When Nigerian literary giants are brought up in conversations and publications, it is usual for Chinua Achebe, Wole Soyinka, Ben Okri, Buchi Emecheta and even Chimamanda Adichie’s names to come up more often. One name that is often conspicuously missing in the all-time great list is D.O. Fagunwa. The man, Fagunwa Daniel Olorunfemi Fagunwa, a native of Oke-Igbo in Ondo State who was relatively unknown until his first book, Ogboju Ode Ninu Igbo Irunmole, first hit the shelves in 1938, was a special breed. He was born to the family of Joshua Akintunde Fagunwa and Rachel Osunyomi Fagunwa in 1903, and had his education at St. Luke’s School, Oke-Igbo, and St. Andrew’s College, Oyo. He would later become a teacher himself. Ogboju Ode Ninu Igbo Irunmole, which told the story of seven brave hunters in the deep forests occupied by evil spirits, immediately became a bestseller, gaining recognition across different continents. In the book, Fagunwa wrote as if he had deep conversations with the gods and evil spirits in the thick forests of Yorubaland, and led many to believe in the powers of the forces that can’t be seen with the naked eye. This was despite his strict Christian background (his mother and father held high positions in the church). In one of the chapters, he wrote about a demonic newborn child, Ajantala, who spoke on the day he was born and gave priests and guests that gathered at his christening the beating of their lives. Fagunwa’s second book, Igbo Olodumare published in 1949, was even more well received across the world. The book has been translated in over 40 languages. His vivid but unusual storytelling style quickly earned him a moniker as ‘Nigeria’s Shakespeare’. The books, which were the first to introduce Heinemann publishing company to the literary community in Nigeria, immediately became highly recommended in classrooms across all levels of western education, and were adapted for plays by numerous theatre groups. By the time Fagunwa published his three other critically acclaimed books – Ireke Onibudo (1949), Irinkerindo ninu Igbo Elegbeje (1954), and Adiitu Olodumare (1961), he had become a spirit in the minds of his hometown locals and a section of the people that read him across the world. Fagunwa’s mysterious death It was why many locals found it hard to believe that he died under natural circumstances when he drowned in a river on December 7, 1963. Surely, the gods and evil spirits must have had a hand in his death, they believed. Some even believed Fagunwa was swallowed by the snake with a human head he so gleefully wrote about in Igbo Olodumare. But he had drowned while waiting to take the ferry on his way home from an assignment in the Northern part of the country, where he had gone to advertise Heinemann books to schools and also search for great writers like him. His wife, Mrs Elizabeth Adebanke Fagunwa who died in 2018 at age 85, told Tribune in 2017, “James (Fagunwa’s driver) said the canoe turned upside down and covered him, he shouted for help and people came to rescue him but Fagunwa was nowhere to be found. While the people were still searching for Fagunwa in the river, a message was sent to Ibadan about the incident but I still had the belief that he would be brought home alive because he was a great swimmer but to my surprise, he never came home alive.” On the third day after his disappearance, Fagunwa’s lifeless body was found floating at the exact spot where he drowned. “What surprised us is that he had his shoes on, with his cloth intact as well as his cap and had his pair of glasses firmly in his hand. This was told by people who saw him at the river and people who saw his corpse when he was brought home,” Fagunwa’s widow, who was barely 31 at the time of his death but never remarried, said in the interview. Fagunwa was made a Member of the Order of the British Empire in 1959 and in 1965, two years after his death, was awarded the Margaret Wrong Prize. His tombstone remains at St. Luke’s Anglican Church cemetery, Oke Igbo, where he was buried on December 10, 1963. When conversations about the greatest Nigerian writers are had, it is only right that D.O Fagunwa’s name appears at the very top of the list. The recent Statement credited to former President Olusegun Obasanjo that he never wanted the Third Term in office as nothing but the height of revisionism. Babajide Kolade-Otitoju in his reaction to the Statement said He is ashamed on behalf of the former President over his failed Third Term Agenda. BABAJIDE IN A STATEMENT SAID: READ ALSO:https://www.sojworldnews.com/yahaya-bello-rejects-response-to-a-query-issued-to-hrh-ohinoyi-of-ebiraland-ado-ibrahim/ "Obasanjo saw himself bigger than the Nigerian nation because the Nigerian nation was not interested in third term. "You that you couldn't get members of your party to support you for second term. You had to go and prostate for a man much younger than you, you held his leg just to get a second term. Nigerian Journalist are the true hero's of the failure of third term" He advised the former President against trying to rewrite history or trying to give his own version of history describing it as unacceptable. He said the things that happened during the period are out in the open and he should stop his revisionism adding that he reported on some of these issues. He said the Statement the former President made was a confirmation of his contempt for the Nigerian people asking if the former President who could not even convince his party men to support his Second term ambition without prostrating for a man much younger than him. He spoke about the experience of Senior Editors with a former President of the Senate, Dr Ken Nnamani, when he met Editors in the period leading up to the third Term Agenda debate on the floor of the Senate. Paul Dada in his reaction to the Statement said he is sure the former President did not believe what he was saying asking how he could be saying something to the contrary despite evidence that shows it was all his handiwork. He describe his attitude as that of a man who is grandstanding adding that no Nigerian believes the Statement credited to Olusegun Obasanjo. He said he is surprised at the Statement wondering how someone who did so much damage all under the guise of Politics, removing governors with a handful of legislators against constitutional provision or using the so called State of emergency. He described the Presidency of Olusegun Obasanjo as one that was filled with illegalities and the man himself as a larger than life president who should not be out saying what he is saying. He described him as someone who should bury his head in shame for all the acts of dictatorship, illegalities and Constitutional breaches he committed while in office. For his part, Emeka Madunagwu, said he is disappointed with the Statement credited to the former President who he said should be at his age coming to terms with his misdeeds and his legacies at his age. He described him as a man with laudable ideas who however lost himself on the altar or lust for power. He said the throwing out of the Third Term Bill which was a minor part of the Constitutional review at the time was a great tragedy that Nigeria has not recovered from. He also listed the example of former Military President, General Ibrahim Babangida, who has failed to apologise for the catastrophic decision to annul the June 12 1993 Presidential Election as another example of those who have been in leadership positions failing to accept responsibility for their misdeeds and failures. Italian Paramilitary police say they have arrested convicted Mafia boss Matteo Messina Denaro in a private clinic in Palermo. Italy’s No. 1 fugitive, convicted Mafia boss Matteo Messina Denaro, was captured on Monday at a private clinic in Palermo, Sicily, after three decades on the run, Italian paramilitary police said. Messina Denaro was captured at the clinic where he was receiving treatment for an undisclosed medical condition, said Carabinieri Gen. Pasquale Angelosanto, who heads the police force’s special operations squad. A pair of Carabinieri officers, each holding an arm, walked him down the front steps of the upscale clinic and led him to a waiting black van on a gray morning. Messina Denaro was wearing a brown leather jacket trimmed in shearling and a matching white-and-brown skull cap and his trademark tinted glasses. His face looked wan and he looked straight ahead. He was taken to a secret location by police immediately after the arrest, Italian state television reported. A young man when he went into hiding, he is now 60. Messina Denaro, who had a power base in the port city of Trapani, in western Sicily, was considered Sicily’s Cosa Nostra top boss even while a fugitive. He was the last of three longtime fugitive top-level Mafia bosses who had for decades eluded capture, and hundreds of police officers over the years had been tasked with tracking him down. Messina Denaro, who was tried in absentia and convicted of dozens of murders, faces multiple life sentences. He is set to be imprisoned for two bombings in Sicily in 1992 that murdered top anti-Mafia prosecutors, Giovanni Falcone and Paolo Borsellino, Falcone's wife and several of their bodyguards. Among other grisly crimes he was convicted of is the murder of a Mafia turncoat's young son, who was abducted and