Politics / Re: What Is The Lazy Dude Doing, Call A State Of Emergency Now! by soldee: 12:18am On Jan 31, 2011
A state of emergency means taking power out of an incompetent leaders' hands and putting it directly in the hands of one who would take swift orders and execute them to the letter. Unfortunately, GEJ who should be declaring the state of emergency is just as incompetentent as that idiot Jang. Even if he declared a state of emergency, the buffoon wouldn't know what orders to give!

GEJ himself needs a state of emergency declared on his presidency at this rate!

Let us get something straight here, that portfolio is not a new creation, it was there before, infact, Abiola's daughter was the one heading it until this announcement. I am Igbo myself and am passionate about my Identity but I dont think there is any justification for that position in the 1st place. The issue here is not Bianca's appointment( because any political strategist will tell u it has its point if u look at the potentials of such to his acceptance to the igbos) the problem here is why do we ve such an office in the first place. It is causing so much uproar now because it is Bianca, Ojukwu's wife. People should take a chill pill and argue with perspective, all these issues about GEJ wanting to habe Bianca is preposterous and the forte of mentally lazy ppl that would rather indulge in small talks than intelligently analysing issues.

If we could trust GEJ to reason even partially on your level, I'm sure this thread would not exist!

Back to topic, I think Buhari should pick Ngige. It is on record that he once gave pdp a headache and besides, Ngige as VP would guarantee an igbo president in 2015.

Fair enough I'd say.

@PrinceK12

Pls take some time to see the bigger picture.

Northern politicians of today do not necessarily represent the interests of the voting North. EVERYBODY knows that!!

So it is rather FOOLISH to play into their hands. Why make religion an issue? Its like putting a gun into your attackers hands and taking off your clothes!!!

kulutempa:

The problem with most people in Nigeria is that our so called leaders continue to pee on them and tell them it's raining, and the poor sods believe them.  Call me cynical but I don't see anything changing for the foreseeable future particularly in the North where religion is the principal means by which  politicians control the poor teeming masses.  Our brothers in the North would rather riot and kill Christians in their midst at the instigation of an insanely corrupt politician, instead of asking what their leaders have done to improve their lives.  Sad. Very sad.

It is particularly worrying that everything is now christian-muslim - if it is the easiest way politicians up north can sway the poor teeming masses.

What exactly was GEJ's game plan when he was killing zoning and 'blaming muslims'?

Its crunch time now and he's seeking 100 million muslim votes.

We watch, we learn  cool

Princek12:

That was not my question: my question was whether you prefer oligarchy over democracy, not whether Nigeria is a tribal zone. And even, for argument sake, Nigeria is a tribal zone, do we have to maintain the status quo, especially when that status quo has not worked for us: we do not have even steady power. This election has also shown that Nigerians do not necessarily "line up behind their tribes men," for Jonathan won convincingly in the North, even in Atiku's turf.

JJC Wake UP!! Jonathan won 80-something delegate votes from the PDP Governor of Adamawa State.

Princek12:

Do you know that your idea will send Nigeria back and progress will rarely be made? Have you thought that if the best person in the country is not elected, that the best candidate from one zone may be the worst candidate in another zone? To put it plainly, for example, the best candidate in the North could be a high school graduate with zero leadership experience, while the best candidate in the South could be an advanced degree holder with significant leadership experience. According to you, just for zoning sake, the best candidate from the North should be put forward if, at that time, the best candidate that can be presented by the North would be that secondary/high school  graduate with zero leadership experience. Such a mentality is not good for any civilized society.

Again wake up to the reality - both the north and south and east and west have numerous credible people with excellent education and leadership qualities - our concern now should be making sure that these are the people who are presented as candidates. That can be achieved more effectively wit zoning.

If zoning was in place and it was the turn of the South-South do you think a Goodluck Jonathan would stand a chance running against the likes of a Donald Duke? Just saying
Politics / Re: Riot In The North Over Jonathan's Win by soldee: 2:42pm On Jan 19, 2011
There are numerous persons from each Zone who are fit to hold each leadership position in contention - Yes, Nigeria is that blessed.

With turn-by-turn, each Zone can showcase their BEST based on real issues.

But alas -
Politics / Re: Riot In The North Over Jonathan's Win by soldee: 2:40pm On Jan 19, 2011
Princek12:

So you are you saying you prefer oligarchy over democracy; and that the best person for the job, regardless of tribe, should not always be the president, because of zoning?

Nigeria is a Tribal Society!!

The only way a candidate can be assessed and voted for on the basis of issues is if all candidates are from the same Zone.

Once candidates are from different Zones, Nigerians will line up behind their tribes men!!

Rural people dont view debates on fb or nairaland - forget it, and their numbers count!!
Politics / Re: Riot In The North Over Jonathan's Win by soldee: 2:21pm On Jan 19, 2011
This is why 'zoning' was created. The right to rule should not be a game of numbers, of 'Might is Right'. but that's all water under the bridge now - what's next?? cool

As much as I respect his literary ability et al, I am particularly disappointed that he has kept quiet about the state of governance since GEJ took over.

