It is time for President Muhammadu Buhari to show Emefiele the way out and appoint someone with fresh ideas that will bring relief to Nigerians to avoid setting the nation on fire like we experienced in Ondo State in August 1983 when Adekunle Ajasin was robbed of his governorship mandate and given to Chief Akin Omoboriowo; unless if the President want to be remembered as someone who started well but ended on a sad notel

Bankers have been subjected to untold harassments, intimidations and attacks by frustrated Nigerians for the policy they were not part of.

The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele came with the Cashless Policy in the last quarter of 2022 with great applause by Nigerians, although the policy was not initiated by him.

The Cashless Policy was initiated by the former CBN Governor, Lamido Sanusi who was sacked by Former President Goodluck Jonathan administration for blowing the whistle of massive corruption in the system.

After the sack of Sanusi in 2014, Emefiele was appointed to takeover from him.

It will be recalled that Emefiele was the MD/CEO of Zenith Bank Plc prior to his appointment.

Cashless Policy ought to have taken off between 2014 and 2015 if Sanusi had remained the governor of the CBN but Emefiele  jettisoned this noble policy when it was needed most before the 2015 general elections.

The same man remembered the policy when it was few months to 2023 general elections after over seven years he assumed office as the governor of the CBN.

In his first Press briefing, he said the Cash Swap would last for three months, which means the old Naira denominations of N200, N500 and N1,000 will no longer be legal tender and will replace new redesign notes that was meant to checkmate election riggers, money laundering, other cash related vices in the system.  He gave Nigerians three months to deposit the old Naira notes as against two weeks given to Nigerians by Buhari/Idiagbon military regime in 1984.

Initially, he gave a directive that an individual can no longer withdraw more than N20,000 per day while corporate bodies can only withdraw N100,000 per day.

Signs of inconsistency rear its ugly heads when he shifted grounds due to public outcry to increase individual cash withdrawal from N20,0000 to N100,000 while corporate bodies was increased to N5,000,000 per week.

Initially, Emefiele directed the banks to pay only N200 denominations from the ATM after the launch of the new notes.  Barely few days later, he ordered that banks should be paying N500 and N1,000 from the same ATM.   

Incompetence, confusion and bad implementation of a good policy started revealing itself giving the impression that it has a political undertone.  

Signs of insufficient new Naira notes and suffering of the masses eventually forced President Muhammadu Buhari to extend the cash swap from January 31, 2023 to February 10, 2023.

Findings of several weeks revealed that the CBN Governor had no genuine plan for the tasks ahead of him. His action gave rooms for panic measures to the detriment of the bank and their staff.

At a time, CBN gave a directive that paying Tellers should be writing down the numbers of Naira notes paid to customers. How possible could this be?  When this failed they resorted to blame game against the banks.

My findings revealed that some banks went to the CBN for three consecutive days without getting the new Naira notes.  As at the time of writing this article, bank vaults are empty of both old and new Naira notes. Are we at war? Why creating problems for innocent Nigerians when there was none?

Only Emefiele can answer this question, he alone knows his agenda that is hidden to other Nigerians.

Because the CBN is the apex bank and has the power to sanction any commercial banks, the banks cannot complain thereby suffering in silence.

Meanwhile, over 1,000 Micro-finance Banks that are closer to the downtrodden masses were not factored into the policy. After their customers have deposited their old cash for onward deposit at the banks, they no longer have access to their money leading to collapse of many businesses. MFBs are not allowed to withdraw cash from their parent banks on behalf of the customers thereby subjecting them to untold hardships. CBN turned their back as if it had no knowledge of their registration, as if they are operating illegally. Was it  not the CBN that issued Operating Licences to these local banks?

Hoarding of cash by three or four branches of any bank was not enough to subject innocent bankers to attacks and burning of banks and destroying their properties as we have been witnessing in the past days. 

The success or failure of the cash swap policy rest solely on the shoulder of the CBN as the apex bank and Governor Godwin Emefiele.  He is the architect of our hardships, pains and agonies.

Emefiele is the first Governor of the CBN to throw his hat to the ring to contest for presidency without first resigning his appointment when he knew that all INEC Sensitive materials are kept in the CBN before any election.  In a normal clime, he ought to have been sacked by President Muhammadu Buhari but here we are, in limbo.

Would there have been any reason to hoard cash if there is enough cash with the banks to go round?

There are many cases of casualties since the beginning of the year because Nigerians could not have access to the money they legitimately worked for to feed themselves and families.

Many who are frustrated went nude in the banking Hall to show their grievances because they could not withdraw part of their cash deposited in the bank.

A man was reported to have lost his pregnant wife who bled to death while under child delivery because the hospital refused cash transfer and there was none to help pay his hospital bills.

A man was reported to have slumped and died while queuing at the ATM point.

The burden and problem of this badly implemented policy rests solely on bank staff who have been going through lots of trauma in the past weeks.  Only few Nigerians knew that since this cash swap started, bankers have been going to office everyday of the week including Saturdays and Sundays working late into the nights. No rest.

The bankers remain the last resort that interface with the customers hence they are subject to attacks because of the impressions coming from the CBN that banks are hoarding the cash. It is clear to all and sundry that the Emefiele is not prepared.  If the unconfirmed report that the Nigerian Printing and Minting Company have no capacity to print out the cash that will go round in the next three years is correct,  then we are in trouble.

As at the time of writing this article, my findings revealed in most of the banks visited and numbers of bank staff interviewed, most banks have exhausted their cash including lower denominations of N100, N50 and N20 and the CBN is helpless and cannot meet up their demands.

One would be forced to ask this pertinent question, "on whose behalf was this draconian policy implemented?"
Was is it purposely done to make life unbearable for the people?
Nigerians are at the crossroads, we have never had it so bad.

We just cannot continue like this, enough is enough!

THE Southwest Labour Party was said to have collapsed its entire structure into the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) on Monday, February 13, 2023.

The Leadership Newspaper captured the moment the alleged membership cards were torn into pieces and swept away as can be seen in the video clip below.

But in a reaction, the Ondo State chapter of Labour Party debunked the reports of defection and collapsing of structure by the party in southwest region for the Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

In a statement released and signed by Remilekun Ojo, the Ondo State Chairman of LP, refuted the report, explaining that the purported defection was chaired by an expelled member of the party.

“The attention of the Labour Party of Nigeria especially the Ondo State Chapter has been drawn to a purported meeting/defection held at Adegbemile hall, Akure, today Monday 13th February 2023 at noon.

“The meeting attended by about a few dozen people alleged that the entire Southwest Labour Party has been merged with the All Progressive Congress (APC) with effect from today. As expected, the meeting was chaired by an expelled Labour Party member, Mr. Banji Omotoso, who was the then caretaker state chairman in Ekiti state from 2017 to 2019,” she said.

She maintained that the party in the region remained indivisible and “has never at any time and will under no circumstances ever think of merging with any other Party, not even the All Progressives Congress (APC) that has brought untold hardship and suffering to the entire nation.”

The LP chairman insisted that the acclaimed coordinator of LP in the Southwest, Mr. Banji Omotosho, who defected to the APC has ceased being their member since January 2020.

Speaking further, Ojo added that Omotosho has no authority to speak of the Labour party in the southwest, stating that the later “was expelled for gross malfeasance and anti-party activities.”

A 47-year-old Nigerian man, Frederick met his untimely death fighting the school bus driver in Lagos who allegedly defiled his seven-year-old daughter.

He died on the school premises during a scuffle with the driver, identified as Jacob, the News Agency of Nigeria reports.

Frederick along with his wife and daughter had gone to meet the school management to narrate how the seven-year-old was being allegedly sexually assaulted by Jacob and to seek immediate action.

