RENO Omokri, former aide to former President Goodluck Jonathan has taken a swipe on the Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter OBI saying he is more corrupt than President Bola Ahmed TINUBU. Omokri, in a long write-up on his official Tweeter Page available to SOJ WORLDWIDE said Obi's savings of funds in his private bank where he enjoys annual interests to the detriment of the state. He stated that Tinubu's Alphabeta is better. He was responding to @FrankEtuk who said he was corrupt. "Dear @FrankEtuk Thank you for your feedback. Steal? I was in government for four years, and nobody, not even the Buhari administration that I heavily criticised, ever accused me of stealing. If you have evidence of any acts of stealing on my part, please publicly produce it. Regarding Peter Obi, he is at least as corrupt, or even more so, than Tinubu, the known drug lord, who is now performing above everybody's expectations. Do you know why Peter Obi did not build much infrastructure and rather saved money for Anambra? It is because he saved the equivalent of $50 million of Anambra state money in his bank. Fidelity Bank, to be precise. A bank in which he had significant interests. A bank where he was a former chairman In a year, that money will yield at least $5 million when invested in the S&P 500 (likely more). Much of that $5 million yield would be Peter Obi's PERSONAL profit. And that is every year. So, imagine how much money Peter Obi personally made in eight years as a Governor from the conflict of interest in investing state funds in his private bank. No wonder he boasted of being richer than President Biden! And then you guys are here, rightly pillorying Tinubu for benefitting from Lagos money through Alphabeta. That is even better than what Peter Obi did. Alphabeta gave valuable service. Peter Obi did not attempt to cover his. It was blatant! Peter Obi then invested Anambra state funds in a beer brewery where he had personal business interests. If Peter Obi had tried this in Europe, America, or even South Africa, by now, he would have joined Jacob Zuma in jail. If he had done this in China, he would have been summarily executed. And I challenge your Peter Obi to sue me in court if I have lied. And you Obidients know that you cannot defend this corruption. That is why when it is brought up, you people immediately shift away from the issues and either insult the person exposing your god, so the fellow can leave the issue and get angry, or you accuse them of being anti-Igbo as if all Obidients are Igbo. Regarding financial integrity, Peter Obi is NEVER in my class. He is FAR below! Thanks again, and may God bless you. #TableShaker" CLICK TO READ MORE DETAILS: https://www.sojworldnews.com/obi-is-more-corrupt-than-tinubu-reno-omokri-read-why/ https://www.sojworldnews.com/timothy-adegoke-ramon-adedoyin-appeals-death-sentence/ https://www.sojworldnews.com/osun-police-arrests-man-who-threatens-lets-kill-all-the-igbos/ Lest I forget, June 12, 2023 is the 6th Anniversary of SOJ WORLDWIDE ONLINE NEWS. The owner of Hilton Hotels, Ile-Ife, Osun State, Dr Ramon Adedoyin, and two of his staff members convicted for the murder of ex-Masters student of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Timothy Adegoke, by an Osun State High Court, have filed appeal against the verdict before a superior court. Recall that the Osun State Chief Judge, Adepele Ojo, who presided over the matter, in her judgment, had sentenced Adedoyin, and two of his staff members that participated in the evacuation of the deceased from the hotel, Adeniyi Aderogba and Oyetunde Kazeem, to death by hanging. Justice Ojo also ruled that the hotel where Adegoke’s death occurred should be forfeited to the state government, while education of the deceased’s children should be funded till they complete tertiary institution from the estates of the convicts. The judge, however, freed three staff members of the hotel namely; Magdalene Chiefuna, Oluwole Lawrence, and Adebayo Kunle, while the seventh defendant, Adesola Adedeji, who was the receptionist on duty on the day late Adegoke arrived at the facility, was sentenced to two years imprisonment starting from the day of her arrest. Confirming that the convicts had appealed the judgment of the Osun State High Court on the matter, one of the lawyers that represented Adedoyin in the case, Mr Muhydeen Adeoye, during an interview with our newsmen on Thursday, said, “We have filed an appeal against the judgment of Osun State High Court. The appeal was filed before the Court of Appeal, Akure.” CLICK TO READ MORE DETAILS: https://www.sojworldnews.com/timothy-adegoke-ramon-adedoyin-appeals-death-sentence/ https://www.sojworldnews.com/osun-police-arrests-man-who-threatens-lets-kill-all-the-igbos/ https://www.sojworldnews.com/tinubu-says-no-excuse-for-failure-as-he-inaugurates-national-economic-council-see-attendance/ *For credible and objective news, join our WhatsApp Broadcast List with this number, +2349069473894 for our news updates* *CLICK to join SOJ WORLDWIDE ONLINE NEWS WhatsApp group here for our news updates as it breaks>>** https:///JiX02nj3L2QGEqiNedhMYm |

In April, I sat inside a computer lab at Chaffey College in Rancho Cucamonga, California and talked with students—some too young to drive—about cybersecurity. Many seemed as fascinated by technology as I’ve always been. One even taught himself to build computers during the pandemic. Despite their different backgrounds and ambitions, they were all there for the same reason: They’re part of the cybersecurity track, or pathway, at Chaffey. If you spend time working on education in the United States, there’s a decent chance you’ll hear the word “pathways” tossed around. Most likely, you’ll hear it in discussions about the journey from high school to higher education to fulfilling career—a journey that, for many Black and Latino students and those from low-income backgrounds, is often anything but smooth. For a disproportionate percentage of them, it’s never completed. There are too many speed bumps, roadblocks, and detours along the way and not enough direction to guide them. But integrated, intentionally-designed programs and structures that span K-12, college, and work can help, by creating high-quality pathways for students—from education to employment—that are seamless, structured, and commonsensical. That’s why pathways are the core of our education work at the Gates Foundation. We don’t just want students to graduate from high school. We don’t even just want them to complete college. We want to make sure they have paths to follow—and finish—from classroom to commencement to career that align with their interests, and to feel supported at every step along the way. That means addressing the transition points in the educational journey that often turn into those speed bumps, roadblocks, and detours. At the Foundation, we believe there are four key components to creating these pathways. The first is providing quality advising to students