strangled before his body was dissolved in a vat of acid. The arrest Monday came 30 years and a day after the Jan. 15, 1993, capture of convicted “boss of bosses” Salvatore “Toto” Riina, in a Palermo apartment after 23 years on the run. Messina Denaro went into hiding in summer of that same year, as the Italian state stiffened its crackdown on the Sicilian crime syndicate following the murders of Falcone and Borsellino. Italian Premier Giorgia Meloni tweeted that Messina Denaro's capture is a “great victory of the state, which shows that it doesn't surrender in the face of the Mafia.” Italy's Mafia boss who set the record for the longest time on the lam was Bernardo Provenzano, captured in a farmhouse near Corleone, Sicily, in 2006 after 38 years as a fugitive. Once Provenzano was in police hands, the hunt focused on Messina Denaro, but despite numerous reported sightings of the boss, he managed to elude arrest, until Monday. That all three top bosses were ultimately arrested in the heart of Sicily while they conducted decades of a clandestine life won't surprise Italy's police and prosecutors. Law enforcement have long said that such bosses rely on contacts and confidentiality of fellow mobsters and complicit family members to move the fugitives from hideout to hideout, supply basic needs, like food and clean clothing and communication, and a code of silence known as “omerta'.” Riina and Provenzano lived out the last years of their life in the strictest of Italian prison conditions reserved for unrepentant organized crime bosses and refused to cooperate with investigators. Messina Denaro was believed to have enjoyed a more comfortable lifestyle in his decades hiding from police, leaving some to speculate whether he might agree to cooperate with prosecutors in exchange for more lenient prison conditions. During his years on the run, he had a series of lovers and passed time by playing video games, according to Italian media reports. One of his girlfriends was arrested and convicted of having hidden him for a time while he was a fugitive. But while he had a weakness for women, Messina Denaro could be cruel, strangling a woman while she was pregnant, according to Italian media. Right after he went into hiding, Messina Denaro sent a letter to his then girlfriend, saying, "You'll hear talk about me, they will paint me like the devil, but it's all falsehoods,'' ANSA quoted the letter as saying. Wary of being tracked down by cellphone use, Mafia bosses frequently resort to handwritten notes known as “pizzini.” When Provenzano was nabbed in his rustic, almost primitive, hideaway in the countryside, police found a stash of such notes. With the crackdown that began in the 1990s against Sicily's Cosa Nostra, the island's mafiosi started losing their dominance in Italy compared to other organized crime syndicates. While the Sicilian Mafia was significantly weakened by a small army of turncoats, on the mainland, the ‘ndrangheta syndicate, based in the “toe” of the Italian peninsula, steadily eclipsed Cosa Nostra in reach and influence. Unlike Sicily's crime syndicates, the ‘ndrangheta draws its footsoldiers based on family ties, leaving it less vulnerable to turncoats. The ’ndrangheta is now one of the world's most powerful cocaine traffickers. But the Sicilian Mafia still runs drug trafficking operations. Other lucrative illicit businesses include infiltration of public works contracts and extortion of small business owners who are threatened if they don't regularly pay “protection money.” CLICK FOR MORE DETAILS: https://www.sojworldnews.com/italy-police-arrests-no-1-fugitive-mafia-boss-killer-after-30-years-of-escape/ https://www.sojworldnews.com/see-the-list-of-26-billionaires-who-died-in-2022/ https://www.sojworldnews.com/2023-obi-at-chatham-house-says-few-elites-group-are-holding-nigerians-captive/ 2023 GENERAL ELECTIONS Dont blame any party or anyone for misgovernance again if you refused to collect your PVC and vote. An ex-staff of Zenith Bank Plc identified as Chiamaka Agim has threatened to commit suicide if the money that disappeared in her Zenith Bank account on January 9, 2023 is not returned back immediately. Chiamaka said over N4 million disappeared in her account and that she has tried all she could to retrieve the said amount from her banker all to no avail. She narrated how it all happened to the Punch on Saturday, "It happened on January 9, 2023, at about 8.43pm. I got a debit alert, first to an Access Bank account. It was N3.7m, transferred from my account to the Access Bank account. I was confused because I knew I never authorised such transactions. I couldn’t have done such a transaction in the first place. That money is my life’s savings. Why will I transfer it to an unknown Access Bank account just like that? It does not add up. I want to state it clearly that I didn’t authorise that transaction. Before I would know what was happening, I got another alert of N222, 900 in a space of just one minute. I was trying to go into my mobile app to check what was happening when I saw the alert sent to the same Access Bank account where the first N3.7m was illegally transferred to. It was not even up to another minute, I got another debit alert of N102, 000 to a UBA account. Everything withdrawn was over N4m. What was left in my account was about N12, 900. I couldn’t even breathe well. I couldn’t think. In a space of five minutes, my entire life’s savings were wiped off. I don’t know who did this and I don’t know how it happened but I am begging Zenith Bank to refund my money. They told me write letters and I have written letters upon letters and submitted them to them. I went there since 8am on January 10. I don’t know who to run to. I don’t know how to start pursuing this case. I call on the President, Muhammadu Buhari, to come to my aid. I am going to die. This is frustrating. I won’t survive this. I don’t have any account anywhere at all. This is all I have saved all my life. How do I live knowing that I have to start all over again? Everything was wiped off! Zenith Bank is telling me to write a letter. How will they authorise a transaction of that magnitude without any notification? I cannot even begin to understand this wickedness! These people want me to die. I will commit suicide o! I don’t know what else to do. I am not a thief. I didn’t do anything fraudulent. Zenith Bank should just credit me. I have all the evidence of payment, stating the accounts this money was transferred to. They should just retrieve my money for me. The money was in their care." FORMER President Olusegun Obasanjo has opened up that he has done his best fot the country by endorsing the Labour Party Presidential candidate, Peter Obi. Obasanjo went further tbat he will not join the campaign train of the Labour Party Presidential candidate. The former President said these while speaking on Thursday at a virtual engagement organised by Africa Leadership Group. Obasanjo had in his New Year message to Nigerians, titled “My appeal to all Nigerians particularly young Nigerians,” thrown his weight behind Obi. The ex-president said he had no regret leading Nigeria. Obasanjo said, “I am not in campaign train. I’ve used benefit of my experience and I’ve put plainly. “I do not belong to any political party. I will not join any campaign train. I’ve said what is best for the country.” Speaking on what to look out for in the next president, Obasanjo said, “Nigeria is where we are because of leadership. “We must decisively look for men and women who have the character, attributes, skill and attitude that we need for leadership, that will deliver in this country.” The former president however refuted claims that he wanted a third term as President of the country. Obasanjo said he would have had it if he had wanted. Obasanjo said, “I never asked for a third term. If I wanted a third term, I would have got it. I am audacious enough to know how to get it.” Speaking on the Nigerian constitution, Obasanjo called for an amendment, noting that no constitution was perfect. He said, “Some people blame the constitution for everything in Nigeria. Of course, our constitution is not perfect, and there is no constitution that is sacrosanct and it can be amended.” He said part of what should be included in the amended constitution is the devolution of power. READ ALSO: BREAKING: CBN Announces Date To Introduce Redesigned Naira Notes The Central Bank of Nigeria has ordered all conmercial banks not to pay customers making over-the-counter withdrawals of new naira notes again. Instead, the apex bank directed the banks to load their Automated Teller Machines with only new notes to ensure that the currency circulates across the nation ahead of the January 31, 2023 deadline when the old notes will no longer be legal tender. Saturday PUNCH gathered that the apex bank issued the directive to the banks on Wednesday and ordered that the implementation must begin immediately. However, as of Friday, the banks had not been able to comply with the directive as they complained of inadequate supply of the new notes, prompting them to load their ATMs with the old notes. A source in a Tier-1 bank, who informed one of our correspondents of the CBN directive on Thursday, said her lender on Thursday issued a memo in that respect to all the branch managers to enforce the CBN order. READ ALSO: CASHLESS POLICY: CBN bows to public outcry, reviews cash withdrawal limit The memo, which was titled., ‘Urgent update on currency redesign’ and signed by the Group Head, Retail Operation, stated, “The CBN has mandated that we immediately stop the Over-the-Counter payment of the new N200, N500 & N,1000 currency. Instead, all new notes should be loaded into the ATMs for customer withdrawals. “This is effective immediately please.” The source, who is a manager in one of the bank’s branches in Ikeja, Lagos, however, complained that the new notes were in short supply, hence the branch decided to load a mixture of the old and new N1,000 and N500 notes in the ATMs for customers to withdraw. The source stated, “We got a memo from the head office this morning (Thursday) that we should stop dispensing new notes to customers who come to withdraw over the counter, but instead we should load the ATMs with the new notes. The correspondence from the head office said the directive was from the CBN and that we should implement ite immediately. “The directive has, however, thrown us into a dilemma as we are in short supply of the new notes and we can’t afford not to load the ATMs as there has been a surge in the number of customers coming to withdraw after the Yuletide holidays. “Loading of ATMs is the responsibility of the banks. When our bank tested the ATMs, only one denomination of the new notes passed the test of dispensing seamlessly through our machines. The bank is working on reconfiguring the ATMs to be able to dispense the new notes. What we have done in my branch is to mix the few new N1,000 and N500 notes available with old ones so that desperate customers can make withdrawals and meet their immediate needs. “If you observed, a lot of ATMs were inactive during the Christmas and New Year holidays. The idea was not to give out old notes, but unfortunately, the new ones are not in circulation. The banks have a mandate to evacuate N1bn old notes each to the CBN on a daily basis and our head office has set a strict vault limit or cash holding limit for each branch, which on no condition we must exceed.” When contacted, the CBN spokesman, Osita Nwanisobi, did not respond to enquiries by Saturday PUNCH. As soon as one of our correspondents introduced himself and the topic, he went mute. Subsequent calls to his mobile line were not taken. Text and WhatsApp messages sent to his telephone were not replied to. However, a senior official of the CBN, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorised to comment on the issue, confirmed to Saturday PUNCH that the apex bank indeed issued the directive to the banks. He explained, “From this weekend, new notes will be available for disbursement to bank customers. We are pushing the N1,000 and N500 notes through the ATMs for now. The N200 will be available later. “The aim is to check inflation and currency abuse. A research was conducted and it showed that the demand for the N1,000 and N500 is higher, hence the decision to start with them.” When asked when the agent banking representatives, who dispense cash to customers through Point of Sale terminals, would have the new notes, he said the objective of setting them up was not to handle large volume transactions, adding that the operators were abusing the guideline. A source in the corporate affairs department of a new generation bank told Saturday PUNCH, “Even before the CBN directive, our bank had been loading the ATMs with new notes. However, I must admit that the new notes are in short supply. What we do is to mix them up with old notes. For example, if you want to withdraw N10,000, you may get only two pieces of new N1,000. Some of our ATMs in the Oniru area of Victoria Island, Lagos, are dispensing only new notes. “The configuration of the ATMs is an ongoing thing; yes, all the ATMs have not been fully configured. There are gaps from the regulator, which is the CBN, but we will obey the directive within the limit of what we have. Customers are depositing old notes in huge volumes. The CBN has stopped the supply of the notes that will soon cease to be legal tenders to the banks. “I am sure that before January 31, the new notes would have spread to different parts of the country. Though I work in a bank, I have not seen the new N200; I have only seen N500 at a party in Abeokuta and it was being sold as your paper rightly reported a few weeks back.” When Saturday PUNCH conducted surveys across many bank branches and ATM galleries on Friday to find out if the CBN directive had been complied with, it was discovered that the majority of them were still dispensing to their customers old notes that would go out of circulation by month end. At the Ibafo, Ogun State branch of the UBA, it was observed that the ATMs were dispensing only old N1,000 and N500 notes to customers, who lined up in a queue at the gallery. When one of our correspondents asked the security guard on duty at the gallery when new notes would be loaded onto the ATMs, he said arrangements were being made for that and that the new notes should be available two hours from then. That was around 12.15pm. A subsequent visit to the bank’s ATM gallery around 2.30pm revealed that one of the machines had been loaded with the new N1,000 notes, but customers were limited to withdraw only N10,000. At the nearby Access Bank branch, only one ATM was working at the gallery as it only dispensed the old N1,000 notes. At the UBA Akute business office in Ogun State, one of our correspondents observed that the ATMs were dispensing new notes, but old notes were being paid to customers who made over-the-counter withdrawals. The First Bank ATMs in Mowe were dispensing old notes as of Friday afternoon and when one of our correspondents approached the cashier inside the banking hall for new notes, she was told that it was not possible as the branch only got small amounts of the new notes and was mixing it with old notes. Over the counter, customers were being given old notes, but the cashier said the new notes should be in circulation by the end of the month. When our correspondent returned to the ATM gallery, she withdrew N5,000 in old N500 notes. PoS operators in Magboro said that they did not have new notes to give to their customers, adding that in a bale of N100,000 they get from the bank, they get only N1,000 new notes. At the Ecobank branch inside the Mountain of Fire and Miracles’ Prayer City, Magboro, Ogun State, the ATMs were not dispensing new notes and customers were also being paid old notes over the counter. A teller said the branch did not have new notes to dispense to customers. The Access Bank and Wema Bank ATMs in Arepo were also dispensing old notes. At the GTbank, Mushin, Lagos, the ATMs were still dispensing old notes, while over-the-counter withdrawals were also in old notes. The same situation was recorded at the bank’s branch in Anthony Village. Branches of Access Bank and First Bank at Nyanya in Abuja were still dispensing old notes as of 2pm on Friday. At Access Bank, CMD Road, Magodo, Lagos, the old naira notes were being dispensed by the ATMs and inside the banking halls. The Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola has lamented that internal and external forces within and outside the All Progressives Congress (APC) are fruatrating his efforts to reconcile with the Presodential Candidate of the party, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Both men were close allies until their relationship soured over a dispute between Mr Aregbesola and his successor as governor of Osun State, Gboyega Oyetola. Angry that Mr Oyetola abandoned some of his legacy policies and also kept many of his loyalists out of government, Mr Aregbesola opposed the governor’s renomination by the APC for last year’s governorship election. READ ALSO: INSIDE LIFE: POLICE arrests son who kidnaps father, collects N2.5m ransom At a meeting ahead of the party’s primary, the Minister castigated Tinubu for refusing to withdraw his support for the then governor. The outcome of the election added to the rift as Aregbrsola and his supporters were believed to have connived in the defeat of Oyetola. The minister has also been accused of lukewarmness to the presidential bid of Tinubu. But, Aregbesola in a statement by his media adviser, Sola Fasure, on Wednesday said his rift with the APC flagbearer would have been resolved but for some people within and outside the APC, who are frustrating the reconciliatory moves. “A pattern has clearly emerged of sinister and coordinated effort to frustrate the reconciliatory moves being championed by notable stakeholders within and beyond our party to rally all necessary factors for the success of our Party at the February 2023 Presidential Election,” he said. Atiku-Okowa AD “Just last week, jittery politicians, who are authors of this malicious manuscript, paid a handful of rent-a-crowd comedians to react to a non-existent ‘attack’ and regurgitate the storyline again, with the intention to frustrate a series of reconciliation steps for their selfish interest,” he added. “We urge well-meaning Nigerians to be wary of the evil machinations of this cult of fifth columnists, whose sole business is to cause disaffection, manufacture distractions and sow discord within the APC and the progressive fold,” he urged. “For the umpteenth time, the general public is