But it led to a scuffle which cost Frederick his life. After he died, Jacob absconded from the scene, leading to a manhunt by the police.


Spokesman for the Lagos State police command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed the incident to NAN and said the police were on the trail of the driver and would not relent until he was brought to justice.

Frederick’s widow had told NAN that her daughter narrated to her how Jacob had been taking her to his house at Ajuwon in Ogun to sexually molest her.

She said she narrated the girl’s account to husband and that he called the school and was asked to come so that the matter could be settled.

“On Wednesday, February 1, my daughter told me that her school bus driver had been taking her to his house at Ajuwon, on the pretext that he needed to drop something at home and that she should follow him.

“When they entered the house, the driver would ask my daughter to sit on his lap; to raise her school uniform and to kiss him on his mouth.

“I told my husband what our daughter said on Monday, February 6 and he immediately called the school to lodge a complaint and said he was also reporting the allegation to the police.

“He was told to come to the school first so we went there on Tuesday, February 7 and we met the school owner, the driver and some of the teachers.

“The school owner after listening to us; confronted the driver, saying that he had returned late with the school bus the previous week and when asked, he said he had gone to drop something at home.

“He was later asked about the allegations levelled against him, but he denied. My daughter was then asked and she narrated the same experience she told us at home.

“The driver couldn’t say anything other than to query: `me?’ ‘me?’ ‘me?’
“My husband who was visibly angry went to the driver and shouted at him to question why he had molested his daughter.

“My husband angrily slapped the driver and they started fighting during which he pushed my husband on his chest. He fell and efforts to revive him were abortive.
“We rushed him to a hospital, where he was confirmed dead,’’ the widow said.
She added that Jacob absconded after the incident and she subsequently reported the matter at Iju Police Station.
The director of the school declined to speak on the matter, saying that he was assisting the police to find Jacob.

Remembering Murtala Mohammed 47 Years After Assassination By Dimka written Adesoji OMOSEBI. (NEWS BEHIND THE NEWS+COUP BROADCASTS)



47 years ago was a day never to be forgotten easily in the history of Nigeria, that was a day history of the nation was altered.

Friday, February 13, 1976 was a black Friday in the history of Nigeria that students of history needs to have it at the back of their minds for posterity. The charismatic Head of State, General Murtala Muhammed was gunned down few minutes drive from his office at the Dodan Barracks, Lagos at his prime age of 38.

When Lt. Col. Bukar Dimka of the Nigeria Army Physical Training Corps stepped out of his official residence on Macpherson Road, Ikoyi, in the early hours of February 13, 1976, he had one agenda in mind; the killing of the then Head of State, Gen. Murtala Muhammed.

He achieved that criminal act by gunning down the Kano-born Head of State a few minutes after the latter left the Dodan Barracks, Obalende, the official seat of the Federal Military Government at the time.

Muhammed official black Mercedes Benz was riddled with bullets near a petrol station on Bank Road, (now Murtala Muhammed Drive) opposite the Federal Secretariat, Ikoyi. Killed along with him were, his ADC, Lt. Akintunde Akinsehinwa and driver.

After the assassination, Dimka had made a broadcast at the Nigerian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) studio,
"Good morning fellow Nigerians, This is Lt. Col. B. Dimka of the Nigerian Army calling.
I bring you good tidings. Murtala Muhammed deficiency has been detected. His government is now overthrown by the young revolutionaries. Any attempt to foil these plans from any quarters will be met with death."
"Everyone should be calm. Please stay by your radio for further announcements. All borders, air and sea ports are closed until further notice. Curfew is imposed from 6am to 6pm. Thank you. We are all together."

Two days after Muhammed was assassinated, Dimka was declared wanted for treason and murder by military authorities. He was eventually caught at a checkpoint at Abakaliki on March 5, 1976 and brought to Lagos the following day.

On March 6, 1976, the Federal Government promptly issued a statement of his arrest as follows: His arrest followed a massive manhunt operation mounted by a combined team of the Army and Police in the area.

The previous day, Lt. Col Dimka had checked in at a local hotel in Afikpo under the name of Mr. C. Godwin of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Enugu. Later, on his request, the Hotel Manager secured for him a girl, Miss. Beatrice Agboli, with whom to spent the night.

A few hours later, the local Police security was alerted and they closed up on him. At about 10.30 pm, he bolted away through the window of the toilet of his hotel room into a nearby thick bush, abandoning his car with a dangling registration number ECC 6253.

The continuous joint manhunt operation by the Army and Police resulted in his subsequent arrest near Abakaliki.

Barely few hours after he was brought to Lagos, he was interrogated by the Military Board of Inquiry led by Major Gen. E. O. Abisoye.

However, while Dimka was being quizzed, 32 people including Major Gen. Illiya Bisalla, who had already been tried for their roles in the attempted coup were executed in Lagos on March 11, 1976.

The only civilian executed among them was Abdulkarim Zakari, a graduate of University of Ibadan, who was said to have led Dimka and others into the studios of the NBC on February 13, 1976. The broadcaster was also cited as the man who signed for martial music records from the NBC library the previous night.

Just as the first batch of coup plotters were executed, Dimka's trial begin after he was presented to the Press on March 11, 1976.

Handcuffed, Dimka who wore a Katftan dress watched journalists listen to a tape recording of his appearance before the Board of Inquiry for about five minutes. He confirmed that the voice on the tape was his own and that it was a recording made at his interrogation. He emphasized that the statement was not made under duress.

According to a Daily Times publication, 13 Years of Military Rule 1966-79 the highlights of Dimka confessional statements included,  Frankly speaking, I should say the beginning of the coup idea was around January this year (1976).

He said he had discussions with some persons including former Head of State, Gen. Yakubu Gowon in London and when he returned to the country, he decided to assign responsibilities to members of the young revolutionaries conscripted into the plan.

But Gowon, who was in exile at the time denied any prior knowledge of the coup attempt.

Dimka also claimed the coup plot was hatched by young officers who resolved not to involve any Lieutenant Colonel and above except himself in a bid to effect a change of government.

In his confessional statement, he said, Gen. Bisalla had complained to him and expressed his frustration that despite being a Member of the Supreme Military Council (SMC), each time there was a decision to be taken, he was either sent to one place or the other.

Dimka said, "Bisalla Told me that whatever will happen he want us to go ahead, and work out the details."

Explaining how responsibilities were distributed, the leader of the coup plot said "When I met Major Rabo, he said that he had finally distributed responsibilities. Major Rabo was for target one- Head of State, Lt. Dauda was for target two- Lt. Gen. Obasanjo, Lawrence Garba was for target three- Lt. Gen. Danjuma."

Major Gagara was for Ilorin and Sokoto, Jos had nobody. The main centres of operations were Kaduna, Ibadan, Benin where there are Radio stations.

He also listed the targets of attack, that is, those to be eliminated as the Head of State, the four GOCs, Col. Babangida, Col. Bajowa, Col. Mohammed of Sokoto, Col. Ibrahim Taiwo of Kwara, Col. Abdullahi of Jos and Col. Jemibewon of Ibadan.

Dimka also confessed before the Military Board of Inquiry how Zakari showed him the NBC broadcasting section on February 12, a day before the coup attempt.

On how the ex-Head of State was killed, he said, "I stood at George Street with Major Rabo to wait until such a time when the Head of State car was coming out. There, one Capt. Malaki who was to give the warning order. Capt. Malaki was to be on the watch to signal Major Rabo and Lt. William Seri on the approach of the vehicle. So I came up and I was at the Petrol Station waiting.'"

™I was behind while we were talking when the Commander-in-Chief car passed. In fact, I did not even see it until when Malaki said the car has passed. So, we rushed in and then followed and the car was held somewhere just opposite the Petrol Station.