that helps them identify the right college and career plan. The second is giving them access to (and credit for) college-level coursework—so they can see themselves as successful college students and save time and money getting that degree. The third is ensuring those credits are transferable between institutions and count toward their degrees. And the fourth is helping them have career-connected learning experiences, like project-based assignments, internships, and job shadows; that way, they can understand what it’s like to actually do the work they’re interested in, gain relevant skills and experience, and make connections in the field. There are other organizations and initiatives that approach pathways differently. But the goal—for students to graduate with valuable credentials and transition successfully to the workforce—is the same. And it’s becoming increasingly urgent. As I’ve written about before, by 2025 two thirds of all jobs in the United States will require some education beyond high school. The COVID-19 pandemic caused a lot of students to put off that postsecondary education; many had no other choice. But the data tells us that people who don’t start college within two years of getting their high school diplomas are less likely to persist and eventually get that postsecondary degree or credential. So the best way to get people graduating from college, so they can get the best jobs for themselves and make the most out of their careers, is to reach them early and ensure they have what they need to stay on the path. That brings me back to my day in Rancho Cucamonga, where Chaffey has established pathways that align with the Foundation’s approach to providing the structure and support students need for the education they need to build a great career. As a community college, Chaffey has an incredibly diverse student population that comes from largely underserved communities. Sixty-seven percent are Hispanic or Latino, eight percent are Black, and many are parents, veterans, and returning students. As one of Chaffey’s leaders, Dr. Laura Hope, put it, none of them are in the position to take an extended “vow of poverty” for the sake of education. While community colleges often emphasize exploration above all else, endless exploration that doesn’t result in skills, degrees, and jobs for students doesn’t actually serve students. So Chaffey’s job is to help students first understand and then attain the credentials and degrees required, either to land a certain job or to transfer to a four-year college, as efficiently as possible. As I saw firsthand, Chaffey’s pathways are increasingly focusing on just that. Rather than ask what people want to do with their careers—a mammoth question for both 18-year-olds and older students alike, and one that limits them only to professions they already know about—Chaffey’s advising program asks what they’re interested in, what their strengths are, what they care about, and, critically, how much time they have. As a result, a student interested in technology who feels called to helping others might discover, for instance, that it’s cybersecurity—and not medicine—she wants to pursue. Then, Chaffey provides the student with a “map” that guides them and supplies them with all the information they need to succeed: the exact coursework they have to complete, the degree they need and can expect to attain (including both career-related certificates and associates degrees), the credits they can bring with them if they choose to transfer to a four-year university, the universities Chaffey has those matriculation agreements with, the jobs they’ll be qualified for upon completion, even the salary they can expect to earn. The school shows them there’s a path, and then helps shorten it. But Chaffey doesn’t just show that path to “traditional” community college students. Through its dual enrollment program, which has grown from around 20 people to around 3,500 in the past four years, Chaffey is also reaching high school students and helping them find a path to post-secondary and professional success. I met some of them in the cybersecurity class I sat in on, and I was impressed by them, and by what Chaffey is doing for them. While dual enrollment programs that allow high school students to earn college credits exist throughout the United States, not enough schools encourage them to take courses that are intentionally designed to relate to their interests and expose them to potential future careers. Instead, students often end up attaining a random assortment of unrelated credits that are irrelevant to them later on. Chaffey’s pathways approach is one way to address this problem. This benefits students at every age and stage of their educational journey in obvious ways, helping them avoid wasted credits—and wasted time and money. But it also benefits the economy, both locally in the Inland Empire region where Chaffey is located and statewide. When the school decided to become a leader in cybersecurity, one impetus was the region’s emerging cyber and tech industries, which were growing so fast that they couldn’t find enough qualified people to hire. With its cybersecurity pathway, Chaffey is filling a local need, serving as a regional economic engine, and preparing students for success in a field with around 72,000 job openings—many of them six-figure—in California alone. Thanks to internship opportunities with regional partners, also part of the pathways approach, some of the students I met already have jobs waiting for them once they graduate. According to Dr. Hope, the number one thing colleges like Chaffey have to teach students is belief: belief in themselves, and belief that their education is really supporting them and setting them up for success. That’s easier said than done. But with a pathway to follow, students are less likely to feel lost and more likely to find their way—through school and to a fulfilling career. The more high-quality pathways we can create for them, the better. Former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele was whisked away in a Kaftan and Sandals like an ordinary Nigerian. He waited until he was disgraced out of office despite his woeful performance, especially his poor handling of New Naira Notes policy that turned the nation upside down. Many people died, banks were attacked and burnt down, yet Emefiele stood his grounds. He blackmail the commercial banks saying they hoarded the new Naira notes making the bank staff and the banks subject of attacks. The suspension of Emefiele is the end of an era. A House of Representatives Member-Elect on the platform of the Labour Party, Godwin Ogar, has confessed that he never knew that President Bola Tinubu was so intelligent, and he felt so proud listening to a man who is prepared to serve Nigerians. Ogar, who was elected from Isuikwuato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency of Abia State, stated this during an interview with newsmen on Friday after the National