P0021 is telling you that the timing has over advanced and the system too lean is as a result of some hoses which are either worn or not properly fastened are leaking air especially the pipe that goes to the throttle mouth. In most cases, the MAF Air flow meter is also a suspect. Are the two clips holding the air flow meter fastened? Most people always tend to ignore that aspect. Try to check all your hoses. And also the oxygen sensors are aging and all you need to do is to change the o2 sensor bank 2. Also change the air filter if it is dirty.
Car TalkRe: Are The Sins Of MDX Many? by sooperrescue(m): 11:20am On Aug 06, 2016
Kashif:
2011 MDX and Pilot use different engine and transmission. I dont understand why premium and regular fuel will be a requirement on same engine. Never knew Rx300 and 330 owners are complaining. The RX 350 is 9 years already so, i dont see it as a new entrant.
The acura mdx 2011 that i changed the gear was replaced with a honda pilot gearbox. That you can ask. The cars dont use the same fuel ratings ditto the lexus. Lexus uses premium unleaded fuel while the highlander and sienna uses regular unleaded. If your lexus has been performing well, good luck to you but google what you will get when you use a low octane fuel on a lexus, then you wont talk about fuel economy. Prado and Gx 470 uses the same engine and body but they dont use the same fuel. The difference in the price of lx570 and landcruiser is 6m but they are using the same body and powertrain but not the same fuel ratings. Rx 350 has been in the market for over 9 yrs but no one has bought it as brand new, the in thing is now 350 and as the pocket dictates, 330 and 300 rx The fuel is the determining factor in Lexus, Acura, Infinity, Mercedes benz, range rover, Bmw, Vw, Audi, but the one that still overcome the wahala of our fuel regular ratings is the Range Rover, that is why they are more on the road. Nissan jeeps are now having issues with their gearboxes because it is recommended that to get maximum performance, use premium fuel. Dangote refinery is coming to our rescue soon but until then, octane booster is the way to go.

Dear NL,
I am interested in buying an SUV and the one I am seriously considering is 2008/09 MDX. However, my mechanic including dealer has been trying to discourage me from going for it. That I should rather go for RX350 or at worst Highlander because it's better and if I look around I will see more of it than MDX (I am based in Lagos).
Now I need your advice on the genuity of these people's assertion. Are the sins of MDX that many making people to avoid it?
There are many cars that will not tolerate regular unleaded fuel, Acura is one of them. The first issue is the gear box and it's the major issue with the mdx. The difference between the Acura and the Honda pilot is the fuel. Same engine but different fuel requirements. The Acura requires premium fuel only. The Lexus350 is a new entrant to our auto market but what we hear from the owners of rx 300 and 330 is not encouraging, black smoke, poor fuel economy and other little issues that the owners can't tell. I once changed the gear box of an Acura mdx 2011 that was bought in cotonou. They added abro atf to top it on their way to Lagos. My advice, be mindful of the oils specified for the car, get good octane booster and enjoy the gadgets and comforts from the mdx.

U kno diesel engines are very tolorant to bad fuel .
That is true, i am getting parts now from Bearmach and will be able to make the autobiography cruise around town.
Car TalkRe: Range Rover Sports Club by sooperrescue(op): 8:55am On Aug 04, 2016
There are many autobioghy around and they are not problematic . It is our fuel that is creating these problems. The diesel version suffers from the same poor diesel quality that has destroyed all those new mack trucks that used to ply our roads. But when you use better additives for both versions, no need to fear, it is a strong and powerful brand and it is the only Brand on the road right now. All the others are crawling on the road looking for where to be Parked.

Diesel is cheaper in the long run, gives you more miles/gallon, and more power
Yes, that is true but at what cost is it cheaper? When you see the colour of the diesel, you will be afraid to pour it inside your 2012 Autobiography that you are planning to bring in. This Range is similar to yours in LHD and the cost of repairs is not funny to the owner
Car TalkRe: Range Rover Sports Club by sooperrescue(op): 1:04am On Aug 02, 2016
Every one is getting diesel powered range rover sport these days but i advise that good diesel cleaners should be used to ensure Cleaner injectors. This 2012 sdv6 us suffering from our diesel sold here in the country..

dem neva baff to do such!
thanks boss...
gonna do as you said....
but u havent advised me on the ml v6 you would describ as less problematic(if am allowed to use dat word) not exceeding 2005 model.
Since the issues you had are not engine and gear issues, then stick to the v8. Have you experienced where the ml will seize and will be dragging while you are moving? It is common on v6 when the abs is faulty. Power steering is also selective, And the rack is the same price. If you want the ml to be in top shape, take it to lawrence or bring it to lagos and get a renewal
Car TalkRe: MUST READ!!! cause Of The Incessant Tyre Burst Accidents On Nigerian Roads by sooperrescue(m): 3:42am On Jul 28, 2016
kbams241:
*Vulcanizers in Nigeria are killing people*
IMPORTANT INFORMATION TO ALL VEHICLE USERS!
Good Evening sirs. Many people have been wondering what could be the [font=Lucida Sans Unicode]cause of the incessant tyre burst accidents on Nigerian roads. The major cause is that we put too much pressure in our tyres. How did I know?
I was preparing for a journey, I changed some of my tyres and I asked the vulcanizer that 'what is the recommended tyre pressure?' He said 50. I said alright, he should inflate it to 50 all round.
When I got to where I was going, I was discussing with some people on the issue of the minister that died on the road due to a burst tyre and wonder what could have happened because nobody could imagine a minister would be travelling with expired tyres as many would think is the major cause of tyre bursts.
A man (lived in US for many years) said that the major cause of tyre burst in Nigeria is that we put too much pressure in our tyres and that each car has recommended tyre size and pressure clearly written on it by the manufacturer.
*I was surprised and begged him to come and show me where it's written on my car. To my greatest surprise, it's by the drivers door which I enter everyday without noticing it.*
By the time we checked, the recommended pressure for my tyres is 32! and I just traveled with tyres on a pressure of 50! He took me round his compound and showed me that of the cars (which includes a jeep and a sienna) there, the highest was 32. Some were even 29!
He further explained that tyres are made of rubber and expand at high temperature. So, when you are travelling in the afternoon when the asphalt on the road is hot, the tyre will want to expand. If the pressure in the tyre is too much and wouldn't accommodate the expansion, a burst is likely to happen at that time.
Pls check the recommended tyre pressure for your vehicle and others you know.
As many as possible Nigerians need to read this.
thanks
When a tyre is over the recommended psi, and you move around with the car, 90% of what you will get is a swollen tyre on the sidewall which completely ruins the tyre. The burst tyre syndrome is fitting winter tyre on your car in Nigeria and also using a H or even T speed rating on a Lexus 570. That will cause a tyre burning and burst scenario while driving especially those tyres with temperature B.