advised to note that Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola is focused on delivering key reforms in the Ministry of Interior and its agencies as championed by President Muhammadu Buhari, and also ensure that the APC emerges victorious at the 2023 General Elections.” CLICK TO READ MORE DETAILS: https://www.sojworldnews.com/internal-external-forces-frustrating-my-moves-to-reconcile-with-tinubu-aregbesola-laments-for-the-records/ https://www.sojworldnews.com/cbn-bans-cash-withdrawals-over-the-counter-in-banks/ https://www.sojworldnews.com/dpo-in-trouble-over-escape-of-prime-suspect-in-the-murder-of-cbn-staff-wife-and-son-in-ogun/ https://www.sojworldnews.com/just-in-tinubu-storms-ondo-lambasts-obi-atiku-rekindle-hopes-on-education-agriculture-natural-resources/ 2023 GENERAL ELECTIONS Dont blame any party or anyone for misgovernance again if you refused to collect your PVC and vote. Supporters of the Group of Five (G-5) Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governors have been directed to for other elective positions, National Assembly, State Assembly and the Governor in Oyo State but kept mum over the choice of Presidential Candidate. They were kept guessing yesterday at Governor Seyi Makinde’s re-election campaign kicked off In Ibadan, the Oyo State capital. G-5 leader and Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike, who urged PDP members to vote Makinde at the governorship and others candidates at the National and State Assembly polls, said the Oyo governor will announce who they should vote for at the presidential election. Wike and the G-5 governors – Makinde (Oyo); Samuel Ortom (Benue), Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia) and Ifeanyi Ugwuayi, have vowed not to support PDP presidential flagbearer, Atiku Abubakar, because of Dr. Iyorchia Ayu as the party’s National Chairman. The campaign, which held at the historic Mapo Hall, attracted huge crowds of PDP members and supporters from across the state. There were heightened expectations from those sympathetic to the G-5 governors’ cause that a candidate of choice for the presidential poll would be unveiled at the Ibadan rally. Appealing to the members and supporters to vote for all the candidates of the party for the National and State Assembly elections, Wike excluded the party’s presidential candidate. The Rivers helmsman assured that Makinde, whom he described as the G-5 Youth Leader, would announce their preferred presidential candidate to them later. Some pro-Atiku supporters, led by one-time Minister of State for Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Oloye Jumoke Akinjide, chanted ‘Atiku, Atiku’ to protest the exclusion of the presidential standard bearer in the list of candidates reeled out by the governors, who took turns to address the crowd. Wike, who also vigorously explained why Makinde should be allowed a second term in the state, advised all other parties’ candidates for the election to step down for Makinde. He said: “There is no other party in Oyo State. People of Oyo State, let me thank you for making your son valuable; a young man who is dependable; a young man who you can trust; a young man who can make you go home and sleep with your two eyes closed; a young man whose yes is yes, and whose no is no. And that is why he follows those who believe in fairness, in equity and in justice. “Seyi Makinde is a good product and has done well since he was given mandate in 2019 and therefore, the only way we can appreciate more is for him to go back and complete the good work he has started because that is the only way you will get the best out of him. “Let me use this opportunity and tell everyone, if there’s anyone from another party planning to vote now, withdraw now for Seyi Makinde. There is no need to worry yourselves; the people of Oyo have spoken that they are voting for Makinde. “Vote for Seyi; vote for the senators; vote for the House of Representatives; vote for the House of Assembly. The other one, Seyi will talk to you. The other one, Seyi will talk to you. The other one, Seyi will talk to you. When it is time, Seyi will talk to you. Ortom said: “We are here today to seek Oyo people’s mandate for Makinde to go back to government house. We believe in fairness, equity and justice. We are committed to PDP in our various states. We are united; we are working for all our candidates in our various states.” Ugwuanyi said Makinde has performed well and deserve to be re-elected. Ikpeazu lauded members of the party for reposing confidence in its candidates in Oyo, describing Makinde as the youth leader among the G-5 governors. He said: “Makinde represented their vision for better Nigeria where everybody is important. What people of the state would see in the first year of the second term of the governor would be better than what they have seen in the last four years of his administration in the state.” Thanking the Oyo electorate, Makinde noted that he had delivered on his promises to the state in the last four years of his administration. He said: “Under Omituntun 1.0 (Fresh Water), I promised you education sector, we collected LAUTECH back. Now, we have Emmanuel Alayande University of Education. “Under Omituntun 1.0, I promised Oyo State economic prosperity. I said we will take our people from poverty to prosperity under accelerated development. We took our IGR from N1.8 billion in a month to N3.8 billion as at November 2021 under our administration. “I assured the people that our infrastructure will integrate all the zones in our state – Ogbomoso to Iseyin; Akobo, Airport Road. I said our education levy will be scraped, has it been scraped or not? “I promised to pay salary of workers and pensioners every month. I promised the people a safe and secured environment. I invented Amotekun Corps. Didn’t I do well. “Under Omituntun 1.0, I promised a government that will put the people of Oyo state first and I have always made that decision. Now it is time to upgrade; it is time for Omituntun 2.0.” Some of the dignitaries at the event include: former Governors Ayodele Fayose (Ekiti); Olusegun Mimiko (Ondo); Oyo Deputy Governor Bayo Lawal; Makinde’s wife Tamunominini Makinde; PDP National Vice Chairman (South) Taofek Arapaja; Chief of Staff to Oyo Governor, Segun Ogunwuyi; Oyo PDP Chairman Dayo Ogungbenro; Oyo PDP Secetrary Wasiu Adeleke; Senator Hosea Agboola and members of the PDP State Working Committee as well as the PDP Women and Youth leaders in the Pacesetter State. Chief Afe Babalola, Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) has said the 1999 Constitution will not guarantee the emergence of credible leaders at the February general elections. “Unless a new Constitution similar to those of 1960 and 1963 Constitutions, with necessary amendments, is put in place, none of the aspirants, and indeed no angel can save Nigeria from total collapse,’’ he said. The proprietor of Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti, made the declaration on Wednesday at the Ekiti capital at a news conference. He was reacting to the adoption of Mr Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) by former President Olusegun Obasanjo. “On April 18, 2022, I urged the Federal Government to suspend the 2023 general elections and to raise an interim government of six months that will fashion out a new Constitution for the country. “I still stand by my suggestion that any election conducted under the 1999 Constitution cannot, and will not produce new leaders with new ideas. “Any election conducted under the 1999 Constitution will merely result in recycling the same people who brought Nigeria to grinding poverty, mass unemployment, underfunded education, insecurity and huge external debts,’’ Babalola said. The elder statesman noted that only a moneybag; and not the best-qualified candidates could win the February presidential election under the present constitutional arrangement. He explained that the LP presidential candidate’s adoption by former President Obasanjo was his right of expression, and might be a result of the contestant’s acclaimed untainted records of character and sound education. He stressed that the 1999 Constitution was too lopsided and faulty to produce the type of change agent and developmental leader Obasanjo had in mind. He added that the 1999 Constitution was not what Nigeria needed at a time like this. “I am an elder statesman, a SAN, the highest taxpayer in old Ondo State, the highest taxpayer in present Ekiti, owner of the best private university in Nigeria and many more. “If I contest for political office today, I will fail, not because I am not qualified, but because the system will make me not to win. “I have no sympathy for any Nigerian aspiring to rule Nigeria in any form, whether as a legislator, governor or president. “The fact remains that the 1999 Constitution on a large scale is the root cause of economic, social, political and religious problems in the country today. “Our experience since 1999 has taught us that we are in urgent need of a new Constitution. “The new Constitution should provide for stringent conditions in respect of age, academic qualifications, character and personality, as well as family background of candidates, especially for the presidency and the National Assembly,’’ Babalola said. He noted also that Nigeria’s external debt had