Assembly members-elect met with Tinubu at the State House to resolve the leadership crisis of the lawmakers. Amobi said, “Today is my best day; today I’m so happy that I’m an elected member, seeing my President talking. In fact, I never knew that this man was so intelligent. READ ALSO:. SOJ WORLDWIDE ONLINE NEWS first published the news of Superintendent of Custom, Owombo Segun John on November 5, 2022 when he appeared in a viral video, he exposed trucks loaded with smuggled Petrol enroute neighbouring West African countries. His trouble started according to a leaked audio sourced from the Facebook Page of Yekeen Sarafadeen Olaide where he narrated his ordeal after his arrest last year. In the new audio, Owombo said he was detained without adequate care for exposing and arresting economic saboteurs. He added that after he reported the ugly incident to his boss, he was arrested, beaten and tortured. He was later framed up that he had mental health issues but said nothing was wrong with him. He said he was mentally sound and that his patriotic zeal to make Nigeria a better country prompted the release of the video exposing the smugglers. In a sane country, according to him, he ought to have been honoured as a Patriot but in Nigeria, he was hounded into detention instead. As at the time of filing this report, Owombo is still languishing in Nigerian Customs Service detention for his loyalty to Nigeria to enable the economy bounce back. He is calling on President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed TINUBU for a proper investigation to expose the cartel responsible for bunkering and smuggling of our fuel across the border without any form of benefits to the economy of the nation. According to him, he has all the evidence to expose the perpetrators. OUR PUBLICATION ON November 15, 2022 "NIGERIAN Customs Service Officer, Owombo Segun John who was detained for exposing the rots at a Nigerian Border in Adamawa State where scores of trucks loaded with refined petrol are being smuggled to neighbouring countries has been deployed to their Head Office in Abuja from Adamawa. Owombo is expected to meet with the Comptroller General of Customs while in detention. This was confirmed to SaharaReporters on Monday during a phone conversation with his brother, who also stated that Owombo informed him that his life had been threatened since he was incarcerated. Last four days when I called him, he told me the customs officers have been threatening him. They say they would terminate him. Since then, we could not reach him again. It seems they have collected his phone. “But a source within the office told me this morning that he has been taken to Customs National Headquarters in Abuja,” Owombo's brother said. He also described the claims by some people that his brother, Segun is suffering from a mental disorder as untrue. He continued: “My brother is a very brilliant man. Someone that was posted to Adamawa and has been working there since, how can you now say he is insane? That is a lie. They are just trying to cover up." The claim that he was found naked is also not true. He told me that immediately after he released the video, he was attacked by some customs officers and tanker drivers. He even told me that if he is allowed, he has some evidence to back up his claim,” he added. THE piece below was written by one Adedamola Adetayo with accompanied viral video where the wife of the Osun State Governor, Ngozi Adeleke was seen exercising her authority. The video was tagged, "Osun State Governor's wives in a show of shame." Ngozi holds Ademola Adeleke in Osun and Betty Anyawu holds Arakunrin Akeredolu in Ondo by Adedamola Adetayo. Ordinarily, it shouldn't have meant anything. I wouldn't have been so much bothered if these women were Ijaws, Ibibios, Efik, Igala, Urhobos or even Kanuris. But you see the IGBO WOMAN, even if she's blind or not that kind of ZIONIST person, which is very rare, her IGBO KINSMEN will impress it upon her that she is the "ESTHER" that God has appointed for them in THAT LOCATION. That is their mindset. Today, If you bother to go to Osun and Ondo Government houses and Civil Service now, you will be surprised what you will find. They will be sprawling with Igbo people while qualified Yoruba people of those states won't have the opportunity or less opportunities than the igbos. A man like Ademola Adeleke isn't even Yoruba in the real sense of it. He is Yoruba only in his name and blood. You couldn't find the Omolúàbí traits in him and that is why he dances about like a nuisance. There is ABSOLUTELY NO WAY THAT A NON-IGBO, WHICHEVER TRIBE, YORUBAS ESPECIALLY, will enjoy in IGBO LAND A HUNDREDTH of the opportunities the igbos enjoy in Yoruba land. I can say it anywhere. Now, go to Anambra and ask if Margaret Obi EVER IN HER LIFE enjoyed this kind of Ngozi Adeleke influence in Anambra State when her husband, Peter Obi was Governor ??Then compare Margaret Obi to Ebele, the very garrulous wife of Willy Obiano, Obi's successor. I don't even need to check, I can sit down in my house in Abeokuta to imagine it. What you will surely find is that while Ebele was going about with so much influence, constituting nuisance everywhere, Margaret Obi was almost totally away from public scene. It's not because Obi did anything honourable but because Margaret is NON IGBO from Cross Rivers State and wouldn't dare parade herself over Anambra people! Do you also know that TODAY, if anything happens to Ademola Adeleke or Arakunrin Akeredolu, their WIVES will almost SINGLE-HANDEDLY determine what happens next to their late husbands estate? But if anything happens to Peter Obi TODAY, do you know that Margaret Obi is on GOD'S GOOD HUMOUR? She WON'T EVEN DARE to open her mouth in the ANAMBRA family of her husband. She will surely be humiliated. THE Proscribed Independent Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) commiserated with Justice Jummai Sankey whose husband, Professor Yakubu Sankey was massacred recently in Kaduna South. Professor Sankey was the former Director-General of NIPPS who was assassinated in Southern Kaduna. The letter written to Justice Sankey was published under the official Tweeter Page of Omoyele Sowore on June 2, 2023. Sowore noted in his Official Twitter Page monitored by SOJ WORLDWIDE while narrating his ugly experience when he attended Nnamdi Kanu's trial, "Not surprised that Mr. Yakubu Sankey, the husband of the Court of Appeal Judge that granted reprieve to @MaziNnamdiKanu was butchered in Southern Kaduna a few days before @MBuhari left office." FULL TEXT OF IPOB LETTER TO JUSTICE JUMMAI SANKEY: "Dear Hon. Justice Jummai Sankey, I am writing to express my deepest condolences regarding the loss of your husband, Prof Sankey, the former Director General of NIPPS. We were deeply saddened to hear of his assassination by @NigeriaGov, sponsored assassins, and we offer our sincere condolences for the pain that you and your family must be feeling during this difficult time. We