Car TalkRe: As Regards Benz Ml- by sooperrescue(m): 8:10am On Jul 25, 2016
After fitting the sensors, they should use computer to perform adaptation. It might even be the mud that is making the ecu not to detect the abs. Like I stated, you used the wrong power steering fluid and with that mistake, the cost of getting a new rack is the price. Check out Lawrence opp limit gate in sapele road. Thank God that your engine and transmission are good.

sorry boss for the late response
we had power steering issues.. abs sensor problem.. electronic stability failure and many other sensor issues...
a mechanic said the v6 is less expensive to maintain and comes with less sensors and electronics dan the ml500
When the abs is faulty, the esp will follow and the abs sensor is not more than 30k for the 4 tyres, new sensors. The ml is very particular about power steering fluid and you must have used abro or seahorse fluids to warrant those issues. If you patronise mecs like the one you had, they will not be able to fix the v6 version, they will later advise you that A class is the best because it is 4 cylinder. To enjoy any mercedes, obey the rules. The high end engineering involved in putting the car together does not allow substandard products and mecs to touch it. If you really grooved that ml500, you will never contemplate stooping low to a v6,

Hello house....
we have had a not so good experience with the ml500... but dat doesnt change my love for mercedez..
none the less we are considering getting a less powerful ml - the v6 engine..
i need to find out from benz users which year of ml320 or ml350 (not exceeding model produced in 2005) is less problematic...
i would greatly appreciate your inputs
What were the issues that you had with the 500 ml and why do you think it won't be the same with the v6?
Car TalkRe: Range Rover Sports Club by sooperrescue(op): 3:32am On Jul 19, 2016
Can you get the range scanned? Also how clean is your air filter? Continue using the booster, it will adjust. Does the range go off when the warning sign appears? Another advise is to take the range for a long drive and let the nozzles open up. Most times, we hardly use the range for what it is.

Wolfhead universal synthetic atf will work on your volvo but buy from the dealer not sellers. Look for oils that are solely for power steerings

Cvt fluid, not the conventional atf. Yes it is

Car TalkRe: Why The Obsession With 20W50 Engine Oil? by sooperrescue(m): 3:58am On Jul 13, 2016
Denc:
Supported.
5W-40 is usually full synthetic. If its Total Quartz 9000 5W-40 u used (cost #8,500 for 5 litres but now #11,000 this year), its API category SN/SM which applies for 2011 and older engines (backwards compatible). However, be careful with rapid swapping of oil grades...I have seen an engine damaged (crankshaft, main bearing, piston) within weeks of switching to the said 5W-40 (so high cost of oil does not exactly grant safety from engine damage). Don't panic; if you already using the 5W-40 and have not noticed any issues or changes in performance...just be consistent with it...don't keep changing the specs.
General rule: stick with manufacturers specs (especially for newer cars with low mileage i.e. less than say 100,000 miles)
Where the specs are not available, get something close enough. (You may not need to order from abroad) Just take time to research the various brands available locally. Go to major filling stations with well stocked lube shop.
Total q9000 is sm,cf and not snand so it is a no go oil for any vehicle that recommends sn. A would be client with a range rover uses q9000 because he works with Total. The range was full of sludge but he refused to change the oil for a modern oil so I let him go. There's this issue currently raging in the country, is there any oil produced locally that work well with high compression engines? I am trying to get together Total, Forte, Mobil and Oando lubricant managers to come on air and lets discuss the quality of their oils and why are Nigerians turning their back to their oils and looking south for good oils to the extent of preferring Turkish oils to our locally produced oils. Total and Pandora are hiding behind rules that I should write to their management before they can come on air. I was going through the website for Castrol oil and looking for their Nigerian dealer and there was none except for South Africa and yet Eterna oil claimed to be the sole licensee to Castrol oil in Nigeria. Can they be trusted? I started using Mobil 1 USA to service range rovers because the castrol magnatec 5w30a1 recommended by castrol is not available in the country. The ones sold by Eterna oil is the same specification with Forte, Honeywell and Oando and yet they cannot hold down the temperature of high compression engines. Oil coolant failure is now on the increase, where oil and water mixes because the oil coolant failed. My outfit ,Autowatch on radio is now on air this July every Tuesdays and Thursdays and we will be on 103.5 fm where we intend to invite the stakeholders to chart the way forward. The Corp Marshall for Frsc, the DG, Cpc, are also waiting to come on air and redefine the Nigerian spec in every thing that concerns automobiles. Last advice, if your car requires 5w30, don't buy any oil because it has the badge, get quality oils. My clients are now buying engines from the USA because even the locally sold engines are not guaranteed and the major reason for overheating in engines is oil, low quality oils with higher badges.