Lt. Seri was approaching the car when we stopped and Major Rabo rushed to him, then the firing started."

Dimka confessed that after the Head of State was assassinated, he went to the NBC and made his broadcast that the young revolutionaries had taken over the government.

At the end of his trial, coup leader and a number of others were found guilty of treason and murder. Their death sentences were confirmed by the Supreme Military Council.

Dimka and seven others were eventually executed by firing squad at Kirikiri Prisons on May 15, 1976, for their part in the abortive coup. Also executed among the squad was the former Governor of the then Benue Plateau State, Joseph Gomwalk.

However, two NCOs, Sgt. Clement Yildar and Corporal Dauda Usman escaped and were never found. They were declared wanted by the authorities.

The situation led to the promulgation by Olusegun Obasanjo regime of certain retrospective decrees and new military laws justifying mass executions for coup participation.

Second Broadcast by Dimka before arrest and execution:-
"Fellow Nigerians,
This is Lt. Col. B.S. Dimka. I now explain why we the Young Revolutionaries of the Armed Forces have found it necessary to overthrow the six month old government of Murtala. On the 29th July 1975 the Government of General Gowon was overthrown. Some of the reasons given for the change were:

a. Corruption
b. Indecision
c. Arrest and detention without trial
d. Weakness on the part of the Head of State
e. Maladministration in general and a host of other malpractice.
Every honest Nigerian will agree with me that since the change over of government there has not been any physical development in the whole country generally.

All we have is arbitrary dismissal of innocent Nigerians who have contributed in no less amount to the building of this great nation.
A Professor was arrested, detained, dismissed and later taken to court on an article which every honest Nigerian will agree that all the points contained in that article were 100% truth.

The sad point about it all is that those who initiated the retirement or dismissal exercise are the worst offenders.
You will be informed about the ill-gotten wealth in my next announcement.

The Acting General Manager of the Nigerian Airways was invited to the Dodan Barracks and detained without trial.
The people of this country have been living in a state of fear.

The Armed Forces promotion exercise is still fresh in your minds.

Whatever reasons they have for the promotion one can only say that they are ambitious.
They in fact took over power to enrich themselves.
We are convinced that some of the programmes announced for a return to civilian rule are made to favor a particular group.
To mention only one. Maitama Sule is a politician. But has been appointed Chief of Commissioners for Complaints.

This is to prepare him for the next political Head at all cost.
How many of you know that Maitama Sule is on a salary of N17,000 p.a.?
In view of what I have just said and a lot more which time will not permit me to mention, we the Young Revolutionaries have once again taken over the Government to save Murtala from total disgrace and prevent him from committing further blunders and totally collapsing the country before he runs away in the name of retirement to enjoy the huge fortune he got through bribe which he has now stored outside this country.
I believe that charity should begin at home.

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, has arrested the Founder and General Overseer of Seraphic and Sabbath Assembly in Lagos, High Priest Nnodu Azuka Kenrick.

Also arrested was a student of Emmanuel College of Theology in Ibadan, Udezuka Udoka, and Freight Agent, Oyoyo Mary Obasi, the agency’s spokesperson Femi Babafemi announced on Sunday.

The suspects attempted to export methamphetamine and skunk concealed in kegs through the NAHCO export shed of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, MMIA, in Lagos to Dubai.

Nnodu was arrested on February 11 at his Church located at No 1, Sabbath Close in Ijesha, Lagos, following the arrest of Obasi and Udoka.

The NDLEA seized 283 parcels of skunk weighing 14.90 kilograms and 204 grams of meth concealed in four 25-litre kegs of palm oil destined for the United Arab Emirates, UAE.

Obasi mentioned the GO of her new church and his son, Chisom Obi, who is now at large, as the persons that gave her the
consignments.

She disclosed being compelled to take an oath of secrecy as well as a sacrifice of chicken in the church while Priest Nnodu prayed for the success of the transaction.

Obasi said the Clergyman and his son used threats to compel her to take the job after they knew she had known their secrets.

The suspect revealed Nnodu was always referring to the illicit drugs as Ice and Bible, (street names for meth and cannabis) in their phone chats.

In his confession, Udezuka revealed he was paid N2 million for his role and had to do it because he needed the money for his education.

Another attempt to send a consignment of skunk and tramadol 225mg to the UAE by a Dubai-returnee, Nnamani Monday Innocent, was busted on February 7.

Innocent was arrested at Trade Fair complex in the Ojo area, where he had gone in company of his friend Nwanana Emmanuel Ikechukwu to process the consignment for export.

NDLEA operatives attached to the SAHCO export shed of the Lagos airport also intercepted a cargo going to London, United Kingdom.

Food items packed in a carton were used to conceal 1.10 kilograms of meth. The freight agent, Agholor Emmanuel, who presented the cargo for export is in custody.

THE National Drugs Law and Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) bursted drugs neatly packaged into 25 Litre kegs under the guise of exporting red oil Dubai.

SOJ WORLDWIDE Correspondents went on an on-the-spot situation reports on commercial banks operating in Osogbo metropolis and Ile-Ife on whether the banks are attending to customers either at their ATM Service Points or at their various banking halls.

This is our findings along Gbongan Road, Osogbo, the state capital of Osun State where many different banks are sited.

The five ATM Service Points in Guarantee Trust Bank (GTB) are not dispensing either the old or the new Naira notes as at the time we visited.  However, there was skeletal service to some customers but our investigation revealed that there was no money paid to the customers as they have exhausted their limited cash in the vault.

Access Bank ATM did not dispense cash in all of the five Service Points while the branch was closed to customers as at 11.00am we visited.

FCMB was not faring better as the branch and the four ATM points was closed to customers except those who wanted to do transfer using their cards.

Lotus Bank with two ATM points was not paying and the bank not attending to customers.

The only bank along Gbongan Road paying as at the time of filing this report was Fidelity Bank with two ATM Points and also attending to customers.

There are three categories of long queues being attended to; two different lines at the ATM, one for the customers of the bank while the other line was meant for other bank customers, the third queue was for those entering the banking Hall.

Some of the people interviewed said some slept overnight while the woman who came about 5.00am said she was able to get 'Tally Number' number 250.

As at the time of our visit the last number given out was 410 for other banks while Fidelity had 425 on the queue at the ATM points and 250 for the bank customers who entered into the banking Hall.  Bank customers were given chairs under the canopies to wait for their turns to enter the Banking Hall. 

The bank have been consistent in their cash management to satisfy both the internal and external customers with the new Naira notes according to the views of those interviewed inside the banking Hall and at the ATM points.

Unity Bank attended to their customers at ATM point for just an hour while the bank closed to customers.  Sterling and UBA banks are equally not attending to customers except those who wanted to open accounts or transfers funds.

One of the UBA customers interviewed said he was told there was no cash but was promised that he should come back later if they succeed in getting cash from the CBN today.

At Ile-Ife, other banks except Fidelity Bank that is opened to customers, however there was no guarantee that their cash would last for the day. A reliable source said they can only afford to pay N2,000 likewise Osogbo branch who were able to ration their N50s and N20 denominations to pay N3,000 cash for each customers in the Banking Hall.

The scarcity of cash was different from the false information from the CBN that there was enough new Naira notes to go round. 

None of the various banks visited had neither the old or new Naira notes to service their customers. 

All of these customers have deposited their old cash but could not withdraw any amount to take care of their running expenses including feeding of their family.

Nigerians are at crossroads over the pronouncement of the Supreme Court judgement that customers should continue to receive old and new Naira notes. 

Nigerians want to know if they can continue to receive the old Naira notes but there was no one to direct them on what to do.

Nigerians are in an unending suspense not knowing what to do with the cash swap, meanwhile, hunger is biting hard under the scotching sun.

