EducationRe: Guide To Foreign Admission Statement Of Purpose by SOPWriter(op):
What shouldn’t you include in your statement of purpose?

1. Unnecessary personal details
What do I mean by personal? Don’t share that you’ve been interested in history since you were born and now you want to study Mass Communication. Moreover, you should probably exclude sharing an overwhelming hardship that led you to want to pursue graduate studies in, for example, Chemical Biology. These details would be more appropriate for a personal statement, and are neither professional enough nor necessary for a statement of purpose.

There is, however, one exception: If you have changed careers to pursue your field of interest, you should discuss this. For example, let’s say your first undergraduate degree is in Education, and you discovered your interest in science while working as a teacher. Hence, you went back to school for a second undergraduate degree in Physics. This is a personal detail you’ll want to include because the admissions committee will wonder why you have two undergraduate degrees. You can do so subtly by explaining what you learned from your previous degree and how you’ve applied it to your current work.

Note: some schools will offer an additional section to explain personal circumstances. If you’re given the opportunity to discuss personal details elsewhere, use it, making sure to focus your statement of purpose on why you want to go to graduate school.

Is it possible to go for visa interview after paying 1 year tuition for a 2 year program?

I am looking at MUN
There won't be oral interview if you will be applying for Canadian study permit (except for special cases of which I have not heard of). Secondly, paying for a year tuition is another way of proofing your genuine intention of pursuing a degree in Canada. Pay the tuition, it will be an advantage!
EducationRe: Guide To Foreign Admission Statement Of Purpose by SOPWriter(op):
What should you use from your CV in your statement of purpose?

Simply put, you want to choose experiences and accomplishments that display you are a determined, self-motivated individual with a passion for their field of interest.

Experiences to consider including:

Research assistantships

Jobs

Volunteering

Internships

Note: The earliest experiences should be from when you were an undergraduate and onward to the present day. You can include pivotal experiences from before college on your CV, but unless they have been incredibly influential (high school internship at a university laboratory), save the space for more recent experiences.)

Accomplishments to consider including:

Publications

Presentations

Funding (fellowship, grants, travel grants, scholarships)

Exhibitions

Fundraising

Invited speaker or panelist

Ideally, your listed experiences should be multi-year and within your field of interest. Still, you can boost the importance of shorter experiences like a summer internship by discussing achievements you made during that short period of time, such as particularly strong results, a resulting presentation, or pitching a novel idea that was used by the institution/company.

For each experience you include in your statement of purpose, you’ll have to discuss the following:

A short description of what you did

How long you did it

Why you did it (not always necessary but can be used as a transition in between experiences)

What you learned from it

Any accomplishments that came out of it, such as results, publications, exhibitions, grants, presentations, fundraising, etc.

The accomplishments you present within each experience will not only validate your experience and make it seem more impressive, but can also be used to display your fit for further studies.

I want to appreciate everyone on this group, for the spirit of togetherness, selflnesses and your invaluable words of guidance and encouragement.
I got everything I needed for my application from this forum.
And for the people that are always optimistic all the time, congratulating me in advance even when I write a post to express my discomfort and frustration in the application waiting time, your words are always very timely.Thank you once again.

Finally I got another letter on my portal yesterday, the correspondence letter to be shown upon landing in Canada with address of Lagos embassy, does it mean that I can go and pick up my passport now? because it was approved on Friday and I was thinking a text message will be sent.

To all the travel hopefuls we shall rejoice very soon my God's.
Congratulations!

Before Writing
Firstly, I strongly recommend you to update your CV before you begin writing to ensure that the dates and details you discuss in your statement of purpose are sorted out.

Also understand that a little bit of preparation before you write will make the drafting process a lot easier. Recall that the statement of purpose should put a narrative to the accomplishments on your CV that supports your decision to pursue graduate studies.

To best prepare, first jot down dates and details of each activity (research apprenticeship, job) along with associated accomplishments (publication, presentation), and figure out which qualities of the ideal graduate student are exhibited through your various experiences.

Here are some qualities to consider demonstrating:
Dedicated
Perseverant
Collaborative
Good mentor
Independent
Self-motivated
Audacious
Creative
Strong interpersonal skills
Clearly communicates complex material

However, you should understand not all experiences or details will make it into your statement of purpose (more on which experiences to include in a moment), but having it all in one place can really help you get your brain juices flowing.