risen to N42.84 trillion as of June 30, 2022, while domestic debt servicing rose to N5.24 trillion in the same period. He said that any Nigerian aspiring to lead the country ought to be worried about the country’s debt profile and advocated for urgent measures to defray the huge foreign debts. “In addition, government should emulate Obasanjo’s example by approaching the country’s creditors, either for total debt forgiveness or for substantial reduction of the debts,’’ the legal luminary stressed” CLICK TO READ MORE DETAILS: https://www.sojworldnews.com/no-angel-can-save-nigeria-from-total-collapse-unless-afe-babalola-blows-hot/ https://terryanews.com/2023/01/singer-davido-pays-chiomas-bride-price-in-full-at-ezeala-odu-imo-state-read-more.html https://www.sojworldnews.com/interesting-obasanjo-is-an-igbo-man-south-west-has-not-produced-any-president-yet-senator-adefuye/ https://terryanews.com/2023/01/cristiano-ronaldo-banned-from-making-al-nassr-debut-in-saudi-arabia.html 2023 GENERAL ELECTIONS Dont blame any party or anyone for misgovernance again if you refused to collect your PVC and vote. THE political calculations over who becomes the next Nigerian President is getting more interesting as each prominent tribes are laying claim to the Presidency. This time, Senator Anthony Adefuye, a Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), on Tuesday said it is the turn of the South-West to produce the President of Nigeria in 2023 as the only region that is yet to do so since the return of democratic governance to the country in 1999. Speaking in an interview with INDEPENDENT, Adefuye said those clamouring for the Presidency to go to the South-East are wrong as the region produced former President Olusegun Obasanjo who was in power from 1999 to 2007. READ ALSO: READ Full Text of controversial Letter Obasanjo wrote endorsing Obi for 2023 Presidential Election According to him, Obasanjo is an Igbo man because his father hailed from Anambra State while his mother is a Yoruba woman. He added that while in office Obasanjo concentrated most of his efforts towards developing the South-East, including appointing five Ministers as well as the Central Bank Governor from the region while he completely abandoned the South-West. He said: “I believe that in 2023, the APC will zone the Presidential ticket to the South. When it comes to the South, then it will be narrowed down to the South West because that is the only region that has not produced the President since 1999. It has always been the North and the Igbos. READ ALSO: OYETOLA promises to deliver over 1.5m votes for Tinubu/Shettima “Some people argue that what about Obasanjo? Obasanjo is not a Yoruba man. He is an Igbo man from the South-East. His father is from Anambra while his mother is a Yoruba woman. And that was why during his tenure, he completely ignored the South West. For example, throughout his eight years, he did nothing on the Lagos- Ibadan expressway. “But he did a lot for his people in the South-East. He picked five Ministers from there and even appointed the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria from Anambra where his father comes from. “So, it is right for the South-West to demand for the Presidency in 2023. What we should be doing now is working towards 2023 to ensure that the Presidency comes to the Southwest. The Southwest has never produced the President before,” he said. POPULAR Nollywood actress, Empress Njamah narrated the hell she passed through while courting with her ex-fiance, George Wade before and after her nude videos was released to social media. In a recent video, Njama said she is getting over her traumatic experiences. Recall the actress has been in the news since she alleged that her estranged fiance was trying to blackmail her with her nude photos in his possession. In a viral video, the actress thanked her fans for their support and assured them that she is fine and alive. She said, ‘ Love you guys, I’m good, Thank you, guys, for all the love, support, and messages and visits.’ In the video, she slammed her ex-lover, saying “I’m alive, I came out alive and I’m able to speak out, so many women are hiding under this torture, this torment, last-last, we move. I’m excited about my freedom.” The duo had separated in 2022 with Njamah accusing her ‘ex-fiance’ of physically assaulting her, in a Livestream via her business Instagram. Shortly after her revelation, Wade released a video wherein he threatened the film star. “You actually don’t know what’s coming. Trust me, I swear to God you don’t know what’s coming. Everything that I said to you, I think you consider it to be a joke. But trust me it’s not a joke. I know your day-to-day activities. I know everything you do on a daily basis,” he had said. In a now-viral video, Wade later said he was “seriously missing” the movie star. He, however, called on the actress to stop telling people that he cannot travel out of the country. “I am just confused, you know. When you said I couldn’t travel and people start telling me that, I was just laughing. Like seriously? I swear to God I just miss you. Seriously, I just miss you,” he said. “That’s the real truth, there is no joke about that. But please, stop telling people that I can’t travel. Don’t do that, I beg you please. It is very wrong”. Former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Olabode George, in this interview with SEYE OLUMIDE (Southwest Bureau Chief), said that the Presidential candidate of the PDP, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar cannot and should not be trusted with the restructuring of Nigeria if the controversies surrounding the call on the party’s National Chairman, Senator Iyorchia Ayu to step aside for a southerner is not resolved. He said Atiku does not have the unifier character to restructure Nigeria, among other issues. ‘Former Vice President and ex-Senate President Planning To Kill PDP’ Is the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) hiding any secret from Nigerians over the Ayu-must-leave crisis and the resistance? There is no secret Nigerians must not know and if there is, I think the presidential candidate of our party is in the better position to say it or be held responsible. There is nothing secret as far as I am concerned. The only thing acceptable in any civilised norm is to be able to tell the truth to power. People can manipulate, they can scheme, liars and postulators can be telling you things to satisfy you, to direct you and even cheat all the way to win an election but what keeps you on that throne is your character. What is going on in the PDP now is totally different from the principle of equity, justice and fairness upon which the founding fathers built the party. But why do you think Atiku is adamant about letting Ayu step down despite the persistent crisis? Atiku is the only one who can answer that question. I ponder because Atiku is my friend, we have no enmity; there is nothing that is secret. What he is doing baffles my imagination. If he is a thoroughbred politician, which he claims to be, then he should be able to say, ‘look, I want to be a unifier in this country, I want to restructure this country now.’ The crisis in the PDP, though small, has to do with restructuring. If, therefore, he cannot handle this little problem of restructuring in the PDP, how can we trust the whole of this massive country Nigeria in his hands for restructuring? The problem of restructuring is not new to us but the way to address it is what we lack. PDP’s founding fathers then sat down to find a lasting solution and they divided the country into six geopolitical zones. North West, North East and North Central and South West, South East and South South, and came up with also six top positions. They brought about the sense of inclusivity that out of these six zones, everybody will benefit unlike before. PDP is structured to give a national spread, a national political party that has the colours of Nigeria from the Southern flags to the Savana regions. There is no part of this nation that you won’t find PDP. That was an achievement on their part. But because this arrangement was not documented in black and white, it was verbal; people are now distorting the oral history to suit themselves. Did you say Atiku and Ayu are tampering with the root of the PDP? That is exactly what they are doing. Never in the history of this country would you have the presidential candidate and the National Chairman of the party to come from the same zone. Number one President, number two Vice president, number three Senate President, number four Speaker, number five Secretary to Government and number six, National Chairman. If number one goes up, number two goes down and so on. But what we have now is the Presidential candidate from the north, the Director General of the Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) is from the northwest, the National Chairman of the party is from the North Central, now come down to the three zones in the South. The Vice Presidential candidate is from South South, the Southeast has acting BoT Chairman and what role will that one play, and also ask them what have they given the Southwest. They are telling us to wait until after election and Ayu is telling us that he has a four-year mandate. Now the question we are asking is simple and we do not need