THE Osun State Police Command on Tuesday, February 7, 2023 paraded a female robbery suspect identified as Akintunde Eniola Sukurat along with two others for robbing Federal Polytechnic, Ede of their 30 assorted phones.

Two others are identified as Azeez Mustapha (26) and Ahmed Yusuf (25) who lodge in hotel booked by Sukurat.

Miss Sukurat said she was in Lagos where she sells bean cake before she relocated to Ede, her home town to commit crime.

"My boyfriend and his friends came from Lagos to rob in Ede, I took them to the students hostel where they rob occupants of their phones."
Her boyfriend identified as Odunayo has absconded.

Two other accomplices said the robbery at Ede was their first time, that what they do in Lagos was phone snatching at Mushin and Oshodi in Lagos.

FACTS OF THE CASE:
"On 27/01/2023 at about 12:15noon, upon information that strange faces were sighted in Ede town, police immediately put investigative mechanism in place and arrested the above suspects who came from Lagos State on 28/1/2023, lodged in a hotel with the aid of one of their girl friends who based in Ede, spied their unsuspecting victims and robbed three student hostels of Federal Polytechnic, Ede and dispossessed them of thirty (30) different brands cell phones worth millions naira belonging to one Abass Muda Abiodun ‘m’ and nineteen (19) others.
The suspect will be charged to court after the completion of investigation."

AN elderly woman identified simply as Iyaloja in a viral video on Social Media rained curses on the Central Bank Governor, Godwin Emefiele over hardships experienced and amount charged on her withdrawal from POS.

The woman was pained because she was charged N2,000 on N20,000 she withdrew from POS when it was impossible for her to withdraw from the ATM and bank's counter.

To worsen the matter, the charge was on the old Naira  instead of the new Naira notes.

"Emefiele, you will not have rest of mind. I sent my daughter to withdraw cash, she was charged N2,000 on old Naira of N20,000.  She was told that she will pay extra charges for new Naira notes."

ISAAC Fayose who is the younger brother to former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose has alleged that Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State is working for the All Progressives Congress, APC, presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu.

Wike has been at loggerheads with the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, after losing the party’s presidential ticket to Atiku Abubakar.

The face-off with Atiku led to Wike’s call for the removal of the PDP’s National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu.

Wike and the G-5 governors said the party can’t have the North produce the party’s national chairman and presidential candidate.

They stressed that a southerner should be allowed to produce the party’s national chairman for the sake of balance and equity.

However, Fayose, in a Facebook post wrote: “It’s almost election day. Labour Party (LP) and support groups for Peter Obi need to consolidate in SS, MD (Especially Plateau, Benue), Ondo, Lagos, Kaduna, Taraba. These are the strong regions to get high numbers.

“The SE needs to show its hands massively.
“For SS: Wike is working for BAT, there is a heavy propaganda going on in Akwa Ibom, Okowa is ready for war in Delta, Bayelsa needs a structure to convert, Edo is certain.

TROUBLE looms as one of the popular commercial banks in Nigeria, Zenith Bank on Tuesday shut some of its branches in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and other states across the country due to alleged attacks on its staff over new Naira scarcity, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.

NAN, which monitored developments across the FCT and environs on Tuesday, reports that the bank’s branches were under lock and key.

At Zenith Bank Check-Point branch, along Nyanya Mararaba road, the entry gates into the banking halls and the ATM Gallery were locked against customers.

An official of the bank who preferred anonymity said that some of the bank’s branches were also shut down due to poor network and scarcity of the new naira notes.

The official said that many of their branches across the country were attacked by customers who were unable to withdraw the new notes from their accounts.

NAN reports that some video clips on social media showed how staff of the bank jumped through fences to escape mob attacks from customers.

Complaints
Meanwhile, some customers of the bank Tuesday took to social media to lament their ordeal. A customer identified as @Ellacious_berry said on Twitter, that Zenith Bank was fully contributing to the suffering of the masses.

“Three days now, I cannot assess the mobile app. If the mobile app mistakenly opens, it won’t transfer, their ATM card is not paying either. I am sure closing my account with @ZenithBank,’’ she said.

Another customer, identified as @ambi 255 on Twitter, lamented the poor network and operational challenges being faced by customers of the bank in recent days.

“I think I will be closing my account with them,’’ he said.

Another customer identified as @IamSixFeet Tall on Twitter said: “one of the managers in my office just closed his zenith account this morning. My other two colleagues are planning to move all their money from Zenith account.”

Another customer known as Linda Chinemerem Paul on her Facebook page said, “those of you banking with Fidelity Bank, please, how is your experience with them. I want to migrate and dump Zenith.”

NAN reports that some branches of the bank in Enugu were working but the staff were not dressed in any of the bank’s outfit to avoid easy identification by angry customers.

Meanwhile, the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN) has called for calm and understanding among bank customers.

A statement by Akin Morakinyo, the Registrar/Chief Executive, CIBN, said the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and operators (the banks) were working assiduously to bring the situation under control.

He called on bankers to carry on their duties with utmost professionalism and diligence.

QUESTION:   You’ve been contesting for this seat (president). Why do you want to be the president of Nigeria?
ATIKU: My ambition is to ensure I use the experience I have in public service and politics to help in the development of this country. But most importantly, what has been disturbing me, just as I use to tell my children, I have a lot of children and I have given them the education they deserve, both religious and conventional. Most of my children have been to some other countries but I also ensure that they all return to Nigeria to live here. So, I use to think what sort of a country will my children find themselves in the future? When I think of the situation and the future generations, it motivates me to keep contesting to see if God will give me the chance to be the president.

QUESTION:  So when you become president, what do you hope to do different from what was done, for instance, during the PDP years?

ATIKU: I will focus on five major issues. First, insecurity that is bedeviling every part of the country. I will unite the country by running a just and fair government. There is also the issue of the economy and education. The last one is looking at how some responsibilities and functions can be handed over to states and local government councils in the country because when you look at it, the Federal Government has taken over government dealings. So, these five things are what I will prioritize if elected the president of the country.

QUESTION:   But how do you think you can use these priorities to solve the problems of the country, because every candidate will say he would do these things you’ve mentioned? What style would you use in ensuring these priorities work differently?

ATIKU:   Well, the difference is that I have done it before and people have witnessed what I have done. Did the others (presidential candidates) do anything like me? Can they say they have done something like me?

QUESTION:  Let’s take the issue of insecurity in the North-West for instance. How do you intend to tackle it?
ATIKU:  I will first increase the number of security agents, increase their weapons and other equipment, increase their salaries. These are things I intend to do immediately I become president.
There is also a decision I am thinking of taking which is to look at the possibility of allowing states to have their own security agencies. We will however monitor the activities of the states to make sure they didn’t use the state security agents to intimidate the opposition.

QUESTION:  What you intend to do require funding and it is obvious there is no money in the country. Even the country’s foreign reserve is dwindling and the debt profile of the country is also huge, reading around N16 trillion. Where do you intend to get the money to do these things you have mentioned?

ATIKU:.  Something good about the debt is that you can sit and discuss with those you are owing to reach agreement on the mode of payment. You can seek for an extension period to pay when your economy bounces back……
Secondly, the moment we tackle the issue of insecurity, we will turn to inviting foreign businesses to come and invest in the country which can boost our economy and reduce the poverty level.

QUESTIONcuts in): You are talking of foreign businesses when the naira is always falling down while dollar keeps rising….

ATIKU:.  (Cuts in) This depends on the efforts made by the government at a particular time. For instance, this government did something we believe is wrong. The naira has three to four rates but we believe this is wrong. They should let the market decide the rate of the naira and not the government to decide that.

QUESTION:   On education, the UNICEF said about 20 million children in the country are out of school with majority of them in the northern part of the country. How do you intend to tackle this issue?

