship that may lead to a permanent position. U know dis naija compy and their misuse of oyinbo. On the other hand, the poster might have applied for a position dat was meant for interns/apprentices so hence the job offer,,,

Every graduate did not finish with first class in a viable course. If this is the best job these graduates can find, then please let them do it with dignity. I don't see the problem. Someone has to do the cleaning, and maybe as graduates they will do a better job of cleaning than illiterates.

I find myself agreeing with u here; if wat these graduates can settle for is a janitorial job,then they probably shuld have it.

Dis guy, I no expo, machinery and cheating has ruined your reckless life, so you don't even no the difference between recruitment and experience hiring.

Well read my gospel very well and rethink, u may repent if u wish but I don't know sh, t about Pan Ocean, I established myself professionaly through the interview process and Jehovah the faithful God gave me the battle for my taking.

Please guys anymore info, and thanks Jodeci and visitor30, u can't imagine my joy, I wish you guys same, even more!!

Also, in defence of Dis guy, he has valid doubts;what he expressed is not doubts about the truthfulness of ur job claim but rather the lack of indepth knowledge u av about ur job offer.
If u did an interview wit a company like PanOcean, u wuld know all u can about them:pay,job conditions and so on.
Honestly,ur ignorance about these basic info is surprising if not suspicous
Jobs/Vacancies / Re: I Got A Job After 7 Months Of Serious Hunting: Leverage Investment Or Zenith? by SOJ(m): 12:56pm On Sep 04, 2008
U need to clarify to urself wat exactly u want in a job. I cant help u wit a specific advise but i will share my experience in d hope that it'll help u too.

I had 2 job offers recently: one in a logistics firm working wit Virgin Atlantic and another in a construction company. See, I studied building and i recently left a construction company dat wasnt paying well just to take another offer in Lagos.
I had to clearly identify wat i wanted in a job in order to decide which job offer to take. Personally, i wanted a career in project mgt in addition with somtin dat will give me visibility and job security. I discovered that the construction company was owned by one man,just as the one i resigned from, and the logistics compy was a proper organisation with a staff strength of over 300 and with very organised operation system: so here was job security and visibility. But the pay for the aviation compy was low at start, and the construction company was starting at about N840,000 pa without extra benefits.
I chose the logistics company cos of better job conditions:security, comfortable pay, closer distance from home and more organised company structure. Initially, it seemed like a hard decision to make but when i was able to clarify my priorities i was able to choose.

Thing is regardless of wat advice u get from pple, make ur choice based on wat u think will make u happy and satisfied.

@Vuitton
dont take it personal, dear. I didnt mena to take a pun at pple who may not be able to afford 5k;i was once unable to afford N100 credit for my phone!
But wat i'm hitting at is the thinking dat says that 'graduates do not have to pay to take a test'.dat is absurd;if a test is confirmed to be used a s a standard by companies for recruiting then jobseekers shuld be willing to invest both time and money in it,if the situation demands it,,,,we shuldnt expect free lunch all d time,,,

i advice everyone who kinda resists this idea to step back and consider the benefits in the longterm,,,thats wat wuld work!
Jobs/Vacancies / Re: Graduate Standardization Examination (gse)! by SOJ(m): 11:04am On Sep 03, 2008
@tayoTFC
where did u hear anything about companies employing people who pass GSE? GSE is, as d name implies, a standardization test and method of assessing candidates suitability for employment. It is and was never meant to be the final abiter for job-seekers.
even after passing the test, it is up to the companies using it to select the candidates they deisre according to their OWN qualifications either thru the tests scores or an interview.

I think we r all over-reacting

kaymd:

@SOJ
The issue here is not essentially the money, but the effectiveness of the idea. As I already said, even with GSE, employers are still bound to organise another set of aptitude tests, simply because the number of qualified graduates (based on the GSE score) will most surely exceed their required number of employees. Do you really believe that when, say 30 grads are needed, only 30 will be qualified based on the GSE score, that is, without bias or prejudice? It will more likely be about 2000+ that will be qualified. What then? Conduct interviews for 2000 candidates? Back to the aptitude tests you thought you already avoided, get my gist?

The fact of the matter remains that in Nigeria, the jobs are excessively overbalanced by the job seekers, that is the core of the problem. It cannot be solved by a uniform test of graduates.

I rest my case.

it is not uncommon to find more than 2000 candidates qualified based on test scores. The last firstbank recruitment involved interviewing more than 5000 graduates nationwide; a large % in lagos alone.
what the test stands to benefit us is increased fairness in computer-based testing and eliminating back-door tactics to a minimum.
also, many more graduates stand d chance of having an opportunity to be interviewed. So the way i see it, more qualified graduates can secure jobs this way than ever.

if u av ever done a number of tests and felt discriminated based on the fact that u didnt know anyone in the company, u will know wat i mean.
GSE promises us a new vista in job seeking, dats my say.
Jobs/Vacancies / Re: Graduate Standardization Examination (gse)! by SOJ(m): 9:51am On Sep 03, 2008
Vuitton:

Thanx for your anti myopic view!
GSE corporate suscribers are about 20. How many job seekers within 2yrs can they offer jobs? Even if there is astronomical expansion in the time frame.
If its in other countries, those nations are developed i guess and unemployment level cannot be compared to Nigeria. What about bias?

U r not just myopic,,,,u r ignorant. What is d correlation between an aptitude test and a job offer?
Even d tests we do without 'paying a kobo' have never guaranteed us a job yet u 4get dat the logistics involved usually exceed the sum of N5,000,,,
some of us are willing to go to another state to take a test;a venture ehich involves transport and sometimes hotel money, yet u are all wrangling about paying a meager N5,000 to do a test dat if taken with gud preparation can secure a job offer,,,

Interesting If u av a grouse with GSE, let it be over somtin else and not its ingenuity in making life better!
