@Baba40, I don't know the position of things now about the engine, if the car is still with you, the engine may not be bad, the oil may be the culprit, we are learning everyday. Your car is corolla 04 and I believe the engine is for 04 also. Most times 5w30 works better for latest car bcus it is a sythentic oil and is very light. You can try and change the oil to a lower grade like forte visco 2000 or Mobil xhp. Wish you all the best.

I was told to use to an Engine cleaner before the next service. Addinol engine cleaner but they would need to open the sump under to get the oil out.

Is this true??

I'm also using Mobil 1 on my Toyota but d oil is good and nothing like dried up wen you have good engine.

I use the Honda 5W 30 for my car(Honda and am at 2700 miles the oil is already very black, Does the colour of the oil affect the performance of the oil?

The engine oil is recommended to be used to 5000 miles?

What are your thoughts on the matter? Can i used addinol 5W 30, the delaer told me its for 9000km max

The Addinol CVT oil you recommeded has been wonderful, my gear response has been sweet since i started using the oil.

I read a car manual that some engines over driving periods and manner can shorten oil a little due to heat. It states that one can simply top it as it is view as been normal.

Thank you sooperescue for this thread. I was afraid of buying a Land Rover brand. Now I want to buy a 2008 Freelander and need some advice on maintenance and other possible issues that may arise from the use. Starting with the cost at N3.5m, is this expensive or ok at that price? How much is the maintenance and at how many miles should someone service the vehicle? What are other things I should watch out for?

Freelander 2 for 3.5m? Too high for the price currently. The parts are almost similar to the Evoque but it is a good car and service is twice a year using the recommended oil. If you add a million to the price, you can get an evoque somewhere else.

I know Nigerians have amnesia, which is what our leaders rely on and correct me if I am wrong but was this road not awarded during Fashola's tenure. It was a tenuous topic during his 2nd term debate where Dr Dosunmu raised the issue that they awarded the road at 1billion naira per kilometre.

Anyone with relevant info, kindly update.

Mind u, I presently have 20w50 there (synthetic), the dealer used that to service it as the car recently arrived. Guys on nairaland have scared the hell out of me telling to go drain or and use the 5w30 recommended which I planned doing in few weeks time until I came across this thread.
I also crave for good fuel economy.
Moreso, what does APL, XHP, GSX etc mean and which one will be most suitable for my car?

Oil sellers will resume soon with 5w30 and condemn 20w50 not knowing fully well that the manufacturer only recommends oil.

If you are not lazy, pls type your car's model and Google it out.

They will insert panic attack in you if you follow them too closely.

Check the manual of your car online and you would be amazed at what you would observe.

many in this trend are saying our ambient +43 degree temps don't matter and have no effect on oil, that car with radiator regulates engine temperature and also help to bring the engine oil up to operating Temp 100 degree through the help of the themostat , asking if our weather is hotter than engine temperature 100degr

there's is also a clear statement by oil manufacturer saying in 5w30 , 5w is the low temperature weight while 30w is the oil weight in 100 degree , which is also the engine coolant temp range,

on different occasions during summer , you find out that oil temperature gauge move above 100 degree , (which you claim the oil get to 30w at operating Temp) to +44 ,+46 and above .

my question is....

1)what viscosity will 30w oil be in 106 degree engine oil temperature during summer ? ( = it will be lower than 30w VISCOSITY which will not lubricate the engine properly and course more wear and tear).

2) why does engine manufacturer display ambient temperature oil chart which shows that 30w arrows to +38 degree and BELOW , when they know that it is suitable for ALL temperature?

with the above ideology I wish to prove to you that 40w mostly or 50w oils may be the best choice for +44 or higher temperature and severe load condition, and will not harm our engine, (and 30w for state's with +38 and below temperature ) the only disadvantage is less fuel economy , but with synthetic, flow will be better.