ATIKU:   They are 12 million of such children in the North. To be honest with you, the states and local governments don’t use the money we send to them from the Federal Government for the education sector. So, what I will do is to ensure that states and local governments that collect money from the federal government use it to provide education.

QUESTION:   There is the incessant strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU). This disagreement between ASUU and the Federal Government, how would you tackle it?

ATIKU:.  I will sit with them because I didn’t see any problem with doing that. I have been running a university for over 20 years now and not for once did our staff go on strike. Why do you think so,? I believe it’s because we pay them their salaries and allowances as at when due.

QUESTION: But your university is a private one that’s expensive and it’s only for the children of the privileged….

ATIKU:   Even at that…. Even the public universities, there was a Federal Scholarship Board but I don’t think it’s there now. So, I will revive that board to provide loans for students that can’t sponsor their education.

QUESTION:    Let’s talk about health. There is lack of medical doctors and it’s said that every one medical doctor takes care of 2,000 persons. Some of them are leaving the country in huge number. If you are elected, what would you do to solve the problem of medical doctors leaving the country to practice in other countries?

ATIKU:.  If you could recall, some years back before we started this dispensation in 1999, we had these sort of problems when our medical doctors were leaving the country for Saudi Arabia and others. But when PDP came, we rehabilitated hospitals, built several others and increased their salaries, they all returned. If the government is serious, it will do things right.

QUESTION:   So you mean you can bring them back if you are elected?

ATIKU:   By God’s grace. First, ensure there is a conducive environment for them to practice. Hospitals should be well equiped and their salaries standardized.

QUESTION:    But you the wealthy people go overseas to seek for medical attention…

ATIKU:   What do you mean by wealthy people?

QUESTION:   The rich people and those in position of authority. Some go outside the country to treat headache…
ATIKU:   No. I am not one of them. Yes, I go overseas but not to treat headache (laughs). May be once after six months or a year I go out for medical check up or when I fall down I got wounded on my leg. Yes, I went overseas then and I was treated and I returned.

QUESTION: Let’s talk about politics now. There is the issue of G-5 Governors in your party. Don’t you think you have a problem being that those governors are from the subregion where PDP is considered to be strong?

ATIKU:    Well, every party has its own peculiar issues. We are discussing with them and most of them are neither here nor there. This will not affect our chances because we believe with the way they (INEC) are planning to conduct the elections now, because it is not like in the days that a governor would be the one to decide who win or not. The Act has changed that and now election is decided by the electorate.

QUESTION:   The candidates of LP and NNPP are seen as capable of hindering your success. Many believe it would have been better if you were together with them.
ATIKU: Even if everyone in this country promises to elect you, you’ll not be at peace until when you are elected.

QUESTION:   But these ones, Peter Obi and Kwankwaso, do they scare you.

ATIKU: No. No. I’m not afraid of them. They don’t make me jittery.

QUESTION:  Is there any possibility of any of them joining you before the election?
ATIKU: Why not? It’ is very possible because this is all politics.

QUESTION: Are you reaching out to them now or you are just feeling the possibility of them..

ATIKU: We are discussing with them.

QUESTION: Who do you think among the two will easily join you?

ATIKU: Any of them can join us.

QUESTION: Tinubu is your friend. You people started together and you had one political godfather, Shehu Yar’Adua. But you’re now locking horns. Some may believe he (Tinubu) knows your political strategies, don’t you think it will affect your chances?

ATIKU: What motivates me is that the APC administration has failed to deliver and everyone knows that. People need change.

ATIKU: It is all allegations. Let them bring evidence if they have it.

QUESTION: Would you declare your assets?
ATIKU:How? ….. I write down my assets in asset declaration. If they say I should give it to journalists for scrutiny I can give it to you people.

QUESTION: But you on your own, you will not give it to us to explain how much you have, may be your number of cars and houses?

ATIKU: It is just a document. If you want to see it you can go to the officials in charge if they can give you.

QUESTION: The current administration shut down land borders. Taking into consideration that you are a retired Customs officer, what action would you take?

ATIKU:   Nigeria is the leader of ECOWAS and the first rule of ECOWAS said there should be free trade between the West African countries. No country should shut down such trade without discussion on the reasons for the action. This government when it came, it didn’t discuss with any country. They just went ahead to shut down the borders.
One of the things I promised to do is to reopen all land borders in the country because we have Customs officers and other security agents on these borders. So anything that is contraband or require payment, they will take care of that. But we will open land borders and allow people to continue running their business.

QUESTION: But the federal government said it did this to support local farmers and to stop contraband from entering the country?

ATIKU: Then why do we have border officials?

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has revealed the hidden secrets behind Naira redesign by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

Wike insisted the policy was being implemented to provoke the civil populace into embarking on civil unrests that could be used as excuse to postpone the forthcoming election.

The governor pointed out that there is already a cabal behind the policy implementation and they are pushing to install an interim government which will prevent Nigerians from using the permanent voters cards to determine their next leaders.

“The primary target of this policy is to provoke Nigerians to embark on civil disturbance which they will capitalise on to say they cannot conduct election and push for enthronement of an interim government.,” he said.

Wike also urged Nigerians not to vote for any candidate supporting the manner in which the currency redesign policy is being implemented in the forthcoming election.

The governor explained that such candidate is an enemy of Nigerians, who are already plunged into inexplicable economic hardship with non-availability of both the old and new Naira notes to enable them buy food for their households and fuel for their cars.

Wike said he is convinced that President Muhammadu Buhari, who may not have been properly briefed on the hardship the Naira swap is causing Nigerians, is already getting feedback on the ill-advised policy and would review the implementation.

“Anybody who claims he loves Nigeria and is contesting election but is supporting this CBN policy. Will you people vote for such person? It is only the enemies of Nigeria that are supporting this anti-people policy. I believe President Muhammadu Buhari was not properly briefed about this policy.”

THE Director-General of the Labour Party Presidential Campaign Council, Akin Osuntokun has reacted to Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai's verbal attacks on the Presidential Candidate of his party, Peter Obi.

This is as Mr Osuntokun accused the former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, of being notorious and having the disposition to start a war.

Mr Osuntokun, in a statement made available to newsmen was responding to Mr El-Rufai’s comment on the Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr Obi.

During an interview with Television Continental (TVC), Mr El-Rufai described Mr Obi as a Nollywood actor who stands no chance of winning the presidential election.

Mr El-Rufai also claimed that Mr Obi is a tribal and religious bigot.

In his response, Mr Osuntokun argued that if Mr El-Rufai agreed that the Labour Party would sweep the South-south and the South-east, and have the votes in the Christian part of the North, then Mr Obi should be addressed as a political heavyweight because not even the first republic politicians like the late Ahmadu Bello, Obafemi Awolowo and Nnamdi Azikiwe enjoyed such political dominance.

“It is ironical that a man who tags the Labour Party (Obi) with the tar brush of “ethnicity and religious bigotry” is the leading light if not the evil genius behind the weaponisation of religious cleavage indicated in the Muslim/Muslim presidential ticket of his political party. This has been template he brought Kaduna State politics,” he said.

Mr Osuntokun said Mr El-Rufai has marginalised Southern Kaduna, a zone with a large population of Christians.

“Another feather to his cap of unrestrained notoriety and bellicosity is not limited to Nigeria. Knowing fully well that a free, fair and credible election (and as attested by foreign observer teams), was not in the interest of his party in the 2019 general elections, he issued a threat to the latter on the eve of the elections:
‘Those that are calling for anyone to come and intervene in Nigeria, we are waiting for the person that would come and intervene, they would go back in body bags’.