Is he saying all is well? With the passion with which his Save Nigeria Group insisted on GEJ you would think he would have said something by now. Others that have never said anything before are talking - he that is a bona fide 'talker-outer' is quiet about the state of affairs.

Did he even make any comment about the SNG bribe saga - abi is he not associated with the group

Any why has he been silent on MEND? Especially since he is a registered member of MEND? Not even a word to dissociate himself from the bombings

I'm not impressed at all!!

Anyhow, a tribute to a great life. Wish him the best in Retirement and hope the next generation will have more lion-hearts like him.

Politics / Gej Endorses Threat To Delegates Lives by soldee: 10:57am On Jan 02, 2011
Daily Trust: Friday 31 Dec. 2010
http://dailytrust.dailytrust.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=9228:anenih-warns-delegatesvote-for-atiku-we-fish-you-out&catid=2:lead-stories&Itemid=8

Any delegate from his native South-South geo-political zone who votes against President Goodluck Jonathan at the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) presidential primary elections in January will be traced by hand written data on the ballot papers, former chairman of the PDP Board of Trustees Chief Tony Anenih warned in Port Harcourt yesterday.

Anenih issued the dire warning in the presence of President Jonathan at the South-South PDP Delegates and Stakeholders’ Conference which took place at the Banquette Hall of the Government House in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.

He said, “Anybody from the South-South who does not vote for this ticket (Jonathan/Sambo), God will not give him good luck. That day, we have the boxes, Bayelsa, Edo, so when you put your ballot paper inside the box, we will know what you have done. Akwa Ibom box will be counted,Jonathan, Jonathan, Jonathan! We don’t expect to be here, not even by mistake, somebody is saying Atiku. We will identify the handwriting of that person. If it is a finger print, we will trace it. I hope you know I was a Commissioner  of Police! We will trace that person who made that terrible mistake!”

He however said that for the fact that Jonathan’s main election rival, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, had married a woman from the South, they will allow him to get one vote at the primaries.

“Because we belong to one party and Atiku is my in-law, make we givam one vote. If he wants us to come and take our daughter, we will go and take our daughter. There are more beautiful men in South-South to go marry them!”

Yesterday’s statement was Anenih’s second controversial one this month alone. He had said in Benin, Edo State, at a similar Jonathan/Sambo campaign rally that there will be no vacancy in Aso Rock by 2011. He had said the same thing in the build up to the 2003 elections, which were subsequently marred by irregularities.

Director General of the Jonathan/Sambo campaign organisation Dr Dalhatu Sarki Tafida told the delegates that Jonathan’s bid to remain in Aso rock was facing threats from an aspirant from the North-East (clearly referring to Atiku). He even said Atiku may clinch the ticket, although he assured the President of victory.

“Mr. President you are lucky. You are lucky because these people you see here love you. However, there are challenges, challenges in the sense that other zones are competing with you. The north-west is competing with you. The North-East where we think we have an aspirant there is competing with you. Believe you me, the North- East (Atiku) may even beat you in the polling zone, therefore you should be careful! Be careful! (turning towards Jonathan). They are working very hard! They are working very hard. The aspirant from that zone may not get much, that one I can assure you. So keep your work. Make sure what you (delegates) promise is what you do!” Tafida said.

President Jonathan however said at the meeting that he has been assured by governors of securing votes of delegates at the primaries and he trusts in them.

He said, “I am convinced by what my governors have told me about the position of the delegates of the South-South.  I am convinced with what the traditional leaders have told me. So I will not campaign again.  The Vice President and others have noted some of our strides. I would not want to talk about them because I hear it in the press that I am being challenged by someone for a debate, so I am reserving it for the day the PDP will call us for the debate.  Even today I read it in Leadership [newspaper]. I know presidential debates all over the world are in two levels. A president represents a political party and tells the country how he will implement the programmes of that political party. That presupposes that a candidate must emerge first before you can go for a presidential debate. In the event a political party feels it will assess candidates vying for President under that political party, then that political party can arrange an internal discussion with the aspirant. In this case somebody challenges as if it is wrestling game.”

Vice President Namadi Sambo as well as the Governors of Rivers, Bayelsa, Cross River and Akwa Ibom were present at the meeting while representatives of delegates from two other South South states--- Edo and Delta---pledged their votes for the President.

When you are President you stop representing a 'minority' and start thinking nationally. This 'zonal' na-my-turn mentality is eroding GEJs goodwill on a massive scale!! He just can't seem to grasp the idea of Nigeria as a single entity and its infecting the populace! Under no other leadership has Nigerians' general mood across the country been so tribally charged!!! He seems to have nothing to contribute beyond ' see am, see am, na dem do am'. Very saddening when you consider that eveyone bent over backwards to try to like him! When you're not good enough, you're just not good enough.
