Romance / Re: I Am In Love With My Best Friend by SOJ(m): 5:07pm On Aug 22, 2008
Preserve wat friendship? Do u mean that lovers are not neccessarily friends or wat?
Best friends CAN bcome great lovers. Av seen dat a lot of times;its takes making that transition work.

@poster
Give her some time;she may probably get round to feeling the same way u feel
am sure u'v had dis feeling for a loooooong while lol

if u really feel dat way, dont bring up DAT talk anymore;because the truth is anytime u r 2geda from the moment u made ur feelings known, the question will always be in the air.
If it would work out dat way,i guess things will definitely move in dat direction eventually. wat u need is a bucketful of patiencedepending on da gal involved

Jobs/Vacancies / Re: Microfinance Bank by SOJ(m): 9:53am On Aug 20, 2008
I think a graduate worth his/her onions shuld kow better than to make payments in order to "secure" employment.
Common sense would show u that d account is a Personal Account and not even a company account.
Ofcourse, its ok to pay if u want to;just make sure u pay into my own account too: GTB-2719820088207. I cannot guarantee u employment sha lol grin

Romance / Fine Gals Are Hard To Keep!true? by SOJ(m): 1:02pm On Aug 19, 2008
Really, it puzzles me.Is it true dat the sexiest, great looking girls are hard to keep?
I hear it said a lot that its the simple ("ugly"wink looking gals dat keep thier relationships;but isnt dat a well worn cliche?
Arent attitudes a big factor anymore? As if to confirm dis, av seen relationships dat d gal is a finefaced, sexy chick who ended up leaving d guy for another,
Wats going on?

Jobs/Vacancies / Re: Gse Id For Union Bank Recruitment? by SOJ(m): 7:53am On Aug 19, 2008
Simply proceed to the GSE website and register. You are under no obligation to pay before you register;get ur ID and password from them into ur box. When u access ur ID/Password, proceed to the unionbank website and apply using the option of ID without test result. I have done this for two people and it worked fine. Best of luck!

@edumen & all

am afraid u epitomise the picture of old nigeria: the one which still wants all things for free. You say that no where in the world are applicants paying to do aptitude tests;tell me, have u bothered moving out of your cubicled space to validate that?or do u just make presumptous suggestions like this?
I dont see anything bad in the idea of paying to do a test whereby ur data and scores will be in a central database and can be used to apply for positions anytime the opportunity presents itself; that sure signals an era where we dont have to run around venues to do all kinds of aptitude tests.

This doesnt mean i'm an agent of GSE;but i buy into their idea, and thats where it stops!
Imagine a situation where u av 4 tests to do in a particular saturday, what would u do?would u rathere spend time juggling which test to attend or finish one and strat rushing to meetup with anoda?

I mean this GSE concept makes things very convenient for all and sundry, everyone wins no one loses.

Jobs/Vacancies / Re: Union Bank 2008 Graduate Recruitment by SOJ(m): 3:13pm On Aug 14, 2008
Hmm, have u all thot that maybe u need to change ur thinking and leave the status quo?i wouldnt be surprised if we have a future where u wouldnt do aptitude tests anymore but all tests will be done electronically thru pple like GSE.
By the way wats so bad about paying to do a test once and for all and using the scores to apply to different companies witout the hassles of repeating tests over and over again?

I think its time w change our thinking patterns

Career / Re: IT Professionals' Salary In Nigeria? by SOJ(m): 2:48pm On Aug 14, 2008
It really depends on ur level of experience and professional degree status;basically ur ability to display ur level of experience is a key factor.
Entrylevel chaps take home around N70,000 - N120,000 a month depending on the company.
Experienced guys are much betta: as much as over N200,000 a month is the norm.

By the way, do u want to relocate to naija because u r being encouraged to do so, or because u WANT to?
If u compare rates wit UK,u will be disappointed,my friend.Or did u think dat renumeration will automatically rise since u r from abroad or wat?
dats weird

Jobs/Vacancies / Re: Ever Heard Of Contract Employment? by SOJ(m): 10:24am On Aug 13, 2008
Call it wat u may, contract staffing, temporary staffing; it is neccessary for most businesses. What is wrong is that its being abused by certain organisations in Nigeria.
Great career paths have been known to develop from contract employments;it just takes you seizing an opportunity when it presents itself.
But that isnt usually the case for some people, i gather.
I think businesses find it cost effective to employ temp staff to fill in voids left without notice or to prevent outsourcing key elements of their operations to outsiders.

Jobs/Vacancies / Re: What Jobs Can I Get With My 3rd Class Degree In Accounting? by SOJ(m): 9:52am On Aug 12, 2008
@poster
u need to ask urself wether accounting is a fireld u want to pursue;if it is then u need to develop urself professionally: take an extra degree/postgraduate degree, a certification or a certificate in accounting with a recognized professional body.
Dont think ur NIM is somthing to hold-on to(many pple also have dat undecided) u need to have something to stand u out when u apply for jobs:be it a certificate with a professional body or experience( and most times, simply God's favor).

Happy applying!
Jobs/Vacancies / Re: Contract Job At Bank Vs Staff Job At Media Organization? by SOJ(m): 9:24am On Aug 12, 2008
Ur sister has to consider balancing competing demands like cost of transport to work, cost of wardrobe and other things.
For me, a contract work with a bank doesnt appear to have enduring value compared to secure employment;even if the contract job is higher paying.
She also has to consider her future career goals;what does she want to do in future? what career path is she hoping to follow?
There are big career shoes to be filled nationwide and it is up to her to make her pick and take a path to follow.

Hope she makes the right choice eventually, cheers.

Fashion / Re: Why Do Girls Dress To Kill At Shoprite? by SOJ(m): 1:46pm On Aug 09, 2008
BlackMamba:

I smell the same old elitist put down by some Naija folks who happen to find their ass in a western country. Like someone rightly pointed out Naija is still a 3rd world country last I checked, regardless of how we value ourselves and our stuff. But we have the right to appreciate stuff any way we like. Folks comparing our so called deli-like mall to Walmart often shop in low cost Walmart and discount stores rather than designer stores on 5th Avenue. Shoprite is big in Naija and Naija is not US or UK.

there seems to be some element of truth in ur post, my dear;wats the fuss about?

gidig:

First, shoprite is not the mall. The mall is called The Palms. Shoprite is just a one of the stores that rented a space there just as there are New Metro, PC outlet and others.

Secondly, there is nothing bad if people dress up to go to the place as there are quite a few high end stores there as well (tifanny Amber for instance). So, it can be assumed that they are going there for some other thing apart from Shoprite or the game, which are the most popular stores in the mall.

Thirdly, the mall culture is fairly new in Nigeria and for many of these people, whose only proximity to a standard mall is what they see in the movies, it can be termed an excitement for them to have these options. Do they go overboard? Yes!! And so what? I rarely have the time to stay that long there and until this thread was started, I never thought about how people dressed. I was there this week at a cafe beside PC Outlet and if not that there was the place chosen by my client, Mr Biggs would have done just fine. People are free to dress as they want to the mall. To now make it a platform for evaluating our values is totally absurd. The ladies who go to Shoprite have made that their business to dress like that to the place.I go to the place if what I want to buy is only available there and I have never cared what people are wearing until someone made it an issue on Nairaland!

A common theme in the responses is the notion that even though Nigeria now has a mall, the people are not 'schooled' in the manner they go to malls. In America, it is like, Are you guys serious?

wat really is the noise about?