“El-Rufai enjoys the dubious distinction of duplicating the carnage and festival of bloodletting on Kaduna State what his principal has visited on the larger Nigeria community in the past seven years. This is a governor who should hourly beseech the mercy and forgiveness of God for the calamity he wreaked on a segment of Kaduna State populace. That such a mouthpiece of the disastrous stewardship of the APC should presume to pontificate and cast aspersions on someone with a vastly superior record of public service is the height of insolence and impunity. It is in recent memory that El Rufai was one of the star proxies of their presidential candidate who couldn’t speak for himself at the Chatham house-to the humiliation and disgrace of Nigeria before a bewildered international community,” he said.

Mr Osuntokun said Nigerians would trust “credible” polls conducted that placed Mr Obi ahead of other presidential candidates than take Mr El Rufai’s words.

Asking who should be tagged a Nollywood candidate, Mr Osuntokun took a jab at the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu.

“Who best personifies the Nollywood world of make belief? Where else but in movies would anyone speak in tongues of the blu blaba boo variety? Or remind us that contrary to street side common knowledge, Atiku Abubakar was indeed ‘Senate president’, not vice president?

“The good news of Obi’s emergence is that win or “lose”, he has fostered a seismic change in the political configuration and culture of Nigeria. It is the dawn in which El-Rufai and the retrogressive forces he represents are going to be on permanent disorderly retreat. God does not start a project he cannot finish,” he said.

THE son of the customer who went naked in the bank because the Bank refused to pay him N5,000 ambushed Bank Manager of the bank on her way home.

The incident happened in one of the first generation banks in the Southeast of Nigeria.

This was one of the multiplying effect of the pains Nigerians go through over inability of customers to withdraw their hard earned cash from the banks.

The unidentified woman was ambushed by the children and got the tyre of her car removed and properties in the car looted.

ENRAGED students of the University of Benin (UNIBEN) vent their anger and frustrations on Army Officer within their Campus in the course of the week after the soldiers assaulted them and destroyed some cars.

According to an eyewitness, trouble started when the Officer used his power to harass students who had been on the queue to withdraw cash from the ATM.

THE Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar has said he is in alliance talks with the Labour Party and New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) Presidential candidates, Peter Obi and Senator Rabiu Kwakwanso respectively.

In an interview with BBC Hausa service, Atiku said he is also holding talks with the Labour Party (LP) Presidential Candidate, Peter Obi.

He said the duo of Obi and Kwankwaso are not in anyway a threat to his chances in the election.

“I see no threat because we are not together with them (Kwankwaso and Obi). We are in talk with them, one of them may possibly come,” he said.

On the lingering PDP Crisis, Atiku said, “Each party has its internal crisis, we are still talking with them. Most are neither in PDP nor in other parties and definitely that will not make us loose the election because we okay with the elections preparations for now.

“Elections now is not like in the past when a governor will dictate who to vote for, elections today is in the hands of the voters.”

The presidential candidate also promised to open all Nigeria’s borders if elected president.

THE All Progressives Congress (APC) offices in Ede were attacked yesterday.by protesters who were allegedly protesting against last Friday’s verdict of the Osun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal that declared former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola winner.

The protesters allegedly descended on the APC Secretariat in Ede South and Ede North in the state.

But the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) distanced its supporters from the arson.

President Muhammadu Buhari has said in an interview with the PREMIUM TIMES that there is no going back on January 31, 2023 deadline for the deposit of old Naira notes in banks.

The President noted that three months is enough for anyone to deposit his cash in banks.

Buhari reiterated his promise that Nigerians should vote for the candidates of their choices without cash inducement. 


The President did not talk about the insufficient of redesign Naira notes in banks and in circulation and the refusal of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to release enough cash for the commercial banks.

His Ordeal:
According to the victim, his work is to erect water pipes on high rise buildings. He said he climbed the building to errect the pipes on that fateful day, not knowing there was a live wire he mistakenly torched.

The power flung him where his body was hung, his clothes was on fire before he landed on the floor from the top of a storey building. He was rushed to a hospital in Ajah where he was later referred to LUTH, Idi-Araba, Mushin, Lagos since September 2, 2022 till date.

The wounded parts of his body was an eyesore.  SOJ WORLDWIDE would have published the graphic photos of the wounded hands and legs but Google would likely sanction us if we do.

We have shared this same story on Facebook and Whatsapp three weeks ago,  what was realised from good Samaritans was about N28,000 out of over N1 million needed for him to be discharged.

This was contained in a Press Release to customers of Fidelity Bank Plc sent via the customers email on Thursday morning, January 26, 2023.

"DOWNWARD REVIEW OF DAILY WITHDRAWAL LIMIT ON ATM"
"Dear Customer,
Please be informed that the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has revised its daily cash withdrawal limit on ATM from N100,000 to N20,000 effective 23rd of January 2023".

"This means that you will only be able to withdraw a cumulative daily amount of N20,000 from your account across all ATMs irrespective of the banks."

It will be recalled that the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu alerted Nigerians that the policy on the New Naira Design and fuel scarcity was to scuttle the 2023 general elections.

THE Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III has debunked the endorsement of the Presidential candidate of Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi credited to him since Thursday.

Attempt to drag the name of the Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, into partisan politics and disparage him, purportedly by the campaigners of the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has been denounced.

Prince Bashir Adefaka, in a statement he issued on behalf of the Media Team of Sultan of Sokoto, called on Nigerians to ignore what he called the irresponsible and fake report suggesting that monarch has endorsed Peter Obi.

He said such statement would not have emanated from the revered Sultan of Sokoto Caliphate.

Recall that the social media on Thursday was awash with reports purportedly indicating that the Sultan of Sokoto had endorsed the LP presidential candidate, Peter Obi, vouching that Nigerians should hold him (Sultan) responsible if the Labour Party candidate failed to perform.

“Hold me responsible if Peter Obi didn’t perform well, the problem of the North is from the north, not Peter Obi or an Igbo man, it will be worst and more deadly for the North if Tinubu wins, if they tell you an Igbo man is the problem of Nigeria, tell them Igbo man never rule Nigeria before and north is world poverty capital,” the social media post had claimed.

The attention of Media Team of Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has been drawn to a statement circulating on social media titled, “BREAKING: SULTAN OF SOKOTO WRITES” with an opening credited to Sultan purportedly saying, “Hold me responsible if Peter Obi didn’t perform well, the problem of the North is from the north, not Peter Obi or an Igbo man, it will be worst and more deadly for the North if Tinubu wins, if they tell you an Igbo man is the problem of Nigeria, tell them Igbo man never rule Nigeria before and north is world poverty capital”.

Ordinarily the statement should not be dignified with a pinch of reaction but because of the need to put the record straight for the sake of truth-seeking Nigerians. Recall that this is not the first time such misleading statement would be circulated in an effort to climb on the influential personality and name of the Sultan to score political goals.

Unfortunately, for these pitiable political campaigners, Sultan of Sokoto is – strictly speaking – a traditional ruler and leader of Muslims of Africa’s most populous country. Moreso, as a retired Army General, his discipline, commitment and unalloyed loyalty to Nigeria is non-negotiable.

For the avoidance of doubt, the statement is fake because such an irresponsible write-up, credited to him, could not have emanated from anywhere near or around His Eminence Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, the Sultan of Sokoto and President General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, NSCIA.

Between Wednesday and Thursday, the Sultan played host to several figures, including the outgoing and new General Officers Commanding, GOCs, 8th Division Nigerian Army, Sokoto, Major Generals O. Bassey and Godwin Mutkut, respectively; Vice Presidential Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Kashim Shettima, among others.

It would interest Nigerians to know that the Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party, Dr. Peter Obi was not one of those that paid visit to the palace either on Wednesday or Thursday.

So, how some agents of discord whose stock-in-trade is to thrive on cooking falsehoods and peddling of fake news think that they can get through with this remains unknown to common sense.