know that Prof Sankey was a great man who dedicated his life to public service. His contributions to the development of Nigeria were truly significant, and he will be sorely missed. The fact that he was targeted and murdered in cold blood in other to intimidate other Judges is beyond heartbreaking and unacceptable. Our movement, #IPOB, strongly condemns this senseless act of violence and demands that those responsible be brought to justice. We know how important it is to deliver justice, especially in cases where innocent people are being wrongly targeted. @MaziNnamdiKanu benefitted from your court when you stood still against @OfficialAPCNg's oppressive regime to deliver a landmark Judgement on October 13th last year. We also empathize with you as the spouse and family of the victim. Losing a loved one in such a brutal manner is indeed a great loss, and we hope that you find the strength to get through this difficult time. Once again, please accept our condolences. We pray for your comfort and that your family finds solace during this trying moment. Sincerely, IPOB Liverpool Central 28/05/2023." FORMER aide to former President Goodluck Jonathan, Reno OMOKRI has put the President of the Nigerian Labour Congress, Joe Ajaero to task over the planned nationwide strike on the removal of fuel subsidy by President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed TINUBU on May 29, 2023. In his official Tweet on Saturday, Omokri said Ajaero endorsed the Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party with evidence of group photograph. Omokri asked the NLC President if he was not listening when Obi said he would remove fuel subsidy on assumption of office if he wins. He asked again, on what basis is he calling for a nationwide strike. "This is a photo of the President of the Nigerian Labour Congress endorsing Peter Obi by providing him a platform during one of their Labour Day activities. Was NLC President Joe Ajaero not listening when Peter Obi CLEARLY said he would remove fuel subsidy IMMEDIATELY he was sworn in? So, on what basis are he and his National Executive Council members calling for a strike? When was Tinubu inaugurated? Less than a week ago. And they want Nigerians to go on strike against a week-old government? If they were really concerned about Nigeria, they would be negotiating rather than bellyaching! We will unseat Tinubu at the PEPC, by the grace of God. Until then, Nigerians should not allow anyone hoodwink them into joining a politically partisan strike disguised as a patriotic action. #TableShaker CLICK TO READ MORE DETAILS: https://www.sojworldnews.com/labour-strike-omokri-puts-nlc-president-ajaero-to-tasks-over-his-romance-with-obi/ https://www.sojworldnews.com/kogi-governor-yahaya-bello-escapes-assassination-convoy-attacked/ https://www.sojworldnews.com/ondo-govt-reacts-to-akeredolus-rumoured-death/ *CLICK to join SOJ WORLDWIDE ONLINE NEWS WhatsApp group here for our news updates as it breaks>>** https:///FwitStQA0owGSpLbi0UJAV

NLC President Joe Ajaero has asked workers to go on strike next Wednesday over the removal of petrol subsidy, despite being privy to the distressing financial figures, which justified why subsidy ought to have been scrapped a long time ago. My advice to the perceptive workers and the Nigerian populace is simply to ignore Ajaero and his ilk. He is playing politics and is actually acting the script of the opposition Labour Party, out to destabilise the young Tinubu administration. Besides, one wonders whose interest Ajaero is championing, when he did not oppose the position of his Labour Party and presidential candidate, who campaigned with the promise to scrap subsidy from Day One, if elected. NLC and TUC leaders knew since last year November that subsidy will be scrapped from July 1 as no provision has been made in the budget for it, beyond this date. The Federal Government which already commits 96 percent of its revenue in servicing debt is not in any position to continue selling subsidized fuel, most of which is smuggled across our borders for criminal and obscenely unpatriotic profit. Subsidy of fuel is no longer sustainable as the FG is virtually broke. Apart from its N77 trillion debt, it also owes the NNPC Limited about N2.4trillion for past subsidies. The Nigerian people and workers should support the government as it works out new wages and rolls out other interventions, as promised by President Tinubu, to mitigate the effects of new fuel price. Let's not make ourselves pawns in the hands of the politically biased and tainted NLC and TUC. Ajaero is no more a labour leader. He is a politician and leader of Labour Party. He is no more representing all the Nigerian workers. MAY 30, 2023 was the judgement day on the alleged murder of Timothy Adegoke, an MBA-EXECUTIVE student of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) who met his untimely death in Room 305 of Hilton Honours Hotel Ile-Ife on November 5, 2023. The courtroom was filled to capacity before the Judge, Justice Oyebola Adepele-Ojo came into the courtroom of the Osun State High Court sitting Osogbo, Osun State. Judge started reading the judgement at about 10.10am. After her pronouncement, three of the defendants were set free while the owner of the Hotel, Rahman Adedoyin was sentenced to death by hanging and 10 years imprisonment. Defendant 3 and 5, Kazeem Oyetunde and Adeniyi Aderogba respectively were also sentenced to death by hanging. The 7th defendant, Adesola Adedeji was sentenced to two years imprisonment, sentence to start counting from the day she was detained. The sentence was deferred to the second day after the defense and prosecution Counsels agreed that she was innocent of the conspiracy allegations levelled against her. She is to spend only 10 days after the calculation of the period spent in custody. The podium at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano, venue of the inauguration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, collapsed on Monday. Our reporter at the venue observed that the crowd which hung on to the pillars of the podium contributed to the collapse. He also criticised Ganduje for “departing from established democratic” practice in jetting out of the state and not personally handing over the state government to him. The Commissioner of Police, Muhammed Usaini Gumel, was on the stage when it collapsed. With the intervention of the various security operatives, it was held as many escaped unhurt. Daily Trust reports that a huge crowd converged on the stadium for the exercise. Earlier at the handover at Government House, Kano, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf (popularly known as Abba Gida Gida), vowed to probe the N241billion inherited from the administration of ex-Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje. Yusuf said the handover notes submitted by Ganduje through the outgoing Secretary to the State Government was not enough and very scanty. “The handover notes not enough for