EducationRe: Guide To Foreign Admission Statement Of Purpose by SOPWriter(op):
What is the admissions committee looking for in a potential graduate student?

Before we get into our step-by-step approach to writing a standout graduate school statement of purpose, let’s discuss what admissions committees are looking for so that you’ll have an easier time writing a compelling essay.

Graduate schools want to admit students who have exhibited a history of determination, self-motivation and passion for their intended field of study. Sound like you? Good!

The key word here is exhibited. In other words, you’ll want to draw from your experiences and accomplishments to highlight the aforementioned attributes through your essay.

Here’s a quick guild on how to demonstrate the qualities graduate programs are looking for:

History of determination: Experiences in your field that have lasted a year or more.

Self-motivation: Internships, funding, and presentations that you independently and successfully pursued

Passion: could be a discussion of how you decided on your field of interest (in your intro) and the specific area you’d like to study during your graduate career (in the conclusion)

In addition, below is a summary of what you’ll be critiqued for:

How clearly you present your experiences and accomplishments to display your fitness for their program.

Whether your statement of purpose makes a coherent and concise argument that you are the kind of graduate student they are looking for.

Your writing skills (formal and respectful in tone, proper grammar and punctuation, and easy-to-follow argument presented through your experiences on how you arrived at the decision to pursue graduate studies in your field of interest).

Great guru’s,
My Note is out, I sincerely need input on how to tackle the reasons for refusal by the VO. I am gainfully employed and have another business which is managed by my spouse. tuition fee is 30kCAD and i have 3times the balance, no bulk payment. I think the major issue here is my SOP(my view) and will need help.

‘’taking applicants plan of studies into account, the applicant does not appear to be sufficiently well established that the proposed studies would be reasonable expense. The applicant’s plan of studies appear vague and poorly documented. According to applicant’s current and future employment prospect, I have accorded less weight to their employment ties to the r country’.

With this profile of yours, I am 99.9% sure the issue is from your SOP or Choice of degree in relation to your present employment but don't worry, SOP isn't that hard, you just have to locate where you missed it the first time. I can assist you further if you need assistance with your SOP.
EducationRe: Guide To Foreign Admission Statement Of Purpose by SOPWriter(op):
How is a personal statement different from a statement of purpose?
Although most graduate programs require a statement of purpose, a few will ask for a personal statement instead, yet some schools will request both.

A statement of purpose places a narrative to your achievements to demonstrate that you have prepared for success in your graduate studies. On the other hand, a personal statement draws from your personal and professional experiences to explain how you have come to the decision to pursue a graduate education in your field of interest. In addition, your personal statement can be used to give admissions committees a sense of who you are as a person, including any obstacles you’ve had to overcome, explanations of your less-than-ideal academic record, and contributions you’ve made to your community.

If you are asked for a statement of purpose and personal statement, you should reserve information about your personal journey and hardships for your personal statement and discuss career-related experiences and academic accomplishments in your statement of purpose.

Note: If you’ve written a statement of purpose, you can easily modify it into a personal statement for programs and fellowships that ask for one and not the other.

EducationRe: Guide To Foreign Admission Statement Of Purpose by SOPWriter(op):
To expand, your statement of purpose should argue the following:

Why you want to go to graduate school

How you’ve prepared for graduate studies

What field and specific area you intend to study and why (Ph.D. in History with a focus on the Nigeria Revolution).

Why you’ve chosen University of X for your studies (specific offerings, resources, faculty).

We will be considering the difference between the statement of purpose and personal statement next.

EducationGuide To Foreign Admission Statement Of Purpose by SOPWriter(op):
A statement of purpose is an essay that summarizes your past work and preparation for further studies. It lays out your most important experiences (jobs, internships, apprenticeships, teaching) and accomplishments (publications, presentations, grants, exhibitions, speaking engagements) with the goal of getting you into your first-choice further program.

Whereas strong grades and test scores are the foundation of your application and are necessary to be considered at top programs, your experiences are what set you apart. Therefore, the goal with your statement of purpose is to organize and present your academic journey in a way that convinces the top institutions’ admissions committees that you are perfect for their program.

The theme of a SOP is geared towards the first time visa applicants. In this case, the applicant will more likely talk about how the advance studies is going to complement past academics and how it will brighten up the future career scope. In addition, various other topics will be addressed such as capability to finance your studies and living cost, why particular program, why Canada, why particular institution, etc.