The simple challenge is to ask them to publish a copy of the letter purportedly written by the Sultan or a video or audio clip where the Sultan endorsed Peter Obi and denied APC Presidential Candidate Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as contained in their peddled fake news. If they cannot, and of a surety they cannot, they should desist from this indefensible claim and unpardonable lie using the good name of His Eminence because it will backfire.

It should, however, be made clear to the good people of Nigeria that this, like many others in the past by the Peter Obi campaigners, would not stop the Sultan from continuing to play his role as a multifaceted leader and father of all and so, his doors will remain open to all aspirants across all parties and other meaningful people from across the country.

More important to Sultan Sa’ad Abubakar at this time and always are security, peace and unity of Nigeria, especially as the nation is fast moving into its long planned and heavily invested general elections. He will continue to support all efforts that will lead to success of the election process. So, let any incoherent claims of naysayers be ignored. Sultan is not a politician.

THE Labour Party (LP) on Friday, January 20, 2023 suffered a setback when the Governorship candidate of the party in Jigawa State, Comrade Abdullahi Tsoho decamped witb his teeming supporters into the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

This was disclosed by Habibu Nuhu Kila, the Special Adviser to Governor Muhammad Badaru of Jigawa State, in a terse statement made available to Channels Television on Friday.

According to the statement, Comrade Abdullahi said he has come to realize that APC has all the qualities for championing the yearnings and aspirations of the electorate.

It added that the former Labour Party gubernatorial candidate promised that he and his teeming supporters will ensure the victory of APC in all elections.

While receiving Comrade Abdullahi in his office, Governor Badaru expressed his appreciation and promised that he and his supporters will be accorded every rights enjoyed by the old members of the party.

Labour Party has not yet commented on this development as of the time of filing this report. The leadership of the party with its presidential candidate and Vice Presidential candidate were in Jos, Plateau State capital for it’s presidential campaign today.

THERE is an uproar within the rank and file of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as it suspended Chimaroke Nnamani, Senator representing Enugu West Senatorial District and seven other party chieftains in Ekiti State on Friday, January 20, 2023.

Debo Ologunagba, PDP Publicity Spokesperson, announced the development in a statement issued on Friday night.

He said Nnamani and seven others have been suspended over “anti-party activities”.

Ologunagba said the decision was taken after an “extensive review” of the party’s activities in the country in line with the PDP constitution.

He listed the seven other suspended members as Ayeni Funso (Ekiti north), Ajijola Lateef Oladimeji (Ekiti central), Emiola Adenike Jennifer (Ekiti south II), Ajayi Babatunde Samuel (Ekiti north II), Olayinka James Olalere (Ekiti central), Akerele Oluyinka (Ekiti north I), and Fayose Oluwajomiloju John (Ekiti central I)

The PDP scribe said their suspension is with immediate effect.

“The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has after a very extensive review and consideration of the affairs of our Party in the country, pursuant to the provisions of the PDP Constitution (as amended in 2017) approved the suspension of Senator Chimaroke Nnamani (Enugu State) and Chief Chris Ogbu (Imo State) with effect from today, Friday, January 20, 2023, over allegations of anti-party activities,” the statement reads.

“The PDP urges all leaders, critical stakeholders and teeming members of our Party across the country to remain united and focused on the mission of our Party to Rescue, Rebuild and Redirect our nation from misrule.”

Despite being a member of the PDP, Nnamani has publicly expressed his support for Bola Tinubu, presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In December 2022, the former governor of Enugu, said he is supporting Tinubu in the interest of the South-East.

“I’m not looking for ministerial position because I have outgrown that. We are doing this in the overall interest of our people,” he said.

“Ndigbo are using our support for Tinubu and APC in 2023 to build bridges across the country.

“Don’t join issues with people who are resorting to insults. Just concentrate on the goal because this is a very serious business.”

In a recent interview, the PDP Spokesperson said the party will “respond” to those who are members of the party but do not support the presidential bid of Atiku Abubakar, the PDP standard-bearer.

Apart from Nnamani, the PDP G5 — a group of five governors — Nyesom Wike of Rivers, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu, Samuel Ortom of Benue, Seyi Makinde of Oyo, and Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia — have not declared support for Abubakar.

The governors are demanding the resignation of Iyorchia Ayu as the party’s national chairman.

Their demand for Ayu’s resignation is on the grounds that the PDP National Chairmsn and the party’s presidential candidate should not be from the same region.

THE major political parties, the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are at war firing missiles from different directions against each others Presidential candidates over the forthcoming February 25, 2023 presidential elections.

Aide of the former Vice President, Michael Achimugu released a damning corruption allegations against Atiku and why he is not fit to become the President of Nigeria. His allegations against the PDP sparked reactions from the ruling party, APC calling for his arrest and disqualification from the presidential election.

Achimugu released the conversations between him and Atiku to butress his corrupt allegations against the PDP Presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.

APC, Citing a video clip released by Achimugu, who was the former aide of the PDP standard bearer said Atiku as Vice President between 1999 and 2007, colluded with his then boss, President Olusegun Obasanjo, to operate an illegal account tagged, “Special Purpose Vehicles” SPVs.

Festus Keyamo (SAN) accused the PDP-led administration between 1999 and 2007 of running a criminal enterprise, describing the era as the “SPV Years.”

Reacting to the allegations, PDP described Tinubu as a convict, who should not be in the presidential race, adding that Tinubu’s alleged $460,000 drug money forfeiture was evidence of a crime.

Full story and the damning allegations against Atiku:
Minister of State, Labour and Employment; and Chief Spokesman of the APC Presidential Campaign Council PCC, Mr Festus Keyamo, SAN, had forwarded a petition to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC, the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission, ICPC and the Code of Conduct Bureau, CCB, seeking arrest and prosecution of Atiku.

In the petition filed as a “Concerned Nigerian”, Keyamo gave a 72-hour ultimatum to the anti-graft agencies to “arrest/invite, interrogate and prosecute one Alhaji Atiku Abubakar”, failing which he said he would approach the courts to compel the agencies to act.

Noting that Atiku does not enjoy immunity simply because he is a presidential candidate, the APC candidate asked the former Vice President to apologize and renounce his ambition.

He, however, said he would, in the coming days, approach the courts to seek Atiku’s disqualification from the presidential race.

According to him, Atiku is not God and does not enjoy immunity from criminal prosecution, and urged security agencies not to be reluctant in arresting him simply because he is vying for president.

He said former Plateau State governor, Joshua Dariye, was jailed for the offenses of paying state money into a company, Marine Float, linked to Atiku, insisting that the former vice-president must be arrested.

Tinubu spoke in Abuja at the PCC headquarters in Abuja yesterday through the full complement of his media directorate.

While the text of a prepared speech was read by Keyamo, he was flanked by the Special Adviser, Media, Communications and Public Affairs at the PCC, Mr. Dele Alake; Director, Media and Publicity, Mr. Bayo Onanuga; Director, Special Media Projects/New Media, Mr. Femi Fani-Kayode; and, Director, Strategic Communications, Alhaji Idris Mohammed.

The PCC queried the sources of wealth of both Obasanjo and Atiku, especially with regards to building their individual private universities.

On whether former President Obasanjo should equally be arrested, the PCC said the onus was on the security agencies to open investigations into the issue and arrest anyone found wanting, no matter how highly placed.

Atiku’s alleged four offences
While the council played a two-minute recorded voice call purported to be a conversation between Messrs Achimugu and Atiku, it listed four offences allegedly committed by the former vice president.

The alleged offences are a Breach of the Code of Conduct Act, Money Laundering, Criminal Breach of Trust and Conspiracy.