us. It is a very scanty note. The transition committee report was also very scanty. “Nothing we can do as representatives of the state, we can’t refuse to collect what was given to us. We will look at it. Where we are satisfied, we will take action. Where we are also not satisfied, we will also take action accordingly. “It is so disheartening that the government left a debt profile of over N241billion for us. Where are we going to source the money? The IGR they talk about is nothing to write home about. The money they realized through Kano Internal Revenue Service was nothing to write home about. Why the use of so many consultants? Just like rain conduit for the resources of people Kano state. We are going to look at it. I am not satisfied!” CLICK TO READ MORE DETAILS: https://www.sojworldnews.com/podium-for-swearing-in-of-new-kano-state-governor-yusuf-collapses/ https://www.sojworldnews.com/first-speech-of-tinubu-as-the-executive-president-of-nigeria-full-text/ https://www.sojworldnews.com/breaking-against-all-odds-tinubu-is-now-the-executive-president-of-nigeria/ CLICK to join SOJ WORLDWIDE ONLINE NEWS WhatsApp group here: https:///Ch4rMRLBwihFN76JW3Fagm

My Fellow Citizens, I stand before you honoured to assume the sacred mandate you have given me. My love for this nation is abiding. My confidence in its people, unwavering. And my faith in God Almighty, absolute. I know that His hand shall provide the needed moral strength and clarity of purpose in those instances when we seem to have reached the limits of our human capacity. This day is bold and majestic yet bright and full of spirit, as is our precious nation. As a nation, we have long ago decided to march beyond the dimness of night into the open day of renewed national hope. The question we now ask ourselves is whether to remain faithful to the work inherent in building a better society or retreat into the shadows of our unmet potential. For me, there is but one answer. We are too great a nation and too grounded as a people to rob ourselves of our finest destiny. This nation’s journey has been shaped by the prayers of millions, and the collective sacrifices of us all. We have endured hardships that would have made other societies crumble. Yet, we have shouldered the heavy burden to arrive at this SUBLIME moment where the prospect of a better future merges with our improved capacity to create that future. To the surprise of many but not to ourselves, we have more firmly established this land as a democracy in both word and deed. The peaceful transition from one government to another is now our political tradition. This handover symbolizes our trust in God, our enduring faith in representative governance and our belief in our ability to reshape this nation into the society it was always meant to be. Here, permit me to say a few words to my predecessor, President Muhammadu Buhari. Mr President, you have been an honest, patriotic leader who has done his best for the nation you love. On a more personal note, you are a worthy partner and friend. May History be kind to you. For many years, Nigeria’s critics have trafficked the rumour that our nation will break apart, even perish. Yet here we are. We have stumbled at times, but our resilience and diversity have kept us going. Our burdens may make us bend at times, but they shall never break us. Instead, we stand forth as Africa’s most populous nation and as the best hope and strongest champion of the Black Race. As citizens, we declare as one unified people devoted to one unified national cause, that as long as this world exists, NIGERIA SHALL EXIST Today, Fate and Destiny join together to place the torch of human progress in our very hands. We dare not let it slip. We lift high this torch so that it might shine on every household and in every heart that calls itself Nigerian. We hold this beam aloft because it lights our path with compassion, brotherhood, and peace. May this great light never EXTINGUISH. Our administration shall govern on your behalf but never rule over you. We shall consult and dialogue but never dictate. We shall reach out to all but never put down a single person for holding views contrary to our own. We are here to further mend and heal this nation, not tear and injure it. In this vein, may I offer a few comments regarding the election that brought us to this juncture. It was a hard fought contest. And it was also fairly won. Since the advent of the Fourth Republic, Nigeria has not held an election of better quality. The outcome reflected the will of the people. However, my victory does not render me any more Nigerian than my opponents. Nor does it render them any less patriotic. They shall forever be my fellow compatriots. And I will treat them as such. They represent important constituencies and concerns that wisdom dare not ignore. They have taken their concerns to court. Seeking legal redress is their right and I fully defend their exercise of this right. This is the essence of the rule of law. Over six decades ago, our founding fathers gave bravely of themselves to place Nigeria on the map as an independent nation. We must never allow the labor of those who came before us to wither in vain but to blossom and bring forth a better reality. Let us take the next great step in the journey they began and believed in. Today, let us recommit our very selves to placing Nigeria in our hearts as the indispensable home for each and every one of us regardless of creed, ethnicity, or place of birth. My supporters, I thank you. To those who voted otherwise, I extend my hand across the political divide. I ask you to grasp it in national affinity and brotherhood. For me, political coloration has faded away. All I see are Nigerians. May we uphold these fitting and excellent notions as the new Nigerian ideal. My fellow compatriots, The Nigerian ideal which I speak of is more than just an improvement in economic and other statistics. These things are important; but they can never convey the fullness of our story. Our mission is to improve our way of life in a manner that nurtures our humanity, encourages compassion toward one another, and duly rewards our collective effort to resolve the social ills that seek to divide us. Our constitution and laws give us a nation on paper. We must work harder at bringing these noble documents to life by strengthening the bonds of economic collaboration, social cohesion, and cultural understanding. Let us develop a shared sense of fairness and equity. The South must not only seek good for itself but must understand that its interests are served when good comes to the North. The North must see the South likewise. Whether from the winding creeks of the Niger Delta, the vastness of the northern savannah, the boardrooms of Lagos, the bustling capital of Abuja, or the busy markets of Onitsha, you are all my people. As your president, I shall serve with prejudice toward none but compassion and amity towards all. In the coming days and weeks, my team will publicly detail key aspects of our programme. Today, permit me to outline in broad terms a few initiatives that define our concept of progressive good governance in furtherance of the Nigerian ideal: The principles that will guide our administration are simple: 1. Nigeria will be impartially governed according to the constitution and the rule of law. 2. We shall defend the nation from terror and all forms of criminality that threaten the peace and stability of our country and our subregion 3. We shall remodel our economy to bring about growth and development through job creation, food security and an end of extreme poverty. 