You are very correct. The road starts from Ikoyi Bridge on Ozumna Mbadiwe to Epe and it was a 49km road given out by Yemi Oshinbajo to Tinubu in 2006. And to show that money is the factor for that road, The road was supposed to be completed before tolling will commence on that road. But in December 2011, Fashola sent RRS, thugs and hoodlums to beat Lekki protesters who were against the erection of the Toll gate without completing the job. Tinubu even had the audacity to erect another Toll gate after Chevron before the madness ebbed. In 2014, Fashola paid LCC 24b to take over the road supposedly from them and the clause of the 25 years of BOT ended but the duo are still collecting toll and doing nothing on the road. The poor lighting system is palpable and the original masterplan of building flyovers on the road was abandoned. In all, 30kms has been built for over 14 years and they have been collecting 8m daily from the tolling which has created the impression that not all fingers are equal. Bicourtney was not allowed to erect a toll gate on Lagos Ibadan road until he completes the road and when he could not fulfill the clause, the road was taken away from him.

Mind u, I presently have 20w50 there (synthetic), the dealer used that to service it as the car recently arrived. Guys on nairaland have scared the hell out of me telling to go drain or and use the 5w30 recommended which I planned doing in few weeks time until I came across this thread.
I also crave for good fuel economy.
Moreso, what does APL, XHP, GSX etc mean and which one will be most suitable for my car?

Oil sellers will resume soon with 5w30 and condemn 20w50 not knowing fully well that the manufacturer only recommends oil.

If you are not lazy, pls type your car's model and Google it out.

They will insert panic attack in you if you follow them too closely.

Check the manual of your car online and you would be amazed at what you would observe.

The thread did not die because I am through with the locally produced engine oils which from my analysis is not recommended for any vehicle. It has made a lot of the producers to listen to the yearnings of the motorists. You wanted answers to your questions and I will try and give you the answers from experience. Toyota seriously forbids the owner of the car from using gasoline and diesel engine oil. They also specified the API number to use till they moved to 5w20 and 0w20. If you check the manual of recent Toyota cars, 0w20 is listed as the only specification for all weather. But the problem is to identify the right oil for your car. Not all 5w30 are suitable or even 0w20 for your car. G Life gave a caveat that their oils are suitable for compact engines and you find a lot of people using it on their V8 engines. A lot of people are using Asian oils that dries up faster and complain that their oils are drying. A lot of engine clatters arises as a result of poor quality engine oil being used.I have stopped using Mobil 1 US because a lot of people are complaining of the drying up. From the current repair situation, oil mixture with water and engine clatter is the warning sign to use what the manufacturer recommended because we are yet to produce a generator talkless of ignoring the recommendations of the manufacturer of the car.

many in this trend are saying our ambient +43 degree temps don't matter and have no effect on oil, that car with radiator regulates engine temperature and also help to bring the engine oil up to operating Temp 100 degree through the help of the themostat , asking if our weather is hotter than engine temperature 100degr

there's is also a clear statement by oil manufacturer saying in 5w30 , 5w is the low temperature weight while 30w is the oil weight in 100 degree , which is also the engine coolant temp range,

on different occasions during summer , you find out that oil temperature gauge move above 100 degree , (which you claim the oil get to 30w at operating Temp) to +44 ,+46 and above .

my question is....

1)what viscosity will 30w oil be in 106 degree engine oil temperature during summer ? ( = it will be lower than 30w VISCOSITY which will not lubricate the engine properly and course more wear and tear).

2) why does engine manufacturer display ambient temperature oil chart which shows that 30w arrows to +38 degree and BELOW , when they know that it is suitable for ALL temperature?

with the above ideology I wish to prove to you that 40w mostly or 50w oils may be the best choice for +44 or higher temperature and severe load condition, and will not harm our engine, (and 30w for state's with +38 and below temperature ) the only disadvantage is less fuel economy , but with synthetic, flow will be better.

You have asked a fundamental question. Not all 5w30 are suitable for all cars. Range Rover stated in one of its manual that 5w30 is recommended for the 06-09 cars but they stated that there are engine oils that can cool down the temperature of the engine ànd it will never exceed 50 degrees. The engine oil is a coolant dispersing heat and dirt away from the engine while the cooling system also does its own work by ensuring that the temperature is brought lower in order for the engine to remain in a cool state. If you have noticed, there are cars that are found mixing oil and water. There are also cars that have engine clatter when you start the car in the morning. A simple fix is to repent from using your recommended oil and listen to the manufacturer. Engine clatter can be resolved when you use the recommended oil and without bothering with the camshaft like most people are wont to do. If you choose to use the oil that is making our used cars to look like junks, don't worry, we the mechanics will gladly welcome your car.