According to the PCC, Atiku may have gone against the provisions of Sections 5, 10, 13 & 17 of the Code of Conduct Bureau and Tribunal Act; Section 18 (2) of the Money Laundering (Prevention And Prohibition Act), 2022; Section 311 of the Penal Code Law and Section 96 (1) of the Penal Code Act In Nigeria.

The council noted that law enforcement agencies may be reluctant to act simply because of the perception of persecution of a presidential candidate that the action may evoke.

However, it said facts are sacred and that the facts so far presented to the world clearly indicate that Atiku Abubakar has a case to answer.

“In other climes when such serious allegations arose in the middle of campaigns, the law-enforcement agencies acted decisively. You may recall that, in 2016, in the middle of campaigns for the exalted office of the Presidency of the United States, the FBI opened investigations into allegations of misuse of private emails against Hillary Clinton when she was Secretary of State.

“In fact, the case was referred to the Justice Department for likely prosecution few weeks to the actual voting. Though she was later cleared, it bears restating that a sane and dispassionate system never allowed such side talks to dissuade or distract them from initiating a process of investigation. It is the minimum expected in a constitutional democracy. That is what we call on the authorities to do in the case of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.

Marine Float Account
“The issue of the Marine Float Account is not new to Nigerians. In the voice note, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar can be heard boasting that the issue of that account was thoroughly investigated by EFCC.

“However, we note that in 2006, at the height of his public quarrel with Obasanjo, the same PDP officially asked Atiku Abubakar to refund N500 million taken from that account.

“In the circumstance, since the nation now knows that the Marine Float Account and other similar accounts were ‘SPV’ accounts, it follows that all payments made into that account were monies stolen from public coffers. Therefore, we call on all security agencies to recover all monies withdrawn from that account by anyone for that matter.

“In the light of these very grave revelations, we call on Atiku Abubakar to immediately tender an unreserved apology to the Nigerian people and step down from the Presidential race forthwith, whilst handing himself over to the law enforcement agencies.

“Following these revelations, it becomes clear that Atiku Abubakar has absolutely nothing to campaign on again as the period of 1999-2007 that he always relies on can now be described by Nigerians as the ‘SPV years’ when they ran Nigeria aground.

“That whilst President Obasanjo and Atiku deprived the good people of Lagos State of their Local Government monthly allocations even after the Supreme Court ordered the release of the funds, they were busy using the SPV for other things.

“That the real, dark reason for the seemingly irreconcilable quarrel between President Obasanjo and Atiku Abubakar is disagreement over the ‘SPV’ accounts at that time.

“We call on all well-meaning Nigerians and the law-enforcement agencies to protect Mr Michael Achimugu, who has blown this whistle on Atiku Abubakar. No harm must befall him or members of his family.

“We shall hold Atiku Abubakar responsible if anything befalls this patriotic Nigerian or members of his family. We also encourage him to reveal to Nigerians those ‘earth-shaking’ revelations he is withholding for the sake of this nation and the future of our children.

“It is our firm belief that the judiciary is the last hope for the hopeless. In this case, the judiciary will not be quiet as we shall clearly take steps in the next few days to initiate a judicial process seeking the outright disqualification of Atiku Abubakar from the race based on these facts. He is clearly ethically challenged, morally damaged for the highest office of the land”, the council added.

PDP fights back:
Countering, the Atiku/Okowa Presidential Campaign has demanded the immediate arrest and questioning of Tinubu for his alleged formation of a uniformed gang of thugs code-named “Jagaban Army” for the sole purpose of committing an electoral heist.

The spokesman of the campaign, Kola Ologbondiyan, said this in a statement, in Abuja, on Monday.

Ologbondiyan described the formation of the uniformed squad by the All Progressives Congress (APC) code-named “Jagaban Army” as “a treasonable act and calls for the arrest and questioning of the APC Presidential Candidate, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”

He further said: “The Jagaban Army, which is apparently set up to disrupt the 2023 general elections and raid polling units for votes on behalf of APC Presidential candidate, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is a direct affront to the Nigeria Armed Forces and other security agencies as well as an assault on the sovereignty of our nation.

“It is reprehensible that Tinubu can create a rogue force just for the purposes of undermining the electoral and security arrangements of our nation.

‘’Our Campaign holds that this nefarious act of the APC Tinubu/Shettima Campaign lend credence to the position of the PDP and well-meaning Nigerians that Tinubu, as well as his rank and file, have set out to make our nation ungovernable and thereafter disrupt the 2023 Presidential election scheduled for February 25, 2023, using his army of ‘Jagabandits’.

“The notion of Jagaban Army is a ploy to bring hoodlums, thugs and gangsters together under the cover of the APC and turned them into an official militia that will be used to unleash mayhem on the day of the election.

“This reckless anti-democratic plot by the ‘Jagabandits’ must also be condemned by all lovers of democracy in Nigeria and across the world over.

“We call on the security agencies to save the lives of Nigerians and protect our electoral process by immediately going after this dangerous formation, arresting those behind this design and saving our nation from electoral violence.

“Our campaign counsels Tinubu to note that his Presidential ambition is not a do-or-die affair and that he should not set the nation ablaze just because Nigerians have rejected him and his party, the APC for their mass failures.”

Tinubu’s $460,000 drug money forfeiture evidence of a crime —PDP
In like manner, the PDP dismissed Tinubu’s calls and allegations against Atiku as “simulated allegations” and attempts to divert public attention from the issues affecting Nigerians.

National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Mr Debo Ologunagba, in a statement said: “It is indeed ironic that an embattled Tinubu, who is beleaguered by uncountable cases of fraudulent activities, including perjury, forgery, treasury looting, corruption and narcotic-related conviction can attempt to impugn on the unimpeachable integrity of the PDP Presidential Candidate.

“For clarity and for the interest of Nigerians, it is on record that Atiku Abubakar is one of the most investigated public officials in this country. It is also on record that in all the investigations undertaken over him and his affairs, Atiku Abubakar was never found culpable in any of the allegations.

“In contrast, however, the APC Presidential Candidate has a litany of confirmed legal impediments on very grave issues including those that border on international crime, namely; trafficking in narcotics and taking proceeds of narcotics.

“In the recent case revealed in the United States of America, it is on record that the APC Presidential Candidate forfeited the sum of $460,000 which was confirmed and found to be proceeds of trafficking in narcotics; an international crime for which Nigeria, being a signatory to International Convention on trafficking in narcotics is obliged to enforce.

“The effect of the conviction and forfeiture of the sum of $460,000 by Asiwaju Tinubu confirms that he is ineligible and not qualified to contest for the Office of the President of Nigeria as required by the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended).”

The PDP Spokesman who is a lawyer by training further said: “For clarity, Section 137 (1) (d) of the Constitution of Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended) provides that1) “A person shall not be qualified for election to the office of President if…

“(d)He is under a sentence of death imposed by any competent court of law or tribunal in Nigeria or a sentence of imprisonment or fine for any offence involving dishonesty or fraud (by whatever name called) or for any other offence, imposed on him by ANY COURT or tribunal or substituted by a competent authority for any other sentence imposed on him by such a court or tribunal”.

“Having been convicted, sentenced and fined for narcotic trafficking in a criminal suit filed pursuant to the United States Criminal Code, Asiwaju Tinubu cannot by virtue of Section 137 (1)(d) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended) seek office as President of Nigeria.

“The APC Presidential Candidate has not come out to deny the conviction and forfeiture or show evidence of any attempt by him to challenge or appeal the judgment, apparently believing that it will slide with time.

“Asiwaju Tinubu ought to know that time does not run against the State in a criminal matter!


“He should therefore withdraw from the Presidential race having been found ineligible and not qualified to run or to contest for the Office of the President of Nigeria under the provisions of the Nigerian Constitution.”