4. In our administration, Women and youth will feature prominently. 5. Our government will continue to take proactive steps such as championing a credit culture to discourage corruption while strengthening the effectiveness and efficiency of the various anti-corruption agencies. SECURITY Security shall be the top priority of our administration because neither prosperity nor justice can prevail amidst insecurity and violence. To effectively tackle this menace, we shall reform both our security DOCTRINE and its ARCHITECTURE. We shall invest more in our security personnel, and this means more than an increase in number. We shall provide, better training, equipment, pay and firepower. THE ECONOMY On the economy, we target a higher GDP growth and to significantly reduce unemployment. We intend to accomplish this by taking the following steps: First, budgetary reform stimulating the economy without engendering inflation will be instituted. Second, industrial policy will utilize the full range of fiscal measures to promote domestic manufacturing and lessen import dependency. Third, electricity will become more accessible and affordable to businesses and homes alike. Power generation should nearly double and transmission and distribution networks improved. We will encourage states to develop local sources as well. I have a message for our investors, local and foreign: our government shall review all their complaints about multiple taxation and various anti-investment inhibitions. We shall ensure that investors and foreign businesses repatriate their hard earned dividends and profits home. JOBS My administration must create meaningful opportunities for our youth. We shall honour our campaign commitment of one million new jobs in the digital economy. Our government also shall work with the National Assembly to fashion an omnibus Jobs and Prosperity bill. This bill will give our administration the policy space to embark on labour-intensive infrastructural improvements, encourage light industry and provide improved social services for the poor, elderly and vulnerable. Agriculture Rural incomes shall be secured by commodity exchange boards guaranteeing minimal prices for certain crops and animal products. A nationwide programme for storage and other facilities to reduce spoilage and waste will be undertaken. Agricultural hubs will be created throughout the nation to increase production and engage in value-added processing. The livestock sector will be introduced to best modern practices and steps taken to minimize the perennial conflict over land and water resources in this sector. Through these actions, food shall be made more abundant yet less costly. Farmers shall earn more while the average Nigerian pays less. INFRASTRUCTURE We shall continue the efforts of the Buhari administration on infrastructure. Progress toward national networks of roads, rail and ports shall get priority attention. FUEL SUBSIDY We commend the decision of the outgoing administration in phasing out the petrol subsidy regime which has increasingly favoured the rich more than the poor. Subsidy can no longer justify its ever-increasing costs in the wake of drying resources. We shall instead re-channel the funds into better investment in public infrastructure, education, health care and jobs that will materially improve the lives of millions. MONETARY POLICY Monetary policy needs thorough housecleaning. The Central Bank must work towards a unified exchange rate. This will direct funds away from arbitrage into meaningful investment in the plant, equipment and jobs that power the real economy. Interest rates need to be reduced to increase investment and consumer purchasing in ways that sustain the economy at a higher level. Whatever merits it had in concept, the currency swap was too harshly applied by the CBN given the number of unbanked Nigerians. The policy shall be reviewed. In the meantime, my administration will treat both currencies as legal tender. FOREIGN POLICY Given the world in which we reside, please permit a few comments regarding foreign policy. The crisis in Sudan and the turn from democracy by several nations in our immediate neighbourhood are of pressing concern. As such, my primary foreign policy objective must be the peace and stability of the West African subregion and the African continent. We shall work with ECOWAS, the AU and willing partners in the international community to end extant conflicts and to resolve new ones. As we contain threats to peace, we shall also retool our foreign policy to more actively lead the regional and continental quest for collective prosperity. Conclusion This is the proudest day of my life. But this day does not belong to me. It belongs to you, the people of Nigeria. On this day, Nigeria affirms its rightful place among the world’s great democracies. There, Nigeria shall reside forever. The course of our past and the promise of the future have brought us to this exceptional moment. In this spirit, I ask you to join me in making Nigeria a more perfect nation and democracy such that the Nigerian ideal becomes and forever remains the Nigerian reality. With full confidence in our ability, I declare that these things are within our proximate reach because my name is Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and I am the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. May God bless you and May He bless our beloved land. THE Presidential elections of February 25, 2023 was the most keenly contested since I knew my left from right in the annals of the history of Nigeria. We had four top contenders to Aso Rock, Abuja, they are, Peter OBI of the Labour Party, Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Rabiu Kwakwanso of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and Asiwaju Bola Ahmed TINUBU of the All Progressives Congress (APC). The election has come and gone, a candidate emerged winner as announced by the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Mahmood Yakubu. It is now history that Yakubu announced Asiwaju Bola Ahmed TINUBU as the President-Elect of the Federal Republic of Nigeria but two of the candidates, Atiku and Obi are still challenging Tinubu's victory at the Election Petition Tribunal pending the outcome of the legal battle, Tinubu will be at the helm of affairs. As Muhammadu Buhari is stepping out from Aso Rock, Tinubu