5w30 API Sl engine oil for Toyota ended for the model of 2007/8 and from there. they recommended 5w20 or 0w20. Honda has been using 5w20 longer before Toyota did. Our number one problem here is the use of substandard engine oils on our vehicles. Mineral oil does not cause sludge if regularly serviced but there are a lot of negative effects associated with the engine oil being used by ignoring the advice of the manufacturer. The outside temperature does not determine the type of oil a car should use but the oil is factored to the design of the engine. Until recently, all 20w50 oils were API Sl until Mobil introduced xhp API SN. Cepsa was being adulterated because it was an API SN and an 20w50. All cars being used in Nigeria will surely be destroyed by the manner of usage but the time of its destruction lies in the owner's negligence or ability to maintain it.

I drive a Honda Civic, 2003 model. I just changed the gear and would be mounted tomorrow. I was using Honda ATF Z1 I got from the public store before at around N1800 until I realised it's fake. Someone advised I get Oando Dextron iii but the manual says Dextron iii should be a temporary replacement. Is there any less expensive genuine ATF Z1 or any other recommended ATF I can buy?

Total ATF dexron 6 mvlv or use Addinnol Atf dexron 6. The dealer for Addinnol Atf is here on Nairaland. That is your best bet. It was good that you checked before you bought the fake oil. It has been phased out since 2011.

The recommended oil is atfz1 or Dw1. Oando ATF dexron 3 is advised to be used as a temporary fix like if you are in an emergency and you can't find the real oil, manage the D111 till you get to where you will get the correct oil and drain it out. That means that you can only use it for an emergency but if it is the usual transmission fluid change, use Total mvlv dexron 6 which is suitable for Dw1.

You are very correct but the one I use is not the local type. Jensen's engine flush is a 1 litre Engine flush that requires 5 minutes to clean up and it's a once and for all process and you are required to use the right oil after. But some cars are better left to their devises as I once had a situation where the sludge in a car was it's protection. Immediately we flushed the engine, the oil pump was blocked and the engine knocked. For those types of engines, the best way forward is to strip it open and clean out the sludge. The way forward is preventive maintenance. I know for sure that even if you use the conventional oil, service every 3 months or 3000 miles. There was a guy that was always coming over with his Sienna every 2 weeks for oil change. In 2 weeks, he has covered 3500 miles as a transporter whenever he comes, the engine is like brand new. Other motorists were surprised that he was using Q5000 and the engine is like brand new. The major reason for transporters high vehicles failures is because they don't follow the service menu. If you have a car being used for transport, the gear oil should be changed at every 10k miles or there will be transmission failure. All the Siennas used as transport had the failed gear as what made them discard the vehicles . Preventive maintenance is the best remedy for cheaper vehicle maintenance.

all that needed is to drive the car till its on operating temperature which is 90 degrees or middle point on the temp gauge, then pour engine flush let it idle to 15mins then drain and put new oil

That was why I stated that the alternatives in the market are the saving grace for us. Imagine looking for dia queen for Mitsubishi or Spv1 for Kia. But all these multi vehicle transmission fluids have saved a lot of motorists from destroying the gearboxes. We now have a 9 speed gear oil in the market now

No one is abusing cars here. None of these oils are produced locally. The Dw1 or Atfz1 was adulterated worldwide and not only in Nigeria. There are multi vehicle transmission fluids made for specific vehicles and they have been proven to be good. The way Honda place guards the integrity of their oils is very high and as such we advise everyone to use the alternatives. Addinnol also has good reviews

There are alternatives Bros and Total mvlv is one of them. Pureguard, Syngard and even Liqui Moly are better alternatives.

Sienna 1999 requires Dexron 11 or 111. I will advise you to get Mobil 220 for the gear oil and the engine oil is 5w30. A 3.0 engine need better oil and so try and get good synthetic oil for your car. Castrol 5w30 in white gallon will do the magic

Total now sells good ATF in their outlets and they have this particular one Mvlv dexron 6 which is very suitable for Dw1. Dw1 is not dexron 3 but 6 but it is backward compatible with ATF Z1 also. Look for it in big Total outlets

He is right. The pressure solenoid is faulty and my advice is to change the gear box as it will be difficult to get a good valve body. Type tiv is still the ideal oil for the transmission

Vw cars has over four different gear oils for their cars and this is one of the common oils. Let me check more for the right one so that I will not help you to destroy your gear box.

An Italian firm came to Nigeria about 2 years ago with respect to this conversion cant recall the name.They effortlessly converted a GL450 and vehicle still runs fine till today.

Visco 2000, Mobil xhp. Nipco now has gas equipped stations. But I don't know the particular stations where they do conversion but try their website and you will get better information or take the car to Benin and it will be done instantly. Benin was their pilot project and a lot of taxis who took advantage of it.