The theme of a LOE is geared more towards the re-applicants (whose visa application was earlier rejected). In this case, the applicant will start first-half of the letter by explaining what went wrong in previous applications and on what ground it was rejected. It should also include the way you have been able to address the previous problem in your preceding application.

Good morning house. Please I need an advise on the following
1. What is the age limit to access canadian study visa approval.
2. What is the most appropiate educational gap that the embassy considers ok
3. Is over 20years academic gap acceptable? However the gap is filled woth work experience.
4. What is the best advise for a 43year old with such an academic gap but with interest in canada study experience?
Thanks
1) There's no particular age limit stated by CIC, so far you have a genuine reason to further your education.
2) None is specified by CIC, you just need to clarify how your study gap was utilized (curriculum vitae will be cool).
3) Depends on your educational level, notwithstanding, your work experience will answer some questions.
4) Despite the gap length in your academic pursuit, Its not impossible, you just need to express this educational passion in your statement of purpose, and state the reasons you choose to further your education at this age.

Thanks mcobex.

The father would not be applying with them. What I forgot to state in my last message, was that they are all presently in Europe. The father is presently a diplomat attached to one of Nigeria embassy in Europe. I think he is only trying to establish the family pending when he is called back home.

The major issue, is how can the mother prepare a SOA/LOE to buttress her intention if she is only going to complete a 1 year diploma in Personal Support worker.

Or should she just go with the minor as a guardian a and get a longer visa duration, but not able to do anything while she is in Canada.
Follow mvobex's advise, especially now that the tuition had been paid, clarifying their interests and intentions. However, they should make their SOP straightforward and logical as possible.

Good Luck.

She can go for the 1 year diploma, all she needs to say is that she is accompanying her children to Canada but also want to use that opportunity to upgrade herself by studying a 1 year diploma. Since she is applying from outside Nigeria and her husband is a diplomat (which is a very strong tie) I don't see her having issues. It should be a straightforward app.

Medical could be done upfront but it is not essential, you can always be called for medicals when the time comes.

Police Clearance Certificate is not mandatory, however, it could be important to clarify and ascertain your credibility in terms of law abiding and criminality, notwithstanding, its absence in your application doesn't mean you will be rejected.

A few of my success stories and testimonies:

I first applied for a study visa to Canada in April 2018 and was refused June same year with Purpose of Visit.
Second Application was in Feb 2019 and was refused the same month with Purpose of visit and travel history.

In both cases, I used the services of an agent and I applied with the M.eng (One year course based) admission letter
Shortly before my second application, I contacted Frankrobbn to assist proofread my SOP. Despite his kind assistance then with every effort put in place, I was still delayed. Then after my second refusal, I contacted Bracha who encouraged me not to give up and assisted with part of my SOP correction.

Sometimes in Jan this year, I had thought of switching from the Meng to Msc but getting supervisor was the issue. After a series of emails with usual "no funding, no space" responses, God finally came through for me and that marks the turning point in my Canada journey. I got a Prof willing to supervise me and provided the Stipend that fully covers my study around April and then I decided to reapply for the 3rd time in May 2019.

This time around,Qudkom came to my rescue. We talk extensively, exchange emails and I had to even travel to a neighboring city to meet this wonderful and kind guy that I didn't know from anywhere just to ensure I get it right this time. Anyway, no more agent as I am prepared to take all the advice of the gurus to do it by myself.

Few days to my submission date, I had to literally go through all of Franks past post to ensure all my T's have been crossed and I's dotted.

My special appreciation thus goes to Frankrobbn, Bracha and Qudkom who positively influenced my application in a way or the other
Every other guru: Makano, Justmellow and so many Monikers I may not mention. God bless your selfless efforts on this thread.

I need to also mention that I am advanced in age and I have never traveled outside Nigeria before and I also graduated university in 2006 with about 11 years working experience. Married with 2 kids but I decided to apply alone first.
This is to encourage someone not to really give up.

Nevertheless all human efforts, IT IS NOT OF HIM THAT WILLS, NOR OF HIM WHO RUNS, BUT OF GOD WHO SHOWS MERCY....

More Success stories to every applicant awaiting feedback from Schools or the Embassy!!!
Congratulations!