is going in to face the challenges of leading the most populous nation in Africa. Tinubu's coming will take supernatural intervention of God to bring Nigeria back to its glorious days. My fears about Tinubu's presidency are not far fetched considering the precarious situation of our economy, security, education, social vices, corruption as has never been experienced since Nigeria's independence in 1960. Either by acts of omission or commission, Buhari is leaving Nigeria worse than he met it with generational debt portfolio. Buhari's administration is noted for borrowing, as at the time of writing this piece, our debt portfolio was over Seventy Trillion Naira with humongous sum still waiting at the National Assembly for approval. How will Tinubu, as a President, bring back our economy? How will he fight terrorism, banditry, kidnappings and corruption? Sometimes I wonder what are these candidates fighting for in Nigeria? Is there any hope for survival? Our economy and cohesion is in shambles, it will take our Lord Jesus Christ to bring our dead Lazarus back to life. How will Tinubu unite our major religions, the Muslims and the Christians who are supposed to be agent of peace and tranquility but has torn the country into shreds? What will Tinubu presidency do to the invading herders, ethnic cleansing in Kaduna South, Benue, Plateau States and unnecessary shedding of blood in the South East? Debates for removal of subsidy is gathering momentum everyday. Can entire Nigerians endure removal of another fuel subsidy when the ruling government has increased pump fuel price from N70 to over N200 per litre, yet still thinking of another removal. How many times will subsidy be removed? Economic analysts encouraging the removal of fuel subsidy should not back-out if the resulting effects bring social upheavals. No one is talking about reviving of our refineries or recovery of stolen funds that will enable the masses to have a sigh of relief, at least, for once. The genesis of terrorism, banditry, kidnappings and other vices in Nigeria was because our commonwealth are not evenly distributed. What would have gone round have been looted by few powerful people in the society. Those that were caught with stolen billions of Naira are walking free with audacity to fight back when the authority has no political will to prosecute them. My prayer, is, Tinubu will not be stoned for what he knew nothing about in the streets because Nigerians can no longer exercise any patience for another rounds of pains and agonies. My instinct told me there is no way Nigeria can get better without first going through excruciating pains. I hope we would be able to endure the pains ahead of us without revolting against a wrong leader for the inefficiency of his predecessors. There is no doubt that Tinubu is capable of turning around the economy but can Nigerians endure the pains associated with it? In view of the above fears, I would keep my fingers crossed for Tinubu to prove me wrong that he can do it. I had earlier put my hope in Buhari presidency, unfortunately, my confidence in Buhari was like when your fiance call it quit on wedding day when guests are already waiting at the event centres. I was highly disappointed as my hopes were dashed. Mind you, Tinubu is still the best candidate among the top contenders. If the United States President, Joe Biden is our new president I doubt if he can make any difference. Nigeria is a difficult nation to lead. My consolation is in the fact that if Governor Babagana Zulum can turn around the war torn Borno State around, there is hope for our turnaround. First task before the new President to carry Nigerians along is to work on how he and those at the top can be trusted, tell us the truth and lead by examples. On this note, I wish Asiwaju Bola Ahmed TINUBU successful tenure to take Nigeria to our 'Goshen land', our 'Promise land' flowing with milk and honey. If this happens, his name will be written as someone who has been written off, underrated but has now become our chief 'cornerstone'. American Star Singer, Tina Turner who died on Wednesday, May 24, 2023 at her home in kusnacht near Zurich, Switzerland. She was 83. Tina narrated in her interview with Larry King how her husband, Ike turned her to a punching bag even in the dressing room when fans are already waiting for their performance in a concert. Tina Turner, the dynamic rock and soul singer who rose from humble beginnings and overcame a notoriously abusive marriage to become one of the most popular female artists of all time, has died, her family announced in a statement. “With her, the world loses a music legend and a role model,” her family said. “With her music and her boundless passion for life, she enchanted millions of fans around the world and inspired the stars of tomorrow. Today we say goodbye to a dear friend who leaves us all her greatest work: her music. All our heartfelt compassion goes out to her family. Tina, we will miss you dearly,” a statement on her verified Facebook page read. A riveting live performer, Turner had a string of R&B hits in the 1960s and early ’70s with her domineering and violent husband Ike Turner before she left him – fleeing their Dallas hotel room with 36 cents. Her solo career floundered for years before she mounted a stunning comeback in 1984 with her multiplatinum album “Private Dancer” and its No. 1 hit, “What’s Love Got to Do With It.” Before long Turner was a global superstar, commanding MTV with her spiky wigs, short skirts and famously long legs strutting across concert stages in three-inch heels. Her talent earned her acclaim as the “Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll,” while her resiliency made her a hero to battered women everywhere. When she sang of pain and heartache in her husky, full-throated voice, every word rang true. “For a long time I felt like I was stuck, with no way out of the unhealthy situation I was in,” she told Harvard Business Review in 2021. “But then I had a series of encounters with different people who encouraged me … And once I could see myself clearly, I began to change, opening the way to confidence and courage. It took a few years, but finally I was able to stand up for my life and start anew.” ‘He knew I had potential to be a star’ She was born Anna Mae Bullock in 1939 to poor sharecroppers near Nutbush, Tennessee, a rural community north of Memphis that she later made famous in her autobiographical song, “Nutbush City Limits.” She spent her early years living with her grandmother after her parents split. “We weren’t in poverty. We had food on the table. We just didn’t have fancy things, like bicycles,” Turner said in a 2005 interview with Oprah Winfrey. “We were church people, so on Easter, we got all done up. I was very innocent and didn’t know much else. I knew the radio—B.B. King, country and western,” Turner said. “That’s about it. I didn’t know anything about being a star until the white people allowed us to come down and watch their television once a week.” Following the death of their grandmother in the 1950s, Turner and her sister Ruby moved to St. Louis, Missouri, to live with their mother. It was in St. Louis that she began to visit some of the local clubs and met musician Ike Turner, whose band, Kings of Rhythm, were popular in the area. He recruited her at age 17 to join his band as a singer. “Ike had to come to the house and ask Ma if it was OK for me to sing with him. He knew I had the potential to be a star. We were close, like brother and sister,” Turner told Winfrey. “On his off nights, we’d drive around town, and he would tell me about his life, his dreams. He told me that when he was young, people found him unattractive. That really hurt him. I felt bad for him. I thought, ‘I’ll never hurt you, Ike.’ I meant it. He was so nice to me then, but I did see the other side of him.” She began performing as Tina Turner and, in 1960, they formed the Ike & Tina Turner Revue. Their relationship evolved and their son Ronnie was born that same year. They married in 1962 and raised four children, including two children from Ike’s previous relationships and Tina’s son, Craig, also from a previous relationship. A brutal union As Turner has stated in her autobiography and in interviews, the physical abuse began almost from the start. Thin-skinned and mercurial, Ike Turner would fly into fits of rage at the slightest provocation, she said, adding that he would hit her with whatever was available – coat hangers, telephones, a wooden shoe stretcher, his fists. Often, she said, he’d even beat her before they went onstage. “He’d hit me in the ribs, and then always try to give me a black eye. He wanted his abuse to be seen. That was the shameful part,” Turner told Winfrey. Tina sang lead on most of their songs with the help of female backup singers, while her husband remained in the background, usually on guitar. Their musical partnership yielded a string of R&B hits, including “A Fool In Love,” “Nutbush City Limits” and “Proud Mary,” their 1971 cover of a Creedence Clearwater Revival song, which reached No. 4 on the pop charts and won them a Grammy. But offstage their marriage remained tumultuous, fueled in part by Ike Turner’s cocaine addiction. “Another night we had a fight in the dressing room, and when I went onstage, my face was swollen,” she told Winfrey. “I think my nose was broken because blood was gushing into my mouth when I sang. Before, I’d been able to hide under makeup. But you can’t hide swelling.” She stuck with Ike Turner for more than a decade, terrified of his temper and determined not to abandon him like others had. But things came to a head in July 1976 when they flew to Dallas for a show. Turner wrote in her book that after a flight on the airplane, her husband began hitting her in a car on the way to their hotel. While he slept, she slipped out of their room, carrying only a Mobil credit card and 36 cents – “a quarter, a dime and a penny.” She fled across a busy highway to a motel, where a sympathetic clerk saw her bloodied face and gave her a room. She then called a lawyer she knew, who arranged for a friend to pick her up and put her on an airplane back to Los Angeles. “After my plane landed in California, my heart was in my ears. I was afraid Ike would be there because when I’d left once before, he tracked me down on a bus…” she told Oprah. “So when I got off that plane, I ran like mad. I said to myself, ‘If he’s here, I’m going to scream for the police. And I had one chant in my head: ‘I will die before I go back.’ By then a friend had introduced Turner to Buddhism and its practice of chanting, which she credited with giving her the strength to leave her husband. Raised Baptist, Turner embraced Buddhism whole-heartedly in middle age and said its teachings changed her life. “I came to understand that any achievement stems from inner change,” she told Harvard Business Review. “The more I studied Buddhist principles, the deeper I dug within myself and cleaned up whatever attitudes or habits were standing in my way.” She and Ike were formally divorced in 1978 after a long legal battle. She wrote in her book that he retained most of the earnings and assets they had earned as a couple, while she cared for their four sons. The divorce almost ruined her financially, and for the next few years Turner performed on TV specials and in Las Vegas as she struggled to rebuild her career. Her comeback gained momentum after she hired Australian manager Roger Davies in 1979. Rod Stewart invited her to perform “Hot Legs” with him on “Saturday Night Live” two years later, and in 1983, her cover of Al Green’s “Let’s Stay Together” became a hit in England. Then came “Private Dancer,” which spawned three Top 10 hits, won her three Grammys and eventually sold more than 10 million copies. Although she didn’t like the song at first and had to be talked into recording it, “What’s Love Got to Do With It” made her, at 44, the oldest female artist to score a No. 1 hit. In 1985, at the peak of her powers, she sang on the all-star charity single “We Are the World,” performed with Mick Jagger at the historic Live Aid concerts and co-starred in Mel Gibson’s post-apocalyptic film “Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome,” scoring another hit with “We Don’t Need Another Hero,” a song from the movie. The next year Turner chronicled her early career and abusive marriage in a best-selling memoir, “I, Tina,” which was adapted into a hit 1993 film, “What’s Love Got To Do With It,” starring Angela Bassett. The hit albums, singles and sold-out concerts continued throughout the late ’80s and ‘90s, and Turner remained a popular live act well into the new millennium – especially in England. Turner moved to Switzerland in the 1990s with German boyfriend Erwin Bach, an executive for her record company. He was 16 years younger. The pair married in 2013 after a 27-year romantic relationship and in 2022 bought a $76 million estate on Lake Zurich. “I pay taxes here (in the US). My family is here,” she told CNN’s Larry King in 1997. “I left America because my (biggest) success was in another country and my boyfriend was in another country. Europe has been very supportive of my music.” Ike and Tina Turner were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1991 and she was inducted as a solo artist in 2021. “Tina,” a musical based on her life story, opened on Broadway in 2018. Turner is preceded in death by her two sons, Craig, who died in 2018, and Ronnie, in 2022. “Some of the happiest moments in my life were the birth of my beautiful baby boys, Craig and Ronnie, and marrying my partner and soul mate, Erwin Bach,” she told NBC’s Today Show in 2021. Professionally, she said, her happiest moments were performing live. “One of my early career goals was to become the first Black woman to fill stadiums around the world,” she told NBC. “At the time, it seemed impossible. But I never gave up, and I’m so happy I made that dream come true.