rocket science to see there is a lacuna here. They are tampering with the very fundamental that established this party. You are not expected to leave out any zone. Can Nigeria really trust Atiku on restructuring with what is going on in the PDP? How can we trust him? The little lacuna we are seeing in the party is about inclusivity so that nobody will be left behind, but he is telling us we should vote for him first and then he will consider us. There is no fool anywhere. And Ayu is saying he has a four-year mandate. So, how can we trust Atiku to restructure Nigeria with what he and Ayu and their co-travellers are doing now? From the little party, you can’t be honest, then we will now entrust you with the massive problems of Nigeria? That’s not possible. Peradventure Atiku wins the Presidential election, what would happen, don’t you see crisis in the PDP? It doesn’t matter a bit to me. Once he becomes the President, the onus is on him to prove his character, the onus is not on me. I have said my own and at this age, I am closer to 80, I am not looking for anything again in life. Let history be kind to those who had been faithful, honest and able to tell the truth to power. This is, for me, is a continuation of the struggle for the unity of Nigeria. If Atiku refuses to heed your demand, is the G-5 governors and yourself going to work for another Presidential candidate? That is a very potent question and that will be a decision of the group. There will be a debate and discussion and that was why the last meeting we held in Lagos came up with a communique that we still stand by the decision that we are opposed to Ayu’s continuity as National Chairman. But we still have enough window of opportunity and discussion to reconcile. We still have almost 90 days to the election. The final decision is of Atiku. I am not saying he will not win but even at that, the onus is on him to ensure inclusivity. Everybody must have a sense of belonging. Can the G-5 governors and yourself be trusted also because of your failure to sustain the demand for power shift to the South like what we witnessed in the ruling APC. What you people are doing now is like applying medicine after death? Let me take you back. Why I am so involved in this matter is because we have not really discussed this part. How did we come about this? I stopped going regularly for our NEC meeting before they said that particular meeting was so important and we should come, I attended and I saw some younger people trying to throw tantrums. The meeting was so argumentative. It was advanced at the meeting that there is no need for zoning again in the PDP that we have outlived that. I then referred to the party’s Constitution; section 7 (2c) states that zoning and rotation remain sacrosanct for party offices and elective offices. In other words, the party position must zone and elective offices must zone. So, what they did, either intentionally or otherwise, was to only zone the party positions and left elective positions. I was surprised because it was the immediate past National Chairman, Uche Secondus that did it. I said if we have zoned one part, we must also zone the others. We now set up a Revisitation Committee to look at the report of the Zoning Committee and put a lot of elders in the new committee. The first day was riotous but some insisted that if they say there was no zoning, PDP will be destroyed because our brothers from the north were angling to take all the key elective and party positions. As a result, they felt we should jettison zoning. The meeting ended abruptly. We held another meeting and we refereed to the Constitution, which says zoning and rotation are sacrosanct. But as at then, six months had lapsed when they have started selling forms for the elective offices. And that affected decision-making in a way. I had been an advocate that another northerner cannot succeed President Muhammadu Buhari after eight years. But we agreed not to disrupt the party. So, we started begging most of the Southerners who were angry to calm down. We told them that our focus should be to get rid of the APC at the national level. We appealed to the people that due to the exigencies of the present situation, we should accept CLICK TO READ MORE: https://www.sojworldnews.com/atiku-cannot-be-trusted-with-restructuring-of-nigeria-frank-interview-with-bode-george/ https://www.sojworldnews.com/obasanjo-finally-endorses-peter-obi-for-2023-presidential-elections/ https://www.sojworldnews.com/mfm-general-overseer-olukoya-releases-30-powerful-prophesies-for-2023-read-details-plus-watchword/ https://www.sojworldnews.com/i-have-never-seen-anyone-who-supported-the-northerners-like-tinubu-ganduje/ Please Send your name and location to our Whabox.IGNOREtsApp No 09069473894 to receive our news updates directly into your WhatsApp , if you arePlease Send your name and location to o already with us.

THE Nigerian Army has denied the rescue or release of a Female Army Officer identified as Lieutenant PP Johnson held captive by members of IPOB/ESN since December 26, 2022 in Imo State community. The Army gave the Press Statement signed by the Director Army Public Relations, Brigadier--General ONYEMA NWACHUKWU released on its Official Twitter Page available to SOJ WORLDWIDE on Friday, the statement said the female officer is yet to be rescued contrary to the news making the rounds on Social Media. Press Statement "ABDUCTED FEMALE OFFICER NOT YET RESCUED, SEARCH EFFORT STILL ONGOING The attention of the Nigerian Army (NA) has been drawn to some publications circulating in the social media insinuating the rescue of Lieutenant PP Johnson, a female officer who was abducted on Monday 26 December 2022 while visiting her grandmother in Aku-Okigwe in Imo State, shortly after completion of her Cadet training and subsequent commissioning as a Lieutenant into the Nigerian Army. A video footage of her abduction had emerged in the social media where her abductors claimed her abduction was in line with their fight for Biafra against the Nigerian State. It is instructive that the officer’s circumstance as a woman and a Nigerian citizen of South Eastern extraction did not dissuade her abductors from dehumanizing her in their mindless attempt to commit atrocities under the guise of fighting for Biafra. This evidently is another pointer to the myriads of crimes being unleashed by IPOB/ ESN on Ndigbo, the very people they claim to be fighting for their emancipation. It should therefore be crystal clear to those who are still in doubt of the true status of these groups, that IPOB/ESN are terrorists, masquerading as freedom fighters and do not deserve the support of anyone particularly the good people of South East Nigeria. The NA wishes to state that the information making the rounds is unsubstantiated as the officer is yet to be released or rescued from her abductors. Likewise, the video footage being circulated and associated with the rescue claim is an old video of the arrest of a suspect earlier effected by troops. Much as we appreciate the concern and goodwill of the general public for her safe rescue, we also wish to note that the information on the rescue of the officer did not emanate from the NA. THE five aggrieved Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors led by Nyemson Wike have made demands too bitter to swallow before the Presidential Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu as a condition for their support in the February 25, 2023 Presidential election. The demand by the G-5 may have put the Tinubu's camp in a dilemma because it was a tough decision for Tinubu to decide alone. In attendance at the meeting were Governors Nyesom Wike (Rivers), Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia), Samuel Ortom (Benue) and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu states. The governors alongside Donald Duke, Jonah Jang, Olusegun Mimiko, former governors of Cross River, Ondo and Plateau states, respectively, as well as a Board of Trustees member, Chief Bode George, are defiant in their call for the removal of Iyorchia Ayu as the national chairman of the party. A reliable source disclosed that the five governors were concerned about their political careers and sought assurances from Tinubu. Though Wike is not contesting for any position in the 2023 elections, he was said to be concerned about his protégé, Siminalayi Fubara, who is the Rivers State PDP governorship candidate and the PDP senatorial candidates in the state. On the other hand, Makinde is running for a second term while Ortom will be contesting as the Benue North-West Senatorial District candidate in the polls. Also, Ikpeazu is the PDP candidate for Abia South Senatorial District and Ugwuanyi is running for the Enugu North Senatorial District. However, there are different accounts of the final decisions of both the governors and Tinubu on the demand. A source close to Tinubu told our correspondent that a final agreement could not be reached as a result of the ‘complex demands’ by the governors. According to him, the PDP governors made an overture to Tinubu to guarantee both the senatorial and governorship seats in their states, a demand the former Lagos State governor could not grant immediately as he needed to consult with his advisers and loyalists. The APC chieftain confided in our correspondent that Tinubu may not be willing to concede to the demand with less than two months to the 2023 elections. He said, “The G-5 governors do not hold the four aces. As it stands, they are actually seeking shelter. The major hitch we have is that all the members of the G-5 demanded for the governorship and senatorial seats in exchange for the big prize. “Now, the question is, how are they going to throw our people in Rivers, Plateau and Benue under the bus? I am worried about Benue, where we have low-hanging fruits. Of course, it is obvious we are set to win Benue with Reverend Father Hyacinth Alia, who we are sure will sweep the governorship poll. “There is also the APC governorship candidate (Teslim) Folarin who is prominent in Oyo. These are complex situations we are still grappling with and I can tell you that is where we are. The PDP governors are astute people who are very good in politics.’’ The source also noted that there were increasing pressures on the APC presidential candidate to call the bluff of the Integrity Group by not conceding any positions to them. Except for Rivers, the party chieftain said it had been projected that Benue and Oyo would fall because of the volume of mobilisation campaigns that had been carried out in the two states. “Whether Makinde likes it or not, Oyo will fall. Abia has never been our ground. We also lost in Enugu and Benue in 2019 where we failed to get 25 per cent. Yet, we still won the presidency. “I can tell you without Ortom, we have a very good chance of winning Benue in 2023 with Reverend Father Hyacinth Alia. But we know Rivers State is where we are very vulnerable and may need Wike to push up. These are the five states that we lost yet won the presidential election in 2019. “The truth, however, remains that Asiwaju knows that these five states are not the tipping points to win. It is just to make his victory double sure that we have to pitch tent with them. But as I told you, they are not in a position to stamp their feet, draw the line and impose conditions on Asiwaju. Their support is inevitable because these governors really have nowhere else to go,” he said confidently. On whether there is a chance Tinubu might meet the group again in January before they announce their preferred candidate, the politician disclosed that the negotiation had not ended. He said, “It is an ongoing conversation. The point is that Asiwaju must carry the people (candidates) within those states along with our internal structures. Asiwaju must consider these factors before opting for a pyrrhic victory. He will talk to other leaders of our party.” But a source in the PDP governors’ camp confirmed the demand they placed before Tinubu. He, however, said that a decision had been taken regarding the governors’ support for the APC standard bearer. The announcement will be made in January. The people will be informed on the decisions that have been made,” he said . On his part, the Media Director of the Tinubu-Shettima presidential campaign council, Bayo Onanuga, declined comments on the issue. Onanuga stated that aside from knowing that the governors were backing his principal, he had no idea about their alleged conditions. “I don’t want to speculate on this issue. I don’t know what was discussed. But I know that the G-5 governors are backing Bola Tinubu. I can’t go further than that “After all, the governors said they will announce their preferred candidate in January. Why not wait for them?” he stated. THE Independent Peoples of Biafra (IPOB), the militant agitators for a separate nation for the Ndigbos may have gone beyond what their tribesmen expected of them, killing same people who are supposed to be the instruments of development in the region. The fight for freedom, instead of helping matters have impoverished the ordinary men and women inside and outside Southeast regions making one wonder on whose behalf are these militants fighting? If you destroy the same people you planned to co-opt to make up Biafra, what is the gain? The elites who should have made Biafra the greatest economy in the West Africa subregions may either have been assassinated under the guise of fighting for the enforcement of one pronouncement or the other. Who will make up the country if you kill your best brains? Is it logical to kill your own people while fighting for freedom? I hope these youths who were born after the three years bloody civil war in Nigeria between 1967-1970 will see reasons and allow sanity to prevail after watching this video? WORDS ON MARBLE "I tasted all that is Sweet, But I found Nothing Sweeter than Good Health. And I tasted all that was Bitter, but Nothing was More Bitter than being in Need of Good people. And I carried both, iron, and Rocks, but Nothing was Heavier than debt. I discovered therefore that Life comprises only of two days: A day for you and a day against you. So when it is for you, do Not be Reckless; and when it is Against you, be patient. Because both days will Expire. If you can't be a bridge to connect People, then don't be a wall to Separate them. If you can't be a Light to Brighten People's Good deeds then don't be darkness covering their Efforts. If you can't be water to HELP People's crops sprout, then don't be a pest destroying their crops. If you can't be a vaccine to give LIFE, don't be a virus to terminate it. Women and children continue to be abused and killed every day in South Africa. Every morning we wake up to the heartbreaking story of a woman who is sexually abused or killed. According to the statistics, over 12 women got killed every day in South Africa from January 2022. What makes it more unbearable is that the people who kill and abuse them are the people they live with—people whom they trusted and sought protection from. Speaking of that, there is a lady who was sexually abused and killed yesterday on her birthday; according to the reports, a 25-year-old woman named Makhosazana Khumalo left her home on Friday with her neighborhood boys, who she used to hang out with. READ ALSO: WIKE, others risk expulsion from PDP as they go for negotiations with Tinubu in UK Unfortunately, they sexually abused her and killed her; her lifeless body was found hidden under the bed. Rumors say they first gave her alcohol and then sexually abused her when she was intoxicated. Yesterday, her sister posted that she was missing; later, her body was found. This story is one of the most heartbreaking. A birthday is supposed to be a day you enjoy and are grateful for the gift of life that god gave you, but to the khumalo, it turned out to be a nightmare. Their Christmas turned out to be one of the worst days of their lives. Reports say the boys have been arrested. After this story was posted on social media, people are calling for the police to release these boys so that the community can deal with them personally. Some even said it means this boy has been sexually admiring her all along while they pretend to be friends. This is very heartbreaking. To all my sisters out there, please, if you want to go out, take one of your family members with you. Don’t trust anyone. May her soul rest in peace with the hope that justice will be served. iReport SA News CLICK TO READ MORE: https://www.sojworldnews.com/inside-life-lady-gangraped-to-death-on-her-birthday-by-male-friends/ https://www.sojworldnews.com/inside-life-man-narrates-how-he-murdered-his-girlfriend-who-he-met-on-facebook-two-years-ago-read-full-details-video/ https://www.sojworldnews.com/inside-life-after-49-years-man-discovers-he-is-not-the-father-of-only-son-in-family-demands-bride-price-paid-for-his-mother/ Please Send your name and location to our WhatsApp No 09069473894 to receive our news updates directly into your WhatsApp box |
RIVERS State Governor, Nyemson Wike and four other aggrieved governors under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have met with the All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu in London, the United Kingdom. The APC standard bearer was said to have lobbied for the endorsement of the five governors during the marathon meeting which was held on Tuesday. Governors Nyesom Wike (Rivers), Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia), Samuel Ortom (Benue) and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu states and some political heavyweights from the South had vowed not to support the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, over the refusal of the party’s National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, to resign after Atiku obtained the presidential ticket of the party. But hours after the governors meeting with Tinubu, the PDP said it was not aware of their parley with the ruling party’s presidential candidate, noting that as far it was concerned, the governors were in the UK on vacation. The main opposition party, however, threatened to punish the governors for any anti-party activities, stressing that it had the capacity to discipline the recalcitrant governors. Shedding light on the London meeting, a source stated, “Tinubu met with the aggrieved governors yesterday (Tuesday) along with a delegation that included (Kayode) Fayemi, (Babajide) Sanwo-Olu, one other governor and an ex-governor. For now, we are only waiting for the G-5 governors to make the official pronouncement in January.” On what the demands of the aggrieved governors were, the source declined speaking, saying he wouldn’t want to speculate. “I don’t have details about that. What I know is that they have met and declared their indication at the meeting that they are not supporting any other candidate,” he stated. The PUNCH could not independently verify the presence of the Lagos State governor and Fayemi at the meeting. A source in the Lagos State Government House, stated, “I have received several inquiries on this report of the governor’s supposed travel with Asiwaju (Tinubu) and I can tell you that he is still in Nigeria. In fact, I spoke with him twice today (Wednesday). Even if he were to travel to meet the G-5 Governors outside the country, it is not something he would want to disclose, but he is very much in the country,” But commenting on the governors’ reported alliance with Tinubu, a member of the PDP National Working Committee, Timothy Osadalor, said the party has what it takes to impose the necessary sanctions on the governors should they make real their threat of dumping the party’s presidential candidate. Osadolor, who is the Deputy National Youth Leader of the party, further dared the governors to endorse their preferred candidate so the party could take appropriate steps against them. He said, “These governors know the party they belong to; they know what the party can do. Should they take this step they have been working on for a while now and the party will do what is necessary. “We want to believe that they are in the United Kingdom for vacation and so reacting to speculations is not what we should be doing now. We want to assure Nigerians that if they take that decision and support a candidate other than ours, the PDP will act. Let me put it straight: this party has the capacity to discipline them and any member who tries to undermine its will.’’ When contacted, the PDP Spokesman, Debo Ologunagba said the party would apply relevant provisions of its constitution when the need arose. According to him, all members, including the governors are aware of this. He stated, “The PDP is a party of constitution, rules and procedures. We don’t react to speculations. In taking decisions, we look at the our party constitution in relation to issues. Whatever happens, it is the constitution that will guide the action we will take. “These governors are conversant with the PDP constitution having sworn to uphold it. If they take that action (endorse a rival presidential candidate), we will take a decision in line with the provisions of the constitution. “They have contributed to the success of the party and they have also benefited immensely from the party. They should know that the provisions of the constitution are applicable to every member of the party. “Reconciliation is not 100m dash but a marathon. We hope they will realize this and embrace the party for good,” Debo Ologunagba, National Publicity Secretary of the PDP.@ Another party chieftain, who confided in The PUNCH said the governors could face sanctions in line with section 58 (1) of the party constitution, which states “Subject to the provisions of this Constitution, the party shall have power to disciple any member who says or does anything likely to bring the party into disrepute, hatred or contempt, or engages in anti-party activities.” A PDP chieftain and member of the party’s Board of Trustees, Chief Eddy Olafeso, expressed the conviction that a workable solution can still be found to reconcile the governors with the PDP presidential candidate. When asked if the party would sanction the governors over their alleged romance with the APC standard bearer, he said, “I cannot act on rumours; there is nothing before the party to consider. We are still thinking that we will be able to have a common ground for this election, but if those things happen, then it will take a position of issue of discipline. That is when we will be talking about that.” On his part, the Director of Strategic Communications, National Election Management Committee of the PDP Presidential Campaign Council, Chief Dele Momodu, said there was nothing new in the governors’ threat to endorse a presidential candidate of their choice. He, however, urged the Wike-led group to make good its promise to enable the Election Management Committee to react appropriately. A 78-year-old man has left heartbroken after discovering that his 49-year-old son is not biologically his and is now demanding for the bride price he paid for his wife. Wilson Shirichena from Mhondoro in Zimbabwe who was led to believe that Milton Shirichena was his biological son for the past four decades, is still in shock following the startling discovery. Wilson alleged that his supposed “son” Milton got a visit from his real father, who told him he was his son before he died. He is now demanding for the bride price from Milton since his in-laws are all dead. WILSON SAID; “When I was told this, I was utterly heartbroken to find out that my dear wife would hide this from me for 43 years. I now demand that I be paid back my lobola money from Milton since I paid damages which should have been paid by his biological father, who impregnated my wife before we got married. “My wife is not feeling well. She has a mental illness, and all my in-laws died. So Milton should pay me back my money in his father’s stead.” Milton however denied allegations that he spoke to his supposed “biological father” when he was still alive. HE SAID; “I can’t deny that there are rumours circulating that I am not Wilson’s son, but we have never spoken about it. If he has proof of what he is saying, then he should follow the proper procedures that have to be done than chasing me from the family like a dog. “ CLICK FOR MORE: https://www.sojworldnews.com/inside-life-after-49-years-man-discovers-he-is-not-the-father-of-only-son-in-family-demands-bride-price-paid-for-his-mother/ https://www.sojworldnews.com/inside-life-bandits-gang-rape-pregnant-woman-to-death-in-niger-state/ https://www.sojworldnews.com/2023-appointment-of-new-obi-datti-campaign-dg-akin-osuntokun-is-fraudulent-deceitful-arabambi/ Dear Distinguished Friends in Nigeria and Diaspora, Kindly add SOJ WORLDWIDE to the WhatsApp groups you belong for all our news updates using this number, 08023851511 We are here to update you with news updates on Politics, Sports, Gossips Human Interests, Opinions, National and Global news end so on. A 31-year-old man identified as Edeh Tochukwu has been arrested by men of the Police Intelligence Response Team (IRT) for allegedly killing his 48-year-old lover, Ijeoma Felix in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on October 24, 2022. While being paraded before newsmen on Tuesday, December 27 2022, Edeh stated that he and Ijeoma met on Facebook two years ago, and that their relationship blossomed to the point where he moved into her two-bedroom residence in the Lugbe area of the FCT. He claimed that their relationship began to deteriorate when she started to question his every move. ”Whenever anyone calls me on the phone, she was always angry. I couldn’t express myself. I can’t stay on the phone for more than five minutes. She will pick offence. She will insult me” Recounting what transpired on October 24, Edeh said he had an argument with the deceased over a Highlander car she gave to him, which he had sold without her consent. He claims the argument turned violent . ”When I came around, the argument started all over again about the car. It was at this point that she raised her voice. She started insulting and everything. She went to the sitting room, dropped her home theater on me which I still defended. She was back with the pestle the second time, it was really unintentional because I was angry and all that…I snatched it away from her and shoved her with it. When she was coming up, involuntarily I hit her with the pestle..That was when she fell down and started crying and saying why did I hit her” he said. Edeh stated that after hitting her, he took the Toyota Camry belonging to the deceased, along with her phone and some other belongings before leaving the house. He added that he was arrested on November 2 after changing the car documents of the Camry and selling it for N1.7 million. Also speaking to newsmen, the victim’s elder sister recounted how she learned about the death of her sister, Ijeoma Felix after her gruesome killing on October 24,2022 at her residence. On our way back, my wife said since it was Christmas Day, we should take everyone out, so, we went to a supermarket at Abraham Adesanya, then to Domino’s Pizza. “After that, we headed towards Ajah to do a U-turn to come back to Abraham Adesanya. When we took the U-turn, we saw policemen stopping some vehicles. As we approached them, they said we should stop, and in the process, we heard a loud sound on my wife’s side window. All of a sudden, I saw blood gushing out of her chest. “I immediately ran out; my sister-in-law, who was also with us, ran out and held the policeman; he cocked his gun at her too. Talking to him was pointless, so I went to see if anything could be done; I saw my wife gasping for breath, and by that time, my sister-in-law had brought the policeman into the car and pushed him into the front seat. “We drove to a hospital but they said they couldn’t handle it; we eventually took her to Grandville Hospital, where she was confirmed dead.
